The animation effect and combat effect is very cool, although the movement operation is a bit strange, but after playing a little bit also slowly can get used to, excellent work!

Incredible visual effects, hard to believe it's a jam game. But sometimes my camera will choke for some reason.
@moonblast hey! Thank you! Why you found it strange?
@yizao thanks, we also couldn't believe we made it! Camera shakes... Oh it's some explosions going around from other carriers, don't worry much, they are not very smart employees and don't look what's under their wheels <3
@yogurtthehorse Because the actual operation of the direction of motion is to the car, not the world coordinates. For example, if I press "W", I want the car to move upward, but the car just moves in its own direction. I have rarely played games involving this type of operation, so a little unfamiliar, but play a little to master
Cool graphics and style. Brought some nostalgia. The audio fitted the action though I found it quite difficult to drive and shoot!
Aaaah here's a game where you can go fast!
I got some camera chokes too. And I wished my gun would keep firing by holding the button pressed, instead of spamming it. I also had trouble finding the packages and where to go.
Fun game! I find the explosion animations and game icon very especially beautiful!
@moonblast to be fair, it is a pretty standard way of controlling your character, called "tank controls" with long history and a lot of games use it. But I understand that it can be a bit challenging to master if you happened to not play a lot of games with such controls :)
@drestin good you liked it! For those who lost we have Map on Tab and for those who want better gun we have shop in each city ;)
Amazing entry! You certainly know how to do some great artwork - the styling and vibe is incredible. The car controls feel great too! The gun play is really difficult, but I started to get the hang of it after a while - so maybe that's by design? This is the sort of game that I used to play all the time and loved as a kid, super solid game jam entry - would love to see more games!
PS I also get the camera chokes :D
@quanta-studios thank you for so much kind words <3 Well.. It's a post-apocalyptic desert, nobody said it would be easy!
WOW! Stunning graphics, lovely physics, such wonderful details (dynamically destructible car???) This is insanely good!
Well that is a very impressive game! Super nice map with some variation and a lot of unique details, different zones that really feel different (like "oh no I have to go to the mine fields again"), nice animations (explosions!) and a cool musical theme.
This is awesome congrats! The car and trailer movement is so satisfying I could just drive around for ages. The explosions have old school raiden vibes - love it
This game was very impressive! The graphics were awesome, and the music really helped to cement the atmosphere. I really liked the car designs as well
It is not enough that in the game the attack does not stop when you click on the mouse
Amazingly great game ! I love it ! Congrats ! A good health bar would be a perfect hit for me !
I love mad max mood. Really impressive visuals. Good job!
Really fun gameplay. Really good graphics/effects. What a satisfying game. Good job!
The gameplay is smooth and enjoyable! Keep it up!
Great visuals, cool music, and I found the gameplay engaging, it would have been nice if I could shoot through my own trailer, as it makes it really difficult to defend yourself and / or not kill yourself, especially with the shotgun.
Wow, really nice game. Only the missing hit feedback could be added. But otherwise it was a lot of fun to play.
@waptaincaffles thanks for the feedback! The idea was to drop your trailer while in combat and pick it up later, but we should've hinted somehow...
@kiberptah that makes sense haha! I didn't think to do that 😅
One of the best games I've played so far! Punchy music, juicy drifting, great visuals and controls. So stylistically complete. The grass was hurting my eyes a bit, looks like you've got some z fighting causing flickering.
@forager thank you :) Yeah some assets and locations were rushed, we could've messed up a bit. Overscope is a hell of a drug
Beautiful entry, really polish and flawless ! Had a good time :D
Wow, congrats! The driving feels great, and all the vfx are on point. I couldn't figure out where my cargo was or how to collect teeth though.
Nice game! It's great that the map is really huge, and the assets are very pretty, but I didnt manage to find even one thing that I would be able to connect to ☹ Also, I never shoot exactly at the aim, but somewhere close 🤔
This is so frickin' good! So much juice. Love the game feel, sounds and art. YES!
I would say I want a target icon for the cursor and some feedback when I shoot the enemy vehicles (sparks or smoke or something).
Amazing job
really cool, reminds me of mad max
Hey guys!
