HAHA Why didnt you protect me mommy!!!!!!!!!! Well done lol
Sadly, got nothing but a black screen with the bouncing heart/dragon thing in the middle ):
@forevertrash You might need to disable adblock, or run in an incognito/private browser window. Which link did you try, the github or the itch one? Thanks!
This is as fun as it is hilarious. Love the original voice recorded sfx! Did not expect that third wave though - took me by suprise.
That hilarious sounds, awesome!
Really liked the dragon animations and noises, a simple setup but a lot of character.
hilarious! Great job!
Awesome voice acting!
Really fun, love the aesthetic and the sounds ;)
Thanks, @nocity , I will play and rate your game as soon as I get off work!
The difficulty ramp of the third wave was surprising... and made me love the 'Game Over' sequence all the more!
 on your :face_palm: nam nam nam....
:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:
top tier gameplay rivalling the greats.
blood ... so much blood :scream:
This game is very good. The gameplay is simple and fun, when the dragons die those soldiers really go at it XD I think if you had some sort of indicator of score or how much meat I let through, that would be good. I noticed that the dragons liked eating it, but I didn't have any indication of whether that was a good thing. It did make me thing of different angles to aim the fire though, and I suppose with a score it becomes a question of, "do I want to just fire in a straight line, destroying the meat, or aim differently?"
The graphics are interesting. On the one hand, it has the weird bump mapped textures that have all their lighting a bit off, but on the other hand, I really liked the dragon and everything else, especially how it moved. It reminded me of those old flash ads you used to see on websites. It also reminded me of some incredibly old 90s shows (Through the Dragon's Eye anyone?).
Good job on this! Was really fun!
@dragonayzer My goal is to get an audible chuckle from every player and maybe a 'WTF', I hope you got yours. Thank you for playing!
@purpledartfrog Thank you for your kind emoji! I will play and rate your game when I get off work today!
@barwani Thank you for your kind words. I will play and rate your game when I get off work today!
@baylej I hope you enjoyed it! I will play and rate your game when I get off work today!
@adam-clayden Good points! I desperately wanted a score system (to make the meat actually relevant to the gameplay) but in the last hours of the compo I had to decide between music/sound effects or a score system. I think, in the end, I made the right decision but I really, really wish I had time to get them both done.
@adam-clayden (con't) There were no bump maps or rendering tricks of any kind - all the assets were drawn with the paint tools in GIMP, nothing rendered. Just awkward brush strokes, tons of filters with exaggerated settings, and some gradients. I agree the art is objectively bad but it does make me happy to hear that it's "remarkable" in some way lol
Thank you for playing, rating, and commenting!
The baby dragon voices were certainly an interesting stylistic choice :) I agree that music and sound is more important than score - you still had win/loss conditions. I think the only tweak I'd make is if you lose, start over from the current wave rather than the first one. It's kind a bummer to lose so much progress on the final wave. Nicely done!
Golden voice acting, but the fireball charge sound wasn't good. Also there was no drawback to just charging the fireball and waiting for knights to appear. Instead, you could have made it so that you would lose the fireball after a bit of time or move slower when charging the fireball, so that you have to think if you want to charge it now.
Voice acting was great. It felt REALLY easy until the 3rd wave when a single knight killed my baby. Felt like it could have used some balancing maybe?
I really like this one. The core mechanic of shooting the knights once but having to avoid shooting them twice is unique and challenging. The way that the baby dragons and the knights fidget around is really lively, and I like the atari sound effects on the dragon. If I had to give one criticism, it would be that the bump mapped textures don't look great. But overall, this is a really solid entry.
I really liked the sound effects, the arcade vibe and the animation when a baby dragon is being killed. Really nice game, congratulations!!!
@cheesepencil Awesome game and great efforts has been put into it, Loved the original Idea and Difficulty curve and final round was hard but it's so satisfying great mechanics awesome original game, Keep up the good work!
Thank you all for playing! I will play and rate all your games in return <3
@shawn-moore @stefanie-leitch Full disclosure I barely did any play testing until the compo ended, it was only with minutes to spare I got sounds and music working. The game is winnable though, I promise! Also I **love** the idea of restarting at the same wave, but 48 hours just wasn't enough to implement all the quality of life features I wanted. Thank you for playing and leaving feedback!
@thedestoryer Preventing players from holding the charge was on my wish list, but 48 hours just isn't enough time. To compensate, I tried to make the final wave so frantic nobody would have time to charge fully anyway! Thank you for playing and leaving feedback!
