Cool idea!
This game was cool. But There are so many combinations and most created a plain flower. More variation would be great. But very cool little crafting type puzzle game.
Nice aesthetics! I especially like the font for the dialogue window!
Beautiful game! Stunning graphics and music!
Very beautiful, I really loved your game! The graphics are great and the game is super smooth, I am impressed by this result :) Good luck for the future !
Enjoyed so far. ^_^ Doesn't seem to be a way to cancel seed placement, though, meaning I managed to run myself out of seeds because I placed a bad choice down? (Was in combat)
Since you asked so nicely, I'll give you all the kinds of feedback: grumpy - "I didn't like your game and you wasted my time so I won't give you any constructive criticism" polite - "I didn't like your game but here's some constructive criticism so you can do better next time" grumpy but liked your game - "I liked your game but [x] didn't work properly and I won't tell you how to fix it" loved your game - "great game! The only thing you could do better is to fix [x] and here's how I'd do it:"
I'm kinda in the middle with your game. It didn't scale very well, but the art itself was nice. The music was okay... it was nice, but nothing to write home about. Gameplay wise, it's innovative but a bit bland. Granted, this is for a jam. Speaking of the jam, your game is only very slightly connected to the theme.
The graphics are really cute! I like the premise. Well done!
Very nice! Definite Undertale vibe. Combat could use more feedback, it was hard to tell what was happening damage-wise. I wasn't smart enough to figure out how to make the green flower haha
Really cute game ! i liked the mix of crafting & combat aspect of it. It kinda has a undertale vibe...
Wow. Definitely one of my favorites yet. I didn't expect much at the beginning, but the story kept getting more and more interesting. I really enjoyed the twist and the ending, gave me undertale vibes. Clever writing, impressive atmosphere, and a beautiful yet really intriguing world, you immediately feel that something is off. Also (spoilers) poor Miggs.
This game has exceptional potential. I'd definitely play a complete, longer post-jam version just for the story. Amazing job !
Gorgeous game. Can't imagine how you made it to the Compo finishline, as it feels so finished o:
That being said, controlling the 'inventory' was a bit frustrating and even made me quit the game in the first bee-fight after repeatedly being told YOU HAVE NO SEEDS.
But honestly, with a bit of polish and quality of life improvements, this game is ready for the world! Astonishing to think you did all this in 2 days! Wonderful job!
I really liked the titular screen and the character art. I enjoyed the chunky sprite work and the 1bit vibes from the interface. Minor gripes would be inconsistent capitalization of letters (for instance your surname starts with a lowercase) and lack of any menu to exit the application. I understand that I plant the seeds but once I'd grown a yellow flower, I tried to talk to the lady and it wouldn't respond. I then proceeded to try all manner of seeds combos to no avail, so perhaps I shouldn't have harvested it before talking to her. Is this a bug or is this my player incompetence?
The music sets the mood but does become a tiny bit repetitive. I don't mean this to all sound too critical; for a game made solo in 48 hours I think it's a remarkable achievement. The seed system actually looks like there is some depth there and there was decent character development in a very short period of time. I would encourage you to explore the prototype further as there's definitely promise here - this mechanic built into an over arching metagame would definitely hold an appeal.
Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your submission!
I liked the game and its mood, though I must say it did not last very long. Neat idea and I enjoyed my time with it. It had some bugs and I had to restart a couple times, but it is expected. Not sure what we're "keeping alive" though. Overall good game.
@madebychaz Oh wow i hadn't even thought about that... yeah don't pick the yellow flower haha whoops.
Pretty good game, I got as far as the make a white flower but then I made some combination I couldnt plant and got stuck, I think you had some inspiration from undertale in terms of mood and art didnt you. Also music fit the mood well. Only complaint is it didn't fit the theme.
@digitaldude555 Ahh dang. There's a button to the right of the menu to return any seeds to your inventory. I forgot to mention it in the tutorial.
I'll add this image to my page.
websiteTooltipsm.png
@blobo no I actually used that button a lot but when I click plant button there was no plant and I couldnt plant anything. Not sure what happened.
@digitaldude555 Oh dang... huh. whoops.
@digitaldude555 sorry for pinging you a billion times. I figured it out, I'm dumb. Thanks for telling me about the bug by the way! I fixed it in the softlock fix (post submission)
Really great job. The art was really good and had a fun puzzle mechanic that was integrated well with a turn based battle system. I ran into a bug when I was trying to replicate Miggs' secret recipe and after I didn't get the combo right it gave me an invisible plant and wouldn't let me go back to the seed screen. I also wish there was way to pause the game. And I didn't realize that you could actually return the seeds until later in the game. Overall I had fun with this and I really like the characters so far!
