Amazing! Loved the graphics, loved the story elements, loved the atmosphere!

To give some criticism: I was never really sure what was happening, and why it was evolving in the different paths. Often it seemed like I only had one or two options to give it, and I didn't know what that lead to. Also, there were a lot of mechanics that seemed nice, but underdeveloped, and I think it would've been better to focus on one or two aspects (like feeding and evolving) instead of having all the things you guys did.

But surely an enjoyable game!

forging-foxes 2020-04-21 23:42

Really love the concept, think you just need to focus on giving the creature some character with animations as well as telling the player what they should do. Other than that, really good! the graphics are stunning

captainproton42 2020-04-21 23:43

The graphics and mood are just great! I was a bit lost at times at what effects my actions seemed to have although I kind of figured it out in the end and got the final evo I was aiming for. I especially enjoyed the little scavenging minigame, felt really satisfying clicking through it. All in all, one of my favourite submissions :)

rongefilet 2020-04-21 23:45

Confusing at first buy it adds to the mood, nothing really to criticize, the concept is solid, art and music are gorgeous, congrats!

triggthediscovery 2020-04-21 23:46

Great stuff! The art and the music give the game a really strong vibe, the gameplay can be obtuse, but I also the the impression that was the point.

oldetobeh 2020-04-21 23:49

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the game, the pixel art and audio is great! A little hard to understand exactly what I needed to feed my pet. Excellent interpretation of a "tomagotchi" style game. Good work!

biemorth 2020-04-21 23:51

Wow, the art is really amazing, totally enjoyable, the game has a very calm pacing and the songs are totally combined, as well as the vast amount of sound effects. It must have been a lot of work, but here's one of my favorites so far. It took me a while to understand the interactions, but it's not difficult when you realize, great entry to the jam! : D I feel that gameplay could offer something more captivating in the collection of resources, but for the time of the event it was very well achieved! Well done!

griffin76 2020-04-21 23:57

Great game, the presentation is pretty well polished too!

tobiasw 2020-04-22 00:03

Wow, this is incredibly polished. The art, the UI, the sounds, the music - everything works really well together, and with the writing it creates a lot of atmosphere! And it doesn't just have different evolutions, but I've also seen at least two different failstates - very nice.

I have gotten to all 10 states, but to be honest, I still don't know how exactly - sometimes it was intuition, sometimes it was pure luck and trial and error. Is it what I give to it? Is it how I reacts and what I give it afterwards? What do the little speech bubbles mean? And why are they also next to the evolutions in the database? I know what items influence what stats, but what does that have to do with anything? Are the end stats important for how it evolves?

I have no idea, and I'd actually love to get a bit more insight into it, if a dev would like to answer here!

It would've been really nice if the game got less confusing during my playtime, as the scientist (?) discovers more and more about what the creature wants. But even if I often wasn't sure what to do, I enjoyed the experience and the mood that was created. I think this might've been the game with the most interesting atmosphere I played so far. Well done, folks!

minibobbo 2020-04-22 19:55

Great presentation and mood. It was difficult to figure out what was going on at first, but over time I got the hang of it. I wish that the different bars in the lower left were better explained so I had some reference about what I was doing.

I got the guardian at the end of the game. I'll see what others I can unlock later.

shess 2020-04-23 09:04

Wow, thank you for the feedback so far! It's insanely helpful and motivating!

@tobiasw Actually, the evolution path is determined by a couple of flags, but most important of them is your morphling's "mood"/"humanity" meter. The more you fill it out during regular stages, the more human-like the morph becomes in attempts to mimic you. It will also begin to share more of its emotions with you and even get lonely without interaction :)

syo 2020-04-23 10:49

Perfectly implemented project on my favorite HEAPS.

chevalbancal 2020-04-23 10:50

This game is absolutely wonderful ! The pixel art is gorgeous, the sound design is amazing ! And I really liked the mood and objective ! Congratulations for making such a great game

wilhelmstein 2020-04-23 10:55

Figuring out how to play was really fun. Very pretty graphics and overall great feel.

sharbelfs 2020-04-23 10:55

Really nice game, very well done. I liked the idea of sort of exploring and trying to understand the creature. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or if it's a bug, but at some point when I clicked the Scavenge button the creature just died.

shess 2020-04-23 10:59

@sharbelfs Thank you for the feedback. Death during scavenge was not a bug - a trip to the city takes 5 turns, and your morphling will keep losing health and satiety during that time. So please make sure you keep it fed while you gather resources!

shess 2020-04-23 11:00

morphology_x2.gif Also, here's a bonus gif for everyone who played our game so far. Thanks a lot!

tygrak 2020-04-23 11:01

Great art, great music, very well polished overall. The resource collecting part was pretty cool too, because you could prioritize a certain resource, but get less resources in total for example. Lots of interesting mechanics at play here! I would totally play more of this if there was some combat or even non combat system added where you make use of the morphling you evolve. I got all the evolutions, great game!

malai 2020-04-23 11:03

It took me a while to understand what the morphling wants, but after a short while its was fun experimenting to unlock the other forms. The polish overall is astounding! Great pixel art, fitting music and sfx and overall smooth experience.