@quinn-patrick I wish I had thought of bump mapping at the time, but all the visual assets are made with brushes, filters on top of filters, and gradients in GIMP. No lighting or rendering technology at all lol. Thank you for playing and leaving feedback!
@pips Thank you for playing and your kind words!
@wassim Thank you for the kind words, I am so glad you enjoyed it! I will be playing your game tonight!
The shooting feels really satisfying, hitting a whole row at once. I loved the sounds, very funny game!
nice game
Nice, I really dig this retro-stylistic and all the whimsical effects you added to the dragons! Your sound game was on point, huge respect for that!
Great game, loved the voices, too funny lol
Fun cute game!
Loved the sound effects and the way you gotta act fast to make it (even though I didn't quite beat it )
Hey there. I played our game on-stream last night. Thanks for sharing it!
The voice-acting was splendid - I got a good laugh out of the absurdity of it all.
This game had a bit of an original Playstation vibe to it that I really dug. Could be the color palette. You mentioned that the steaks were meant to award points and there would be points-tracking to see how well a player did each round. Love that - definitely put that in the post-dare.
Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
LOVED the sound effects! The game reminded me of Tapper. Would love to see that points system implemented alongside some new level designs. Congrats on the submission!!
Great entry! I loved that you did voice effects and charging the fireball felt very rewarding. It was missing some game elements, like score or any kind of progression but i know its hard to make bigger scale stuff in the time allotted. Not bad at all
Very neat game. I liked how you could move the dragon's head up and down to avoid shooting the meat. It was fun and the last wave was hard! I enjoyed you game, good job!
The idea and gamplay are simple, but well made and fun to play. Sounds... Sounds are hilarious as hell.
Mommy didn't protect D: I'm so sorry Great game, well done!
Cute game! Though those graphics kinda hurt my eyes in the title screen lol The sound they make when they die still gets me everytime xD
Just missing a score too.
Here's my playthrough of it: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/600641768
Fun game! Silly but endearing baby dragon art and voices, satisfying fireball attack, and good difficulty ramp. Incorporating a hunger mechanic for the babies and multiple types of enemies would be great additions. Good job!
Simple and effective gameplay loop. I like how precise you can be with the fireballs. An enemy type with a range attack that you can block with the dragon's body or "cook" with your fireballs could be a good addition. Well done !
HAHA Why didnt you protect me mommy! XD
That made my happy on the big smile. I liked animation of charging the "fire". The graphics could be better but for 2 ways work is ok;) Would be great if dragon had a mele attack to eat enemies
Gotta love when your dinner walks right towards your kids after it's been cooked. Gameplay feels good, but it did get repetitive by the end.
Played on stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/601008124
This was great! Looked nice and sounds were fun! You can tell a lot of work went into it, thank you for making this! It made me hungwy.
LOL!!!!!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD THIS WAS FUNNY AND GOOD! LOVE THE DRAGON EATING SOUNDS, AND FACT THAT YOU CAN BURN YOUR FOOD! WELL DONE!! NUMNUMNUMNUM!!
I liked the twist on the tower defense mechanic where in you had to have the 'transformed' enemies reach the end to score, but also could destroy them while trying to attack oncoming waves. The music was nice, but it needed to repeat (it cut off midway through the second wave and didn't start again until the next wave did leaving an uncomfortable silence). Art could have done with being a little clearer and the UI would benefit from something indicating how far along a wave you were. It would also be good if the game didn't end the moment you lost one of your three dragons, and instead treated them as lives. Other than that, this was a good entry for a weekend's work. Nice game.
Made it to the third wave but then they were moving too quickly haha. Great entry, especially for a compo! Some things I noted: the top lane dragon was blocked by the mom so I didn't actually know there was a baby up there until a the steak made its way to it. I think having the player lose when they lose just one dragon is a bit too difficult. I personally would've liked to see them act as score multipliers, so like if you had 3 babies surviving, your score would be multiplied by 3 for example. All in all, really enjoyed it!
@legavroche You can move the dragon head up and down with `W` and `S` so the neck doesn't obstruct the top row's baby.
I wish you didn't have to restart from the first wave if you lost. it was a fun game. loved the gamedesign and how you need not to destroy food.
I think also the baby dragons needs a hunger bar..
good game!
