The graphics look good. I liked the exploring aspect of the game. I also liked the jump section where you had to jump over the bridge.

A few things you could improve on.

When falling down the bridge into the water it is quite frustrating having to start from the beginning. Maybe reset me to the start of the bridge and let me try again.

At the end of the small dungeon I'd like a bigger reward than just one coin. Maybe a heart to refill my health or just a bigger bunch of coins. Just to make it worth it. Also a nice pling sound when collecting a coin would be nice!

The fighting felt a bit boring. Also the enemies were so small. I feel they should go down in 1-2 punches. (in my opinion :D) Maybe concentrate on one enemy and make it as fun as possible to fight against.

All in all I really enjoyed playing. Good job! Keep it up!

The concept is cool! The jump feels very nice. Sometimes it doesn't work properly though. Sometimes the jump doesn't go off. Probably because I didn't have line of sight to the cursor. The game should probably be a bit leniant in that regard and do a best possible jump in that direction anyway. And sometimes I want to jump and just fall down. This happens often when I'm close to the edge of a platform.

The game was quite fun. Interesting concept.

The first level felt a bit repetitive. The second level though felt quite challenging. I liked that. I just wished that I didn't have to restart from the very beginning. :D

Also encountered the bug where I was stuck inside the deadly sin. And when you are quite high up and walk over the edge you are stuck on a black screen.

Solid implementation of your game. Everything works and the game looks nice! :)

Maybe you can add some exciting features next, that make the game a bit more challenging. I'm thinking of portals as shortcuts between the rooms, teleportation skill, maybe some obstacles to jump over, a cat that tries to push you over (just throwing out some ideas :D)

Two small things regarding the graphics. I think you should remove the vertical lines of the floor tiles in the corridor. They are a bit distracting, because they look like walls. Please don't just scale up pixel art. You should try to keep it at the same resolution throughout the game. That's why the game over screen doesn't look so good. Otherwise really good job.

Got to wave 7 by barricading me next to the stairs. But then too many flying bots appeared.

After a few tries and a good starting position with enough of all 3 resources, especially brown color (food) it worked out quite well. My strategy was building mostly food at the beginning. After a while I had so many resources that I just kept building shelters. Shelters are a bit overpowered in my opinion because they clear out all zombies within their range. I cleared half the map by just building shelters. :D Barracks seemed a bit useless and I stopped building them, sorry :(

But nontheless I enjoyed the game a lot. Good job!

It's a bit strange that you could save a house by spraying water on it. At first I didn't realize that was the goal and I just tries to put out the fire. :D Aiming is quite hard. Maybe the hitbox of the houses should be a bit bigger.

The attack didn't work for me. The animation was just flashing for one frame and disappeared again immediatly.

The pixel graphics looked very good! Just try to keep alle the pixels to the same resolution. Then it will look even better. You had some problems with the y-sorting of the objects (player in front of the large stones). Also the collision was off sometimes, where I could walk inside a wall.

Very promising game. Good job and keep it up! :)

Very nice graphics. Mushroom is very cute. First Part: Many rhythm games use a grid system where you can jump with each beat. Maybe something like that would help. Because at the moment I'm often getting hit by the knives although I thought I was safe and the movement didn't feel very rhythmic. Also I mostly stayed at the same position. There was no reason for me to move much.

That was really fun. Made it to the third fight, but could not beat it yet. In the third fight I was hit by something, but couldn't tell what exactly it was. That was strange.

I enjoyed the game a lot! Very nice. Though it took me a while to figure out a strategy that worked.

Maybe some tooltips with damage/s would help. Also traps with different functions like slow or freeze would be nice. Cooldowns were too high and a little frustrating.

The pixel art was very nice. Very cute too! Just one thing. Please consider keeping the pixel size to one resolution (all squares have the same size and no rectangles). The art will look much cleaner.

I love turn based strategy games. So glad I found this game. The pixel art is very cool too!

I played very aggresively on the second run. I wanted to see, if I can stop the mages from taking over more houses. Didn't work sadly. They got a second one. From that point on my team didn't do enough damage to stop them. :( But at least I could save everyone!

It was nice, that I could "win" the game, although being overrun in the end. It felt rewarding getting everyone out. Many other games I played didn't do that.