Edit: Small bug i encountered though, after I evolved the guardian the second time, I wasnt able to open the evo menu.

tomathor 2020-04-23 11:07

Very nice game. I especially like the the little scavenging mini game it adds a bit of tactical thinking into the mix along with the longer term strategy you need to get the monster to where you want it to be. I feel like the systems you showed off here would fit perfectly into some sort of monster collecting game a la pokemon, on their own it feels a bit barebones, but it's clear you put a lot of polish into what's here.

lluiso 2020-04-23 11:21

Loved it. Managed to get it to evolve into a guardian, and I find it really cool that there are other paths where the alien can evolve to. Found it easy to play and fun. Very good job!

draelent 2020-04-23 11:26

Nicely polished game ! Love the graphics especially, and the various evolution routes and responses. Really look like the complete "evolution" part of a bigger game. Good job overall

primum-ludum 2020-04-23 11:30

Great graphics! Intresting way to create a tomogotchi game looking not so tomogotch-y, and I love that u made it like scine experement! For me that kind of "puzzle" very interesting and it motivates to play till u discover all evos.

I hope, that you continue working on it, and some day it will be released!

nuckelavee13 2020-04-23 12:40

Very, very good game with intresting character!

rojola 2020-04-23 12:51

Quite a achievement for LD game! Really solid from start to finish and audiovisuals worked together very well. I am not player of these types of games, but I still managed to almost get into final stage of evolution. So they game works well or I was just lucky. The theme was taken literally with this game :D

fabula-rasa 2020-04-23 14:54

I really liked it! The graphics are great and the audio well-chosen for the theme. My morphling made the cutest sounds :). I didn't encounter any bugs or problems - a really polished experience.

My first morphling ended up as a guardian.

dsf100 2020-04-23 15:01

Wow this game is very polished. The different evolution are great. It's a great twist to the theme where you don't really fight or protect anyone from war but more from starvation. It's simple, you just keep a pet.

The pixel art really matches the characteristics of the morphling. Great game!

dewittsmith 2020-04-23 16:58

I like it a lot. Graphics are simply amazing. Evolution looks awesome too.

lukas-mayer 2020-04-23 21:52

This game really puts you in a special mood, the color palette, the audio, everything is made with this odd, secret scientific base, mood.

It's all shrouded in mystery, and the dialogues only make it better.

I really enjoyed playing this game, and discovering new transformations was really fun.

Great entry.

cheesepencil 2020-04-24 01:44

Endearing visuals and sound design (including music). I had no idea what I was doing but the whole thing was packaged well. Great jam game!

paprigames 2020-04-24 08:29

Definitely my favourite game so far! Beautiful visuals, interesting and fun narrative, and even the gameplay was really of fun, as it was interesting to see how the morphling evolved next! I got the guardian at the first playtrough, but I am tempted to get the others as well. Good job!

kittrangers 2020-04-24 10:19

Really nice game! Found exploration only when I used all food but it was really fun to play, thank you for great submission!

baylej 2020-04-24 22:51

Your pixel art is so beautiful  I wish I was more talented :unamused: I need to practice, but aint got the time :cold_sweat:

thebreakfast 2020-04-25 02:43

This is awesome! Everything from the music and sounds to the design, to the graphics themselves. Seriously a great entry, this has a TON of potential. I loved trying to decipher what my little dude was trying to tell me. I wanted to know more about the ruined world and visit more places or encounter more people. Everything here left me wanting more. That's definitely a good thing. Great work!

sndr 2020-04-25 07:24

This is a very polished short game! I got the guardian on my first run! :smirk:

It was fun to try to figure out what was it that the little morphing needed and wanted. Scavenging was a nice addition, adding an extra layer of depth to the typical pet sim experience. Made it more interesting and unique.

vesper 2020-04-25 09:52

Great work! I felt compelled to collect each and every form, and the gameplay was easy to use while still being engaging.

deathbysnail 2020-04-25 21:11

Juicy, nice job! I love the combination of resource scarcity and tamagotchi, super neat idea.

nathalia-hohl 2020-04-25 21:34

Great work! The art is very good, gameplay is simple but challenging at first. I got all the morphs pretty easily but it escaped once. XD

mbrezu 2020-04-26 08:40

Very well put together game! I couldn't figure out exploration though.

joror 2020-04-26 11:11

Awesome graphics! Set a great mood for the game. Had a bit of a tough time interpreting the signals - most of the time it felt like I was just throwing random things at it  - but it worked! I caught on the the scavenging part for additional resources after a while. Would have loved for the morphling to face certain challenges or tasks for the colony, so I would have a reason to try and go in one direction over the other.

