LD46 — Keep it alive

DJ Hamster by blinry 2020-04-22T21:49:36Z

Once I had wrestled with controls long enough to get the hang of them this game was very fun. One thing I will say that it is sometimes a bit unclear what the good thing to collect and what the bad one is. Concretely it happened to me in level 2. Love the cute hamster.

Holy cow this game is amazing, it looks and sounds awesome, the premise is very interesting, reminds me a bit of doodle god style games but with some extra puzzle elemnts regarding the order to place the seeds and such. I like the puzzly aspect of it when you get a hint to figuring out how you would build it. You even managed to sprinkle in a nice bit of story line, it certainly was enough to get me attached to a certain character just in time for their demise. The one thing I can complain about is that the combat is a bit obtuse. I didn't really understand why sometimes I would deal damage and sometimes not, I basically just resorted to just place down as many flowers as possible and that got me the win in every encounter.

Very nice game. I especially like the the little scavenging mini game it adds a bit of tactical thinking into the mix along with the longer term strategy you need to get the monster to where you want it to be. I feel like the systems you showed off here would fit perfectly into some sort of monster collecting game a la pokemon, on their own it feels a bit barebones, but it's clear you put a lot of polish into what's here.

Unbroken Shell by Garett Cooper 2020-04-23T12:24:48Z

fun game with good vibes. I felt like the physics on the egg are just a little bit too janky though, especially considering it's very dependant on how exactly the egg is situated in your arm and there's no straightforward way to manipulate it.

KidPunk by Squeele 2020-04-23T12:58:21Z

Fun idea and nicely executed. Protecting a cute robot with my bad ass shotgun is definitely a cool concept. My biggest gripe in this game tho are slopes, they have some very weird behaviour. Also the radiation spilling off the umbrella is just a bit too finnicky in my opinion. Otherwise a very fun game though.

Trail Blazer by Teo Yong Jie 2020-04-22T16:32:48Z

Cute little platformer, I like the direction you took the theme. My biggest criticism is that the music starts from the beginning at every screen transition, which is a real shame since this track is a banger and fits the frantic "aight I gotta push forward to get to the next log" perfectly. The logs are another bad point imo, they are very finnicky to actually get the health boost from and would feel much better imo if you could grab them from the side. One last thing is that the screen transitions are very abrupt especially in the later city level, which also has some visibility issues with what is a wall and what is just the brick backdrop. Overall a very fun little game, the art is cute so is the premise, and having the track be in the main menu to listen to is great.

The Hero of the Hamlet by theyellowgreninja 2020-04-22T16:15:10Z

I like the idea but man the controls don't feel good in this game, the movespeed is too high and the enemies too small so hitting them is a real struggle. This problem is augmented by the fact that zombies taking more than one hit to kill, which imo compared to how quickly your buildings are destroyed doesn't feel great. The shop being a destroyable building is an interesting idea in concept, but leads to some very poor gameplay when coupled with the fact that buildings spawn randomly, you can just get kinda screwed over if it spawns at the edge of the map and then gets instantly munched on by a bunch of zombies. It's a shame really since the game sounds and looks awesome and it would also be a pretty fun shmup if it weren't for that fundamental issue that the character controls so poorly.

Overwatch by rkhadder 2020-04-22T21:57:04Z

Very cool idea and well executedm with a banger soundtrack. I have one little nitpick though, it would have been nice to have switching cameras on a different button than movement. Happened to me quite a few times that I'd try to switch camera and run straight into a guard.

Super Realistic Parachute Simulator by hamrathdoesldjam 2020-04-22T21:02:11Z

Fun little game, as promised very realistic :P. The hit detection on the circles feels a bit too punishing, but otherwise a very fun timesink.

Bunny's guardian angel by Vatigo 2020-04-22T22:04:24Z

Nice and simple idea with a very heartwarming ending. The physics are a bit janky at times though, especially the bombs feel very inconsistent in how they blow stuff away.

A Tree by ditam 2020-04-22T22:22:03Z

I like the idea and it's clear you put a lot of effort into the systems behind this resource management game. However it is all very cryptic, with the only hints you get in the upgrade screen but those aren't enough. The game also doesn't provide enough feedback to what's going on. Something like a notification when your roots died would be very helpful.

7 Intelligence by twobitadder 2020-04-22T22:46:27Z

Love the idea and the intro genuinly cracked me up. However not a big fan of the execution, the knight moves a bit erratic, speeding up and slowing down seemingly at random, which makes it really hard to predict when to move a possessed object. It's also tough to select the thing you want to possess when there's multiple options on the screen. Another thing that would have been nice would have been an indicator for the knight's vision radius. That would make it much easier to predict how he's gonna act.

Bloodline by Geonaut 2020-04-22T16:00:59Z

Fun idea and well executed. The levels feel very long though and added to the fact that there's no level select screen, I wanted to try the 2nd level again but didn't feel like slogging through the first level again. Definitely has that Tetris addiction factor though. The point where the music loops is a bit too noticable imo, but otherwise the track is very appropriate for a puzzler like this.

Bond Wire by Ebediam 2020-04-22T21:23:09Z

Fun idea, but the execution needs some refining. For starters the cubes are very finnicky to click on which leads to a bit of frustration when you missclick and fall to your death. Another issue is that the music starts again when you reset the level, which is a shame, since what I can hear of the soundtrack sounds awesome. I dig the portal vibes from the intro and the dog you have to protect is a fun gag, though it is a bit of a cop out regarding the theme in my opinion. When you get that perfect run where you graciously hook yourself to victory it's an awesome feeling, so you've definitely done something right.
