LD46 — Keep it alive

Efi by ludipe 2020-04-23T19:20:53Z

I really liked this game. Not too hard but challenging and frustrating at times. Very good balance. The music was groovy as hell! Well done to the composer. Only issue i have is the theme. It's sort of a stretch to call it "keep it alive". Great game overall though! Good job.

Morose by 100th_Coin 2020-04-21T17:26:10Z

I liked the game and its mood, though I must say it did not last very long. Neat idea and I enjoyed my time with it. It had some bugs and I had to restart a couple times, but it is expected. Not sure what we're "keeping alive" though. Overall good game.

Picturesque by JLV 2020-04-21T21:45:42Z

Interesting choice of combining the characters art style with the background one. At the beginning I thought it would be like a old times "medieval" story but how the story turned out was so unexpected. "Color me suprised" as the first dialog says. Overall fun little game with a good atmosphere.

A Torch in the Cave by snesgaard 2020-04-21T21:15:21Z

Good game with good fundamentals and really nice graphics! The fire animation is very good. Well done. Can become really fun if you decide to make it bigger.

Vine and Void by JUSTCAMH 2020-04-25T13:12:57Z

*clap clap clap* This game is not a game.. It's an experience. I loved every single thing about it! The atmosphere, the music, the dialog, the graphics, the mechanics. It must have been a nightmare to code this mechanic... You did well, making the game randomly generated. An amazing submission. More than impressive for a game made in 72 hours. Good job!

Frozen Skies by ThorPalsson 2020-04-21T17:38:19Z

Nice atmosphere, a bit slow movement and camera. Sadly I have an ultrawide screen and the UI did not scale well with it, so I could not go too far, since I could not close UI panels :(

Viva La Revolution! by WilhelmStein 2020-04-23T12:08:03Z

@barbiche Thank you for your kind words!

We debated this while creating the game but we thought it would be clearer to show what you will gain instead of what you already gained, mainly to keep the consistency of what the buttons do (Indoctrinating, Letting go and Executing Influencers).

Generally, you could say we had some problems with communicating how you should play and what each UI element meant, and it's great that you're giving some valuable feedback on that. And that goes to everyone that has commented so far!

Viva La Revolution! by WilhelmStein 2020-04-24T18:14:38Z

@nsadie Thanks! The game being keyboard interactible is a good idea and we shall implement it. Moreover, the pause menu being off should be a resolution problem. I will look into it anyhow. Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enojoyed the game.

Chasse Gardée by FrancescoPanini 2020-04-25T12:17:09Z

I must say I had a good laugh playing this game, especially with the apparently useless gobble sound. It was challenging enough and fun. I needed a solid 5-6 runs to beat it. Sound in general was really good. I didn't like the death animations, but I don't expect too much for a 72 hour game. Overall really fun game, well in theme. Good job

Lost Souls by Raineii 2020-04-21T22:02:26Z

What an experience! The art direction of this game is just amazing. From the sprites to the music to the feeling of hearth when you are near a fireplace, to the terrifying look and movement of the shadow blobs. A great atmosphere from start to finish. Loved the way the game explained its mechanics in the main menu. A challenging game for sure, as I did not manage to beat it. Far from it. Only problem I had is the fact, that wood logs are spawning in unreachable places. (Or are they not unreachable?) Overall great game. Well done!

Keep "IT" Alive by RoboDoig 2020-04-21T21:05:49Z

Cool idea, but I couldn't get past the second round. Either my vocabulary is so bad, or the randomness is too much. There were some times that i could not find any word for even the first round! Was there a way to get rid of letters in the current word, that I was not aware about? I really liked the audio. It was very fitting given the pressure and the challenge this game has.