Any submissions from you are pretty fun to play and this one isn't an exception! I got a feeling like I'm young again and playing GTA II with my friends in computer class :smile:
The art style as well is pretty well polished, especially like for explosions, which are pretty big part of the game.
That's a really funny game to play, great job!
It took me forever to figure out that I can take delivery jobs in the checkpoints, somehow I only saw the weapons, maybe confusing that you do both with the same button, some redesign would be necessary here. Otherwise fantastic game, although a bit hard in some places.
Very atmospheric game - delivering cargo is a tough job. Too many violent riders are lurking through this desert! Great music! Got some audio glitches though (html version).
I'm amazed at just how _much_ is in this entry. Seriously, this doesn't feel like it could be done in a weekend. Huge kudos to this team. You're all incredible. The game feel, mechanics, UI, art, sfx, music... Everything is just absolutely wonderful. AWESOME. :tada:
The feel and looks of your entry are quite amazing ! Congrats on making it this far in the LDs timeframe !
Also, it's funny how we both had almost the same idea for our games :-)
Congratulations on making it to the LD53 !
Very beautiful graphics
Crisp Pixel art, top notch controls, game is a bit hard tho, I like
@thunderchief thank you! Well.. balancing open world game made in 3 days is a bit hard, sorry for that :(
@sid37 thank you <3
@fluffy-kaeloky thank you! Yeah getting THAT far this time was very hard (especially for me as a solo programmer and "put this stuff in Unity" guy on the team), but I think it was totally worth. Just looked at your Jam. Definitely would give it a try tomorrow when wake up. Looks stunnic! We also wanted to add a hook to the game, especially as we had one in previous jam and have some experience, but you know.. Time isn't endless in the Jams :D
@bloodyaugust but we did! Thank you <3 Somehow we did, still can't believe in that. Also, we have a footage of me building level in the last few hours: https://youtu.be/faRdhmmuzYM
@advarsky thank you. About amount of aggressive drivers.. Piece was never an option they say, huh?
@jomoho ah yeah, sweet post jam redesign and steam release with proper balance and stuff around... Maybe someday, who knows! Thank you for playing, anyway, hope you still liked it!
@erlioniel thank you! Great to hear that from you as I'm a bit of a fanboy of yours, hehe!
@fidrik thank you!
@sherwin-claridge thank you! We even have this icon, it's a bug it doesn't show up. I hope to fix this after getting a proper sleep :<
@nicole-a just @rjdrag thank you! About getting cargo: stay in the white circle, it would show you a menu. Had no time to make it more obvious, unfortunately, though I'm hoping other stuff we made kinda compensates it. At least a bit :(
@arthur-sorignet-gautrot great to hear our games makes someone fun, thank you!
@darwyn thank you! If only we had time... Our sound designer lost his PC in the middle of the Jam and had to fully reinstall his Windows, so we missing some of the SFX (yes, we could make more!)
@space-games thank you. Let's see how well we would keep it up next Jam (feel free to follow me and other devs of the entry ;) )
@attala thanks! Really satisfying comment <3
@kongo thank you!
@vidu thanks! Well.. who needs a healthcare if you lose some doors and bumper, yeah? (Well most people, actually, we hadn't time for that :( )
@peterfiftyfour @no-grapes-games thank you, guys!
OOOH. I answered everyone (at least, I hope so). Thank you all for playing guys, this means a lot!
The overall atmosphere is brutally good. Especially when we consider that it was created in such a short time. Maybe just a minor idea is to allow the player to see a little more ahead when driving. But as I say it's just a small idea. Overall the game was enjoyable. I'd love to see what else you can add to the postjam if you decide to continue it ;)
Wow, this is so much fun! Reminds me a bit of Vangers game. I wish there would be some health indicator, but in the current state the game looks really solid. I hope you'll do some post-jam updates, because I want more xD.
P.S. It is weird that you can shoot your own delivery package.
@the1 thank you! We have so much of minor idea but like.. time :D
@smeljey yeah, Vangers were mentioned on the prototyping phase :D thank you <3
@smeljey @the1 don't think we would make many postjam updates besides fixes as half of our team now working on previous jam entry rework to release to steam. If you are interested you may follow us here, we would certainly post something about that here
This is rather fun to play, good job. I'm not a fan of the overall art style, but dayum those explosions look nice.
