LD45 — Start with nothing

Tubizo and the Dark Detrimental Wizard of Chaos by Rolly 2019-10-07T00:22:30Z

Hilarious game! I loved the voice acting, it brought the whole piece together! The mechanics were fun as well, all in all really enjoyable.

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-07T00:12:27Z

@gerugames Thanks! Yeah, in retrospect I probably left it a bit long, it's possible that some people might even get bored and think that's all there is to it, but oh well, things to note for next time ^-^

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-07T00:23:03Z

@snufkinshat Thank you so much!

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-07T00:23:49Z

@dps2004 Thanks for your kind words! I didn't have time to submit to the compo and have sounds, but it was definitely something I wanted to do. Maybe next time!

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-07T00:26:43Z

@jcmoyer @bry Sorry about that! The framework I used (Phaser 3) didn't support framerate limiting and I didn't have time to muck around with delta time.

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-07T00:49:08Z

@plazmaz Thank you so much!

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-09T19:47:07Z

@goldenevolution Thank you! Yeah.. I should put a warning in the post description about that.

Yogurt's Quest by Aurailus 2019-10-19T09:15:16Z

@weeping-rupee Thanks for streaming it! It was interesting to see what specific things people got hung up on. Sorry the beginning was so gruelling to you, I think it had to do with your display scale, and also that I set the bar too high. You tend to get too good at something when you debug it all afternoon to properly gauge what to expect from new players :P

Nothing by Bocodillo 2019-10-07T00:11:24Z

Funny game! I feel like space bar giving you a million of everything sort of ruins the progression though, but maybe that's what you wanted xP

Cloud Boy by JCMonkey 2019-10-07T00:44:59Z

Cool idea! It feels like there isn't too much challenge though, with being able to create your own platforms at will and all that.

It may be your story by Keseril 2019-10-06T22:18:20Z

Great game! I loved the meaning behind the positive words lifting you up and the negative words hitting you down. I encountered a few bugs but all in all a great first game!

Mr.Grind by iozsaygi 2019-10-06T22:24:54Z

Cool entry and proof of concept! The game is lacking substance at the moment but with a two day time limit I can't blame you. Kept me interested for far too long, haha.

Ludum Dare 45: v0.0.1 (Working Title) by Travis Carlen 2019-10-06T22:30:03Z

Really neat! I was disappointed to see yet another clicker but when I unlocked the first box it totally flipped it on it's head. I loved the interactive stuff and how it compounded to create more difficult gameplay as you unlocked new areas.

Reutemeteut (web) by croewens 2019-10-09T19:46:28Z

Very cool! I actually like the super minimalist art style, really lets you focus on the game. The controls were a little too floaty for me, but a lot of fun!

Blobby by Laddicus 2019-10-06T23:56:00Z

I couldn't figure out how to shoot, and got immediately killed. Also the world kept looping.

From Space by AskingQuestions 2019-10-06T23:37:30Z

Great game! Really interesting mechanics, although it feels like the enemies shoot you from a little too far out, I should at least have a chance to kill them before they take away my health.

The Nothings by Stefanie Leitch 2019-10-06T22:38:36Z

I loved it! Most complete game I've played so far. The concept and execution were spot on!

Vaahtera by wie_ 2019-10-07T00:02:55Z

Interesting game, I couldn't figure out how to place leaves, I clicked on the leaf icon, then pressed space, but nothing happened. Still a neat idea!

LD52 — Harvest

Growin' Ballistic by alaah 2023-01-10T06:35:53Z

I enjoyed the simplistic art style of this game, and I liked trying out the different plant turrets. I did not immediately realize I could zoom out and access more plots, and I wish that there was longer gaps between waves, but I enjoyed the gameplay a lot! This was a fun, cute game, and I'm happy to have played it!

Bas by salmonmoose 2023-01-12T01:15:57Z

This game is super cute! I love the art, and the plants. The growing animations are great. The controls could use a bit of refinement, particularly with jumping on vines, and I wonder if it would be easier to just use the mouse to select the current seed instead of buttons, at least on keyboard. I love the blend of puzzle and platforming mechanics. I played to the end, I hope you make more of this game!

Betty Raba - Don't Be Harvested by mcechinatto 2023-01-20T06:47:41Z

This game was pretty fun, I played it a few times and enjoyed it! I didn't end up surviving the full 4 minutes any of the times I played, mostly out of carelessness. I feel like there should either be collectables or a timer, not both. Or at least show the score when you die, instead of just booting me out. Good job!

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-10T06:49:01Z

@koboldskeep thank you! I would have liked to implement more enemy types (I was thinking of a charger type enemy that would dash at you), but I ran out of time. I've been thinking of how to improve the interface post jam, and I think that I'd like to make the dice selector a persistent hotbar, and have spells automatically cast using the selected dice to reduce the jarring pacing changes.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-10T06:49:48Z

@bloodfin Thank you! I was most excited about the cards and dice mechanic, I'm really happy that you liked it. I hope to continue iterating on this concept after the jam.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-10T06:51:10Z

@salmonmoose thank you! I want to keep pushing the game further post-jam.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-10T06:53:56Z

@feor it was a mad dash to complete the game in time, that's for sure. I'm really glad you enjoyed playing it! I plan to improve the spellcasting by adding a persistent dice hotbar, and having spells trigger instantly with the selected dice when you fire them. I would've loved to add roguelite mechanics (persistent buffs, unlocking new cards / modifiers, and more), but I didn't quite have time during the jam. If I make a post-jam version, I'll let you know!

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-10T06:57:15Z

@archfan7411 Thank you! Roguelikes are a lot of fun, I'd recommend trying some :)

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-12T08:06:01Z

@lone-wolf Thanks!!! Shattered Pixel Dungeon is a high bar, but I'd like to keep pushing this game further and meet it eventually :)

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-12T08:07:05Z

@iminsoftware Thank you! I'm glad you liked the art, I was pretty happy with how it turned out given how much I had to rush. That goddamn timer screwed me at the end haha. I'd like to add even more content, and proc gen in the future to give it even more replayability.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-12T08:07:51Z

@sikowny I initially planned to have bosses and more enemy types, but I totally ran out of time! I would like to flesh this game out further post-jam, and add a lot more content to it. Thanks for your feedback!

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-12T08:09:46Z

@kiberptah Thanks! I'm thinking I might add scroll-wheel selection to get to the different cards, as well as showing the current card (either with a name or an icon) beside your cursor, so you always know what you're about to cast.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-12T08:10:12Z

@offdutyextractors I'm glad you liked it! The idea had been bouncing around in my head for a few years now. I definitely want to polish it up and take it further.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-20T06:55:00Z

@medow Thanks! I'm glad you liked the card management aspect. I'm happy with how the maximum hand size encourages you to use spells liberally. Hating the mages seems to be a common theme :)

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-20T06:57:08Z

@reivilibre Thank you for your review! You're intended to read the cards either when you're not being attacked (enemies have an aggro range, you won't be hit right out the bat), or in the safe rooms between every level. I'm not sure how Javascript behaves when checking for keys that have had their software layouts changed, I was just using regular event bindings. I have a different keyboard layout, but it's set on the keyboard side with QMK, so I wasn't able to test software layouting.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-20T06:57:26Z

@crashbashash Thank you! I'm hoping to turn it into something more :)

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-20T06:58:43Z

@mhorth Thank you for your comments! I'm really relieved I managed to get everything done for the compo deadline, I worked a *lot* of hours over those two days. If you're interested in seeing how development continues, I have a Discord server that's linked in the description :)

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-20T07:00:09Z

@phlip45 Thanks for your review! :) I added the sound effects in the last 15 minutes of the submission period, so I didn't quite have time for music haha. I spent most of my time on the programming and art.

