Dunno if the webb export is broken but the whole "playing area" just flew up and down, glitching around, making it un-playable :/

kenjimarcio 2024-10-08 00:09

Great game! I had a lot of fun playing it, and also, the sound design and music are really good. The way the music creates more tension with the rising water is really cool!

metriko 2024-10-08 00:13

@nickhellquist We uploaded native builds (for Windows and Linux). Can you give them a try and see if it fixed the issue?

thesmellofoxygen 2024-10-08 00:34

Very cute. I love their noises. Intuitive controls, though the "attract" function is a bit weak. I half expected the mass of flesh to get stronger with more guys, but they get much harder to move instead. Impressive amount of levels and an even difficulty scaling. Very fun.

nickhellquist 2024-10-08 00:35

@MetRiko, tried the windows version, same issue there :/ The screen just flickers, as in like the layer the play frame is on, the background stays solid in place.

erik-tate 2024-10-08 01:03

I might just be bad at this, but it seemed like the left click took a really long time to become strong enough to be useful. I had to stop at the 3rd or 4th level because I couldn't move my little dudes even close to fast enough. The art and sound are both really nice though and the game ran and played well outside of my inability to be very good at it

split82 2024-10-08 21:01

Hello fellow blob game developer! :) It's great to see that we had a few similar ideas, like the moving eyes. Overall, this is a fantastic entry. I loved the audio and the mood you created. Awesome job!

tkap1 2024-10-09 11:00

Very high quality game. I think the main mechanic (left click) could use some "good feel" work. I found it to be too slow

andreadbx 2024-10-09 15:21

Love the game! as i said on stream, it needs a little bit more of "smoothness" in the launching mechanic, and also the difficulty on the later levels is really steep (or maybe i'm just bad lol) great entry guys!

abdul-zakkar 2024-10-10 02:51

Super cool idea and it's obvious a ton of work went into this! I love the visuals, how their eyes follow my cursor, the sound effects are great as well. I had to cheat on the last two levels, I thought it was pretty challenging! But I'm glad the cheat existed so I could see the whole game. I agree with other comments though that the main flinging mechanic took too long to get charged, and I think it should be distance-from-mouse-based rather than time-based. Also, the right click gravity was weak and I didn't find myself using it at all. The gameplay is super cool, and once paired with satisfying mechanics, you got an amazing game on your hands!

monczak 2024-10-10 13:58

@abdul-zakkar Hey, glad to see you enjoyed our game! We actually tweaked the flinging and attracting mechanics in the newest version so they feel better, among other things - did you maybe play the older version, or are the new changes still not quite good enough?

Either way, we really appreciate your feedback <3

garys 2024-10-10 17:14

As others have said, probably takes a bit too long to charge up the flinging mechanic. Also I wasn't really sure of when to use the attract instead of the fling. That said, it's super fun to play, well done.

coatline 2024-10-10 17:24

I really liked the little sounds that the blobs made and they really were a bunch of cuties. I did get frustrated at the end; I think maybe the difficulty is a little much for a game jam game but it's still fun nonetheless. I also really liked how the music would gradually get louder as the water got closer and closer to you, which I think is a really nice touch. Overall, I was impressed by this entry!

kutase 2024-10-10 17:28

Nice physics and graphics, but I couldn't get past the 3rd level. I think you should make it easier. My team also made a puzzle game. Check it out on our page.

bigstrongddoge 2024-10-10 17:49

I tried first on the browser version. The left mouse button felt slow and caused frustration. It was the hardest part of the game, and it seems like the type of game that is not meant to be easy. I was able to get to the second last level before I gave up.

I noticed that you had a newer version with some changes. It felt so much more smoother, even if it seemed like the timer was reduced by a lot! I was finally able to finish the game.

I liked the cute sounds the little blobs made when you shoot them up in the air.

sparklingsushi 2024-10-10 18:23

That was hard : D! Felt world of goo vibe, cool game, really polished, great work!

leorid 2024-10-10 18:44

I feel so stressed out. This could be such a nice game where you fiddle around with those cute little creatures, yet it is a rage game because of the timer. The combination of slow jump, with the raising water that requires you to jump often and perfectly are stress inducing. If this was intended to be a rage game, it's a perfect fit. I played it till the end - the last levels where particularly evil with the weight buttons that require 8 or 10 creatures instead of just 3 or 4.

I don't really know what to rate - you have to tell me what your intention was. Because this is a near perfect rage game that stresses the player out in every way it can - and on the same hand it would be a horrible puzzle game, if that was the intention.

I think there is a certain discrepancy between graphics/audio and gameplay. It doesn't look like the typical rage game, it looks and sounds like a cute puzzle game. And then it hits you with the water and horrible death screams. xD

monczak 2024-10-10 19:53

@leorid Hi, we really appreciate the solid feedback!

We originally meant to create a Jump King clone, but with manipulating multiple creatures instead of a single character. The idea was to make one very tall level, but that turned out to be way too unforgiving, so we settled on a couple levels instead. We noticed, though, that the game resembled a casual game more than we'd have liked, so we wanted to ramp up the difficulty. In the end we got something that's in between a rage game and an arcade platformer with higher difficulty. And yes, the game wasn't meant to be easy from the get-go!

