LD45 — Start with nothing

Draconomics by CyberStarLight 2019-10-09T05:46:09Z

The look of this game has definitely drawn people in imo :) Interesting that it basically gets to be as challenging as I want it to be! I wish it kept track of how many gems total the dragon accepted. That way I can have a high score to beat! Amazing work overall.

World Collector by Joe Williamson 2019-10-08T05:24:21Z

This is by far one of the most polished LD games I have ever seen. Amazing job! Two gameplay aspects I would consider changing, one is to make the jump input linger a little longer so the user can activate a jump *slightly before* landing on the ground. The other is to make death less punishing. I was upset to see my tile arrangement disappear, but maybe I'm just complaining :D I can't say how much I enjoyed the art and especially the music. Incredible job on the Compo.

CosmiCraft 🌟 by Random-storykeeper 2019-10-08T04:48:23Z

Wow, the building mechanic is really well done! I would like a little bit more explanation about some things though, like what the green gem things do. Also, some on-screen indication that I'm in edit mode would be really cool. Also I feel like the motion parallax in this game is strange, when I move around, the items on screen are slower than the background, and I feel like it should be the opposite. Also while I'm making suggestions, the enemies should get more powerful after each boss fight. Lastly, the music here is amazing! Some of the best I've heard looking through these games. Well done overall!

Home Sweet Home by karreg 2019-10-09T22:45:13Z

Omg I played till I got $100 which I thought was the cost of the house, I can't read numbers apparently :((( Does anything happen when you buy the house? I wonder if it's even possible to get that much money Anyway, this game is extremely polished and well done! I couldn't put it down, and it masterfully forced me to keep trying new strategies. I knew this game was amazing when the rejection from passerby really got to me :D Excellent work for 72 hours. Gameplay, visuals and music all on point.

Handee by Mr ChocolateSalmon 2019-10-19T19:45:11Z

I like the way that the punch mechanic feels and how the enemies break apart.

This is a good proof of concept but there is no challenge and I think it still needs more to really be a game. Also, I think the game freaks out if I fall over the right edge, and I had to restart the game.

I wish the monster had more health! Good job with the punching mechanic though :)

Trashwars by pestodesign 2019-10-07T20:56:13Z

I gotta say, the appearance of this game really drew me to take a look! It looks beautiful :) Initially I had no idea what the controls were until I realized there was a page for it. Music is great. I first lost to the computer, then beat it in the next game :) I found a good strategy was to spam "sexy" :D and that's where I feel like this game could use some improvement. I did not feel like there was much depth to the strategy, but I also feel like that could be fixed with some balancing. I also wanted to mention, I may be a bit slow after the jam but I didn't realize how the main mechanic worked until the second game! I thought I had to get my boxes all the way to the other side. Overall, well polished game, job well done!

Necros by TwinGhosts 2019-10-12T21:14:47Z

I like the mechanic in this game! It's really cool, seems like it has good strategy potential. I feel like the only level with substantial strategy was the fourth level though, and the rest were pretty easy, the last level was just, which army do you pick? Even still, it was very satisfying seeing my army take over, and I like the look of the game quite a bit. Overall great job!

Bandit Crossing by Magnega 2019-10-19T21:08:59Z

Very impressive that this was completed in such a short time! Love the combination of 2D and 3D art, and the shooting effect feels very satisfying. The difficulty ramps up quick and it has a lot of replay value trying to figure out how to succeed.

Maybe the speed could ramp up just a little slower though :) Overall awesome job!

Overherd by Marcus Otterstrom 2019-10-08T01:22:05Z

I love the simplicity of the game mechanic! The hook is a bit finicky and I kinda wish I didn't have to rotate the screen, but I like how to sheep roll around, I like the music and simple art style. I can see this on Steam with a few dozen levels and some added mechanics :)

Make Profit by Jammin 2019-10-12T21:25:00Z

I like all the drawn art in the game, but it's a stark contrast against the pixel background. Also an underwear counter that told me how many were left would be great! Finally, I think that cat can't catch me even if I don't move :) I know you were pressed for time, and I can tell a lot went into the hand drawn art. Good job!

Light your way out by Suchista 2019-10-19T20:51:32Z

Very nice puzzle game! I really appreciate the good level design here, I feel like that's the first thing to get neglected in a timed game jam. Ramp up in difficulty is great, and everything is displayed very clearly, and controls are simple.