Eclipse - Chip Hunt by ToxicHouse 2020-04-21T21:27:36Z

Pros -> Good base, with an excellent atmosphere, nice graphics and nice-feeling controls. Cons -> Too easy. This game would very much benefit from difficulty, since the particular theme (alone in space) can be so frightening and anxiety inducing. Maybe have less corpses, or maybe you can only use them once for oxygen. Didn't get why the parts you needed to repair your ship gave you oxygen, but that is an unimportant issue. I am just curious :P Overall a fun game. Good job!

The Last Hearth by Jorim 2020-04-24T12:37:21Z

Neat game, a bit boring and slow in my opinion. It would benefit from being faster i think. Theme was great and it had a nice and stressful atmosphere. Did I say I hate spiders?

Viva La Revolution! by Learus 2020-04-24T16:21:31Z

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Devil Lurks in Coin by Raphiell 2021-04-30T12:46:12Z

Really good game! I've always wanted to create a detective style game but I could never wrap my head around clues and how they would connect and such. This game gave me some ideas, so I thank you for that. Graphics are very very good, and the music sets the mood appropriately. Really impressive for a 3 day game. The story is believable and the fact that there are multiple endings is much appreciated. 5/5. Well done!

Boring in the deep by WilhelmStein 2021-04-27T19:46:30Z

@rongefilet Thank you. Do you mean that the music was distracting in a bad way? Would you think it should be toned down a bit? Or was it a pleasant distraction?

The Before Times by UkuleleFury 2021-04-28T19:17:27Z

It's hard to rate this game for sure. I would say it is more an experience than a game. The mood is amazing, graphics and music are top notch. As for the looping mechanism, it's a coding problem i'd like to challenge myself to solve! In any case good job!

6 Feet Under by theStoff 2021-04-28T20:23:22Z

Such an amazing game! Very difficult to be honest. I'll try to finish it tomorrow though, promise! Good job.

Where's my dynoMITE? [LD48] by miej 2021-04-30T12:21:55Z

Dude the sound effects are just amazing, I'm speechless. The gameplay was fine, nothing too spicy. It was fun though don't get me wrong. I'd like to have more levels to play through, just to keep hearing the amazing sfx. There could also be a story around finding your car keys and so on. Good job!

One More Cellar by Magna 2021-04-27T20:07:24Z

Lovely graphics, simple but fun gameplay, and loads of humour. A recipe for greatness. Good job!

Deep Dark by OkayLobster 2021-04-30T12:12:33Z

Amazing submission! The graphics are clean and consistent, and the music is a banger! The game is challenging enough to keep playing and humorous. Well done!

Can You See The Flame by LambMakesGames 2021-04-27T19:41:02Z

At first, it seemed like a really simple game. Classic FirstPersonController, collect 4 things, e.t.c. But then, the **level design**. My goodness this was nice platforming. I wish I could think of such intricate levels. And the fact that you made it so you need to use prior level knowledge to beat a new version of the same level is even more impressive! I think you hit the mark regarding theme and mood, and with an update on graphics/textures this game would be amazing. And then where I least expected it the ending happened. It gave me the chills. Nice!

I have some things I'd like to complain about though. The breathing animation can be a little annoying and makes me think I'm going sideways when I'm actually going straight. Maybe that's part of the game though since you are supposedly going mad or something (it's not a bug it's a feature style). Lastly, the colliders on some ledges are a bit iffy and you can get stuck trying to jump from floating ledge to floating ledge.

This game was a pleasant surprise! Good job.

Deep Breath by Saltysa 2021-04-28T19:57:12Z

This looked like a really interesting game. Sadly though, I wasn't able to play it because the controls were kinda messed up. D was right and then Q was left, S was go deep and Z was jump. I suppose itis a bug, since the first screen shows normal controls. It was really hard to get used to it and i kept dying, so I quit trying :( I will refrain from rating it yet, since it seems really cool. Hope you fix it if it is indeed a bug.

