Chef Jeff wants you! by jkniest 2022-10-22T10:39:01Z
Common, we all know, chef Jeff needs a larger hat :) Sadly, after feeding the burger i couldn't interact with any of the objects anymore. Reloading the game also didn't solve the problem :(

Gosh, this game is sooo coool. I had a good laugh at the intro :) I personally enjoy roguelikes a lot, so your game just hit the right spot. Though I didn't make it very far yet, the gameplay is already very addictive and i also liked the upgrades you can pickup so far, especially the shield. You did a great job!
Played the html version. Neat little game. I sadly ran into a bug though. I was pressing an arrow key in the direction of a box at the moment it landed on the ground and i couldn't move anymore. The time the game was working properly I enjoyed it though.
The presentation at the beginning is very good, really brings you in the mood and already adds some connection to the chararcters. The humor in the dialogs also adds to this. The music is very catchy and my ears also enjoyed the sound effects. Great job on these! I also think the artstyle and animations is where the game really shines :) The game has a lot of potential with some more of polish needed.
The teleporting mechanic really fits the theme of the game but binding it to the 10 second theme felt forced to me at some points. F.e. if you can't make it to the first spell in the first cycle, you are teleported to the other realm and can't progress there even though there would be enough time to do so if you already had the spell. I ran into this several times during the playthrough and it made the game less enjoyable when this happens.
Jumping felt a little clunky when jumping horizontaly and colliding with the environment. Losing momentum when losing ground also feels a bit unnatural.
Continuing an animation after a teleport can also lead to rather punishing moments, especially when the direction you are forcing is the same as before teleporting. This often made me fall into lava/spikes although i had "parked" the character in a safe spot before. Though this is used in different other games for gameplay elements and because the level design might be built around it, I personally don't believe that it fits in your game.
I hope the critique doesn't sound too harsh. One can feel that you put a lot of effort in the game and that's really estimable. Keep up the good work :)
@hekateras Great to hear you are still working on the game. If I find the time I will give it another try after the update.
For your first game you did a decent job. Keep it up :)
This is so cute and chill to play. I liked the artstyle and the music, in particular when it sped up. Would suggest making the cat a little faster.
Fantastic artstyle with many object details. I also really liked the challenging but entertaining gameplay.
I'm absolutely stunned. How were you able to craft such a wonderful game in so little time? It's pure art how you managed to combine the themes of death and philosophy in such a great arrangement. Is this game inspired by the Spirited Away Train Scene? If so, I definitely felt remebered to it :) There are only few things that I could really critize because the game is allready in such a good state. Graphics are also pure eye candy, besides some minor graphical bugs ( smoke also in front of the train and rails switching colour when moving between stations). Also some minor spelling mistakes and some additional blanks in the texts. All in all nothing that breaks the immersion for myself.
Thank you for presenting us this emotional journey of a game. It was perfect to calm down after a demanding weekend of game making.
I really enjoyed playing :)
PS: I guess we will never find out what happened to mister Freeman. I feel you my fellow LOTR enjoyer(s)
Oh my what a cute game :) I liked the simplicity in it. Just following the track and seeing the tiny landscape you build was already satisfying. The soundtrack fitted perfectly, but could have been a little longer for my taste, felt quite repetitive after a while (though it is really catchy). Sometimes the placement of the crows felt a little punishing, because there wasn't enough time to clear them all. The idea to disturb the player from the otherwise simple delivery mechanic is great, though. I also discovered quite a lot of T-posing cats in the landscape :D
The game is already in a good state and can be even better with some minor adjustments. Keep up the great work :)
Clever resource management and trading game. Look and feel was great while playing. Good job
Awesome graphics, controlls and map design. I also appreciate the small tutorial on how to pick up a delivery. Reminded me of a game concept I had in mind for a previous jam, but didn't realise in the end. I also liked the soundtrack though it felt a little repetitive.
My major critique would be that the game felt quite punishing while playing up to a point where it was really frustrating. Even when I tried to use alternate routes to the delivery points I always ran into multiple enemies, not talking about the ones that just spawned at the delivery points and make me lose the freight just in front of the finish. I also couldn't find a way to chase them away so I ended in being blown up most of the time. The most frustrating part was loosing a weapon after death. Props though for the possibility to re-pick up non demolished freight and continue the delivery.