These graphics are very Windows XP-esque, and I feel like there is room for improvement there :) Overall, amazing job!

Basil by Abdul Zakkar 2019-10-08T01:56:55Z

@nisovin thank you! With time a certainly would have :) I would love some suggestions about other options.

Basil by Abdul Zakkar 2019-10-08T05:27:00Z

@joseph-yannessa thank you very much, and I appreciate the suggestions! Raft repair is a really good idea. I also agree that difficulty could come in phases, maybe a *hunger up* or *thirst up* announcement in-game. With the difficulty, I was struggling to balance giving first timers enough time to understand the game, while making it challenging for better players.

Basil by Abdul Zakkar 2019-10-08T05:30:12Z

@mechwarrior99 Thank you! I've noticed some people struggle to get past 6 minutes (including me), while others fly by 10 minutes! It's kinda strange, something to look into :D

Basil by Abdul Zakkar 2019-10-11T16:24:48Z

@marcus-otterstrom Thank you for the feedback! The controls and UI are definitely the weak point of this project, and this helped me learn a lot about how best to make the user interact with a game. Especially from the feedback I have been getting, thanks :)

Basil by Abdul Zakkar 2019-10-13T19:46:52Z

@random-storykeeper Wow that's better than I ever did :D awesome to see people beating the devs! Mine was 6:52 :D

I am a bit weirded out by that fullscreen bug though

We first started building the game thinking it could be a web game, so I locked it at 800x600. Then I realized, being absolutely new to web dev, that I need to have it written in javascript (I wrote in C#). By then it was too late to go to js, and the UI was built for the current screen size (whoops). So I was stuck uploading a small window game that must be downloaded. A lesson learned!

Thanks for the feedback on learning how the game works, it's definitely something I want to improve on as a game dev. Finally, I'm glad you enjoyed the music and mood :)

Aloneland by Kubeec 2019-10-07T22:23:24Z

I will say that I enjoy having minimal information and discovering things, but it was definitely a little too much discovery in this game. If there were more on screen prompts I think this would've been a lot better. For example, if I'm holding a leaf and I walk up to another leaf, the screen should give me a pop up that says "make bed." Although it feels more like a demonstration at the moment, I know this was very crunched for time but you managed to get a lot in! This is a good base for a solid game.

Soul Reap by FlyWolfe 2019-10-12T21:36:56Z

Super clean look of the game, I think the menu UI is intended for a 16:9 ratio monitor so it got funky on my 21:9 but np I agree that the game is very easy until the final boss, and I wish it was all as challenging as the final boss. I do enjoy the progression of my abilities. I feel like because the shooting mechanic goes in a big spread, that I'm supposed to be fighting many small enemies, but I end up aiming on of my many missiles at a single enemy. I tend to favor more targeted shooting mechanics (not spread) because then I have to have more skill to aim properly. I love the music and atmosphere in this game, and I appreciate the inclusion of a win state :) Overall, awesome job!

Cipher by TaqoShaq 2019-10-09T04:49:30Z

Nice game! I know that for a lot of people it was a little hard to understand how the mechanic worked, including myself, but I like your approach of teaching by showing. I think you just haven't found the optimal way of doing that yet :) I love the look as well! And the number of puzzles is astonishing! The music can get a little repetitive though. Overall, amazing job!

Scrap Spaceship by Nisovin 2019-10-07T22:35:41Z

This was so cool!! I was so confused after the first two tries but when I understood how this worked I thought this was such a unique idea. With some polish this could really get somewhere! I really enjoyed it. This only thing I feel it needs is some more explanation in-game. Oh, and the buttons to switch between hull, thruster and turret are 1,2,3, and I kinda wish you just made em buttons (or controlled in both ways) :) Great job!

Ghost Vacuumer by AVSC 2019-10-19T20:39:35Z

The gameplay is really solid here, everything functions well and is pretty fun :) I also like the random map generation.

I like the graphics as well! I will just say I wish there was an indication (animation) of vacuuming. Also I feel the spawning of ghosts should not be right on top of the character at the door.

Clean execution and fun gameplay, good job!

Girl in a Dungeon by Phoenix Fireflower 2019-10-19T20:03:31Z

It was really fun and impressive. The level design and colors of the game were very nice. But there was a bug that caused coins to not appear, and the level had to be restarted. Nothing that broke the game though :)

Overall, good job!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Starship to Lethe by nk_x_x 2020-04-22T23:54:46Z

Wow! For real the best game I've played this jam. I'm very impressed with everything: the atmosphre, music, controls, all of it. Thankfully I have a controller, which made this feel so pleasant to play. The challenge scaled beautifully.

