HE'S BACK!

hmrpf 2023-05-02 10:03

Sadly... Iiim not sure how to do a quest. But the game physics and controls were super nice ! And the design and feel are incredible. Nice job in so little time !

fabula-rasa 2023-05-02 10:25

@hmrpf Thanks for playing and commenting . Sorry you had trouble. In-game compass (press "C") will point you to your next destination. Make sure to use it. After you get to a place, just press "Enter" to interact. We now added and explicit "How to play" section.

civmaniac 2023-05-02 10:59

@trexxak Back and ready to roam the galaxy on his rocket bike! 😁

hmrpf 2023-05-02 11:34

@fabula-rasa Oh ok ! I actually understood the compass but didn't press enter ! I'm gonna try again thks !

bezedh 2023-05-02 12:08

Very cool ! I really enjoyed flying in space freely, the controls are intuitive, and it was a great time to discover this magnificent crystal planet, until I crashed to the ground in gloriously! very fun experience gg! (the controller implementation is a BIG +1 :D )

cowgummiboy 2023-05-02 12:08

I love how the movement feels, its really fun to fly arround space and deliver things, especially with the fun music in the background. Really relaxing and fun to play. I would have liked it if the missions were ranomized tough, since you can die super fast and then do the same missions again.

equalenergy 2023-05-02 12:10

I really like the gravity, it feels like mario galaxy gravity just 2D. Also IDK how easy or hard the gravity would be, I have theories as how you would do it.

mackelio 2023-05-02 12:10

I AM A SPACE DELIVERY BOY!! hehe great job! idk but it gives me outer wilds vibes!! :D loved it!

alex-chertilin 2023-05-02 12:14

I like the world but it’s so hostile for delivery

civmaniac 2023-05-02 12:25

@cowgummiboy Game actually remembers your progress. It only resets the unfinished mission. But those that you've completed the game remembers.

cowgummiboy 2023-05-02 12:38

@civmaniac huh that is weird maybe i didnt deliver the packet or something but i always had to start from the beginning when i fell on my head

Edit: Okay now it works, im gonna give it another shot then.

skyystorm 2023-05-02 12:59

What an amazing game. Very fun, cool music, simple concept, great work.

elysiagriffin 2023-05-02 15:23

bauke-regnerus 2023-05-02 16:12

I've played a few of these space-delivery games by now, but somehow this one strikes different. The graphics are really cute and getting things done without violence is something I really appreciate. Pretty hard at times. Great effort!

midna 2023-05-02 20:55

The graphics are great and it's fun to play. I really like gravity games, even though I suck at them. Didint really understand how to complete the mission, but it was still fun. I loved checking out all the details. the music is nice too. it's not intrusive and you can even whistle along. Great job!

amunonra 2023-05-02 21:55

This was a weird experience.... in a positive way :D The moovement felt really smooth. Physics reminded me of good old hillclimb race mobile game. The lighthearted guitar sounds also fit perfectly, texts are entertaining and give a good laugh due to the double meanings. Bonus appreatiation for the "save states". Great job

rhewid 2023-05-02 22:07

Great entry, needed some time to get comfortable with the controls but its funny to die through gravity. Had fun with this one! Oh and great graphics+music.

cinterre 2023-05-02 22:19

Really impressive package! I would never have guessed this was done so quickly. Very cool mechanics.

ruruie 2023-05-02 23:15

It was really fun to just fly around once I got the hang of the landings and rotating into them. Fantastic work!

jaco-van-hemert 2023-05-03 07:46

The controls felt really unintuitive for a bit (had to get by using only boost and Z/X), but after a while, I started to get a feeling for it, and it felt great. Really fun to fly around once you get used to it. Perhaps rather arrows for rolling, Z for accelerate forward, and X to flip 180? But that would have been unintuitive on the ground, so maybe not!

Music was well chosen; it gave a nice chill, adventurous vibe. I liked the cute graphics and the little snippets of dialogue.

I also really liked how there were ways to deal with enemies, but you could also just avoid them. A lot of games that have the "just avoid them" component devolve into thousands of enemies in a mob behind you all the time towards the end, but you've avoided that, so it felt worth it to avoid them.

Not much else to say. Really excellent job.

wouterk12 2023-05-03 11:57

Wow I really liked the way the gravity pulls you towards planets and how you can take off. Cool mechanics, well done! :D

andreadbx 2023-05-03 13:11

Very nice game! Loved the movement, once you get the grip of it it's very satisfying flying around! graphics are cute!

xandruher 2023-05-03 19:43

Really charming game. Good to see other Godot Devs here around! I was dying a bit too often. But the mechanics felt pretty good and was much fun to explore those different worlds. Kinda reminded me on Starbound. The Art and music looks good and git well to the game. Nice Entry, enjoyed it!

emeraldalkemist 2023-05-03 22:40

Quite a fun game. The controls feel rewarding once you finally understand them.