That was a very interesting game. The seed system for growing flowers was really cool and added a lot of depth to the game. I played the windows version and didn't run into any bugs. It was a fun and enjoyable game for being made in 48 hours, well done!
I'll double up on a comment above -- this is really inspirational output for just 2 days. The chunky art was charming and the puzzle mechanics were enjoyable, if not crystal clear.
That said, I didn't love the battle system. It seemed like a 'bolt on' and got in the way of my figuring out how to get varieties of flowers.
But still, super solid output for the Compo!
I really liked the Undertale-ish art. Gameplay was fun but I encountered a bug where I couldn't plant anything. One of my favourite entries so far. Some more variations would be nice.
This game had nice art and a unique charm. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the battle mechanics, but otherwise, I like it.
I liked the old school rpg games vibe, all was good until I got stuck on "bugs" fight I guess. I was out of seeds, couldn't drag water unfortunately.
unresponsive.png
@zguba yeah, the button to return seeds is still there but for whatever reason it's invisible.
A see a lot of potencial here. The main mechanic rules and the combat maybe need a bit refining, but is a cool idea. Great job!!
Lovely art and interesting mechanics and world building. It's really good, despite finding the same small issues as other people I think this has a lot of potential.
Holy cow this game is amazing, it looks and sounds awesome, the premise is very interesting, reminds me a bit of doodle god style games but with some extra puzzle elemnts regarding the order to place the seeds and such. I like the puzzly aspect of it when you get a hint to figuring out how you would build it. You even managed to sprinkle in a nice bit of story line, it certainly was enough to get me attached to a certain character just in time for their demise. The one thing I can complain about is that the combat is a bit obtuse. I didn't really understand why sometimes I would deal damage and sometimes not, I basically just resorted to just place down as many flowers as possible and that got me the win in every encounter.
Really cool puzzle mechanic and vibe. I really liked it.
Got stuck on the third level and unfortunately the game crashed :( Still, really enjoyed it. Congrats!
The plant crafting gives me a bit of chemistry vibe, with different atoms having different conditions to join in :)
I got stuck in this battle screen; no matter what I plant, the subsequent attack wipes it out. What should I do?
Screen Shot 2020-04-22 at 11.29.57 AM.png
@eldar oh wow I forgot that dark plants would also have battles. whoops, yeah the dark plants attack twice so there's nothing you can do. Sorry about that, I was going to add a 'run' button of sorts, but this game way ran out of time. Sorry about that.
I actually ran into a few soft locks in the post jam version.
1) Whenever I crafted the white flower, my camera started glitching up and down, meaning I couldn't interact with anything. 2) In combat if you run out of seeds there's no way to get them back like you can in the normal gardening. 3) In combat once my flower dissapeared into seeds before it could do anything, every turn, no matter what flower I used.
That being said, no other game in the jam so far would have been nearly compelling enough to get me to retry after all of these issues. So fantastic job on the characters, art, and everything else wonderful about this game!
So I was also stuck against the dark plant. I eventually couldn't even place a plant on the left and middle spot. It's a shame, because it's a fantastic compo game that feels like a 3-man jam game. It's as quality as Danman's games (it's the best compliment I can give to anyone), just with technical issues. I'm clicking follow in case you release a post-post-compo version.
y.png
@alaah @teo-miklethun I had the same issue with dark flowers, the author said a couple of comments above that dark flowers interaction is a (programming) bug - just don't let the bugs haunt your dark flowers :)
Just finished it - although I'm not sure if I was supposed to (more info behind the spoiler below).
I liked many things about the game: cute graphics, nice audio (especially the final boss soundtrack hehe), elaborate crafting system, the fact that there is a storyline. That said, it felt like there was some unrealized potential and a fair share of bugs. I want to note that even the game effectively freezing on me when I tried chasing a bug off a dark flower, it was exciting enough to get right back in!
Some issues of varying severity:
-Fighting against dark flowers doesn't work (for the sake of completeness)
-Having to "scroll" down for choosing plants is a bit tedious
-After what happens to Miggs, the screen got stuck in the lower mode, and I had to explicitly click on crafting and then up to unstuck it
-Flower designs that lead to unique flowers are too limited compared to all the possible theoretical combinations; it felt like you gave us this boundless universe but only put 5 planets in it :)
-Narrative-wise, planting dark flowers within 2 minutes of being told that you should never ever plant them feels a bit rushed
[SPOILER]
I think the game let me fight Tilde earlier than intended. Right after she told me to craft a white flower, I went to Tilde to ask her how to do it ("Combine all other flowers"), then went back to Miggs, "talked" to her, and then checked my objective. I had Miggs's recipe for the giant dark cabbage in the objective (instead of "grow a white flower" or anything like that, and after growing it I immediately got to fight Tilde. My impression is that I somehow took an unintended shortcut, and I was supposed to first actually grow white flowers?