Fly Zone by Kodiqi 2020-04-22T23:22:43Z

When people call this a clone game, are they referring to flappy bird? I felt like it was very much different in the implementation of the controls, and I think it's super unique. I love hard games so this is right up my alley! I like the clean art. It would be interesting to play with the idea of "longer presses mean higher jumps" since it might make things easier, and maybe feel more responsive. Good job!

Zombie Defence by WilloXs 2020-04-22T15:19:00Z

Nice game! It reminds me of Bubble Tanks Tower Defense, which is an old flash game that has the same system of free placement of buildings with pathfinding. I like how the game looks and feels but as you pointed out it may be held back by being unbalanced. I reached a point where the enemy could never reach me because I had so many buildings, and I could never reach the enemy base because there were so many enemies. I also love the look and creativity of all the buildings and animals :)

By The Fire's Light by selavy 2020-04-22T14:28:13Z

I like the straitforwardness of the goal here, I wish it more challenging as well as having a timer so I can see how well I did. Also the game could use more feedback when I throw wood in the fire because I can't tell that I'm throwing it, I just assume it happened when I pressed space. Also, the fire animation and particles look great!

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-21T05:35:08Z

@diego-mg thank you! The idea of respawning the idol at the start is interesting, maybe I'll mess with it post-jam

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-21T20:00:12Z

@a-312 throw the idol on the upper platform, then continue underneath the platform and come back for it from the other side. I hope that makes sense!

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-22T06:54:40Z

@firellon I may have overdone the smooth damp on the movement, I agree that tight controls are best! A trembling animation would be neat as well, something to consider if we flesh this out :)

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-22T06:55:21Z

@llamallove We're honored to be compared with dark souls, I'm a sucker for hard games!

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-22T07:08:05Z

@bklolo I was afraid this would happen... I'm gonna have to fix that soon

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-22T14:15:24Z

@marcelo-zoletti Thank you for the kind feedback! Do you remember which level you managed to escape from?

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-22T15:20:38Z

@marcelo-zoletti Thank you! I'll look to fix these asap :)

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-22T18:39:59Z

@willoxs thank you for the thorough feedback! You hit our two insecurities with this one perfectly :) I made several attempts to fix the jitter that didn't appear in Unity but only in the WebGL version :( And the walk cycles on levels 4 and 6 are indeed cumbersome. May fix post-jam.

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-22T19:18:56Z

@willoxs I'm happy to say I fixed both of these problems now :) I probably looks at a few dozen pages till I solved the jitter problem!

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-23T00:07:40Z

@jvdwijk agreed, that one is brutal >:)

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-23T01:49:22Z

@kodiqi thank you very the awesome feedback! I'll point out the the inability to pick up the idol was due to there being a block above the player's head, and the idol would be in the map if you did pick him up. The solution would be to warn the player that the idol cannot be picked up here, and that you should scoot over a bit and try again. I'm sorry this cost you a run! I should put this warning in soon. Also I want to put in options to change controls. Lastly, I'll link to fast run in a YouTube video soon!

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-23T02:22:43Z

@kodiqi the run is up on this page!

Fairy Savior by pvp 2020-04-21T04:20:40Z

I really like the sprites in this one! It's a cool idea to move around the fairy and have it as a source of mana. My main critique is that it's hard to tell when I'm harming the enemy and I'm not sure if I hit them or I missed. I think this is why I was able to survive the longest by just running away with the fairy. Also I like the controls screen, I just think it should only go away after I confirm I'm done reading it. Super nice graphics for the time given, good job on this.

DataHunter by A_ColtZz 2020-04-22T04:07:23Z

First thing that's striking is the looks, and I love the world you created! Add a few layers of parallax and it'll be top notch. Plus the controls are satisfying, and the enemies are fun to destroy. Wish there was more content! But I think a lot of time and love went into the art :)

Heart on my sleeve by Bisvilla 2020-04-22T04:47:32Z

The concept was cool and I like the little puzzles here and there. It took me a while to figure out all the controls, and I found them very challenging to use at times. I wasn't able to get to the end but I spent a lot of time trying :D the game looks cute and I like the art, I just wish that I could see more easily sometimes.