@yogurtthehorse thank you for the clarifications. I replayed the game and it definitely changed the experience. Though the other cars that are not enemies are quite trigger happy :D The weapon problem solved itself obviously. Having the auto-weapon unlocked and going for a rampage felt great :)
This was a weird experience.... in a positive way :D The moovement felt really smooth. Physics reminded me of good old hillclimb race mobile game. The lighthearted guitar sounds also fit perfectly, texts are entertaining and give a good laugh due to the double meanings. Bonus appreatiation for the "save states". Great job
Nice little narrative game with an epic story that was interesting to follow and really well written. Gave me some Banner Saga Flashbacks :) The music felt a little repetitive for me though. Good game none the lesse
Great game. Loved the artstyle, ambience and the quill as mouse cursors is so cool. Navigating the ship worked very intuitively and was pretty flawless at all time. I think the interaction between the different enemy types also adds a lot to the mood and feel of the game, though it offers the player a little to much room to sit out overcrowded situations by just staying out of the conflict zones and wait till enemies eliminate each other themselves.
Like others commented, the cognitive link to do for the player between supplied and demanded wares being visually placed on different sides of the screen was also the hardest part for me in the game.
Great artstyle and fitting music. Game felt a little unintuitive at first. Took me a while to find out only the characters with "..." will provide a message but not the ones with the "?". I also missed a replay button.
Well, that ending escalated quickly :D Look and feel of the game is nice, i especially liked the lighting of the projectiles. Entering a new room felt a bit overwhelming when there are so many objects flying at you at once. Well done
Wow, this is one of the most polished entries I have seen. The animation of the king looks great and I also liked the soundtrack. Figuring out the correct answers was a little bit unsatisfying, more a try and error than actual deduction if you try to derive the correct answers only on the kings reaction. The addition to this is by receiving the hints from the other prisoners automaticaly there's actualy no real point in figuring out the answers yourself before. Could be a personal thing though
All it took was a simple but clever game mechanic an addicting soundtrack and a highscore mechanic to get me hooked. Great job :)
Target descriptions are hilarious and just complicated enough to have a short detective but satisfying detective task to fulfill. Also liked the graphihs though a different wallpaper around the play area could make it a little more immersive.
I had a bug where the camera was continously moving to rigt horizontaly all the time. Seemed very polished to me otherwise.
Quite an interesting idea, though a bit random with the pipe bombs :D The shortness of the conveyor belts plus the speed of the packages and pipe bombs made the gameplay feel a little to wonky for my personal taste. Also took me a while to figure out the game actually wants me to place the boxes on the conveyor belts on the right side with matching colours. The iconigraphy of the signs were just not clear to me from the beginning. If you like conveyor belts you might also want to check out our game :)
One of the most rounded games I played this jam. Decent artstyle and animations, chilling background music, great tutorial and simple but addicting gameplay. Great entry
Pretty solid and polished game. I especially liked the sound effects and the ambient sound. Great work on that!
Simple and relaxing game with chilling music
Wow, this game was a challenge for me, although I managed to get through in the end. I bet Kaizo players would love this one. Definitely needs practice in precise controls. I liked the gameplay idea of the lasers although this required more frequent hitting of the spacebar xD Character, art design and animations are all very fitting. I would complain about he repetitive music though. All in all nice game
Fantastic game with a very unique idea. I'd definitely like to play a longer version of this. You also did a great job on the audio and voice acting!
There more you play the more addicting this gets. Though I was confused in the first playthrough that throwing characters away rewards you with gold too, I had the aha moment at the end of it. Nice entry to the jam
Nice idea on the theme, great graphics and cutscenes! The mouse sensitivity was a bit to high for my taste and the FPS dropped a little low which made controlling the character quite hard when there many obstacles in one room.
Summoned penguins fighting robots - now thats a super hillarious game idea :D Your game feels very polished with easy to understand controlls and soothing music. Good job!
At first I thought the game was pretty fun but after the bird wall spawn the was no way to make progress anymore. This completely kills the fun for me.
Haha, great idea for a game. Seeing the office staff battle the supplies was really entertaining. I had to figure out that I needed to place the staff on the play area and not just klick on their buttons once. Had me a little confused when the just ran from one side to the other mindlessly on the top without caring on the threat xD I really liked this one a lot. Good job!
Great mood you created with the fantastic artstyle and the music. I was a little irritated because besides the "e" and "q" commands there was no information that you can control the main character though I figured that out by myself quite fast. Besides that it's a nice entry
This was amazing. Awesome graphics for a LD Jam Game. Best game I played so far on this jam. And what a cute and nice ending you put in there. Fantastic job!
I liked this one a lot, despite being rather short. The gameplay was very intuitive. What I probably loved the most was the artstyle, the overall mood and the very fitting music. Great job!
I can't stop laughing!
Haha this one is hillarious. Great job on the unit design. It got really addicting after i figuered what is even happening on the screen. Jokes on you for the rats free tip.
The music also fits the mood of the game and sounds great although it was a little repettitive after a while. I had also hoped there where some soundeffects.
All in all great job though!
Great game. Really nice artstyle, animations, sound and music. I liked playing it very much
Not even the demon got mad playing this. Felt a little too frustrating for me. Soundtrack and Look is awesome though.