Woah, great submission. Reminds me of ex-machina game. Really like the visuals and music, atmosphere is neat. I want more of that.
really good game
had some lag in the browser build, but it was probably just because browsers suck
loved the music coming in whenever an enemy was nearby
This game definitely chugs after a handful of minutes and I almost got stuck in a death loop of things spawning too fast and I kept having to respawn and shoot a few at a time.
That said, it looks and feels fantastic. Stunning jam entry.
@ruruie thank you for playing! I assume you tried web version? We still sort of trying to tame that beast :)
Driving the car and drifting was very smooth although there was some things I didn't like about the battles: 1. I wish I could hold the shoot button, instead of spamming it 2. Aiming ahead of the enemy felt off though maybe Im just not used to it 3. The fact that the cart behind you blocks the bullets
Otherwise sick game, that's a lot to be done in 72 hours.
Very nice game I liked it a lot. I wanted to finish my delivery, got attacked at the bridge, died, went there again, the enemies multiplied, died again, upgraded my weapons, died again and in the end never delivered the cargo, but it was constantly fun. Only thing I noticed or would have changed was the camera "swing" when driving with full speed the camera should preferably center the car again until the speed decreases again but that's just my two cents 🙂
Cool little game. Driving is fun and intuitive. Shooting feels great as well though some more feedback from shooting enemies would be great. The map feels kinda useless at times, though once you learn the layout better, there shouldn't be any problem tbh. It looks really great in terms of graphics. Love the audio as well, especially the metal music. A good entry overall
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my stream! If you’d like to rewatch the playthrough, you can find it here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1810468382?t=2h12m3s Good luck on your ratings, see you next LD! :D 💜 Elysia Griffin AKA Button Feedback Lady https://www.twitch.tv/elysiagriffin
@grizeldi thank you!
@amolker thank you! Yeah, it was in our references, hehe :) We aren't planning post jam updates besides bug fixes, though we would definitely continue jamming, so follow us for future games!
@badcop thank you for streaming, that was very nice! Sorry for sound glitches, native builds are fine, yes :(
@ruruie thanks for playing. I hope this experience didn't brake all the fun :(
@maximbegunov thank you for such constructive feedback. Seems like aiming was broken a bit and we fixed some issues with it a while ago. Also you can dismount cargo and freely enjoy your death fight before getting back to work
@momo-hunter thx <3 Interesting idea for camera, sounds very cool, maybe we will use it another jam :)
@badpiggy thank you!
@elysiagriffin thank you for playing and streaming and good luck to you, too <3
The art style and the setting rocks. I would love to see this game being developed into something bigger.
@chrissx2 hey, thank you! I've just wrote a small post about that :)
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/wasteland-express-1/some-wasteland-express-promo
Great work! The art + music works so well together. I wish it was a bit clearer where the front of the car is, especially when your gun is facing backwards
Killer driving feel and animation - audio doesn't work and the controls are a bit hard to work with. Overall fun to play. I kind of wish I could just zip around the desert doing stunts and stuff!
@emmelinee thx <3
@krummja audio doesn't work even in native version? :( SFX in our game feels so good, so I strongly recommend you to try native downloads, if issue was in Web version
That was pretty fun - destroyed enemies, destroyed my precious cargo over and over, and enjoyed great visuals with dynamic gameplay
I enjoyed it, very nice visuals and I like how you work with the music volume when enemies approach. The camera movement was nice and I also think that the controls fit the game well. The fights were entertaining. On the other hand the progression was very easy. I didn't notice my health anywhere or some indication of the damage I have already taken, maybe that would be nice to see.
This game feels freaking great to play, the movement feels so nice! I love the concept, having to deliver something through a wasteland where anything can happen.
The only things I'd critique would be maybe having to click the mouse button to shoot instead of being able to hold it to keep shooting, and maybe I'd experiment with having the camera follow the car, since I got lost with the direction I had to move in when it was upside down.