It's just really difficult to balance games. I didn't expect people to get stuck at this point so early in the level. But now that I know, I can put more consideration into balancing the next time! :) I'm doing a no-dev-weekend, but I will consider your suggestion of doing a small balancing patch next week (maybe, when I find the time). :)

Small strategy hint, that might or might not help: I will usually only do a small step back, so I won't get hit by the bump attack. Fireballs will then still land behind me and I won't get hit. That should work most of the time.

Haha, I know I'm blaming a lot on the time limit! :D But you should be happy, because I wanted to do a really hard endboss when I first planned the game. Instead I wanted to give the player a small reward at the end of the level. But I think the orb rather confused players. :(

I'm definitely learning a lot from the feedback. So I'm very thankful.

One thing: The controls should be way more forgiving. Especially when I have to do things under time pressure. Sometimes I was clicking on stuff and nothing happened, but I was right next to it. Also sometimes I was picking up the wrong dirt (not the one I clicked on).

Cool little game! I liked the feeling of the gun and shooting the enemies.

A few small things:

1) Enemies should not shoot before the player can see them. There is no warning at all and the shots come pretty fast.

2) Enemies always spawn at the same location (maybe this is a bug?)

3) The collision boxes are strange. I should be able to walk right to the edge of the lava.

4) Click to shoot is a bit cumbersome. Why not just hold the mouse button to shoot? My fingers will thank you :D

Btw what is the connection to the theme? Good job with the game!

Loved the little detail, that you could fly trough the hoops and they're not just a background element.

I think the hitbox of the owl was maybe a bit big. Also it was unclear how large the collider was. That made the navigation a bit hard, especially when there were lots of bullets and almost no space to go. But that's just a small nitpick. Otherwise great game!

Bullet patterns were great! Different patterns, sizes, speeds. That was awesome!

I played a couple times to test out all the weapons :laughing: But never made it to a score higher than 5, it's getting pretty insane then :laughing:

A few suggestions: Maybe pause the spawns, when you are at the tower, where you have to deliver the wand. This would allow a short break, to catch the breath a bit and relax.

I would remove the friendly fire from the saw-thingies. It makes me not want to pick it. It's not strong enough for the downside. :)

Two small nitpicks:

1) I tried to drag the letters on the portraits and was confused, that it didn't work. It's a bit complicated (and I didn't get it immediatly) to first click on the portrait and then drag the letter into the letter-box.

2) Sending the answers back didn't make much sense to me, because the letter was also brought to me by the pidgeon. I think it should be the other way round. For example the King should throw over the letter and I will put it into the letter basket. Then the pidgeon brings it away. :laughing:

It was very hard in the late game though. Suddenly there was no food anywhere to be found. So I couldn't restock my supplies. There should probably always be food somewhere to buy. Also supply and demand did not match anymore in the end. In my opinion if I can buy something, I should also be able to sell it somewhere.

With some items I'm not sure if they're worth it or how they work: For example the carpenter sounds nice, but I'm not sure how he works (if I need to buy the planks and where to get them) Also cannonballs. Sure, they make my cannon stronger, but take away cargo space that I need for trading.

I once had a black screen after losing and nothing happened.

Will try again later to beat this!

I think the steering was a bit too hard and unintuitive.

In the magic-wand level there was a strange collider in the middle of the road at the top that didn't let me through. In general the colliders were a bit too punishing, especially the roof tops. I think you shouldn't collide with roofs. :) ariadnes.JPG

If you really want to keep this mechanic, then I would suggest adding refuel stations to every planet, where I can refuel after every delivery. :laughing:

@bmanstudio I tried to pick them up whenever possible. But often they just flew by at a distance. Also I need fuel to navigate to the pickups. I had the feeling, that I didn't win much by chasing them. Maybe it works better with a bit more flying practice, I think I was pretty wasteful. :D

I didn't realize that there were different kinds, maybe that was part of my problem.

What I wanted to say in general: The game would also work great without the fuel system. Just flying around, looking at the planets and chill, would be fun enough (without pressure to collect fuel).

But like I said, that's just my preference. :)

I'm really impressed by the game, so just nitpicking here!