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-20T07:00:57Z

@djtequila Thank you! I wanted to add unique colors and graphics to the cards, but I totally ran out of time. Cards are literally the first draft placeholder art that I initially made unfortunately :)

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-27T06:20:23Z

@dev-314 Thank you!!! I'm really glad people are liking the card system, as to be honest, that was the mechanic I was the most interested in :)

Reap 'n' Roll by Aurailus 2023-01-27T06:21:45Z

@burnedkirby I'm glad it kept you hooked! I wanted to have at least 3 enemy variations, but I got really short on time. I'm pretty sure I only implemented the ranged guys like 4 hours before the deadline, and then I spent the rest of the time cleaning up all the bugs and trying to get the game barely functional. I'd really like to continue working on this project in the future and make it a more full-fledged game. I have a Discord linked above if you'd like to see that when it happens.

Doki Doki Ninjin by ChevalBancal 2023-01-20T06:53:04Z

This game is so incredibly cute! It's such a loving homage to Doki Doki Panic / Mario 2, all the art and characters were super well done and adorable. I really liked the different gimmick plants you could collect, like the Cherry Bombs and the Leek Propellers. The character dialogue was fun, and I love that you have to be nice to the NPCs to get a perfect score. I have no idea how you guys managed to cram so much content into a jam entry. Incredible job!

Oyster Odyssey by osh.studio 2023-01-20T06:38:45Z

I really liked this game! The progression is fun, the story is simple but sets the tone immediately, and I liked the idea of travelling deeper and deeper into the depths. I think the environment could use some more variation, such as environmental hazards and puzzles, and going deeper didn't really produce any more challenges. I didn't end up getting to the end, but if I had more time to play it I could see casually chipping away at the upgrades until I get there. Good job!

Food Flinger by ofoof 2023-01-20T06:16:36Z

I really enjoyed playing your game! The fruit was super spastic when I tried to move it, which I actually think added to the experience a lot. One thing I think could be improved is it doesn't seem like the game will give you all of the fruits you need to fulfill all your orders. I think a semi-random system that ensures that enough of each type of fruit are dropped (with some margin of error) would be good for that. Great job on your first jam!

Charlie’s Lemonade Stand by Exezur 2023-01-20T06:21:30Z

I liked the disconcerting deep fried energy of this game. The music made me feel like I was dying, but in a good way. I was pretty unclear on what to do until I was informed by chat, but once I figured it out, I had a good time. Perhaps a bit more direction in-game would be helpful. I also didn't realize that only one type of enemy made you progress. Thanks for the lemonade :3

GRIM REAPER: Harvester of Souls by dkdwrek 2023-01-10T06:23:32Z

A really fun and enjoyable take on the theme. The controls felt fluid, and I really liked the online scoreboard, I played a couple times just to get my initials on there. (AJC if you want to contest me!) I liked the art and the music, and the gameplay was interesting, with how you have to take different actions depending on the type of enemy that approaches you. The lighting stood out to me a little bit, given that it was a pixel art game, but it had very realistic shading. I think a bit of undersampling & posterization of the shadows would go a long way to adding to the atmosphere. Great job, guys!

DEATHLESS by Demure 2023-01-12T01:12:57Z

I really like the concept here, although I'm a bit unclear on why I take damage, and when. The art style is neat and creepy, and the gameplay is snappy and enjoyable. I like the strategy with having to only get one color of keys every input sequence.

Carvest by feor 2023-01-12T01:25:33Z

Great concept, the art is simple and appealing, and it's really enjoyable to slam a bunch of vehicles into each other for points. I think the game could benefit from requiring more strategic placements of various obstacles, maybe if it was designed more as a puzzle game than a sandbox, and right now it feels like placing walls is usually the best option. The fact that you got a level editor in in time was impressive! Great job :)

4 Souls 2 Reap by Kepsert 2023-01-10T06:44:59Z

This game is maddeningly impressive. I would buy it, right now, in its current state. I streamed playing it on Twitch, and it entirely derailed the rest of the stream because I wanted to finish it. The controls are fluid, the abilities augment the platforming well. I love the aesthetic, and the levels were *so* well designed. You've created a nearly perfect the precision platformer in three days. Stop it! You're scaring me. Your team did absolutely amazing, and I 100% want to see more from you if you choose to continue this game's development. Thank you so much~

If you want to watch my gameplay, I uploaded the VOD here: https://youtu.be/mwYiD6fR8PE (gameplay of this game starts at 1:42:09)

Powered Plants by RobotChimp 2023-01-12T01:20:14Z

This game is fantastic! The art and music are both beautiful, the particle effects are juicy, and the enemies have so much character to them. I love the theming. The variety of plants and enemies is great for a jam entry. I wish there was a bit more strategy with choosing what to attack, as right now it feels like just spinning in a circle is the optimal strategy. When I first saw "Stackable" in the seed descriptions, I thought it meant that you could place multiple in the same tile to bolster that plant's effect. That turned out not to be the case, but I think that would be a great idea if you wanted to expand on the concept. Great job all around!!

No Harvest by RogerW 2023-01-20T06:32:03Z

This game is great! I love the art, the effects, the design, and the implementation. I mirror the other commentors in thinking that having to press OK for each effect feels a bit redundant. I also think that the amount of plants that grow every time you destroy some is too high, I believe it cycles between 4, 4, and 8, which is a *lot*, as when you get absolutely optimal placements, which happen rarely, you can only get 9. Upgradable spells would be very cool. I definitely wasn't thinking of puzzle games when I saw the theme, but this game shows me how well they work. Super cute game!

Pipeline Defender by PapaD 2023-01-20T06:12:56Z

The art is this game is really nice! The slow zoom out is interesting, and the animation is a bit jarring with how it scales the pixels, but somehow the art looks good when zoomed in and when zoomed out. I like the idea of the game, but I find it pretty hard to play, at least as a single player. It would definitely be easier with others, but I think it's missing some more flexible aiming controls. Only being able to fire ahead of you was really limiting when there was dozens of flying enemies around. I also found that the pipes weren't really dying, their passive regen seems really high. The game didn't end until I jumped off the bottom of the map :) I think you guys have a great concept here, that could be polished into something really fun!

Harvest - Food Cut by burnedkirby 2023-01-26T08:30:11Z

Silly but enjoyable concept. I like the voice lines!

Final Harvest by lizelive 2023-01-27T06:09:20Z

I hope you get enough ratings to qualify! Your game is really impressive for the time you had to develop it. I've reached out to a few other jam participants to see if I can get you a few more ratings. Good luck!

Harvesting Hustle by AngryRubberDucky 2023-01-20T06:10:15Z

I liked this game a lot! At first I wasn't sure how it would become difficult, but as more and more sheep crowded onto the board, I realized it wasn't about trying to herd them away, but simply trying to have any space to plant at all :) The voxel art style is really appealing, and it's super polished for a Jam game. Great job!