Critical Freight by Nathan Wiles 2020-04-21T04:33:45Z

Nice game! I really liked the guy talking to me over the radio, plus the graphics are simple yet clean and readable. This may be your intention but I would have loved to be able to move around quicker since the buttons were so far away. Interesting mystery with the creature! I hope I didn't miss the reveal if there was one :D

The Power of The Five Books by Marcelo Zoletti 2020-04-22T05:08:45Z

Nice game! I wish the music loop was longer, but the art is nice and the movement feels good. I wish there was less cooldown on the spells since it made the game slower, and I wanted to see when the cooldown was over for each one since I couldn't tell when the spell would be ready again. Good use of the platforming to get me to use multiple spells at once!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

TANKNAT by icxon 2020-10-08T01:59:58Z

I love this! It's very satisfying to play and the upgrades made it very enjoyable. The effect of going through the loop is very cool.

At It Again by johnbrynte 2020-10-07T23:41:05Z

Once I read the comments and learned that I could kill lizards, the game was pretty fun! Cool idea, would have liked to see more challenging puzzles :)

Stuck in a Loop (station) by erikiene 2020-10-06T18:37:13Z

Super cool idea with the music and it sounds great! I could not get very far and spent a long time on the TV room but could not figure it out. I tried to line up the colors with the numbers, but it seems it was more complex than that. I would also suggest to make the rooms brighter, it was hard to see anything except the lights. Overall cool idea, wish I could have experienced the whole thing. I will definitely try again if you reveal any spoilers to help me beat that room :)

INCORPORATION CORP. by Kilian BAPTENDIER 2020-10-06T18:49:20Z

Awesome mechanic! Fun to mash the space bar and kill zombies. It is pretty easy and could have been fun with a bigger challenge. Also I didn't know that you can hit space again on returning items until I accidentally discovered it. Super fun game with a funny ending.

TALLY MARKS by de3sol 2020-10-06T16:44:48Z

Had to try this after seeing it on stream! Absolutely love the visuals, mood, music, and style. Nice showcase of gameplay mechanics as well.

Countercl0ckwise by Iker Díaz 2020-10-12T01:11:55Z

Cool idea! Pretty challenging :) I found a way to win easily by jumping repeatedly against a wall as it looped around, which allowed me to stick to the wall and never run into trouble, but before I discovered that it was a fun challenge, took some trial and error!

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T00:05:27Z

@glayson thank you! I added the reset button to hopefully prevent soft locks, but looks like I missed a spot. I will change Reset to reset the level.

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T06:46:21Z

@bicheste Thanks you for the super nice feedback :) glad I could get a tricky one in there!

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T16:45:36Z

@nohua Thanks! I put a link to the music from opengameart, thought it fit nice :)

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T19:17:29Z

@ludumup thank you for the useful feedback! You're right, I should have been more wary about leading the player down the wrong path.

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T20:27:31Z

@sertu It's cool see this idea in a few forms! I will definitely check yours out soon :)

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T20:29:55Z

@a333 Glad you liked it! Would definitely love to add more levels and more mechanics - like moving platforms

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-09T01:42:10Z

@johnsensei yes I wish I had more time for sound design! I wanted to add maybe an "underwater" effect to the music during recording, as well as sound effects. But alas Very glad you enjoyed and took the time to play it post-stream!

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-26T05:41:47Z

@codeman1010 I really hope I remembered the correct person (did you stream our game?) if so, you had asked us if we have a twitter, so @adnonymous5 and I just made one! It's @frostberrygames. We would be honored to have you be one of our first followers.

Planetary lunacy - a game about a satellite in space... by Jamie simpson 2020-10-07T21:41:01Z

Cool game! Controls were cool, and the fuel limitation made it a fun challenge. I agree that there may be a lot of learning to do, but I did not mind. Also, for some reason on level 5 I tried imaging the north stars but it was not increasing my percentage. I was able to image stars in the tutorial so I'm not sure why it did not work in level 5. Also I would like an indication of which levels I completed on the level select menu :) Overall very creative and fun to maneuver between planets.

Chicken Leggacy by Magic_mike 2020-10-06T18:41:54Z

Very nice game! The buffer between attacks may have been too long, but overall I loved the art.

X-periment by Nameless Ghoul 2020-10-07T23:45:50Z

Wow you're right we have a very similar game! I should have known this would be a common idea :) well done with the design.

walk. by tutoa 2020-10-12T00:30:50Z

Cute sad little story. Absolutely love the art and the painterly style. Definitely moody as above comments have suggested.