This is a great idea! Sometimes I found it difficult to create the plants I wanted, no matter what combination I used, but still. Would love to see this expanded.
Wow, I absolutely loved it! The aesthetics are top notch, the audio is really great, the gameplay is very very nicely done and very clever. Fun little story and there's tons of potential for a fully fledged-out game there.
Congrats for the good work, keep it up, this is for sure my favorite entry so far :)
Neat little idea, especially the flower building from seeds. It's a bit unfortunate that most combinations seemed to create the same flower, and I couldn't quite figure out any rules so I got stuck on the green flower task :/ Nice graphics though, and having the different characters with dialogue adds some good structure.
Well that was an acid trip. In a good way. The art was great, and you managed to create a really creepy atmosphere where I wasn't sure what was going to happen next. I can tell the combat portion of the game was rushed and under-utilized, and the story was probably cut short. It seemed ambitious, and scoping is hard!
I didn't see a ton of the theme come out in the game, but again you might have had an overarching story related to the theme that never came to fruition. I also found a game-breaking bug near the end and had to play it through once more: when Tilde asks you to grow a white flower, I thought I'd be cheeky (and out of curiosity) and I made the thing that Miggs had shown me earlier which I never got to see. The game did not seem to like that.
At any rate, I enjoyed what there was, and it definitely made an impression with the atmosphere and mood, which was really top-notch.
**Edit:** I just have to say that I realized after the fact that this was a compo and not a jam, and that's really impressive. 48 hours is a crucible!
@wheffle Ahhh dang. with every comment I hear about another thing i forgot to fix, haha! Whoops, i should've checked if you were after that part story-wise and have it give you a red flower. My bad. Glad to hear you like the game though, and yeah, there was definitely some more stuff that had to be cut due to running out of time that would've otherwise been related to the theme, but hey. 48 hours.
Lots of cool ideas, here. And a whole story, wow! It took quite a bit of time to build all the blueprints I was given; I liked the open-ended goals like "make a loop" a lot more. The puzzle combat was simple, but I could see both parts of the game getting fleshed out a lot more. A very productive 48 hours!
Great game. Had some lag with the mac version when planting stuff, it would freeze for a few seconds, but that's not necessarily surprising for a cross-platform compo game. Loved the art, big pixels, movement and general vibe of the game, I'm going to check out more of your work.
Hey, very nice game and very complete! Great work considering the short time
Game broke making the plant after the green one. Annotation 2020-04-25 173801.png I started making the plant at the bottom right.
An overall suggestion would be to tell the player that all the slots have to be filled. That's what confused me making the green plant.
@blobo How the ... did you do all that in 48 hours? Amazing. I liked the graphics, made me think of Undertail. A few times I had problems combining the seeds, but that can be caused by me playing it on Linux using Wine, so don't take it seriously. Great job.
Impressive work on art in 2 days
Probably the best game of this jam. Done in 48 hours... Wow. Your work is very inspiring, thank you.
I played this even with the softlock fix and ran into a few oopsies regardless. ~ didn't seem to care that I already had white seeds and grew a white flower for her, so I tried to use the red and purple seeds in a recipe to progress the story, and as soon as I did so, it glitched out and gave me a blank flower that couldn't plant, looking like the same visual glitch Clayton has.
I like the visuals and the potential of the flower crafting mechanic. The story/characters seem a bit claustrophobic, being stuck between a murderous garden of eden caretaker and the snake holding the apple, but in 2 days I wouldn't expect depth on that front.
For real is not my type of game, but Iloved the art and the the music, I only had one bug that I let some seeds on the "table" when I finished the combat and when I entered the seeds keep appearing but they don't combine and kind Lock the plant and atack button. Good work and good luck.
(wish learn how to make pixel art like you)
Adorable graphics with a really cute concept!! Love it!!
Neat concept, pretty fun way to fight the bugs by growing plants !
It's a nice concept. A little confusing and it's missing some sfx. But I think you should continue working on this and refine the idea because there is potential to it. Also, you should add an exit button. Maybe I missed it, but I could not quit the game. I tried the obvious ESC but ended up killing the process (mac). I love your graphics style. Controls are easy to use. Nice and mysterious music.Good LD entry!
