LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Plant Simulator. by BroRawr 2017-08-01T20:20:17Z

I agree that a long-term goal would improve the experience dramatically. Love the art and animation. It felt like once the pipe on the right started the alarm, there was never enough time to actually fix it. It was also hard to hear the "yawn" at times, making me lose unexpectedly. The coffee mechanic is smart, as is the placement - always keeps the player running around!

BUG SQUASHER 9000 by alwaysinbeta 2017-08-01T22:43:52Z

The biggest suggestion I have is to maybe make weapons deplete less -- it's awfully punishing if you miss. I usually ended up without any weapon power and just had to die to try again, but I didn't feel like I was that terrible at aiming. Great job with the aesthetic, loved the atmosphere.

A Thirst For Power by bobsleigh 2017-08-02T00:33:16Z

Great job! I'd love to see what you guys would come up with for more bosses, these were unique and appropriately challenging! There's a lot to play with with the "stand here to gain energy/ammo" mechanic. Small things I noticed: music reseets going in/out of 'how to play,' energy doesn't drain in the in between segments (maybe just restrict shooting?) and it's unclear when the final boss is actually going to shoot, it seemed random. Awesome submission!

No Sorcerer's Sky by TheFlyingKeyboard 2017-08-01T15:39:26Z

The idea is nice and the mood is relaxing, but the game is too obtuse and the UI is not very user-friendly. The entire game is mouse-driven except I can’t go back to the central gameplay screen without hitting Escape; the only button goes back to the main menu. A tutorial would have helped a lot, or at least a very easy beginning to allow the player to explore the mechanics and figure out what is happening. Also the game is spelled wrong on the title screen.

The power of blood by Arknostik 2017-08-01T15:21:48Z

Two issues: 1) The game sends its sound through my Oculus headset by default, which also open the Oculus app when I boot up the game. 2) Clicking play shows me this view: http://i.imgur.com/01pjsm7.jpg and essentially makes the game unplayable.

Abandon Ship by Futil 2017-08-01T20:15:05Z

Wow, this is simply amazing. Some wonky graphics stuff when killing someone on an elevator, but otherwise an awesome entry. This is the kind of game that deserves to be more fleshed out and sold to the public! Great work, love the aesthetic.

LD46 — Keep it alive

The Honest AI by atmospherium 2020-04-23T19:23:20Z

WOW the voices and overall feel of this game are intense. Loved the ending as well. Super creative take on the theme and very well executed!!

Baby, please don't break my hearts by Stadoblech 2020-04-22T02:26:42Z

Good project! The biggest thing I can suggest is to iterate and add more things. New types of missiles/enemies, new levels, etc etc. The aesthetic and "game feel" are amazing!

Ducky's Day Out by Kosmo 2020-04-24T22:55:28Z

@nightvision65 You can skip the level-preview it does after restarting by clicking (while it says "Click to Play" on the top).

Todd and Bobb's Excellent Adventure by bigbadollie 2020-04-21T03:12:16Z

Neat concept, but frustrating in practice. Attack doesn't work very well and I spent most of my time on the ground.

Rock Bottom by Offz 2020-04-21T03:01:42Z

Simple but effective! Love the clean artstyle, too. Great job with this.

Checkmate by CharlieMrl 2020-04-22T02:10:40Z

Checkpoint was clutch. Loved this experience! Only downside is that while originally I had a horde of enemies *plus* the Queen to deal with, once I died it was just a 1v1 (1v2?) fight that was less epic. I also wish the King only took one bullet to kill since he's so weak, even in Chess. Great job overall with this and you did great with the theme!!

Job-Changing Janitor Fights Off Zombies And Tries To Save Patients At A Hospital by Grentacular 2020-04-21T03:24:44Z

I think it's not clear that you can swap between jobs at the top -- but once I found that out I had a good time! Although staying near the top of the map seems to not spawn zombies or something? Basically I felt like I could stay the doctor the entire time and had no real threats coming my way. Really enjoyed it though, and it would make an awesome local multiplayer game if fleshed out!