Reaper by aevek 2023-01-10T06:16:21Z

Gorgeous low-bit graphics. I really like the tileset, and the little bits of wheat that you can cut with your scythe add to the atmosphere in an appealingly abstract way. The player controls a little bit funny, occasionally losing velocity in mid air, but it's very fun to play regardless! I agree with the above commenter that it can be a bit frustrating when the soul flies out of reach, and I was slightly confused initially that I had to jump into the soul instead of hitting it with the scythe. I really enjoyed playing your game on stream!

Samhain by daitli 2023-01-20T06:43:06Z

My god, this game looks and plays great for a compo game. I definitely thought it was a jam game when I played it. The gameplay is super snappy, the chains feel impactful, and the sound design is great. I had a ton of fun playing it several times. Super impressive!!

Deep Harvest VII by Bloodfin 2023-01-10T06:20:22Z

This game was incredible! I loved the voice acting from the very beginning, both actors were so talented! I'm super impressed by the amount of polish your team managed to cram into 3 days. The story was interesting to hear unfold, the atmosphere was mysterious and foreboding, and the underwater craft felt clunky in all the right ways. I can't help but feel like the story would have hit a bit harder if you were actually travelling down the same ocean vent that was being described in the black-boxes, wondering if you might discover the same creature as the quiet creaking of your ship made you painfully aware of how vulnerable you were, but given the insane time constraints of this jam I perfectly understand why that didn't happen. I'd love to see you guys flesh this game out into a beautiful environmental horror, it's already 90% there. Amazing job, all!

Harvester Inc. by OffDutyExtractors 2023-01-10T06:27:42Z

I really enjoyed playing this game! It was mischievously fun to dig into (imaginary) people's personal lives and steal their data. I'll admit, when I saw the disclaimer in the description about the AI generated assets, I was skeptical, but I think that this game was the best example for the value of such tools that I've seen to date. I think there's a balance between empty searching and activity that was *slightly* off, where I felt like I was scrolling through looking for data a bit too much, and I wasn't spending enough time actually discovering things, which I think could be improved with smaller social media feeds for your targets, but it's super hard to balance things like that on such a short timeframe, and it's pretty damn good already. The game could have benefitted from an interactive tutorial that showed me what to do, as I definitely got lost a bit in the beginning, but that's something that could be added in a post jam release, if the dev chooses to continue. I really loved the aesthetic of the virtual browser too, it sucked me right in, it was very inventive and enjoyable. I hope you guys polish this up into a full game after the jam, I'd love to play more!

Hedgehog Tree by Alexascher 2023-01-20T06:45:13Z

This game is incredibly cute! The art is gorgeous, I was sucked right in when playing. It's a bit odd to me that the apples collide with other apples, it can make it difficult to get any apples above any others down to the hedgehogs. I liked the smart hedgehogs, but after my first few I basically found myself ignoring my original ones. Maybe if you could upgrade basic ones into smart ones somehow?

LD53 — Delivery

Popcorn Odyssey by 0X_VOID_X0 2023-05-03T16:53:47Z

This game is wildly fun! I couldn't put it down until I was done. The end scene is definitely worth it ;) I didn't expect to have so much in-flight control, and it was a super refreshing iteration on the Angry Birds formula. The levels were challenging, but not too challenging, although I think a couple of the later levels were a bit too long to not have any checkpoints in them. The humour was great, the music was great. The art was really pleasing to look at, except for the janky parallax, but I imagine that's because you ran out of time. This jam is definitely top scoring in Fun for me. Amazing job!

Ultimate Package by Triangle Point 2023-05-19T19:12:45Z

Pretty neat take on the theme! I would mirror what some other people said here about the sort of unwieldy movement controls. The enemies are also quite hard to dodge, as it seems like they jump when it's almost impossible to dodge them. Definitely impressive to make a platformer like this in the Compo timeframe though!

Coastal Carrier by Kosmik123 2023-05-05T17:28:45Z

I don't know why, but this game was giving me intense Pocket Frogs energy the whole time I played it. It has just that right blend of MS Paint art and realistic aliased JPEGs to give me a wonderful wave of nostalgia the whole time I played. The mechanics are simple, but enjoyable, and the difficulty progresses very naturally with the timer speeding up as you deliver the fruit. This is just a good feels kinda game. Great job!

Medieval Messenger by José Bonilla 2023-05-19T19:48:59Z

I like the concept of hex-based movement games like this, although I noticed a few rough edges when I played. For one, having to click tile by tile over and over on a map this big was pretty tiring, it would have been nice to be able to draw a path or something and have the whole thing be executed at once. The terrain difficulty mechanics were super cool, but I got really frustrated when I realized that the bandits didn't get affected by them at all, so entering a mountain or a desert was just a death trap if any of the enemies caught sight of you. I also encountered an issue where I'd have a package to deliver to a location, but I couldn't because they had a quest for me to deliver something elsewhere, resulting in me having to go in a big circle to deliver the second package, and then return to deliver the first. The art was really well done, and it reminded me of classing turn based games. I also liked that fighting wasn't a mechanic, just fleeing. Nice game!

Delivery Boy by waptaincaffles 2023-05-03T16:48:09Z

This game is really fun! I played a few times to try to get a good score. It's a very solid arcade-like experience. Your character bears a shocking resemblance to a pizza delivery boy in a certain franchise... what a coincidence! The gameplay is solid and hectic, I like how you have to hit A and D while you're trying to move around at full speed. Great job!

Delivery Boy by waptaincaffles 2023-05-03T18:18:57Z

@tofucat All things considered, the keyboard layout actually worked well for me! It was definitely a bit cursed but it didn't impact my playing experience. And even if it did, I wouldn't hold it against you, it's not your fault that I interface with my computer weirdly

Under The Moon Delivery by Attala 2023-05-19T19:45:00Z

I really like games like this. The graphics are super polished, and the movement is smooth. The tight corridors really challenged me, which was neat. When I got to the surface, I had a bit of a wow-moment as the moon spread out in front of me. Super fun game!

A mailman's nightmare! by Nature Pixels 2023-05-20T00:51:16Z

This game is pretty cool! The speed of the gameplay feels pretty fast, and the bullets are quite hard to see on the background, but the core movement is solid. A lot of the levels feel the same, since you can usually just do one jump left or right to complete them. But I definitely think there's an interesting core here. Nice job!

Meowxtape: Delivery by crow_seeds 2023-05-08T03:02:51Z

This game is so cute! The texting and driving segments were my favorite, I was hitting cars left and right while reading the dialogue. The characters and music are expressive, the story was funny, our protagonist was lovably terrible. This game has great energy. My only suggestion would be that maybe the driving gameplay could be a bit deeper? It's also fun how it is, though. Awesome job!

Bundle Dumper: Florida Edition by cheesepencil 2023-05-19T19:15:00Z

Oh my god, I played this game on stream a few weeks ago (sorry for taking so long to review -.-) and it was so much fun! The humour had me laughing my ass off, and the gameplay was difficult but enjoyable. I always felt like I was in control, even when stuff got really busy. Super impressive that you got all of this made not only in the Compo period, but also using PICO-8. Great job!