The Ice Man Loopeth by Ramble House Games 2020-10-08T18:22:01Z

Nice work! Loved the intro :) pretty unique game, but would have liked a little something for getting all the ice :tropical_drink:

while(true) by Noah Kuhn 2020-10-07T21:14:05Z

Nice job with this! Super creative idea, and great comment etiquette ;) I will say that the game is very easy, and could become a lot harder if the enemies did not move randomly but rather moved towards the player. Also the code made some pretty cool beats :sunglasses:

LOOPLLET HELL by Bicheste 2020-10-06T17:33:50Z

Awesome music and amazing visuals, this feels very nostalgic :) Loved the feeling of getting upgrades as well! And cool boss ship. There is a good amount of variety and content enemy- and upgrade-wise here, very nice job. I would prefer if most weapons let me hold down the fire button, and it was hard to tell when an enemy would fire (although that made it pleasantly more challenging). Overall amazing job.

Loop by Str0nkyK0ng 2020-10-12T01:02:25Z

Cool interpretation of the theme! My curiosity definitely kept me going for a while  Nice short and sweet concept. Curious to see how this is expanded on.

Clound loop by Glayson 2020-10-06T16:32:53Z

This was definitely tough! I got to a huge open area with no tiles so I assume that was the end, it sent me back to the beginning. The physics are what made it difficult, but the platforming was well thought out. If I were to suggest changes, it would be to make it less slippery, and to make spike hitboxes more forgiving. It felt like luck whether I would hit a spike or not, especially on the long jump. I like the clean simple look and really appreciate the platforming design. The last portion was super fun (The winding falling portion was my worst nightmare XD). Awesome job!

Get Over Yourself by SpawnCampGames 2020-10-07T22:25:03Z

Awesome game all around! I liked the visuals, the ambience, music, controls, etc. The puzzles were super hard and really reminded me of those portal 2 user-made levels. Definitely some inspiration from portal here :) I beat 2/3 puzzles and got super close to beating the last! This game definitely spiked up the difficulty, would have liked a slower introduction. Still, concept is awesome (and yes I see the similarity to my game!)

This House Looks Familiar by CesarGary_ 2020-10-09T00:28:06Z

I have only positive things to say for this game, it definitely takes you through an experience! Everything fit well together, from the sound to the amazing visuals, and even the slow walking pace played into mood. Well done!

Universalis by Hawkin 2020-10-06T18:54:57Z

Fun little sim! Interested to see what the objective game mode would look like. Fun to try to make planets collide :)

Project R.O.O.M by Arad HamidSamiee 2020-10-12T00:44:02Z

Cool concept! Definitely would be cool to see this expanded, the idea of being put back in the same room again and again could feed into some interesting gameplay.

Death Day by Nekopi 2020-10-06T19:15:22Z

Looks really nice and it was fun to play! I think it may have had some bugs with items disappearing after dying, and the hitbox for the pool was too big and doorways were too narrow. The puzzles were fun to figure out, overall good job!

The pain of what never will by kutarta 2020-10-07T21:53:09Z

Hello, good work and cool use of the theme! The music was very nice and the color choices also helped sell each stage. The platforming is solid as well, pushing boxes has some cool potential. Also I wanted to point out that I could not see the "continue" button until I zoomed in my web browser, the UI canvas should be set to scale with the resolution. Nice simple minimalist project.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Descending by khofez 2021-05-18T02:59:53Z

The art here is very well put together with some great post-processing! Love the enemy variety and the attack animation/particles as well :)

Check Port for Moisture by TechnoNugget 2021-05-16T21:56:06Z

Very nice looking game! I think the squid in the second room hit me through the boulder, and the game is definitely challenging given the limited moves. I made it to the 3rd room because those fish are very tricky! Also the boulder interaction possibly could have been made simpler. Overall cool idea and nice graphics.

Depths of Hope by gustavo.christino 2021-05-16T19:10:54Z

Love the look and feel of the game! I did feel like there wasn't much of a goal here, but the sounds and atmosphere are very relaxing.

Go Deeper by Jeffez 2021-05-16T18:51:23Z

The wall jumping mechanic was solid, and the pixel art was nice! Everything worked as I thought it should. I felt that the game should have been brighter and the maze aspect was less enjoyable, but overall nice first game!

