LD46 — Keep it alive

Another f****ng escort mission by dodormeur 2020-04-21T17:30:47Z

Your game is really cool ! Very funny. I really like the mood you chose, all the tiny references and jokes. I'm impressed by the quality AND quantity of content you integrated in such a short time. Music and sound design work really well with the tone too !

Gameplay is very straight forward but not less effective, and the close combat system is a smart way to implement more possibilities in a 2 days home made game =)

It is quite tense to keep monsters away, but knowing that we're gonna get insulted if we don't manage to do it is much more motivating that i would have expected haha (I guess it would not be so fun if the game was taking it more seriously ^^).

I didn't manage to end the game yet (if there is an end) but knowing that we killed that impudent prince when we lose is kinda relaxing even if we've lost (is that a socially acceptable feeling ?... Wait, not sure I wish to hear the answer x) )

I'm curious to know : What technologies did you use to develop it ?

Save The Pink Skins! by gajop 2020-04-22T08:58:24Z

It feels like a good old arcade game. It is fun to fly around and shoot at all incoming asteroids.

Also having asteroids burning and slowly desintegrating to dust when they are too small is a cool idea, as well as the need to let some pass through. Combined with the different damages amount depending on the asteroid's size, it works pretty well.

The ship may be a bit too hard to control though, so that I didn't really have to let asteroids pass through as I missed some anyways when there were too much of them (but I may just be bad at good old arcade games haha). And I validate the idea seen in other comments to have your vessel slowly orbiting around the planet if you're close enough and not moving.

Old style graphics are nice, simple and effective. The planet is really nice with its rotation and the one of its atmosphere not having the same speed.

A Bolder Wizard by parahunter 2020-04-21T11:51:49Z

As you explain this feels a bit like a test turned into a game but it is still fun to play and quite impressive to see all these physicalized meeples flying around. I guess it gives you lots of perspectives for other projects !

Last Days of the Empire by Arqcenick 2020-04-21T14:25:42Z

This is a cool strategy game idea, it feels a bit like a variant of a chess game and was pleasant to play. It misses some feedbacks though (mostly units upkeep/recruitment costs). Also I don't know if I missed something but I didn't succeed to capture cities.

Chasse Gardée by FrancescoPanini 2020-04-21T16:35:54Z

@dodormeur Thanks for your nice review ! Yeah we always struggle with resolution and unity WebGL builds. We tried to build with a Full HD resolution (1920x1080) but although it was perfect on fullscreen, it did not scale down in the browser's tiny window. We thought that most of players wouldn't activate fullscreen so we kept a small resolution for now.

I also thought about the "q" key between two rushes, but then I came back to other stuff and forgot about it. We may make a quick rebuild to add it =)

About the music, we opted out of this category because we didn't make it ourselves (we wanted to but we lacked the time and knowledge to do it). It is called Pixie Soldier and has been made by FX DUPAS. You can find it [here](https://www.harriswolff.com/fr/piste/665).

All turkey noises are homemade though !

Poutou du Poitou !

Chasse Gardée by FrancescoPanini 2020-04-24T07:49:40Z

@honey Thank you for your feedback ! Yeah I see what's going on with the colliders. The reason why it does that is because the bullet was so fast that its tiny collider would sometimes pass over colliders (especially cyclists and turkey ones, which are not that big). To solve this we reduced its speed but that wasn't enough so we also extended its collider behind it. It works really well that way, except that very moment where the gun passes just through the turkey. We could definitely do some enhancements there.

That is a smart reflexion concerning the extra time at the last moment, like a very short animation for the ennemy to grab/kill the turkey before it actually does it would be really cool I agree, and would also be another parameter to help balance the game, which would be nice.

I'm glad you enjoyed it !

@honey Oh that's smart, I wouldn't have thought of using raycasting that way. I'll keep that solution in mind.

Pollinate by Adam Konig 2020-04-23T21:53:58Z

It's a very relaxing game and it's really enjoyable to mix flowers to discover new colors. Controls and camera are nicely handled with the camera replacing itself higher when you water flowers. Plus I've always appreciated the ability to fly in games, especially games with that kind of mood.

Graphics are a bit too shiny to me but really nice. Sound design accompanies the mechanics quite perfectly and the overall feels very polished and complete. The only problem i had is a performance issue when there are too many flowers on screen (despite having a heavy config). Maybe it's only in the browser version, I didn't test it on downloadable versions. Anyway this wasn't a game breaking problem.

Although the theme doesn't really appear in the mechanic of the game, the way you use it to deliver a message is moving.

Very nice jam production =)

Toymageddon by Mr.Swanson 2020-04-21T21:11:24Z

This is fun (I like dog fight games) even though controls are quite tough. Having the possibility to play several types of players (here vessels and weapons) always impress me for such a short development time. Furthermore I like your beatboxing sound design. That is something we would have liked to do but we lacked the time.

Sheep it alive! by SheetCode 2020-04-22T10:34:50Z

This game is really cute !

Music is cool. Gameplay is pretty fun and it is more challenging and tense than it seems. The way you handled difficulty levels is original and very interesting. Not only does it increase difficulty but it also adds possibilities as you can kinda make sheeps work together to survive.

That is a really nice jam game!

ALPHA PAPA ECHO by jamesterjim 2020-04-22T21:17:51Z

The game looks really nice and is a nicely done dog fight game. Controls are quite hard to master though. Having the plane rotation controlled by the mouse would have been easier to play I think, although it is mitigated by the huge hit box of enemies.

Design is really nice, graphics and sound fits well together. plane's trail really helps spotting enemies at long range but it is very hard to aim that far.