chompdev 2023-05-03 22:41

This one is very fun! I found myself just flying around space and enjoying the movement itself rather than worrying about objectives (at the start). The ability to drive around the planet surface and do tricks is really enjoyable, as is being able to make a perfect landing and glide smoothly down to a planet surface. It's also very fun to just circle a planet repeatedly, feathering the throttle to keep your bike floating at a consistent height as you orbit. Great work designing so many fun mechanics and controls in one weekend!

rubentipparach 2023-05-03 22:42

This was super fun and surprisingly relaxing. Found myself dodging junk and making accidental safe landings all the time. I only screwed up really when I got disoriented lol.

fabula-rasa 2023-05-04 10:19

@hmrpf @bezedh @cowgummiboy @equalenergy @mackelio @alex-chertilin @skyystorm @elysiagriffin @bauke-regnerus @midna @amunonra @rhewid @cinterre @ruruie @jaco-van-hemert @wouterk12 @andreadbx @xandruher @emeraldalkemist @rubentipparach

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to play and leave thoughtful feedback! We crunched like never before on this one (like craaaaaazy :scream:), and it's nice to see people enjoying it. It's also nice to know that nobody is reporting motion sickness, as we thought that might be a concern.

Thank you again :smile_cat:

hmrpf 2023-05-04 12:38

Absolutely no motion sickness for me ! Again great entry ! Good job :)

svenerik 2023-05-04 17:07

Very neat work with this one, everything feels very well polished and the mechanics & physics are wonderful. Also no motion-sickness for me~. I also love the overall aesthetics of it, whoosh all the way~ I can see this being expanded to a full game easily, hopefully you'll do something with it, great work!

xedur 2023-05-04 17:10

Like others have mentioned, the controls feel quite unintuitive and that likely contributes to the feeling of being excessively punished (killed) for somewhat minor mistake (hitting your head). Using enter to interact with locations also seemed a bit uncomfortable because you had to, at least partially, let go of the controls.

That being said, I did enjoy the take on the theme and the "driving off asteroids" aspect was well executed and fun. The audio was also fairly soothing of the amount of deaths that were going on.

civmaniac 2023-05-04 17:41

@XeduR, thanks for playing! Any thoughts on how to improve controls?

thatmisterm 2023-05-04 19:32

I suck at this game but it's fantastic. Great game!

dusho 2023-05-04 21:06

feels like lots of things are trying to kill you.. the game feels smooth, but I was struggling with controls a lot.. especially when trying to control it in outer space.. like flipping thrust from side to side messed up my direction where I wanted to go.. other than that.. nice graphics and music

twaerd 2023-05-04 21:28

The game is fun but the controls are difficult to understand and manipulate unfortunately

xedur 2023-05-04 21:29

@civmaniac I guess the unintuitive feeling comes partly from how left and right arrows are used to control the main movement direction. They work fine, but when you get to flipping around in space, you can lose your "real direction" and "suddenly" left moves right and right moves left. I guess another minor aspect is how the tilting/rotating is so much slower and feels much less responsive than the left/right main controls.

Like so many LD games, with more time and more polish, this'd could be turned into a real smooth game. It's already fun, but it could be smoother.

lomby 2023-05-04 21:57

Thanks for submitting your game on the stream! Here’s the stream if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts (timestamps in the description to jump to your game!) [youtube link](youtu.be/7zAPBeiWuqA)

civmaniac 2023-05-04 22:22

@xedur That's the thing, I can't see a good solution. Increasing rolling/tilting speed would lead to even more such problems with right and left thruster controls, because camera would have to catch up more often. Increasing camera speed leads to comfort issues and motion sickness. Personally, I don't have problems with controls, but I understand why some people have issues. How to fix/improve the controls is another thing. Haven't got a clue so far.

gao-ming 2023-05-05 06:51

Quite interesting, I like it, well done!

duke-ua 2023-05-05 08:23

Absolutely great game! That was a lot of fun jumping on asteroids. The only thing that confused me - is controls. I would propose to use QE- to rotate, and, for example, F - to use.

fabula-rasa 2023-05-05 12:31

@duke-ua You are absolutely correct about the controls. In a post-jam version we are working on right now, we actually changed the roll buttons to QE and interaction to R. Feels better indeed :smiley_cat:

Thanks for playing and for taking the time to leave feedback! Glad you enjoyed the game.

xedur 2023-05-05 17:07

@civmaniac One possible option could be to have a "go forward" button and "flip direction" button. But yeah, these issues are always tricky and require a lot of playtesting.

aurailus 2023-05-05 17:26

This game broke my brain for the first while, but once I got a hang of the controls I had a lot of fun! The art is charming, the number of different environments you managed to cram in the timeframe is impressive, and flinging yourself through space is great! Space zombies are an... interesting choice  but they made the gameplay more hectic and intense. This is a super solid game, great job! Oh, and I definitely recommend playing with a controller ;)

kanity 2023-05-06 14:50

Music is fantastic and fits the game well, very upbeat and dynamic, and I love the feeling of freedom in outer space. "Gore" elements make me a bit uncomfortable personally, but I think for the general public they are subtle enough. Was a bit hard to get a handle of mechanics, but the idea and style are great!