All Mine by Abdul Zakkar 2021-05-16T19:42:09Z

@qfeys thank you! The tutorial is definitely the part we hoped to improve most.

All Mine by Abdul Zakkar 2021-05-16T21:53:52Z

@alprog thanks for the honest feedback! I also felt like this mechanic could be taken further, and I agree that the user interface leaves a lot to be desired. Always good to learn a lesson in intuitive controls!

All Mine by Abdul Zakkar 2021-05-18T20:28:18Z

@aurel thank you very much for being patient with this game! It was a hard one to figure out controls for :)

Subterrene by SamarthMP5002 2021-05-16T18:59:41Z

Love the special effects here! I also like the infinite map space. I did feel like it was easy to go on forever, but the gameplay was very satisfying. PS- I played the newest version.

Go to the Abyss by Felipe Felix 2021-05-16T19:20:09Z

Nice solid controls! I liked the enemy mechanics and the player's attack mechanics. Nice variety overall in locations and enemy types, must have taken a lot of work! Also liked the retro style. Also good work on the story! I would only say that the art styles in certain settings seemed to conflict a little. Very nice!

Divine Comedy by skoopidy 2021-05-16T19:36:11Z

I think I made it to the last room with the crystal floor, mace equipped! The game looks awesome and the vibe is great especially with that first voiceover. Combat was a bit fiddly in my opinion, and that wind section was very challenging! Overall very nice.

Volatile Depths by PixelAndy 2021-05-18T02:31:42Z

I love it! The mechanics definitely feel like they have plenty of room to expand. It feels like you spent a long time polishing the feel of the gameplay, and then didn't get too much time to show us what can be done with those crispy mechanics. I hope you do more with this!

Suichu by Staber 2021-05-18T00:46:05Z

I really like the atmosphere and the art you chose for this game! I felt that maybe the character appeared a bit out of place. It was also hard for me to tell what is going to hurt me or not. But the gameplay is simple and to the point, and the audio is nice :)

NAMU by ekun 2021-10-14T02:23:16Z

Nice chill game, good execution of a simple concept! Mood is pleasant and music is nice :)

Doc. Noggin by Mr_Field 2021-10-14T00:45:43Z

Wow, I felt very determined to beat this game! I will definitely have to agree with comments suggesting it's hard to tell where in the floor you'll fall, since it made me feel like I died when it wasn't my fault. I actually really enjoyed the mad dash at the end, although I felt like I had to "break" the ice sliding mechanics to beat one of the levels. Overall fun game, just missing some readability.

CalmR - Rock Skipping Mindfulness by Eli Delventhal 2021-10-19T04:12:25Z

I am the most mindful person to ever live. Great stuff, love the writing in the commentary!

Deep Space Defenders by megalukes 2021-10-19T03:20:26Z

Super cool game! Love the visuals, and it's challenging yet balanced enough to keep me trying again and again :D My only criticism would be that the audio with all the weapons firing can get a bit overwhelming, and I wanna hear some of that great music! Awesome stuff.

Drilbert II Diggeredoo by wheybags 2021-10-14T01:02:57Z

Made it to the 2X WIN! Super nice game. Mechanics are awesome, and you've done a lot to use them to their fullest puzzle-y potential. Very impressive how many thought-provoking levels there are, and I imagine that the "physics" took a lot of time, and possibly dealing with a lot of edge cases. Also love the character and art style overall. And although the music is great, the only feature I would add would be a way to turn music on/off. Great stuff!

ENTROPY by egawag 2021-10-14T02:14:53Z

The music was awesome! The game atmosphere really made it for me. Simple mechanic yet effective and satisfying. Plus, I love that shader on the cubes, it looks really cool! It took me a while to get what was happening at first, and I appreciate how the game handles falling down in a very seamless way.

Space Repair by Abdul Zakkar 2021-10-06T00:02:25Z

@sotaroni thank you very much! Definitely agree with your comparisons to flash games. We definitely learned about time management and scope this time around as well :)

Chunky Supreme by mnursey 2021-10-14T02:03:05Z

Haha the game starts to get fun when there's like hundreds of cubes on screen! I felt like I could go forever, it wasn't a hard game. I feel like it could be harder if the map wasn't so open and had many more buildings where you could get cornered. Reminds me of Call of Duty Zombies a little bit! The FPS mechanics worked really well.