But all in all a lovely little game, nicely done!

jakier 2020-04-26 12:32

Lovely game with great art! I got 7 forms but could understand how to keep the hound from escaping. Not all the icons are easy to figure out. I understand this is intentional but it can get frustrating.

This is really cool and filled with atmosphere. It's good that you added a cutscene skip key but it should have said it somewhere in game and not just in the manual.

Great job!

lythom 2020-04-26 13:44

Hi, here is some feedback,

 **What I liked:** ✱ aesthetics is all good: colors, art style, fonts, sounds, animations, UI. Very balanced and harmonious. ✱ Warm in a cold world could be the game pillar: it works for every aspect of the game and bring a lot of consistency. ✱ Variety of content is pleasing, I unlocked the 10 evolutions and enjoyed the exploration

:muscle: **What imo could be improved:** ✱ The evolution are very expected and once you got down one line it's too easy to guess what's required to get the others. I'd have liked more surprises but on the other hand this "easy" feel of the game also gives it the warm and chill feeling which is very comportable. So more surpises with the same challenge would be perfect haha ^^

:sparkles: **Overall** ✱ I enjoyed the experience! The overall quality you got into this game is very impressive. Well done!

mrleeperry 2020-04-26 16:29

Very strange and interesting, kinda loved it! Took me a little bit to figure out what was going on, but I really loved the whole overall vibe. Great art! Good stuff overall.

larsdu 2020-04-26 17:38

One of the most polished games I've seen by far!

kekkodude 2020-04-26 22:41

My oh my! was this a pleasant experience! I'm not sure but i think i might be the only one who's utterly dumbstruck trying to figure out the symbols from glancing through the comments, i rather went off the stat increase to keep progressing, feeding them meat and fruit seemed like a solid strategy, got me some evolutions, but i cant stay in this game forever haha, i know i will if i dont quit now... I have to get back to it, saving it in my browser for later!

i was surprised by the fact that i had to drag the items onto the morphing, i was expecting to just click and have something happened, so i thought it was bugged at first, but i understood it quickly haha, at that point it was just... mhh, pleasing!

I have to say.... even the loading screen looks slick

krakadushka 2020-04-27 07:47

I think it's bug? Can you help me with this? P.S. on both sites bug.png

fadrikalexander 2020-04-27 07:52

it reminded me of Bob my pet Tamagotchi, RIP Bob he was an awesome fella, 10/10 game

krakadushka 2020-04-27 08:37

I tried running the game in another browser and it worked! Well, the verdict... this is amazing! I liked the theme of evolution, graphics, and music (it's cool that each form of evolution has its own! Well done!) and the gameplay is awesome. It is really interesting to experiment. It took me about 30 minutes - which means that I was really interested in the game. I wish you success!

palvel 2020-04-27 08:46

Just a super game, one of the few that I was really interested in playing! Cool graphics cool music. Thank you very much.

shess 2020-04-27 13:32

@krakadushka Hello! Tbh this is the first time we're encountering this bug. Could you provide a bit more system info? For example, if you're using mac/linux that we didn't quite account for, there could be unexpected issues.

krakadushka 2020-04-27 14:30

@shess I think it has something to do with the browser I use (Yandex browser), because some games it refuses to play at all (writes "Your browser does not support any of the required graphics API for this content"). So it's not a problem with your game, calm down :) (Firefox, Chrome play great)

dankar 2020-04-28 18:30

Wow! This is awesome! Definitely one of my favorites this jam :) Great graphics, sound and theme implementation!

zen 2020-05-03 23:25

This was a super fun, creative and well thought out game! The graphics were awesome and the whole idea of having to evolve a creature was super creative. It took me a while to work out how to direct the evolution however I got the hang of it and got all 10 creatures!!! Awesome game, one of my favourite ones I have played this jam

akitl 2020-05-04 11:05

wow, this is realy good, polished, and functional im realy impresed

paulhocker 2020-05-05 01:39

amazing artwork and the gameplay is top notch. cannot wait to try it again.

01010111 2020-05-05 17:54

Really polished entry! The art was fantastic, and the music really made a cohesive mood. Great work!

randomhuman 2020-05-07 15:15

Wow, real nice game, super polished! The art is gorgeous and I like the way the world building is woven into the gameplay.

terry 2020-05-11 06:14

This is really good! Best tamagotchi-like thing I've played this Ludum Dare