Edit: Worked a little better now with your help, got to 11 deliveries. But also flew twice into the red zone :laughing:

Some small nitpicks: - I wish I could rotate the player without having to rotate the whole tile. It happened quite often, that a sword or enemy was just behind me (paths were connected), but I was looking in the wrong direction. - In my opinion just keep the zoomed out version and keep the buttons advance, shift, rotate on the same screen. No need to switch back and forth all the time. :)

Playing alone was not so much fun, so it feels a bit unfair to me, rating it on that experience. Because I think it would be lots of fun in a small group. One guy throwing all the stuff over, the next one packaging etc. :laughing:

I also had the same bug, that angiemon had (with the green arrows everywhere). Maybe I still was playing the version before the bug fixes.

A few minor nitpicks: - In the second half of the game (After I had around 400.000 score) no more pirates or navy would appear. Nessie was just chilling in the middle of the map. I just had to plot my course around her. - Reading the legend on the right was a bit annoying. Maybe remove it completely and add the "source"-island to the requests. Something like: island A -> treasure map -> island B - The island shapes could be a bit more distinct, to recognize them with one glance. (Halfmoon- and Bridge-island were good examples :thumbsup: )

All in all a very good game. Nice graphics. Fitting music! Good job! :)

Yeah, it's hard, getting the difficulty right. If it's too easy, everyone just rushes through the fight. On the other hand some people like a challenge. I had planned to add 2 difficulty settings. But it was pretty far down the list (just above adding music), so I had no time for that. But this would probably have been the 'easy' variant and I would've scaled up the difficulty a lot for the 'hard' mode. :laughing:

@all About getting damaged, when touching the boss. I hear you and agree to a certain point. The problem is, that without it, the boss would be too easy. Just roll behind it, where projectiles and fists can't reach you and spam attack. This was the quick solution. (just an explanation, why it is like that. No excuse :laughing:)

Something to consider next time! I think the Ctrl key should work too, because I'm using Unities default "Fire1" for attack.

You're probably right about the audio. I just don't have much experience with sound design yet. Maybe this will become a bigger focus next time! :smile:

The delay when stopping is definitely a bug and not intended. Strangely it doesn't happen on my controller, only on the keyboard.

I was able to fix this problem and uploaded a patch just now. Please let me know, if it works better now.

For those interested: The problem was, that I was using Input.GetAxis(...) instead of Input.GetAxisRaw(...)

I didn't really like the gameplay loop though, sorry, maybe that's just my taste. It was too much to do under time pressure. Also the controls weren't smooth enough to allow a fast handling of the letters.

Gameplay has some problems though and is too punishing in the beginning. Two examples:

1) It's not obvious that I have a double jump. I only learned that after falling down twice at the first gap. Maybe let the player learn the controls in a safe environment (don't let the rock fall down. Instead just put a high cliff there, where you only get up with the double jump).

2) Same thing at the wall-jump section. Why place a gap in the floor where players can fall down? Let them learn the controls first. Wall-jumping didn't work very well, so of course I fell down there! :laughing:

Some other inconveniences: - Tutorial text is not very well readable (yellow color above bright floor, orange color above orange colored tree) - I got always stuck on the stairs. - Maybe make the soul follow you automatically, without having to interact everytime. - Remove the mouse clicking. It's not a very interesting game mechanic

Sorry, I hope this didn't sound too harsh. I'm really impressed you made a so good looking game. Just polish the gameplay a bit and it will be awesome! :)

@aviv-levy Good question. Getting the controls right is not so easy. I got some complaints about that on my game too.

Maybe WASD for movement, Space for dash, left mouse for attack, right mouse for block could work. E or Q for Commune with the dead, because they are easy to reach, when playing with WASD.

Controller would work very well for your game too.

And like you said, letting the player switch key bindings would be the best. But not so easy to do in a game jam. :)

Edit: One of the comments on my game mentioned playing on a laptop with trackpad only, and without a real mouse. So this is something to maybe consider too.

Good game! Congratz for completing your first game jam! I liked the pixel art and the nice ambient sound. I also liked the idea a lot. :) It played quite well all in all. Good job with the game!

I made a few notes about things you can improve.

Gameplay: Searching for people was a bit too tedious. I didn't find the person for the red package and gave up in the end. :sweat_smile: Maybe put mailboxes with the respective colors on the road side. So I can grab to correct package and go looking for the person nearby.