Delivery Is EVERYTHING by SephoWepho 2023-05-19T20:10:01Z

The art and style of this game slaps. I love the concept of a joke-throwing typing game. Everything was so polished, that the only negative things I can say are nitpicks. I suppose the biggest thing for me is that I wish there was a hard mode. Maybe I've just spent too long on computers, but my 130 wpm typing speed crushes the game's scoring system, and I think in a demographic of programmers there's probably a lot of people like me. I was also annoyed that the text you typed didn't always match with the guide until you wrote the whole thing. Either way though, this game was a ton of fun, and I think it was great. Awesome job :)

Derilicity Delivery by Jag 2023-05-03T16:33:12Z

This game looks absolutely gorgeous. Your team deserves like 10 high-fives for pulling this off in the jam period. The music is also beautifully composed, although I think the track that plays when you're not delivering a package feels a bit too high-spirited for a post apocalyptic setting? I think that the gameplay falls a bit short for a couple of reasons. For one, I feel like the world design doesn't contribute very well to the driving gameplay. There's very few straightaways and more often than not I feel like I need to lose all my speed to get somewhere, which isn't fun when the car feels so good to go quickly with. It's hard to tell where you're supposed to go without a minimap, as there are lots of tight streets with only one way in / out. I also got screwed over by alleyways a *lot*. I assumed that I could squeeze through them if my car would fit, so I could waste a little time to get past a row of buildings, but almost all of them had clutter in them that stopped me from going fully through, and I wasted a ton of time backing out of them. I think that allowing the player to drive right past the pickup / drop points instead of slowing down would be more satisfying as well. The game had a nasty habit of forcing me to 180 right after picking up a package, which was frustrating. With such an interesting world and character, I would have loved to see more story / character development. I think that having the character on the screen 24/7 was a missed opportunity for expositioning as you were driving around. Maybe if you pushed her to the corner and had textboxes occasionally run across the bottom of the screen from her? I really enjoyed the aesthetic, and the gameplay had a strong concept that could be pushed further with some tweaks. Good job!

Gullliver by ThorPalsson 2023-05-19T20:01:35Z

This game's vibe is solid as hell. I got shivers when I jumped into the water, and stumbling across the massive ground-eyeballs was gross in all the right ways. Really incredible art direction and implementation, damn. The gameplay felt pretty simple, it seemed like I was just hitting a button every time a new enemy showed up, but I wasn't too concerned with that as most of the time I was just running to every corner of the island looking for cool stuff. I swallowed my fears and ran through the water out of bounds, and I ended up on top of the eyeball cube in the sky, which was a super fun moment. Your environment design is wild, please keep using these skills. Great job!!

Giggle Groove by badcop 2023-05-03T18:17:33Z

This is such a cute concept! I suck so bad at rhythm games haha. I loved how when you mistimed beats the characters would just go 'hmm,' 'huh,' 'err,' 'uh...' Great job!

Mail-In Vengeance by YellowKamel 2023-05-08T03:00:37Z

This is a super cool idea! I like the way the balloon controls. It would be cool if the camera was aimed so you could see a bit more ahead of the card, so that you have more time to react. If I was to make a suggestion, I think it would be cool to be able to choose the type of card, between maybe Attack, Buff, or Heal. Maybe you could even have special cards and have a bit of a deck-building mechanic! That way you can strategize a bit more than just trying to get the highest number to the top. Great game!

DElive by IcyLava 2023-05-19T19:37:33Z

This game feels and looks so smooth! I love minimalist bullet-hells like this. I liked the subtle theming with the enemies coming out of boxes. The attack patterns felt smooth, I felt like I was in control, and the difficulty curve was pretty good given the time it was made in. If I had to complain about one thing, I don't really like how the enemies can fly off of the screen and come back at mach speeds, but that is a matter of taste I think. Super great presentation, and the gameplay was a lot of fun. Great job!

@vykri Great job on beating the game! I definitely made a mistake by not giving you a sample of the phone. I was running out of time and I wasn't able to script the event. All of the other products did start with a correct version so it kind of broke the player's expectation in an unnatural way. If I make a full version of the game, I want to provide an interactive visualization of all the parts of new products, and what they look like when they're correct / incorrect. Thank you so much for your review!!!

@oradimi I'm happy you enjoyed the humor! I had a lot of fun writing the dialogue. Great job for getting to the end, it definitely gets challenging at times. I based the S-rank scores off of how good I could do if I tried my hardest, and then made 50% of that the passing grade, and I definitely think I should've made it a bit easier. It's scary how good you get when you play your own game for 3 days straight. Thank you!

@drainkid thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I will note that partway through the game you start needing to note down two pieces of evidence, and then at the very end you need to note three :) Jim does say to click on the cartridge to see more of it, but I think that in a full version having a dedicated interactive tutorial for that would be helpful. Or just a clearer click target.

Return To Sender by Aurailus 2023-05-03T08:52:32Z

@sudocoffee Thank you! I heard that was confusing for a couple of people. I definitely could have done a better job explaining exactly how the evidence system works / changing the discrepancies to make more sense. I'm glad you like the success / failure messages. I was going to make them show up for longer but about half way through development I decided to transition to quicker paced gameplay because I knew I didn't have time to implement the deeper analytical mechanics I had initially planned, so I had to cut down on transition time. I would like to expand upon this game post jam and make some changes to that.

@cody-holt Thanks!! The reference images are just scaled down versions of the product. I wanted to make them just barely useful but not useful enough to rely on them. I probably could have cleaned up the image a bit to reduce confusion, though. I tried to employ Valve's technique of making tutorials, where the game just kind of is the tutorial, and the plot weaves you through learning all of the game mechanics without too much explicit teaching. I think it turned out okay!

I'll probably make the color changes also include a brightness change so that it's easier to differentiate even if you're colorblind. I'm not certain why the game would have crashed, I haven't seen any instability myself, but if you want to skip back to Christmas you can run `window.localStorage.setItem("current_plot", "8")` in your console, or `window.localStorage.setItem("current_plot", "9")` if you just want to skip straight to the ending scene. RELEASE THE MEAT by NuiN 2023-05-03T16:16:37Z

Nice game! Through the five (four?) levels that the game had, I ended up making a different vehicle every time. For a game that didn't limit what I built at all, that's really impressive! It speaks to the level design. I really liked how the falling level and the end level pushed against your assumptions and forced you to design *for* them. I think that the game misses a little though, with a lack of limitations. If certain levels restricted the type / number of parts you could use, that would be more interesting to me at least. For QOL, I would have liked to be able to restart and modify my vehicle instead of having to start from scratch every time. It would have also been nice to know why I was shipping meat. I've heard an explanation now but when I was playing the game I was sort of confused. Either way, it was a lot of fun! Good job :)

WitchDelivr by alpacalypse 2023-05-05T17:17:24Z

This is a cute little game! The social commentary is amusing, the mechanics are fun. Dogs booped: 4. I think it would have been nice to only show the drop-off points after you get to the pick-up point for a package, as once things got a bit more busy I kept getting distracted by drop-off points I couldn't do anything at yet. The procedurally generated (I think) environments are really cool! Great job!

The Skeleton Delivery Experience by Exilon 2023-05-05T17:14:46Z

I'll admit that I'm not a fan of this genre of game, I think it's too punishing and frustrating. But I'll keep the review to how I feel it works mechanically, as I know it is a genre that people do enjoy. The skeleton's movement feels surprisingly snappy for a game like this, I would have expected more frustrating quirks to moving. The game felt as though it had a lot of straight stretches that just had to be spammed past, which wasn't the most satisfying. The tight corridors when you first go into the ceiling were kind of frustrating as well, as the skeleton would often get near-softlocked in the little one block rises. I like the mood and the art of the game, and I think that it could have been enhanced with music. It serves its purpose as a rage game, I did end up quitting after falling into the fire like five times in a row. I appreciated that there was no lengthy respawn sequence. For its genre, I think this is a solidly built game, so good job!