[U]nstable - 235 by GeoBlackrU 2021-10-19T03:53:14Z

Awesome art, mood, and music! I found that game to be pretty challenging and I felt a little lost. The main thing which I would like to offer criticism about is the camera rotating. I was surprised it actually made me a bit nauseous :D Still, the game definitely made me curious to explore and had a cool atmosphere.

that was nice and fun! I wish there was an endless mode, I was enjoying myself :)

Seagull Island | L'île aux Goélands by Seb_degraff 2023-10-02T21:51:08Z

Hey, this is really neat! The art got me interested, and the strategy had me playing over and over. It fit the theme well. I like the little animations and the audio, the atmosphere is great. My only thought is that the game could tell you when it is impossible to continue. Loved it!

Compress(space) by Fahim Faysal 2023-10-03T18:27:41Z

Super cool mechanic! As others have mentioned, it's a big difficult to make an intended fold. It may help to have a "cursor" which locks on to where a fold would start. I also have to try multiple times to unfold, and it may help to just have a single click be used to unfold. Otherwise, I thought the graphics and puzzle design were really nice!

Troglo by Ismael Rodriguez 2023-10-05T17:24:46Z

That was so fun! Very satisfying movement and very nice level design.

Space Trucks by digital bacon 2023-10-03T05:10:42Z

A nice cohesive entry! Easy to understand the mechanics. I will say I did not notice any difficulty scaling, the packages always came after 8.5 seconds. I'm sure it would have been a lot more fun if the difficulty did scale as you intended! The art and music are also nice :)

Guaxinim's Antiques, Rarities & Knick-knacks by ThomasTournoys 2023-10-03T05:50:43Z

Very nice art! I hope I didn't miss anything, but as far as I know, this game is purely about collecting things. I can only guess maybe there was a plan to sell them? Otherwise, beautiful art showcase.

@euix thank you so much! That is very high praise :) I really wish I had more time for music and sfx, instead I dumped hours into making the pipes water animations timing line up… with moderate success

Pipefitter by Abdul Zakkar 2023-10-04T01:34:26Z

@asieke @gobigredfan thank you all! It’s always a risk to go for a mechanic like this because it’s hard to know in advance if you’ll really get the exciting complexity

Pipefitter by Abdul Zakkar 2023-10-04T16:21:20Z

@scribbl-games Thank you so much! Glad you liked :)

Pipefitter by Abdul Zakkar 2023-10-04T16:24:58Z

@gobigredfan Your feedback is invaluable! I did know that the game wouldn't get harder over time, and I do wish I did something about it. Making it more and more likely for spawning pipes to be antagonistic is a nice idea.

Regarding the idea of only destroying 1 pipe- I felt that might make it too difficult from the get-go, based on play testing with some family/friends.

I also considered having non-pipe pieces that simply interfere with gameplay, with higher likelihoods of spawning in the late game.

Lol you made you want to finish this game now! I wish I had more time...

Pipefitter by Abdul Zakkar 2023-10-06T00:29:02Z

@ismael-rodriguez all wonderful suggestions! Currently the game does stagnate quickly once you know what you’re doing, and those ideas would help. Thank you for the feedback!

Hellbarrel by allenski 2023-10-03T05:33:12Z

So nice and juicy and clean. Love it! Rounds don't take long, nice to quickly pick up and play. Some bullet hell in a cage.

Tiny Shelter by rasboy 2023-10-03T18:07:35Z

Amazing art! Sometimes when I click on the cats, I dont pick them up. And as far as I can tell, this is more like a sim than a game, there are no win or lose states or progress, but I can definitely see how it can be expanded. For real though, you are a very talented artist/animator.

Wrecking Jail by Guilloteam 2023-10-03T05:43:25Z

This game felt so complete!! So much work done in all aspects, art, sound, vfx, even leaderboard, you guys are talented and quick! Very nice and unique idea.

Terrain Tactics by Asieke 2023-10-03T05:20:56Z

This was a really cool concept! Super unique. I like the implementation of the theme. I like having to balance clearing tiles on the board vs recruiting, although clearing tiles is often too weak from what I've gathered, and an enemy will become impossible to reach anyway. But the art style is clean and mechanics are well done.

Pixel Piles by Gabriel Chan 2023-10-03T05:28:55Z

Wowwww this is so cool!! I've played a ton of tetris but this was so unique it took me a couple of tries to get the hang of. I got 877 on my second try. Super nice art and such a cool idea. You guys should be proud :)

Ship of Theseus by teafish 2023-10-03T18:01:08Z

This is so cool and smart and polished! Makes me wonder how many unique levels you could make, I can imagine this being much more elaborate! Would be really cool to see if you make it into a full game.