Art: Try to keep your pixel sizes consistent (all pixels have the same size) and also try to adhere to the pixel grid. This is not always easy especially for moving sprites. But sprites that are not moving (background, npcs, trees) should respect the pixel grid. This will make your game look much better :)

Bugs: - Menus get stuck, when I press E first, then Q while the first menu is still open. - the truck sound plays when pressing Q, even when I'm not close to the truck - Colliders are a bit weird sometimes.

The atmosphere and vibes of the game are really great. I also like the minimalist pixel style a lot!

There probably should be more options, other then walk, to spice up the gameplay a bit. Mountains or something would be nice, to lure the enemies around them. That would allow changing the direction. At the moment I can't reach the red city, if it is behind the enemies (at least not on hard mode).

Maybe place some pickups randomly in the desert: - water-bottle -> more movement speed for x turns - bow and arrow -> can snipe one enemy in range - trap -> enemies that walk on it get slowed for x turns

Just a few random ideas :laughing:

1) Enemy hp is much too high / upgrades don't scale my damage enough to keep up

2) The circling daggers upgrade didn't seem to do anything for me. Not sure.

3) The mini pentagons take too long to fill up. It's almost impossible to do.

I beat the boss in ~12 minutes :D

Don't know how others in the leaderboard did it in such a short time :D

1) I was very overwhelmed by the many things to do. Maybe start the game with a few things only, for example only 1 kind of seed, 1 spell. The rest can come later, once I learned to play the game a little.

2) I don't see any "play again" button, when I'm game over. That would be nice. :) Though imho, I wouldn't put a game over state in such a chill game anyway. It really stressed me and I didn't get much done in the short time. :)

1) The enemies aren't strong enough (not enough damage) and their attack seems to get stuck sometimes. I'm never in any danger, once I placed a ghost in every column, because they just tank everything.

3) Not sure what the difference between the cat and the ghost are. Just doing different damage?

4) A bit more variety in the attackers and the defenders would be nice. I guess, just not enough time :)

1) I didn't like the team building mechanic. Swapping was too random to really have an influence on the groups. I wished I could build the groups myself and decide who is going with who. (And also in which dungeon, because sometimes I'd want to send them to a lower level floor just to practice / level up)

2) I think the heroes got dumber, the higher level they got. I had multiple S-Tier heroes trying to 1v1 the endboss and die. That was a bit frustrating.

Here are my first impressions, after playing for a bit. Hope they're helpful.

1) The movement feels like standing on ice. The player shouldn't slide at all, in my opinion. Only move, when the player presses a button. That would make evading the enemies less frustrating.

2) It's possible to move outside the camera view, when moving too far to the bottom.

3) The summons don't really do much at the moment. For example I just summoned the first one and let it fight, while I was just moving around until the portal opened.

The upgrades were fun, especially the multiple hats :D Good job with the game! Keep it up :)

1) It takes much too long to get resources. I wanted to experiment further, but most of the time I was just waiting, which wasn't too much fun.

2) The sacrifice button was a bit too well hidden. I didn't see it for a long time. Maybe I'm blind. Would make it much more visible :) Also maybe it's bug, but the sacrifice button stopped working and I can't click it anymore.

Very cool first game!

Here are my first impressions, hope they are helpful.

1) You should let the player read the instructions on the floor in peace. Not spawning enemies immediatly :)

2) Make colliders more fair for the player, to not frustrate them. For example it should be possible to walk behind the lanterns. Also don't let the player get stuck in corners.

3) Maybe add a summon, that is always possible (maybe a weak monster with cooldown). I was confused at first, because left click didn't summon anything. Until I understood, that I had to collect resources first!

4) I think the summons need a bit more fine tuning. They seem pretty weak and often have problems attacking the enemies properly (going after the wrong target, just hitting the air, running away). It seemed to me, that it was more efficient to just run away from the enemies instead of fighting them. ;)

I think this game could be really fun, if you fine tune it a bit more. Good job so far! Keep it up. Also I really liked the graphics and animations.

I liked the game! Was fun! I liked the music and the graphics.

There are a few bugs with the water fountains. I think some others also mentioned some already. I tried to describe how to reproduce them. Hope that helps a little :)

1) It is possible to fill all drops immediatly by filling the first drop normally, then keep holding the mouse down and just move the mouse back and forth quickly.

2) when trying to fill the second drop normally, a villager can pick up the first drop, which interrupts the filling of the second drop.

3) I have to move the mouse away from the fountain and then back on it, before I can fill the second drop.