"I Do Extra Good!" by Flightyfelon 2023-05-03T16:26:11Z

This is a super fun game! I love the choice between getting perfect launches to go horizontal quickly, or boosting as much as possible to gain height. Just being a helpful little robot and watching the world burn as a result of your actions was super satisfying. The difficulty curve felt a little shallow, the impacts of my actions didn't seem to hit until several minutes had passed, but I eventually did die because the mob wouldn't let me land long enough to get a package. I liked the quirky dialogue when you delivered a package. Great job!

Note by Chii 2023-05-19T19:25:59Z

Really simple but calming concept. I really liked how the notes were linked to the background music, it gave it a really pleasing atmosphere. It would have maybe been cool to have analog control over the map rotation, by using the mouse or something. Regardless, this was a quick but enjoyable experience. Good job!

Mailure To Launch by drainkid 2023-05-05T17:35:17Z

This game is hilarious! The levels got notably more challenging as I went through, and I had to start strategizing what packages to throw where to optimally kill all the drones. I initially thought the 3 health system was too punishing, but as I got used to the game I really started to like it. The intro sequence is hilarious, and the conclusion is a perfect punchline. The game did run quite poorly on my GTX 1060, probably around 20 FPS, but even through the lag I had a great time. Thanks for the super fun experience!

Mailure To Launch by drainkid 2023-05-05T18:38:19Z

@drainkid Damn, I guess it really was just intense lighting then! I was also running it on Linux through Proton, so I'm sure that added a bit of overhead as well.

Juggle Mail by kuviman 2023-05-20T00:39:04Z

This game is super cute! It took me a bit to wrap my mind around the mechanics, but once I did I had a lot of fun. Fast mode is wayyyy too much for me. Great job!

Beat Boxes by PonyGirlLuna 2023-05-05T16:55:37Z

I am hilariously bad at this game, I got like -16000 points, but it was a ton of fun! It definitely felt a little bit like Beat Saber. The note arrangement was good, the music was snappy, and flinging the cubes was really satisfying. I will say that the game performed really poorly on my system, but I do have a somewhat dated graphics card so that could just be a me thing. I also found it hard to understand what to do if two notes were going the same direction back to back, I kept accidentally flicking one the other way. I definitely think with more tracks and maybe a few more mechanics (big boxes you have to hold the mouse to the side for maybe?) this could be a full game. Great job!

Papi's Delivery Ops: Cardbark Infiltration by nox282 2023-05-19T19:39:58Z

Such a cute game. Helping a little dog get home by infiltrating a post office, that's a unique concept. I got hit by a glitch in the final room where re-entering it from the left would instantly agro the enemies in there, but I managed to avoid it by kiting them over to the other side of the room before going left, which stopped them from seeing me when I returned. The minimap seems a bit unclear with their view radiuses, it felt like they didn't always match up 1-1. The stealth mechanics were fun, and the levels were laid out neatly. I liked this game a lot. Great job!

Ice Cream Express by Steven Garberg 2023-05-08T03:13:50Z

This game is pretty challenging! Driving around the map is fun, the main ice-cream is solid, but a little bit simple, and the amount that the game expects you to make per day is satisfyingly challenging. I think that more complex main mechanics would be nice, and the music in the background feels a bit tonally dissonant with the difficulty of the game. It lulled me into a sense of security before I totally bombed my first run. Nice job!

Delivering realness: The human simulator by Yeris 2023-05-04T18:42:48Z

This game makes my brain feel wobbly o.o

In all seriousness though, it's such a sweet message, the gameplay is inventive, and the disturbing presentation is pretty hilarious :) I had fun playing through twice to try to max out my human-ness, to fairly limited success. I love how all the changes you make animate in linear time after the level is complete. Great job, you two!

Energy Delivery by Gzalo 2023-05-19T19:22:13Z

I really love the concept here. The game totally thrashed me the first few times I played it, when I realized that the bars on the generators were how much power they were producing, and not a stored power meter, things made a lot more sense. Seems like tripling up power lines between the producers and the destinations is the winning strategy if you have the time to do it. I think the power line decay was a little too quick, and hard to keep up on, and I would have appreciated if there was a buffer time in between a building not having enough power and you losing life. It would also be cool if the different generators had different ranges of outputs they tend to give out. I think with some polishing this game could be even more fun. Congrats!

If I Fits, I Sits by Vykri 2023-05-03T16:41:39Z

I helped the cats, I have fulfilled my purpose. It's so much fun running around, trying to get those little dorks contained before they do more damage. The progressively more absurd cat sprites were a lot of fun, and the whole concept is hilarious! I would have liked to see a slightly steeper difficulty curve and maybe another final level with extreme challenge. Why are my cats so antagonistic? Great game!!

DETOUR by Nozomu57 2023-05-19T19:51:43Z

This. Game. Is. So. GOOD!!! Seriously, please make a full game out of this. The primary mechanic was super inventive and unique, and it lent itself really well to puzzles. I loved the occasional quick action levels where you had to do something that put you in harm's way before an enemy returned to cut off your charging line. Each level had a new and interesting challenge, and my only complaint is that there wasn't more. Top notch presentation, super involved puzzle design, and a really unique gimmick. Amazing job!

Hell'o-Cargo by agudar 2023-05-05T16:48:47Z

This game is wildly good! I don't have a single criticism. The art is beautiful and evokes strong Celeste energy, the music is fantastic, the platforming feels great. I would love to see a full game with this theme. Amazing job!

Bullet Worm by resacaGames 2023-05-05T17:32:13Z

This game is great fun! I enjoyed just swimming around collecting squares, and the fact that the physics gets weightier as you go (which I initially thought was placebo) is very satisfying. I do agree with the other commenters that there should be more tension to having a longer tail. Self collision would be good, and maybe if the tail collides with a black square it cuts the tail to the length of the segment that collided? Great game!

Delivery 23 by Le Goss du Net 2023-05-05T16:52:24Z

This is a neat game! I agree with the other comments that a trajectory line would be ideal, and also a mark on the meter to show your last hit strength maybe. The concept is intriguing, although I think some of the levels play a bit too slowly, particularly when there's ice involved. The physics also feel a bit inconsistent, kicking at really low intensity would sometimes make the package fly across the level. I think that with some refinement, this could be a fun mobile game. Good job!

Easter Panic! by Oradimi 2023-05-03T18:23:04Z

This game is really cute! I really liked the strategy of spending your downtime storing eggs for later. The gameplay got crazy fast. The graphics are clean and nice, and it's a solid experience. Nice job! My only suggestion would be some audio feedback on picking up, putting down, and delivering eggs to the people :)

Dead-End Delivery by RobotChimp 2023-05-03T16:19:54Z

Holy hell, the effects in this game are top notch! From the screen filters to the lighting to the music and the sound effects, everything just comes together for an incredible presentation. The gameplay is fun and hectic, I never feel like I'm in control of my vehicle and I think that's the point, and the timers are strict as hell, which is great for replayability. My only complaint is that reversing feels backwards to my brain, I don't know if it's just me but I expect the directions to be swapped when going backwards, like a real car. Either way, that's a small nitpick that doesn't affect my rating. Great job!