About the blob launch charge time and rising water - the main idea was to force players to decide if they need to sacrifice time for more power and precision. We wanted players to choose whether they should wait for full power or use smaller, less precise hops and have them adjust to the situation. And the contrast between cute, charming visuals and audio, and intense gameplay was intentional - we thought that would make things more interesting.

gm3l 2024-10-10 22:40

All the way to the top, that's some blob as blobby. Easy to pick up, but difficult to master. Very challenging with a nice replayability. I do love the sound they make when you throw them away :smirk_cat: Congratz on the game!

daupoh 2024-10-11 18:18

Awesome game. Sound, graphic, gameplay all set. Reminds me worms by mechanic, but cut the rope by mood) Nice tutorial, difficulty progression, puzzles, chalenges. I really enjoy it, well done, mates!

zomk 2024-10-11 19:20

I am so amazed. This is one of my favourite games this jam. The polish is soo good. I love that you provide optional difficulty levels by providing more optional objectives (the yellow blobs). Perhaps a small criticism would be that I felt the input of the drag motion was too slow, which quickly became stressful with the time pressure. Still, a great entry. Well done!

hexyvexy 2024-10-12 10:31

A great concept and technically impressive. I was a little disappointed with the performance despite this. Some visual polish to have the slime friends mesh better with the environment might have been good.

aweskybear 2024-10-12 11:58

Ooohh, this is hooky! I like (and try to learn from) games in which you have simple and from-the-get-go controls like just the mouse, very nice! I got hooked and went over a few levels! Overall, very very sweet and well fitting together game! Beautiful music, sound mechanics, sweet graphics, clear controls, progression.. love it!

Unfortunately, it seems I cannot pass a given level due to a bug (playing web version; may not be the level itself):

Screenshot 2024-10-12 145318.jpg

Not sure how I got into this state but Restart button is visible at all times on top of next and interestingly clicking it doesn't work, also cannot click Next and only 'R' key works which just resets the level :P

**Quick tip**: add an `N` button to just go to the next level to save this trouble and let keen players see other levels / trust me, they'd appreciate!

Apart from that, if I had to nitpick 1-2 things, recharge could have been awesome faster (probably) but it also makes sense the way it is. Finally, the magnet thing miiiight have been easier to use if it was stronger. GJ : )))

**EDIT** oh wait, I clicked the Restart button and now it disappeared? I am continuing to play :D

coleslaughter 2024-10-13 03:04

[Thanks for submitting your game to stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2273720699?t=03h52m59s)

Absolutely one of my favorites I've played so far!

Great job putting a bunch of polish in all the right places with the blobby shaders, eyeballs following the mouse, goopy SFX, and more!

I think with a little tweaking to the control scheme, it could make for a great mobile game too!

Great job all around!

misaravensoul 2024-10-13 05:49

Blobs were adorable! Would love to see this with many levels on mobile!

kultuk 2024-10-13 07:11

Cute game! The sounds are really a plus.

also, GODOT is alway a win :blue_heart:

wendel-scardua 2024-10-14 20:40

The last level was so tense, I almost thought I wouldn't make it in time (ended up saving 11/10 blobs). Very fun, very polished...

I was going to say that only thing I wish it was there was a way to see your scores across the levels and to be able to replay them (for example, to try getting the missed golden blobs, or even just to beat the previous times), but seeing in the comments that the original goal was to have one single tall level it kinda makes sense to not have that.

ithildin 2024-10-15 21:21

Brilliant! The mechanics are simple, but the game is pretty challenging. Great sound design and music (the chill vibes offer an interesting contrast to the time pressure :grimacing: ), and there are lots of tiny details giving it a really good feel.

You've created a great tribute to WoG that stands out by itself. Congrats, this was an amazing entry!.

scrapmetal 2024-10-17 14:58

This was SO great!!! I loved the way the blobs changed as they stuck to each other. And tossing them around the level was a blast.

I do wish the charge up was a tad faster. (my fps wasn't great on my old PC either, so maybe that was a factor?)... But this had such a nice 'toy' factor. So many amazing details too... and the level transitions were really nice. :ok_hand: The amount of levels and polish you were able to cram in. Wow. This is such a top entry.

metriko 2024-10-17 15:14

@scrapmetal Thank you so much for such positive feedback  I see you really liked our little blobby game haha

Like you noticed.. charging is slow, but it is "by design". We wanted players to manage time and make them decide if they prefer to go with full power and lose some precious time or try smaller jumps instead. Time is a resource here ^^

When it comes to lags.. visuals in this game relies heavily on the GPU shaders so it sometimes doesn’t perform well in the browser. In such case it's worth to try a native build instead. We added warning just in case if more people will have the same issue. Thank you for letting us know about it ^^

scrapmetal 2024-10-17 15:19

@metriko yeah, the browser version was a bit too slow for me... so I opted for the download exe and it was much better. Thanks again for such a great entry!