@abdurrahman-khallouf Yes! All great ideas, 48 hours is just not enough for all the stuff I wanted `3`
@cheesepencil Ahhh, can't believe I missed that haha, just had another go at it and definitely felt a lot better to control
This game has the best sound design ever
Really nice idea this game felt very fun to play. It has a lovely silly mood with the dragon voices and the quirky visuals <3.I like that it's not too long so the pacing is really good especially for a game jam game. Please, when you make a game that's controlled with W and S, make it also controllable with arrow keys - a lot of people don't have a keyboard where S is below W.
@spawnie I'm so sorry I forgot cursor keys!!! That's totally my fault, and I'm ashamed because I absolutely remember to do it for LD44 but forgot this time. I have update the game to amend this glaring omission, and even if you don't have time to give it another shot, at least nobody with a non-QWERTY layout will suffer the way you suffered.
My sincerest apologies, and thank you for playing, rating, and leaving such helpful feedback.
Great controls and the dragon theme is absolutely awesome! It is remarkable that you did all this on your own! Congratulations and I am sure some more dragon skins would be great! Good luck with Ludum Dare!
Very fun game with the dragon killing the knights. good balancing making it not to easy. i failed at wave2 but i hope i could manage to finish the game with some training :D
Dude, this game is so much fun! Congratulations! This was a solid entry!
Very fun game! I love the voice acting =)
It would be nice to add some consequences to not feeding the baby-dragons. Also, maybe limit the shots per unit of time. Currently, there is no point for a player to be accurate when shooting fire.
@mulberg I *think* I gave the fireballs a 1 second cooldown, but it's also buggy AF so maybe it doesn't do it all the time lol! Thank you for playing, rating, and leaving feedback
@cheesepencil thank you so much for adding arrow key support, I can now go on to beat the game !
I'm so glad I checked out your game! Thanks for sharing!! It had many humorous aspects and I love the the concept. I would love to see a post jam version with a little more time on spent on the art. Well done!
This was fun. Really well balanced waves of solders. Good physics on the fireballs. Funny voice effects. The way you distort the dragon's neck is wicked too. Well done!
fun game had a ... blast. The graphics felt kinda chunky. I liked the voices/sound effects.
Thanks for the game! Loved the voice acting, and the graphics and fonts felt very nostalgic, took me back to old 90s PC hack'n'slash/RTS fantasy games. The mood is great, everything contributes nicely to that feel. The combat is satisfying, it feels good to hit several enemies with one projectile, and being able to fire faster and slower shots is fun.
Next I would look at adding some different enemy types, and maybe new stage graphics for each wave. Maybe get a little darker and more orchestral with the music to fit the fantasy theme too!
Fun small game overall.
Instead of just randomizing speed, you could have made another type of enemy, just going faster, maybe flying around like the good old castlevania head, or even a slow big enemy that take multiple shot to kill. I find the lack of different enemy kinda boring, just playing the same 3 level, but just going faster than previous one. That's pretty much feels like some kind of endless survival, but instead, it's limited, and all wave are the same. It could have been 3 time the same with just an easy / medium / hard in the beginning. Yeah, diversity would have definitly made the waves system funnier.
Now, for the good points, i like the concept, that feels like old horizontal space shooter but it's not space and there's knights and baby dragons that are sad to die (made me sad too !), the small SFX and voices, and these graphics are pretty cool, and considering the tools you used, that's a pretty well done game.
Thanks @vollfeiw for playing, rating, and leaving helpful feedback! Later on I'll write up a post-mortem and share my very long, hopelessly over-scoped wish list of features - which includes a larger variety of baddies as you suggested!
Great game! It was very stressful to play it, and I really liked that. The sounds are not very good, but for a game jam it's fine. I really liked that the small dragons said WHY DID YOU NOT SAVE US MOMMY or something like that
 That was so funny! I loved the barks the little dragons made and "Why didn't you protect me, mommmmmmmy"? made me almost fall out of my chair.
I liked the concept and I think it fits the theme nicely. It is an impressive piece of work for such a short time. By the way, even though you didn't implement the point system, I still tried not to shoot the knight-steaks :).
I'm not a fan of holding-button mechanics to shoot, but it made sense here and helped the gameplay. Funny sounds and a simple gameloop made this really fun to play. Nice job!