De-Liverance of a God by gord10ahmet 2023-05-04T18:47:59Z

I gamed Zeus by asking him if that hypothetically, if he had a favorite number, maybe one of special magical significance, what might it be? It was fun teasing the AI, I also managed to get Heracles to spit out a bunch of universal concepts, like pi, when I asked him for special numbers. It was a bit too easy to trick the AI into believing what you write to it are literal actions that are occurring. After playing this game, I tried out a few prompts on my own to see if I could reduce that by specifically prefixing player speech (Player says: ...), and I had a decent bit of success.

As far as the game goes, I've been really interested in seeing AI used as NPCs in video games, so I quite enjoyed this project! It was a unique interpretation of the theme, and I had fun just messing around and dorking on the characters. It would be nice if there was a bit more to do than just getting one number, but for a jam game, it was a good bit of fun! I'm excited to see how LLMs can create more convincing video game characters as the technology develops, and that's coming from someone that generally has a fairly negative view on AI. Good job!

U-haul U-surper by Grace Schorno 2023-05-03T16:36:57Z

Damn, it's so hard to keep all the boxes in the truck. I played twice and only ended up with one box both times. I really like the concept, and doing little circles to try to re-adjust your packages is fun! Good job :)

Delivery Boy Express by civmaniac 2023-05-05T17:26:47Z

This game broke my brain for the first while, but once I got a hang of the controls I had a lot of fun! The art is charming, the number of different environments you managed to cram in the timeframe is impressive, and flinging yourself through space is great! Space zombies are an... interesting choice  but they made the gameplay more hectic and intense. This is a super solid game, great job! Oh, and I definitely recommend playing with a controller ;)

Grab N' Dash by kyboon 2023-05-08T03:08:51Z

This game is super addictive! I really enjoyed playing it. The controls are easy to understand but hard to master, the game speeds up and gets really challenging at a solid rate, and it looks and sounds great. Great job!

Rain On Their Parade! by TomasPraestholm 2023-05-03T17:03:49Z

This game is cuteness overload oh my god! The plotlines for the levels were all super charming, I loved the LGBT rep! The art and music are so charming. The gameplay is a ton of fun, it's legitimately challenging to score perfectly, and I like that! It would have been cool to see an online leaderboard to compare my score against others. This game is top tier, incredible job!

Warmazon by Kaish 2023-05-05T17:09:45Z

This is a fun bullet hell! The lines from the generals were funny, and I liked the low-bit aesthetic of the environment. I think the items are a little too difficult to use properly, as they're mostly reactive items to get you out of colliding with a bullet, but if I had the reaction speed, I would have just ran out of the way anyways. More passive / not-time bounded items would probably work better, like a permanent shrink, or a piece of armor that protects you against one extra shot indefinitely. Even a temporary invincibility like the Star from Mario would work, but it would have to have a long enough duration that you felt safe using it. I think that for the time provided, you guys managed to make a very polished and enjoyable experience. Great job!

Constellation Courier by Diego Teran 2023-05-04T18:39:45Z

Hey there devs! I just wanted to let you know I'm going to be playing your game on my [Twitch](https://twitch.tv/Aurailus) in 20 minutes here, if you wanted to be there! I'll edit this comment with my review once I've played it.

Constellation Courier by Diego Teran 2023-05-05T17:40:29Z

I can't say enough about this game. It's beautiful, the characters are all so lovable, the gameplay was super chill and relaxing (bonking into the sun and just chilling there was great). I only wish that I could have gotten Shane to the wedding, but oh well. I was impressed by the branching plotlines, **SPOILER**: ~~although it susses me out a little bit that for the alternate ending Marie just leaves without even telling Jeremy in person~~ **/SPOILER**. This is a top notch game, I just know you're going to score well. Fantastic job!

This game is super vibrant and really fun to play. I loved the online leaderboard. The parallaxing on the buildings felt a bit jittery and gave me a little bit of a headache, but that might be a me thing. This game is super polished! Nice one.

Little Oni by chris1919 2023-05-19T20:06:45Z

I have literally nothing negative to say about this game. It was sooooo well done. The baby throwing mechanic was hilarious and unique, and it made for awesome gameplay. The art and music were incredible, I loved the low-color palette, it made everything pop. Dashing, slashing, and homing in on targets felt so smooth. The celeste inspiration was clear, but this game stands perfectly on its own. I *need* you to make this a full game, *please*. You have a gem here, and it would be an affront to gamers not to expand on it. Incredible job.

CUBE RUNNER by itsBoats 2023-05-20T00:56:44Z

This game looks super super good! I was reverse catfished by the image in the game post, so when I saw the super polished low-poly graphics I was really impressed. The gameplay was a lot of fun, especially the post-jam hardmode, and the world looks really nice. I found the easter egg ;) Great game!!

Don't Slip on the Snail Trail by Walnut 2023-05-03T18:16:01Z

Pretty fun game! I enjoyed the challenge of trying to avoid the same-colored snails. The time limit was incredibly tight. The compass felt a bit weird, like the waypoints weren't quite where they should be? Maybe that was just me though. Good job!

Dirigible Delivery by aevek 2023-05-19T19:18:54Z

This game is so atmospheric!~ I had so much fun just drifting around exploring all of the different locations. What's in the Jam entry is already super impressive, and as I was playing I was just wistfully thinking about how much fun I'd have if the islands were more fleshed out and you could walk around them. Definitely no shade for not implementing that though, what you have in the timeframe is already crazy. Catching the wind was super fun, although it took me a bit to realize I didn't need to angle the sail in the direction that I was going, but the direction that the wind was. When I was far away from any landmarks, it was a bit hard to tell if I was moving and how much, maybe some sort of radar map with a movement vector on it could be cool for that, or a wind trail behind the airship. Either way, this game was great, congratulations on putting something so cool together in such a short time! :)

Rail Blazer by alanxoc3 2023-05-19T20:03:29Z

This game feels really polished and complete. The art and sound design is great, and the gameplay is a lot of fun. I found the $200 goal a bit high for the map size, I ended up just circling my track at the end there, but the game was a ton of fun, and a great experience. Nice job!

LD54 — Limited Space

Tiny Factory by AncientEntity 2023-10-18T19:11:56Z

This is a super fun little game! I had a great time playing, I got to about level 16 before dying because I couldn't tell where the output I was for the new piece. It would be nice if the game highlighted unsatisfied generators / consumers so that you don't lose track of them when the game starts getting more hectic. It would be really fun to play this as like a five-minute high-score game on mobile!

The Giant's Globe by Jvdwijk 2023-10-19T16:44:29Z

This is a fantastic little puzzle platformer! I had a lot of fun playing, the art is cool, the music is soooooo good, and the design of the puzzles is really well done. I enjoyed having to find your abilities each level, it made them all feel really unique and interesting. Great job!!

Feng Shui Struggles by Nozomu57 2023-10-19T16:08:11Z

I love this game! It's such janky fun, the music is boppin, the art is really clean and calming, and the whole atmosphere is perfect. I think that you executed this game perfectly. Short, sweet, and satisfying. I laughed out loud at the solution to the last level :) High scores from me all around. Fantastic job!

Jambulance by NuiN 2023-10-19T17:33:09Z

Great game! I had a lot of fun playing this over and over to get on the leaderboard. I think the course might be a bit too long given the random nature of the gameplay, it's annoying when you're almost a minute in and then you get pelted by a random car and lose everything. But I had a ton of fun, it was great! Awesome job.