The artstyle was lovely, I liked the colorful plants and characters in contrast to the dark backgrounds.
Gameplay was very ambitious, especially for a compo, but it seemed to work alright
I got stuck trying to make a green plant and I dont know what I missed, but I still thought it was pretty cool.
Art was really nice and the theme fit nicely. Plants were nice and bright, which helped it really stand out! Game played well, but had some difficulty to it. Definitey a good one!
Good stuff:
This is a very complete game for a game jam. There's a whole lot of content, an actual story, complete mechanics, the whole package. The art is especially gorgeous, with detailed, nicely shaded characters. I really, really liked the puzzle-game style seed combining mechanics-- it definitely felt like something an entire game could be built around, and it's quite fleshed out here.
Areas for improvement:
The whole fighting aspect of the game felt unnecessary and weak in comparison to the main mechanics. Ran into a few bugs (soft locked at the final flower) but that's to be expected in a game jam. UI could have had more options (an undo function, exit) but that didn't really detract from the experience.
Overall:
This is a truly fantastic game, and I hope you keep working on it, because I think with just a little more time it could be made even better!
Also, is it possible to make the white flower? I know that's not the intended ending, but is it actually impossible? I think it can't be done, but I'm not sure.
The puzzles seemed cool, but I didn't really like the combat. Dynamic music was great, and the graphic style worked really well. I seemed to run into a lot of bugs, and wasn't able to finish the game. I think I accidentally grew a white flower before I unlocked the red flower. So Tilde didn't seem to notice my white flower. Then I created a weird purple bud, but I couldn't plant it and it broke the game. When I tried to plant it, it told me I needed to put it in a special place in Tilde's garden.
I think the seed puzzle aspect wasn't tutorialized very well, but it was definitely pretty cool once I figured out how it worked. The overworld and combat elements just didn't really click with me, unfortunately. I think there's potential for a really cool puzzle game here, though.
I really like it, feels a whole lot like Undertale in a good way. That being said, there's a lot I felt was *almost* there and could be improved later, most importantly that I never understood exactly what was going on with the combat.
And, unfortunately, a bug blocked me on two occasions (the first time I quit and restarted, the second time I gave up, very close to the end) where trying to create some sort of invalid plant has me try to plant nothing into a plot (looks like the same bug as Clayton) and that locked me into a broken state that couldn't be resolved.
Shame, I really wanted to see what would happen!
Stunning art. Love the undertale-esque mixing of genres.
Very cool idea. Love the gameplay and the mood.
Great art and fascinating gameplay! I love it!
cute artwork with a puzzle gameplay, and it's very cool to finish this under a compo title. The game play could be polished more, the battle part is a little bit boring for me. By the way, how to plant a green flower?
Now this was remarkable. Neat graphics, nice music, smooth controls and even story. Congrats on a hard work, i had quite a time playing it and trying to figure out how to proceed.
Some bug prevent me from going further once Miggs gave me a complex scheme and try to put the seeds together and then i was stuck with a yellow seed in hand and couldn't quit the planning screen and do anything else.
Other than that, excellent work!
Neat! A lot of work went into this, and most of it shows of!
It felt a bit weird to be fighting bees and other pollinators as a gardener
A lot of the flower attacks felt the same for me... Perhaps it's also since you can't really see the strength, especially since it takes multiple hits to make on heart go away (my health never seemed in danger, or even lower than 3 hearths ... what's up with that?)
It also think maybe leaving the flower, and harvesting it yourself, after a victory, would increase the sense of ownership of the player over the garden.
(Also... +- 140 games & 100 karma feedback. How? How doe you manage to play, judge & comment all of those in just one week?)
Game was an absolute mood. My friend & I got super invested. What hurt the most, really, was getting soft-locked twice. Once when we didn't have enough seeds to complete a shape in combat, and once when we tried to make the white flower (couldn't place it anywhere. just glitched).
Would have liked: sound effects. The music was excellent but there were no sound effects.
Could have been better: The combat felt more like a chore than a core element of the gameplay. The gameplay felt like the puzzle of solving the storyline & building the flower shapes. Could definitely see this expanded more into an Undertale-esq game where the plant combat has more complexity.
Overall, holy heck this was a full game, and had so much shoved into it for a compo. Excellent job!
This game is really impressive for a two day compo.
The time and attention put into the dialogue, fonts, consistent art style, matching music, was really good.
It took me a while to figure out the seed mechanics, but once I realized it's kind of a little puzzle game the music also helped to set the pensive mood.