Quite a solid game with an interesting idea to place the spawnpoints of enemys yourself. Although I didn't manage to complete the 12th level I still had my fun though. Maybe could have had some more sound effects or even music.
Amazing work on the graphics and the mood. I was very curious of what would happen if the ritual was successful.
Was a great experience to play this.
Nice little game though a bit repetitive gameplay for my taste. Artstyle and sound was great though!
Actually a really nice game. Good work! I like how everything works besides it's quite minimalistic.
@baluj Spin to win :DDDD
I liked the idea of your game, summoning skeletton minions to besiege an enemy castle. With some animations for the units this could be really great.
Great job on the voice acting. Probably my my favourite part of the game :)
Great cardgame. I really liked that one. Awesome mood, fitting music and sfx and great artstyle. You really managed to put up a well thought out game!
Quite interesting game with a very special but aestethical artstyle. Sadly I had a bug where a x100 pattern was not recognized and I couldn't sacrifice it. At that point I also missed the option to restart the game after having no turns left. Nice idea though
Despite being so minimalistic it's such a great game. I definitely had my fan with it. BEEEERG! I also loved the music very much. Great entry!
Nice puzzle game. I liked the music - very calming and fitting. Good work!
Nice little game of minigames. Using your own coloured pencil drawings as the game's graphics is simple but such an original idea. The humor was also great! Maybe could have used some sound effects or even some music. Great entry though!
Amazing graphics and good taste in the selection of music. After the rhythm part I didn't know what to do and how to summon anything so i just hit "p". Got me quite disappointed to see the game over screen at this point already :(
I really like how much athmosphere you created with the minimalism of the game. After the first screem I immediately thought this was probably a horror game but the unexcited gameplay had me also worry whether it really was. Oh boy was I not prepared for the ending! Controlls felt a little too punishing though with the bounceback of walls. Nice entry
Nice take on the theme. The music hooked me instantly and added a lot to the feeling of gaining speed very fast. Expected to turn out badly for the character in the end but your ending felt great though :)
Cool idea on making you collect the features of a game that are possibly taken for granted or often not as valued as the gameplay. Your game makes the player realize which role these things play in a game even more than other games do were they are just present from the start. The atmosphere the game produced makes you focus on it even more.
It's so unfortunate that you couldn't implement everything that you planned in the Jam version. The latest version is already pretty solid, though it can still take a little polishing here and there of course. Hope you can make your vision real in the later versions.
Referring to the 1.0.1 version
A nice game to play for relaxing with very beatiful art and chill music. The flowers bobbing when hovering over them gave me almost the same feeling as drawing rectangles with the mouse on the desktop or in paint when i was a child - just very satisfying to watch.
Unfortunately the game crashed several times at random actions. Once after trying to open the journal after all flowers were unlocked and once after selecting a flower after closing the journal.
Hope you got that fixed in a later version.
One of my most favorite games this jam, even in the 1.0 version. I like the different combinations you can plan your turn with and almost every combo feels viable and rewarding. I don't know whether it was due to clever balancing or just your luck that even though armor didn't work for the enemy sometimes the game was still pretty hard to beat, though. Of course I will asume it was the first case ;)
The polishes and bug fixes you implemented since then make the game even rounder and more enjoyable than in its innitial state.
Great job!
Probably crafted well and fun to play if i knew how to progress beyond the 2nd soul in the first level
@korzhik Ok thanks, I managed to progress to the finish of the first level now. My problem was that I didn't know the hook would pull you towards the yellow blocks.
But oh boy, it feels rather punishing to be put back to the first level after failing once in the second.
The game looks very cute and has a fantastic artstyle. You did a good job on that part for your first entry. I especially liked the animation of the falling leaves.
However here are some things on which you can improve in my opinion.
The music could need more variance to be less monotone and fit the mood better. For example you could add some additional notes in the melody or create new patterns alternating with each other to keep the music interesting.
Although the artstyle produces a rather cozy mood the chat with the characters felt rather rushed and a little too fast, so I had to talk with the characters several times to read everything they had to say. I think giving the player the option to skip to the next text passage by themselves would fit the pacing of the game better.
Lastly the character physics and collision with shrooms felt a bit wonky, but that can be tweaked easily and is nothing other game creators haven't gone through in the making of their games before.
Keep up the already good work and I'm sure you will become better and better.
The graphics are awesome and driving is a lot of fun especially when drifting using the handbreak. Unfortunately when you crash into something it feels like being glued with the object you collided with which takes away a lot of the momentum of the game.
The idea of taking pictures and sending them via the helicopter is great, but navigating through the city to find the next accident and afterwards finding the helicopter is quite hard.
Very polished though. Had fun playing it.