Limited Space - Fade to Black by Beric Moeller 2023-10-18T19:35:33Z

I LOVED THIS GAME! Okay yeah the physics were a little janky, the hitboxes were a bit cruel, but this sort of challenging platformer is my THING. I beat all the levels, and even managed to do that glitch you were talking about where you can walljump off of a boost pad (AND i got to normal jump off of a boost pad as well). The game was super well done. The wall mechanic is cool as hell, the little addition that you can walljump off of them adds a whole new dimension to the gameplay. This game is great. Fantastic job!!

Hey all, thank you all for your kind words! I'll reply to each of you individually, but I just wanted to apologize for taking so long to actually look at this page. I had a bunch of exams before and after this competition, and by the time I was done I was *super* burnt out, and I've kind of just avoided Ludum Dare since then. But I'm feeling a lot better now, and I'd like to review at least a few games before the timer runs out, so I'll be doing that now. Thank you!

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T16:12:17Z

@brainles-etertainment thank you! Yeah, I definitely could have explained a bit more, I had very little time to playtest because of the time limit. I actually made all the levels in the last hour.

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T16:13:43Z

@stmate03 Thank you!! I'm glad you liked the dialogue, I had a lot of fun writing it. :) After all this time I still don't know if the timer was actually a good addition. It makes the game more hectic, but the gameplay loop doesn't really allow it to do anything meaningful (since it effectively just makes all your parts go away). I think I'm more happy with it than not overall though.

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T16:18:00Z

@nozomu57 Thank you so much!! I'm not sure if I personally like this one more than my last one, but I definitely am proud of it either way. I just think there was some lack of polish that's stopping me from thinking it's wholly better. Sound definitely factors into that. I agree, I think this game could be something more than a Jam game, I had a lot of fun making it and it felt very extensible while I was putting it all together. I had all sorts of things I wanted to do, including: - Odd phone shapes (flip phone, T shaped phone, etc) - Parts with more placement restrictions (adjacent to a part, directly connected to a part, less than some distance away from a part) - Tighter restrictions on budget, and more parts to work through. - Actually R&Ding new parts outside of the main gameplay loop. - A reviewing system, where during the game different things would be prioritized (headphone jack, screen brightness, etc), and your final score would be influenced by those factors, so you'd have to watch the news to get an idea of what's important (which would hopefully have some humorous dialogue in it as well).

I am definitely tempted to make this more of a thing, I might put a more concerted focus into that if this game scores well (and if I get the motivation). I'll have to wait and see! Thanks again!

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T16:21:29Z

@wook Thank you so much! I was definitely frustrated that I didn't have time for Audio. I ran down to the wire though, time wise. (I had to publish the game in a very buggy state just to get it in for the deadline, and then spend another 15 minutes patching the bugs I created to get it to be playable :skull:)

As for the money aspect, there were initially going to be a lot more parts to force you to make choices as to what is most important given the budget, as well as shifting priorities for reviewers that would influence what you should focus on. Unfortunately I didn't have time to implement those features, which left the budget feeling a little vestigial. I retooled it last minute to act more as an indicator of how well you're doing at getting the maximum score, setting the max budget to the optimal layout for the level, but that wasn't explained super well.

@anciententity Thank you!! Yep, this whole game just uses Preact, which is a web UI framework. It's a kinda cursed strategy, but I'm really fast with the framework, and it worked well for my last jam, so I figured I'd try it again. I think it paid off! It works really well for certain types of games.

@sephowepho Damn, thank you so much for your kind words and comprehensive breakdown. I'm flattered that you like my games so much, it's cool to know that they've had an impact

Definitely some of the mechanics were a bit ill-explained. I kind of assumed people would grasp certain things which weren't that intuitive, in retrospect. Mainly, that the outlined parts could not be moved, and that the charging ports / anything with a blue portion of the sprite had to borders of the phone. Definitely they could have used more explaining, and possibly a dedicated level introducing their finer workings, if I had the time to implement it.

I do think the tutorial section had you link a part through another one, but it was also a wire part, so I get how that could be something that people might not connect to any part being chainable. Just a single line like 'connect the part to any exposed wire, as long as there's a path back to the CPU it'll work just fine!' would have helped with that. I think that I did pretty good with the tutorialization on my last jam, and this time I focused a bit too much on making silly dialogue and not enough on making the dialogue helpful (it's possible to do both, I just have to be better at it :P)

Thank you so so much, though. Hearing these pain points helps me know what I should do better next time / if I continue the making the game. I'm really happy you enjoyed it, and I'll see you next jam!! :sparkles:

@nuin Thank you! Initially, I wanted to have a section when you completed the level where you could see what your horrible creation looked like on the outside, with all the cameras and buttons and fingerprint sensors in weird spots. Unfortunately that didn't make it in, but I feel like the spirit is still there with people thinking about what the phone would look like for themselves.

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T17:44:25Z

@100th-coin Thank you so much! It's really cool to see a complete playthrough from start to finish like this. Very helpful for me to see what the sticking points are. I definitely could have explained the charging port thing explicitly, it seems like a lot of people got stuck there. If I continue this game, I'll definitely be more clear about that sort of thing. Maybe providing a specification booklet or something with more descriptions about how each of the parts work or something. Thanks!!

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T17:46:28Z

@yerkwell Thanks!! I think that it definitely would have helped if the dialogue was skippable on repeat attempts, I didn't have time to implement that in the jam unfortunately. I've definitely received mixed feedback on the timer. I'm leaning slightly towards thinking it improves the game rather than harms it, since it provides a bit more of a feeling of hectic-ness. However, I think it would be better if there were more meaningful consequences to failure. Not in a punishing sense but just to make it different than just "your pieces go back into the drawer and you read the dialogue again." Fodder for post jam updates I suppose!

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T17:47:22Z

@anotherlorena Sounds 🥲 I really wanted to have time for them but I went down to the last minute of the submission window with finishing the levels. Ah well, hope you still enjoyed it!

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T17:49:53Z

@nescre Thank you!! I had a lot of fun creating the assets and dialogue for the game. Definitely a high point in the jam for me. I'm glad that you were able to understand what was going on in the levels, although I definitely think I could have made some things more obvious, even if it was just a hint next attempt if you failed.

I definitely wanted to get sounds in, really badly, but I just ran out of time. Oh well. I managed to get sounds in my previous LD entry, which I think added a lot to the experience. A better rotation control scheme would have been nice, I saw that some people really struggled with it with touch pads. An endless mode would be super cool! But definitely out of the scope of the jam :P

Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Less is Moore by Aurailus 2023-10-14T17:50:59Z

@hawkin Thank you!! I had a lot of fun making the dialogue and text effects :) Yeah, the save system I think is important, as puzzle games can often take a very variable amount of time to complete from person to person. I should probably note somewhere that it does save, as some people might be too scared to check if they're already midway through.

@danjoricey Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, there was no average score computed over the game unfortunately. Berg Jump by jds 2023-10-18T19:14:22Z

This game was a lot of fun! I really liked the art and the music, they were super *chill* (pun intended). I do wish that the game was a bit more consistent with spawning new icebergs, it felt like most of the time I died was because the game just wouldn't give me anywhere else to go, which was a bit frustrating. Nonetheless, I had good time playing! Nice job :)

BrainCell-Limited by Sabrina_Ross 2023-10-18T19:19:15Z

This game is super addicting, despite the relatively straightforward mechanics. I had an infuriatingly great time trying to get through the whole gauntlet, before giving up in the maze room where the door doesn't open for like 30 seconds. As with the other commenters, I also experienced the bullets spawn killing, and occasionally multiplying when I died, which was frustrating. I think with a little more polish this game could be really really fun. Nice job!