metriko 2024-10-17 20:22

@nickhellquist From the last time you tried our game we fixed many issues and bugs (including the ones relative to camera work and different screen resolutions). We also significantly improved performance. Can you check out if the game works properly for you now? That would be very helpful :D

nickhellquist 2024-10-17 22:05

It works very well now :D That was a very fun game! Glad you fixed it :)

patbgames 2024-10-18 18:15

Fun, cute, well done and perfectly fit the theme 👍 @MetRiko @Monczak do you know where is the performance bottleneck of the web version? Is it graphics? physics? EDIT: OK, I think I found part of the answer in previous messages, the performance issue seems to be related to shaders, is it the blobs? the water? something else ? It could be a really fun web game without this issue.

metriko 2024-10-18 19:26

@patbgames Thank you for the feedback!

The real problem with the performance is the blob shader. There is a lot of data that is constantly send from CPU to GPU to keep track of each blobs data like position, velocity, looking direction, state, radius etc.

To simplify an explanation.. we are sending in total about 9 arrays of data to this shader (that's a lot). Godot doesn't support structs for uniforms in the shaders so we have to do it that way.

That said I know it's still possible to improve performance a lot.. for example we could calculate visual effects like looking direction inside the shader directly (just by using mouse position) which could already help a little bit. But even if we will improve performance there is still too much data to make it work well on the low-end hardware inside the browser.

That said after optimizations which we already did in previous patches I'm not getting any lags in the browser version either. So there is that too.

imberny 2024-10-18 22:12

Super cool, 5/5! I can't believe I've missed this one (seen your post on reddit). The polish and ambience is insane!

euler-moises 2024-10-21 00:34

I've played some games similar to this one on cell phones. I really like them. I have to admit that I wasn't always able to catch the yellow balls. They're a challenge in themselves.

Congratulations on the game.

deadroach 2024-10-21 02:30

Really nice, great work!

willby 2024-10-21 02:43

I love the sound design so much!!! This is so cute, it looks and feels really nice. There is a lot of really nice polish and the controls feel nice. The golden blobs are a nice extra challenge in time and aim making you think about the risk. I love this.

empyreans 2024-10-22 01:40

Very nice physics-based game. While I did struggled with some levels on stream, I really enjoyed it!

Love the ambience here :)

nbumgardner 2024-10-23 02:40

Challenging to precisely control, yet in a cute way that makes you want to keep trying.

As a goofy idea for stream integration, you could grab a name from chat for writing above each blob so viewers can cheer themselves on.

jackireland 2024-10-25 01:42

great game

tetracold 2024-10-25 03:48

very interesting concept, reminds me a bit of World of Goo, especially with the blob characters. very nice atmosphere, liked the game's overall style

I found it rather challenging to play especially in the later levels. but it's still fun and I felt compelled to keep on trying. I eventually got to a level that proved to be a bit too difficult for me lol. the controls and the physics feel very nice tho I wish the pull was just a bit stronger

good entry, I enjoyed it!

aurailus 2024-10-25 07:48

Waow, this is so much fun!!! Such a great and polished game, I'm super super impressed! I got through most of the levels and then messed around with spawning in a bunch more blobs with I. The graphics, music, and gameplay were super polished. Great job!

dianavi 2024-10-25 08:09

The concept is so cool ! it's very addictive and i love the feeling of movements. The art is cool too (simple but so cute), i love your game !

t90 2024-10-25 17:41

Absurdly great and addictive game. Also quite challenging in a good sense.

ategon 2024-10-25 21:48

I didn't see this during the ratings period, but saw it after results, and had to give it a go because hello fellow blobs! :)

- The presentation is TOP NOTCH. Music, graphics, UI, everything is slick and super well done, congrats for that. - The "awakening" mechanic is fun and cool :) - However the gameplay is an exercise in frustration - there doesn't feel like there's much in my control as a player, playing the game feels like I'm waddling through molasses - and I think that can be attributed entirely to one thing - the mechanic of holding the click to slowly increase the strength of a shot. This makes the game a race to haul as many blobs out of the hole as possible, while not really having any control over the finesse of the throws. If the throw strength were more immediately finessed with click and drag, distance = strength, it wouldn't be a matter of "I can't click and hold fast enough because the strength builds so slow". It would be a matter of working out good angles and good shots. Obviously if you swapped it out directly like I described it would make the game too easy right now, but retweaking the level to allow for shots to be more interesting would be a plus too. - I'm sure there are more mechanics in later levels but I really just didn't enjoy the "haul imprecise things with slow and jerky controls" mechanic. But the game really feels good other than that aspect. Good job!

coleslaughter 2024-10-30 17:53

Just following up to say that this game was way underrated, imo. :open_mouth:

Definitely one of my favorites, with a nice balance of fun and challenging gameplay (especially with the little golden blobs).

Add to that the super satisfying sounds and blobbly visuals, and it all comes together as a winning combination.

I hope y'all have plans to expand on this in the future. Unlike the little blobs, this game's got legs!
