LD46 — Keep it alive

Raincatcher by Frank Boivin 2020-04-21T02:30:02Z

I really loved the artwork for this game -- it was smooth, cohesive and thematic! Sound effects and some music might've helped with the mood of the game.

Also, maybe I just suck, but it was really hard. My best time (it was enough fun that I tried four or five times) was 30 seconds. It took me a couple of times to realize that the Flame Shields were really the key to victory, but those low angle rain drops still killed me.

All in all, great effort!

Beautiful pixel art and the sound was great. Very atmospheric!

I'll double up on a comment above -- this is really inspirational output for just 2 days. The chunky art was charming and the puzzle mechanics were enjoyable, if not crystal clear.

That said, I didn't love the battle system. It seemed like a 'bolt on' and got in the way of my figuring out how to get varieties of flowers.

But still, super solid output for the Compo!

I liked the clean, minimalist art. You did a lot with very few lines! It was funny and the sense of polish was really impressive. It felt *good* to beat up those cup-cake spirits.

Wacky fun! The art was great and the music fit the mood perfectly.

It was the frustrating kind of fun while I figured out how to play. The text instructions on both this page and the itch.io page left out the 'press C to use objects' instruction -- fortunately the in-game Tutorial had that little tid-bit.

Great job!

Loved the God-Game like mechanics and thought the pixel art was charming. The tutorial was absolutely required before playing!

There was some 'stickiness' with the mouse controls and clicking (particularly if you didn't have enough Influence to terraform) which was sub-optimal. Also, that Mountain sprite *really* stuck out.

Great game -- great job!

I loved the Pixel Art -- especially the understated background. But my *favorite* part was how gosh-darned *satisfying* it was to fire those missiles.

Great fun!

The sound effects made this game amazing. I LOLed. Movement was smooth, graphics were serviceable, figuring out how best to aim the fire breath without overcooking the meat was fun!

The Abomination by vano 2020-04-21T04:47:02Z

Smooth controls and a consistent aesthetic help tie everything together. Puzzle-like mechanics are always fun!

Great effort!

Solar Spin by Matt Burton 2020-04-21T02:56:25Z

Music and aesthetics were top-notch!

I originally thought I was going to be trying to zoom in and out of the patterns, but when I realized I needed to *dance* through them... Well. That was amazing.

Thank you for this!

Probably the biggest piece of feedback I can offer is that the 'shooter' mechanics felt slippery in a way I didn't like. Without a crosshair, it was hard to tell what I was going to hit (if anything).

Visually, it was a little hard to tell which things were enemies -- I originally thought the balls were the Energy I thought I was supposed to collect and I thought the Energy I was supposed to collect was the enemies.

But the level design and other artwork reminded me of a misspent youth, so big thumbs up for that!

Son of a Liche by goblinkingmatt 2020-04-22T15:09:33Z

I think the mildly janky controls and ridiculous rag-doll of the skeleton are a big part of this game's charm. I couldn't swear it was deliberate, but it *seemed* deliberate.

The graphics read just fine and I really enjoyed the 'spooky' skeleton rattling. Great job -- it was a lot of fun!