@koemeterion What's an example of a really annoying holding-button mechanic? I'm glad I did it right but I'm curious about what a worse case scenario looks like lol
This was great! I couldn't get the gamepad to work, which is ironic since you had gamepad problems on _my_ game, and we're both using Phaser! Still, the gameplay was fun and got a bit frantic after a while too... the sound effects are fantastic. "Why didn't you protect me mummy!?" I literally did a spit take at that! I'd like to see some scoring on this, and there didn't seem to be any penalty for charring the meat with a second fireball. Good fun, nice entry.
lol humour medal incoming
oh god, the voice acting is just top notch, not even joking :'D
Really loved the whole principle behind the game, and it was quite fun to play! Thank you so much for the good few laughs I had with it!
The sound effects made this game amazing. I LOLed. Movement was smooth, graphics were serviceable, figuring out how best to aim the fire breath without overcooking the meat was fun!
@cheesepencil Good question. Most games with bows have this. Even that it makes kind of sense in those games to hold a button, it feels not good to me. I like to have the "press button -> action happens" feeling. Holding a button feels boring in most cases. It slows the action down and I dont like it (not always though).
The voice acting is legitimately cute and charming, which is a great feat for a gamejam!
This is a nice take on a root beer tapper style game. It was fun getting trick shots for multiple kills or shooting diagonally around steaks (even though you say there are no points in the description, the "yippee" is enough reward).
Thanks for the review! Game was amazing and I loved the "numnumnumnum" and "WHY DIDN'T YOU PROTECT ME MOMMY!!!"
Yummy barbecued knights! Nice music and cute animations. Movement of the dragons head on the keyboard was a bit FlappyDragon-ish, but still fun. Yippe!
@zondarg Y'all got lucky with the controls, my original idea was QWOP but with dragons. Thanks for playing!
I liked the different shooting options, I like games where I can trace the shot. Nice and satisfying sound design. My only gripe is that the music doesn't loop if you're in the same wave. other than that, great entry!
Finally got a chacce to pop in -- this is great. I love the deformation of the dragon neck... the fire effects and of course the voice acting. Good show!
I found that after you lose if you keep waiting more knights come out and ends being even more humourous game over screen than before XD
A charming little game, the audio and death cries of the dragons were funny. The only drawback was the slightly too long charge time for even the quickest shot, when you've got a knight quite close as you missed it can be almost too late to fire and send a fireball by the time they're 2/3 of the way there when it feels like you should be able to react in time.
Very good idea well in the theme. The fact that you have to transform people in meat, and then avoid to burn the meat for the babies dragons is cool and the gameplay work very well. It's a simple addictive mechanic. The control of the dragon is soft. Art and sound are pleasant, and you must had fun to make the voice of the baby dragons. I laugh when I heard it the first time. ^^ Congratulation.
I really enjoyed this entry. The graphics and voice effects were wonderful, and the gameplay was simple but engaging. The fireball sound was a bit grating after a while, and I found the final wave difficulty escalated a bit too much. The game over voice in particular was very entertaining.
I think it crashed during the final wave for me :( But I really enjoyed it while it lasted :) That's the trouble with dwagons, always hungry. Also something about the design of the steaks that the knights turned into really reminded me, of the Dragon Steak from Dungeon Master, which is a steak made of dragon. Maybe a dark twist there? Love the sound effects and voices.

Interesting game. I appreciated the voice acting. But level 3 is crazy tough, have you been able to beat it? I tried 3-4 times and I couldn't. ha
Fun little game though. Well done.
@joe40001 Level 3 is impossible if you don't move the dragon's head up and down with `W` and `S` (I've noticed a lot of players ignore this mechanic), but yes, I've beat it and a couple streamers have as well... I promise it's beatable!
Thank you for playing and your thoughtful feedback!
Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for us to check out! If you'd like to watch again, the highlight is at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/617113698
The game was super-cute.
What a cute Game. The Graphics are awesome and I liked especially the dynamic neck of the Dragon.
The soundeffects are very cool and give the game some nice depth ;)
Overall a really cool game. Well Done.
This made me happy! I had a great time playing it on stream. You managed to take a relatively simple concept and add enough depth and decision making to make the game interesting to play and tempting to replay! The sounds too... ahah! :D
While I wasn't able to beat the final wave, it was still a very fun game. I liked the art style. One thing is that when the knights get close to your babies you still have a chance to shoot them but you can't turn your head around. I liked the audio and the voice acting was a good addition. Overall a really good Ludum Dare game!

Very fun and interesting game!! One of the best games I played on this edition of Ludum Dare, congrats!
Very nice, although the final wave was pretty hard!