Life of the Party by OrdiNeu 2020-04-21T04:28:32Z

LOVE the dance floor idea. All of it is a great idea, actually! I do feel like there is too much to keep track of and do. Not sure if the best solution would be multiple levels slowly introdicing new things to keep track of, or meters for the things, or what. But what you've got here is super impressive and challenging!

Bodyguard by kodran 2020-04-22T02:24:19Z

Definitely one of my favorite games of the weekend, and it's in the compo! I can't get enough of games like SpyParty, and this scratched that same itch. I enjoy that it just keeps going to, but I wish I could start on any level I wanted so after I get to level 11 or so I don't have to go through the first 10 every time. Would love to see this iterated on!

Press Flail to fail by Rafael Vital 2020-04-21T04:43:43Z

Fun and exciting mechanic! Harvesting jumps is probably unintended but enjoyable nonetheless -- once you get momentum going you *really* get going! If I had to suggest something, it would be to show off the cool mechanics earlier -- like the thin strips of water that make platforming possible. That was the best stuff and it's late in the game!

Zoo keeper by Team-on 2020-04-22T02:32:25Z

AMAZNIG art, big kudos to @ggrusha. Not all the mini-games are hits: the bird mini-game takes way too long compared to the rest, and the egg rubbing one is very confusing. It only registers left-right movements as "rubbing" but my inclination was to rub up and down because of the shape of the egg. The pands mini-game is also brutal -- there's not enough time to hit the quota, especially later. Ultimately it doesn't matter, since passing or failing these games don't seem to have any impact on unlocking the new zones. I think it would be better if each new series of mini-games added something unique to the mix (different snake pattern, new rhythm game for the bird, etc) but that would be an idea if you continue to work on this, which you should!

To The Bunker! by BBApps 2020-04-21T02:34:47Z

Link's a 404 for me. Reply when it's fixed to I can play/review!

by Sthor726 2020-04-21T02:52:32Z

Great job with this! Music and art are great, humor is decent. I'd recommend rotating the feet to denote which direction to push -- I know there are arrows in there but they're small and dark and impossible to see after the first level. I accidentally pushed down a lot because every foot is pointing down. The steps are also often off-rhythm, so if I get in a groove because of the music, I lose it within a few measures because the notes are off.

Mammoth Expedition by Abdurrahman Khallouf 2020-04-22T02:21:36Z

Great experience! While there were a handful of typos, I didn't feel like any were egregious enough to detract from the overall experience. Great job with the atmosphere and the characters -- both their art and personalities. I feel like I understood each of them and who they were. Some of the font color choices (especially green) were hard to read, but overall this was a good time!

Fairy Savior by pvp 2020-04-21T03:29:13Z

Good idea, would benefit from some more mechanics and/or levels. The attack also seems almost useless and it's not clear if it's even hitting the enemies. Maybe you could give them health bars to show they're taking damage? Good job getting something up there while solo!

Backcourt Brawlers by Luther-1 2020-04-21T04:53:08Z

This is awesome! It really gets the feel of a big hit down and is exciting to play! I hope you continue to work on this; it reminded me of Lethal League a bit with the spikes and super hits. Great stuff!!

Hungy Hungy Dwagons by cheesepencil 2020-04-23T19:21:39Z

LOVED the sound effects! The game reminded me of Tapper. Would love to see that points system implemented alongside some new level designs. Congrats on the submission!!

Someone called for an ambulance? by Bauke Regnerus 2020-04-22T02:29:13Z

What a cute project! The map was way bigger than I thought at first -- great job with it! I would force the first few spawns in a new area though, since as soon as I unlocked the city, the spawns had me staying in the first little area. for the most part and I wanted to explore the city! I think it should also require the sub-mission like getting ice, medicine, etc. Or have a scoring system that encourages it. Overall, amazing job for your first 3D game and in such a short time period!