ardorugus 2023-05-07 03:53

Not easy to master, but very cute and phatasmagorical. The space is a loveable place here, neat design. However, you can crash so easily, maybe the game could be more easy-going, now it's quite hardcore. Make it more chill, and there's a hit. Thanks for this eye-pleasing visual experience!

ategon 2023-05-07 05:03

Thanks for submitting your game to be played on the stream! If you wanted to watch my reaction again here's the vod timestamped to your game https://youtu.be/iOvkquUaMjs?t=7690

digital-bacon 2023-05-07 10:21

I found the controls very frustrating (probably a me-problem ), but the idea is pretty neat and well executed. Graphics and music are nice. Good work.

jimmymcginger 2023-05-07 21:28

I'm 100% like digital bacon here! I think I just suck but none the less the game was very fun. I loved the layout and how the space phyics worked. Graphics/Sound were charming. Really great job.

niz 2023-05-07 21:40

This one is fun!

The visuals are really neat and the game is quite easy to comprehend (although controls are hard to master). Also nice touch with the brutality, I took a while to notice but the dead boy's head was quite the thing.

The music is cool but I missed more sound effects in it.

The red arrows were supposed to be the gravity? I thought so but wasn't sure. The physics are amazing and it feels really good when you get to survive your own inability with the controls, delivery boy got some skills maneuvering.

Overall a very fun game! Especially funny if you watch people rage quitting while they play!

civmaniac 2023-05-07 21:48

@niz Yep, red arrows are the gravity pull and more arrows indicate stronger gravity (4 arrows - the strongest). Controls sadly take some time to get used to, can't seem to figure out how to improve them. Ironically, we are working on post-jam version with optional challenges that increase the difficulty . And thanks for playing, appreciate good feedback!

papaver 2023-05-09 13:28

Cute graphics and cool mechanics!

I did find it quite hard to control and to avoid all the flying things. I completed some missions, but it wasn't clear if was starting over all the time or not (because many symbols stay on the compass). But suddenly I won the game!

Hi, everyone! As some of you reported troubles with getting the hang of controls (and subsequent over-abundance of dying :smirk:), we are happy to announce that we made a **Post-Jam version** in which we **improved controls** and introduced a landing assist option to further facilitate planetary landings (enabled in the main menu). We would be most grateful if you would find a few minutes and try it out. Let us know if we are on the right path, and if we managed to indeed improve your experience. It would help us learn and be better in the future projects. **Your help is appreciated**. Thank you! :gift_heart:

You'll find a new web version (and downloadable ones) here: https://limboofwonders.itch.io/delivery-boy-express-post-jam

Apart from improved controls, we added other tasty bits, such as: - Optional **challenges** for players looking to test their skills (also enabled in the main menu). - **Getting paid** for your deliveries! - **High score** system with special badges. - Galaxy **traffic** and a gravity anomaly. - Improved easter egg 🐸 and **zombie dancing**.

justcamh 2023-05-10 14:52

I was really surprised by how much damn fun this game was. The controls at the start were quite... finnicky and I had incorrectly guessed this would detract from the game, but once I had that figured, the sheer chaos of the game was such that I couldn't help smiling the whole time! I love how everything interacts with each other, and it was great watching it all unfold in bizarre and often comedic ways. Here's a link to the stream vod if you wanna rewatch;

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1816190498

flying-dog-fish 2023-05-10 19:21

As Philip J. Fry would say: I'm a delivery boy! Dying by tripping on a space cookie a second after killing a space zombie and ridiculous ways has never been so fun. Anyway, this game is really fun to play and looks great.

chris1919 2023-05-14 14:45

Great game. I had a lot of fun. I think you could make some small tweaks in terms of feedback and ui and it would make the game even better. I didn't notice at first that the objectives would highlight when you could interact with them. I think this should be exaggerated even more. Maybe add an interact icon that pops up and flash the objective instead of just highlighting it. Also, the compass could maybe focus on just the objectives at hand, instead of showing all locations all the time.

Cool effect on the sky darkening when you go into space. That helped telegraph gravity weakening.

stephenwhoskins 2023-05-16 00:58

Great game! I like the graphics and the integration of this Ludum Dare's theme. I'm a return player as a result of your Delivery Boy Forever game! =D

trexxak 2023-05-16 05:05

Whoa, you outdid yourselves once more, the crunch really showed!

Controls felt great and the physics made me want to keep playing, the dialogue was super fun (loved all the different characters and how they enriched the game world :D ), top-notch character design! Oh, and kudos to you for not just jumping into dev with Godot 4, but also successfully delivering an amazing game!

Great to have you guys back, and thank you for the this brilliant game!

(and apologies for my proper feedback taking so long :/)

skel3ton 2023-05-18 18:41

very nice game. I have seen that Space Delivery Boy already has its own history spanning games from past LD jams. I like that the universe is full of different things I can encounter as a player. The controls still feel awkward to me, and if you fall on your helmet, death is inevitable. But I do like the death animation. Brutal Very good entry