Very impressive, reminds me a bit about undertale 🤠And can only agree to what the other have said. I progressed through miggs path first with no softlock aside from the invisible replenish button in the fights. Then tried the other route and well that wasn't as successfull, but fun game anyway
Nice, the art and music are great. Pretty well-polished for a compo game.
At first sight this looks simple, yet I couldn´t be more wrong, truly impressed with all the mechanics! Great job!
Nice graphics! I like the music. Relation to the theme is low. I'm stuck in the first level... Planted 3 seeds. Couldn't do anything more..More explanation about the gameplay may be heplful.
Very nice idea, especially with the plant battles. Felt fresh (pun intended ;) but also true). It would be great if the seed combinations had more varied effects, more flower types. The art style feels consistent and the music definitely compliments the mood.
Resolution felt somewhat strange on my screen and the text was enormous.
very nice, had fun! I played the soft lock version since it seemed to fix some things, though I still ran into a bug at the end when I was trying to make a white flower and I couldn't place what I had made (it still had a bunch of extra purples) and restarted. I saw the note to make the red and purple seed flower from miggs then and made that inside of the white flower, and then fought the overseer and beat it? I really like the flower crafting system, but could use some UI improvements:
- the order of operation makes for some neat puzzles, though it makes it hard to try and visualize how something might be constructed. I kind of wanted to just place seeds down to see how they could potentially fit together. I'm not sure how I would make a white flower but I didn't need to to beat the game. - I think being able to return the seeds anytime would be nice, even if I make a correct combo, since if I complete the seed combo but didn't intend to, then I need to plant it.
I only fought the bee and the overseer using the fighting system, not sure if there was supposed to be more fighting. The story was nice though the game felt like it ended very quickly. Nice job!
Ooo, lots of cool things here! Neat crafting system, rpg combat, a little story. There is definitely polish left to do, especially for the combat. I like how the crafting system is partly about experimenting but hints are there if you need them. I really like the art and the music, how you gave the characters they're own little themes. Last thing, never forget sound effects. Audio feedback adds so much for almost no effort.
Really nice art style! Loved Tilde's mad face. Great game mechanic, and the fact that you managed to add an engaging storyline makes it all the better!
Whaou. What a game for a Jam! The art is very cute, animation is smooth, dialogues are great and the mechanic is very well managed. The system of combination is very interesting. Not easy to understand how to manage the seeds for special flowers, but it keep the curiosity alive to try it ^^ I love the characters and a fight system to keep the insects away is very clever. Congratulation!
realy great little game, realy cool concept, i want a complete game ! right now there's a lack of juciness and audio variety
Pretty good game. There's a very nice little story with some neat gameplay progression. Reusing the alchemy system for the story and the combat system is an interesting mechanic.
I originally found the fact that seeds had to be placed in a specific order a little annoying, it didn't seem to serve much purpose and seemed like a UI oversight more than anything else. But later I came to appreciate that as a puzzle-solving aspect of the game. I think it is a good puzzle, but the graphics and UI need more emphasis on the fact that seeds have to be placed in a specific order, otherwise it just feels incomplete rather than puzzle-y.
I think the combat could use a little tweaking. Sometimes I would try somewhat complicated combinations of flowers to no avail, and I would end up just wasting seeds. I think if planted flowers were more powerful when using more seeds, that would be better. Or maybe just have there be more recipes that are easy to remember? In the final fight I did remember the purple flower recipe because it was relatively straightforward. But I would be hard-pressed to remember the red flower recipe.
Overall though, very nice game, I enjoyed myself playing it.
WoW! Very nice game! Congratulation! The sound and graphics are awersome.
There is just something missing on the fight. But all this work in 48h! Very good
Great game! It hooked me, and I ended up playing past the time I had intended on spending. I'll definitely be coming back to finish this game! I got stuck with a big purple flower right after Miggs died, which I came up with at random. The game thought I was further through than I actually was, and I ended up being stuck.
Awesome Undertaly touch! Really impressive amount of work done in just 48 hours. Art, sound, music, story and mood made it really immersive. I enjoyed the plot and would really like to see even more of it. The gameplay was very original and and I liked it a lot. There were a couple of weird things but they were already mentioned in the comments above, so I won't repeat. Super well done!
LoL couldn’t resist to see what you could do in the time alloted to you. From the right outset, it looks superb and no one can tell by looking at it that https://www.mumsports.com/ it isn’t functioning well as a game. The mechanic feels about right and you gave the player all the right things to stay alive. That little slowdown from the packs was just enough to make it out of the crazyiest spaces. :-)