Switch.tv by Mahou 2020-04-21T05:06:13Z

The download is now there, but streaming as a guy doesn't work -- streaming as a female does, though. The game also starts my SteamVR when it boots up. I'll withold my rating until things get sorted out (reply here when that is !).

Oh Crap! by BackwardsCap 2020-04-21T02:14:03Z

Not bad, but I wish there were more games or at least variations. Grabbing with the arm for surgery isn't very intuitive, as the "grab box" is very specific. The baby one feels impossible sometimes depending on the level (I assume it's randomized?). The skateboarding one is only weird because I have to switch to the arrow keys.

Blobbysitter by Jake Marks 2020-04-21T03:53:15Z

Just beat it! Definitely tricky, but doesn't overstay its welcome at 2 minutes. A little finicky without a crosshair to accurately pick things up, but that almost enhance the experience? Love the blobby model, too. Great job folks! I appreciate the weirdness.

Goldsmith by Nocity 2020-04-22T02:19:05Z

Excellent job! My only criticism is that it's not clear to the player where to click to move/do things, but once I knew everything it was smooth sailing and I had a ton of fun. The multiple endings aspect was an awesome way to get me back in to play more! You should be super proud of yourself!

Flood by Joxev 2020-04-22T02:15:43Z

Game felt good with the exception of the dash, as it just has weird interactions at times. Jump+Dash is a super jump that trivializes a lot of the jumps, and dashing up while falling is just super weird. Love these types of platformers though, and once that control issue is fixed, I think this would be great to play through! Great job this weekend!!

Resquack by SorgardTeam 2020-04-21T02:28:08Z

Fun take on the Frogger formula. As @Helen mentioned, sometimes the game doesn't want to advance despite the quota being hit (I think you have to be in/near the pond?). Also, the baby ducks are frustratingly slippery even when not on a snowy level (after playing one though). The game also sometimes won't end even if there are not enough ducklings left to complete it. I would have liked to see a few more variations/street designs.

Captain Bean and lil Jalapeño by Tsamf 2020-04-21T03:40:17Z

Wow that's a huge bait-n-switch from the title card to the actual gameplay. As others have said, jumping is weird and it takes a while to know what to do. I do enjoy the idea of a sidekick keeping the main hero alive as he (presumably) gets all the credit, though!

SeaTurtle Safety Squad by PrimalShadow 2020-04-21T02:33:34Z

Website not working for me, either! Respond here when it's fixed and I'll be happy to play/review!

Meet God Under the Neon Lights by Systematic 2020-04-21T04:24:22Z

Neat idea, but it gets tiresome almost immediately. With no real threat and nothing changing from level to level, there's no incentive to keep playing except for a potential payoff of "seeing Him" which, I'll admit, will keep people invested (though that payoff landed flat as well). Some sort of threat to the player would be great, or new levels, or moving citizens -- something to change the pace.

The Bloodhaven Academy Dragon Club by Truefaux 2020-04-21T02:07:50Z

Neat enough idea, though it doesn't make a good first impression. Typos are frequent and the very impressive character and dragon art don't show up for quite some time -- until then it's just stock photos and plain text. I wish I could *not* take a dragon into my team just because I encounter it; I came across one with worse stats than both of mine, and still had to replace one. Overall, I just wish there was more to do -- pick training regiments for dragons instead of just finding new ones, maybe?

Scrambl'd by StarErik 2020-04-22T02:17:13Z

Easily one of the best games I've played so far. Instantly took me back to the GameBoy days -- amazing job with the aesthetic all around!

PRECURSOR by thaniel 2020-04-22T02:23:05Z

Feels weird to have a checkpoint before the "sike" bit, but then after it I have to replay everything all over again? Definitely appropriately challenging, but I eventually gave up because I was sick of playing the first four or so levels.