But honestly those are all nitpicks, the game was great, definitely one of the best feeling games i've played this jam! Great job!
It's really cool, I love the concept idea, and the universe remind me of mad max fury road! Great!
Driving felt great. Graphics are awesome!
A few nitpicks I had:
I didn't like, that I had to click to shoot. Just let me hold down the button.
The delivery didn't work sometimes. Maybe the white circle is a little too small?
I also didn't like that my gun, that I worked so hard for, was taken away again. Just because I exploded! Didn't even have much time to test it out properly! :laughing:
Great job with the game!
I came across your game by chance, it appealed to me because it is very similar to the one we made for the jam too. I really like your art style, the design of the map is much more advanced and beautiful. Well done to you! It's annoying not to be able to shoot through the trailer though.
One thing I also noticed that greatly improves your game is the car debris and bullet casings on the map, nice work on that. Also, how did you make the curved roads? Is it an image, a tilemap or some other technique?
@martinboue all floors, walls and roads in our game made with this https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.2d.spriteshape@10.0/manual/index.html
Awesome graphics, controlls and map design. I also appreciate the small tutorial on how to pick up a delivery. Reminded me of a game concept I had in mind for a previous jam, but didn't realise in the end. I also liked the soundtrack though it felt a little repetitive.
My major critique would be that the game felt quite punishing while playing up to a point where it was really frustrating. Even when I tried to use alternate routes to the delivery points I always ran into multiple enemies, not talking about the ones that just spawned at the delivery points and make me lose the freight just in front of the finish. I also couldn't find a way to chase them away so I ended in being blown up most of the time. The most frustrating part was loosing a weapon after death. Props though for the possibility to re-pick up non demolished freight and continue the delivery.
@amunonra thank you for playing!
Well, not all other cars are enemies. A lot of cars just passing by and won't touch if you don't touch them. Especially those who spawn at the city points, so maybe you just needed to be a bit more peaceful :)
Unfortunately, we didn't have time for restoring your weapon after death (it's a Jam after all), but when you purchased some weapon once, you can take it for free – in the menu button changes text from "Buy" to "Take" to make it a bit more obvious (though it still very frustrating, I understand)
@yogurtthehorse thank you for the clarifications. I replayed the game and it definitely changed the experience. Though the other cars that are not enemies are quite trigger happy :D The weapon problem solved itself obviously. Having the auto-weapon unlocked and going for a rampage felt great :)
@amunonra sorry for bad first experience. As i said we really ran out of time… but it’s good you liked it in the end <3
This is definitely a polished game if I've seen one! Incredible graphics, epic adaptive soundtrack, good sound effects and a lot of high-octane action! I have several nitpicks, though. The ability to explode your own package is a bummer as shooting backwards would make the experience much more dynamic. The lack of progression renders the game a bit sluggish, and having no health bar throws away the potential for interesting tactical decisions.
That said, the core mechanic is super fun and I had a blast playing the game! Thank you!
Here's my playthrough (may need to wait for a while, the Internet here is slooooow). Sorry for a cropped video, my bad. X_X https://youtu.be/dtOrxqxuKh0
Excuse me, are you telling me that in this post-apocalyptic wasteland where I live out of my battle car there is a canyon with a broken bridge over it that does **not** function as a jump ramp?! Literally unplayable.
Jokes aside, this is an incredibly polished jam entry, even for a 4-man team, bravo! Plays very smoothly, looks gorgeous, and it also fits the theme well. One of the top games this jam for sure.
I was pretty close to having a great time in this game, but a few things got in the way. The gaping chasm that had me driving around the wrong way for a while, and I couldn't jump or shoot over it. Bummer. The packages would sometimes stick into the back of my car with the wrong rotation, which made things kinda awkward. I also didn't love that my bullets were soaked up by the package during a chase, even if it makes physical sense. That combined with no indication of health (as far as I could tell), made me have to go back and forth a couple times instead of engaging with the road rage shooting shenanigans I was here for.
The aesthetics were pretty good nonetheless, and when I did get to engage in combat, it was fairly pleasing, especially when seeing the absolute car graveyard I had created after just a few deliveries.
@poshdan thanks for the feedback, your points are very valid!