Futile Fire Fighters by Ziamor 2022-04-05T17:52:30Z

What a nice little game! Art is cute, controls are solid, and the game gets hectic really quickly. Which is awesome! It would be interesting to have a bigger map with more firefighters and perhaps powerups and stuff. I think some sound effects and background music would add so much to this game. Overall a great submission!

Thanks, Socrates by WilhelmStein 2022-04-05T13:18:25Z

@ath-ai We are glad you enjoyed the game! There was a small bug when the game ended, when the game prompted you to replay or give up. The bug is now fixed and you will be able to experience the whole tree of stories and events. We urge you to give it a second try!

Thanks, Socrates by WilhelmStein 2022-04-05T18:31:35Z

@subvertissement Understood and fixed. I've uploaded a WebGL version to make it easier for people to play the game. Will upload a Linux build as well. Thanks for the feedback :D

Thanks, Socrates by WilhelmStein 2022-04-05T18:37:42Z

@ivysly Thanks for the feedback!

We were skeptical about that exact thing when writing the dialogue, but ultimately decided on relaxing the accuracy a bit in favour of humour and, well, easiness.

Glad you enjoyed the game overall!

Thanks, Socrates by WilhelmStein 2022-04-05T18:39:55Z

@mr-kitkat My friend, these comments is why I enjoy Ludum Dare so much. I am glad you enjoyed our little game! Have a nice day.

Thanks, Socrates by WilhelmStein 2022-04-05T18:44:22Z

@lisyarus Thanks for the kind words and feedback! Sadly, the game lacks in mechanics in favour of story and humour. Indeed, there are some events that have the same outcome whatever the player chooses, but after that every story branches out in many paths.

Moreover, there is a web version uploaded now as well.

Thanks again!

Thanks, Socrates by WilhelmStein 2022-04-10T17:01:04Z

@hawkin Thanks for your kind words. It really is amazing what a little bit of voice acting and sounds can do to a narrative experience like our game.

As for the event progression implementation, it's as you described it. We used Scriptable Objects called Events that held information such as the character scriptables, conversations, choices, popups, that were then connected with each other to form the event trees. The sounds, sprites and other similar info were held on the character scriptable objects. A simple solution really. Although could become a bit chaotic, without a proper diagram, as the number of events becomes bigger and bigger.

The Arcane Artist by Savolae 2022-04-05T18:06:00Z

Like, who doesn't want to run around weaving spells and killing zombies? Very cool mechanic. I liked how you had to run around to learn spells, but you could do them anyway once you've learned them once. I never learned how to summon the hand, though I had it summoned a couple times by chance. Perhaps, with a bit more time the game could become a full-fledged action game.

Great submission!

Battery Low by Milestone Games 2022-04-05T22:33:07Z

Cool game. Did not expect the game to be about what it was. I had fun trying to optimize the puzzle. I also loved the sfx. "Helloo". "Ouch". It was a pleasant surprise.

Overall great submission.

Highrail to hell by BadPiggy 2022-04-05T17:57:54Z

A very cool idea. I would actually play this game on my spare time, in mobile, or something similar, if there were enough puzzles to solve. The game controls very well, and the puzzles are simple yet can be challenging until you get used to the game. Great submission!

Giraffe o'Clock by Kepsert 2022-04-05T22:13:48Z

Amazing Submission. The controls were flawless, dialogue was hilarious, and music was catchy. Now my question is? How the hell did you come up with that idea?

Well done!

Giraffe o'Clock by Kepsert 2022-04-05T22:34:14Z

@kepsert I'll definitely stay tuned for more!

Fire Punch by Stefan Funke 2022-04-05T22:23:11Z

Nice game! Graphics really set the mood and the controls feel nice. The enemies are really hard with only melee attacks and only minimal health with no regen or checkpoints. I didn't reach the end. Perhaps a dodge could be added to mitigate the difficulty.

Another thing I want to comment on is the sfx. I think the may have been a bit too loud, although I definitely appreciate the effort of adding them in.

Overall a good submission!