Space Ltd. O.D.A. planet defender by Wekslie 2023-10-19T17:59:52Z

I love this game! The core mechanic is super cool, I gasped a little when I realized what I was supposed to do. The bullet patterns and the effects they cause when you block them were a lot of fun to figure out and counteract. The intro sequences with the little descriptions for each enemy were super cute as well. I really like this game, I think it could go far. Fantastic job!

Free Him by Rena 2023-10-18T19:31:33Z

Nice game! The physics feel snappy, the penguin pixel art is adorable, and the wall jumping feels really solid. I was surprised when I realized I didn't have to jump to wall-jump, but I think it's actually a good control scheme, maybe it shouldn't fire when you're grounded, though. Collecting all of the salmon was fun, I like how you get to see an overview of the whole level before you start. I had a lot of fun playing! Great job!

NarrowLabs Rumble by stmate03 2023-10-19T16:11:15Z

I like the unique ideas presented here, the three different health bars are fun to manage, and I like how you can see the types of damage a bot will do based on the colors on their chest. I found the bullets a little hard to see because of how small they were, and my slow projectile speed made me miss a lot of shots. I also found it hard to quickly switch between what things I'm healing while in combat. I think it would be interesting if instead of having the healing reduce the power of bullets all-around, it only reduced the power of the bullets against the colors that you're healing. So if you're healing blue, you do a lot less damage to enemies shooting blue at you. Then you'd have a more active prioritization challenge as opposed to just turning everything off in combat. Either way though, the ideas presented here are strong and it would be really cool to see this game expanded upon. Nice job!

Winds Of Pilgrimage by Medow 2023-10-18T19:23:04Z

This game is so ambitious and cool! It feels like a baby The Witness, which in my opinion is one of the best puzzle games I've played. The puzzle mechanics were interesting, and the open world layout was really cool. I found myself getting lost in some places, particularly the left side of the map which felt pretty empty, and there were also some difficulty jumps that I wasn't sure how to get past. But wandering around, I felt a huge sense of accomplishment every time I completed a new puzzle. I think it would be nice if the symbols were a little clearer on the pads. If the pixelation effect was to the geometry to avoid it jittering when the player moves around, that would probably help a lot with clarity. I didn't end up beating the last puzzle because I got stuck on one on the far right, but I plan to try again soon. Despite my critiques, I think this game is super fun, and I'm really impressed that you got it all working in the timeframe. Fantastic entry, scoring this very highly!!!

Fishpile by mina 2023-10-18T20:22:34Z

Nice, calming, and cute atmosphere! The gameplay is really chill, trying to fit the fish on your boat is a fun mini-game, and the special fish provide a fun challenge to try to collect! I thought the mermaid shop was really cute, with the ships in bottles, ah it's great. This game definitely scratches the tranquil relaxing game niche and it does it great. Nice job!

Trainwreck by Zac Arnold 2023-10-19T17:57:44Z

Super fun game! I love how hard it gets to pack everything fully in if you're not careful at the beginning. The different shapes create more challenges as time goes on, as well. Very nicely done!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Small Problems To Grapple With by Tetracold 2024-10-25T05:46:23Z

Oh my god I love the art style here! The sticker & paper aesthetic is so unique and cool, I can tell a ton of work was put into it. It reminds me of Little Big Planet, I'm getting nostalgia for a game I've never ever played. The mechanics are simple and fun, although I think it's held back by the camera a little. Typically in platformer-esque games, the camera follows ahead of the player rather than behind them to let you see what's coming up. I found myself limited a bunch by simply not being able to see what was ahead of me while I was flinging myself. I also found that the bugs kept stunlocking me, and I wasn't sure if I was able to kill them or not. That said, I had a good 5 minutes playing around with it, I got around 50 points. I was charmed by the screen-space paper effect on the frog, and the music was excellent. Great entry all!

Inside Creatures Out: What is your gaming MBTI? by CatZP 2024-10-22T21:29:02Z

Wow! I'm generally not that much of a fan of survivors-type games, but this one was super inventive and unique!! The art was stylish, the music was great, and the whole experience was very polished and clean. The spin of theming it around a personality test was really cool as well. I didn't really expect it to actually give me a score at the end, so I was pleasantly surprised when it did, and ended up being really accurate! I was super impressed by how many different variations of each creature there were! I didn't really understand *why* they were changing and upgrading as I was playing, my best guess was that the creatures levelled up as you dealt damage with them, but after reading through the post and realizing that they scaled based on your answers, I gained even more respect for your entry. Amazing work all around, I think this project could go far!!

Lucky Lefty Loves Lofty Little Lodges by TheBookSnail 2024-10-25T07:10:00Z

This is cool! Physics puzzles in Jam games are very rare, so it was a nice sight to see. I really liked the music, and the snail was cute as well. Would have been nice to have some sort of pressure in the gameplay loop, like losing if I don't meet a quota or something. Nice game!

Proto Deus by cliva 2024-10-25T05:36:29Z

Wow! The theming of this game is on-point! I'm super impressed with the CRT terminal aesthetic and the pre-rendered(?) 3D graphics. Both super cool for a jam game. I found it a little hard to work around controlling the tank and the little droids, as it felt like getting enemy tanks within range to click on for the droids also made me vulnerable for attack. That said, it was a super cool and shockingly polished experience, especially with all the worldbuilding, that's super cool. Great entry!

Little Chef by DERRIXX 2024-10-25T06:29:14Z

This is a super cute little game! I know rebinding controls is a bit out of scope for most jam games, but I will note that I found it really hard to control on my split keyboard, but I really enjoyed the concept! I thought it was funny that you could just give someone an empty plate of food and go to the next person. I also struggled a bit to find the right ingredients at times. That said, the presentation and music are great, and the core mechanics have a lot of potential. Very cool!!

A Bug's Wife by Aurailus 2024-10-22T20:16:16Z

A Bug's Wife by Aurailus 2024-10-22T21:31:31Z

Lil' Chimeras by EyeofBholden 2024-10-18T23:15:41Z

This is a super cute concept! I enjoyed seeing the different chimaeras, and rerolling until I found the perfect non-mixed up ones. The gameplay has a lot that could have been expanded on, for example a simple drafting mechanic where you can choose some of your hand to discard every time it refreshes. Very nice!

Among The Deep by Langotriel 2024-10-25T06:01:42Z

The voice acting blew me away! At first I was surprised that there were voiced dialogue lines in a sort of retro-art direction game, but the earnestness of it paired with the beautiful music sucked me right in. Definitely a little light on gameplay, but I played through the whole experience to see where it would go. Poor research partner, maybe she shouldn't have been so trigger happy with lasering all the creatures :) Absolutely fantastic presentation, this is super super cool. I could see this expanding into a full atmospheric / horror experience if you wanted to take it further. Great job!

Snail Trivia Race by GameDevTraum 2024-10-25T06:19:05Z

WOWW!!! This art is absolutely GORGEOUS! I love the almost watercolor aesthetic with the pixel art, ya'll employed the palette so well like oh my god, goals. The parallax had so much depth, I loved it! This was the most 3D-like 2D game I've seen in a while. It's a shame you didn't get all the gameplay in, I'm not sure if I was missing something but I couldn't seem to progress past digging up the worm. But wow, this is a beautiful and charming start to a game and I hope you continue working on it!