Too Many Carrots in the Kitchen by Bill Marcy 2023-10-07T17:36:27Z

The game concept is really nice! It takes a few tries to get a hang of and have some sort of strategy, I wish there was a way to ease the player into the mechanics. I also think that the recipes should be shown in-game. It's fun and keeps the pressure and makes you think twice about what what you really need :)

cleanrun by Khmhmm 2023-10-03T18:48:07Z

It was fun to have the pressure to see if I could clean the room up in time, but I wish it would tell me how good I did (like how many rubbish I threw out) if I don't win. The art is nice and the game is funny :)

Monster Onslaught: Tiny Realm by Traq Kay 2023-10-03T05:02:40Z

Nice straightforward gameplay! Like the prior comment said, I believe the only things I can do is run around and dash? Everything is cohesive, the assets you have are nice.

Modular by Igor Fam 2023-10-03T19:00:27Z

This game was really nice! The robot was cute and the animations were nice, the inventory is creative. I think it could use some quality of life improvements with the mechanic of the inventory to make things less hectic. Creative idea :)

Iceolation by CaptainPMM 2023-10-02T22:54:03Z

It's a cool game! Nice twist on a classic idea. I love the art, especially the penguin sunglasses. The collectible ice tiles are nice, the water shader is well done. And I found an exploit! If the ice raft gets pushed off-screen to the left, and I hold down the left button, nothing can affect me anymore and I can score infinite points.

Glutton-Free by andypang1010 2023-10-03T05:38:21Z

Cool game! Strongest point is the art, very well done :) nice audio, fun jiggly gameplay. Things can get out of hand quick though, it might be nice if the bacteria shrunk me more. Also nice use of theme!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Tiny Creature Rescue by paulhocker 2024-10-23T04:47:31Z

I got it in 154.7 seconds! I'm very satisfied with that score :) I really like the art style of the game. I think the weak point was the feeling of the platforming, I thought the momentum was difficult to control, and felt finnicky when switching directions mid-air, the momentum totally flips. At first, it was also hard to tell what surfaces were dangerous. Once I got used to these things, this was pretty enjoyable! Well done

Tara by sbeif 2024-10-10T02:32:41Z

Satisfying game! Good length where you showed the different ways the mechanic can stretch into clever puzzles. The controls were nice and simple, this was very easy to pick up! More environmental mechanics post-jam and this could go places :)

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-10T03:26:36Z

@oysterhey Thank you for playing and I'm happy to hear you got that far in the game! I think I know exactly what happened when things stopped spawning. I bet that there were seed piles just off-screen at the bottom edge that needed to be collected in order to kick off the next wave. I wish I had a chance to do something about it before the end of the jam!

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-10T03:34:13Z

@jacobloon wow, good catch lol- I can't believe that slipped through! I did intend for it to cost 150, but I definitely think 50 is more balance so I suppose it worked out.

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:45:26Z

@manabreak Hello, thank you so much for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed!

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:45:41Z

@zype Very happy to hear this game was engaging! I can certainly thank my teammate for the great art :)

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:46:10Z

@ryab Thank you so much! It took us way too long to find something to fit the theme but I think that time was spent well!

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:46:32Z

@laywelin Thank you! You are absolutely right about the quit button, no question about it- that's one area where playtesting would have helped. And I totally agree on setting an upgrade-spending limit which still allows you to send troops after upgrading.

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:46:55Z

@furano Thanks for the comment, glad the tutorial helped! I usually prefer to have the gameplay speak for itself as a tutorial, but I think it made sense here. I agree about the difficulty, but based on my past jams I decide to err on the side of 'easy' rather than 'difficult,' but it could totally use some rebalancing!

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:47:07Z

@paulhocker Very happy you enjoyed! So there is a 4-unit limit per squirrel, but there is no general limit at all :)

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:47:16Z

@jj-cruikshanks Thank you for playing, and I'm very glad you liked it! You're right that the UI got cluttered, our thought was that if the buttons are in the middle, it would be less likely for the buttons to get in the way of trying to click a squirrel, since they can never overlap with the base. But I think you're right that having a side bar is better. Even if I try to click a squirrel by the side bar and fail, at least that squirrel is still far away.

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:47:25Z

@metriko Wow, I'm very grateful for your thorough comment! I wish I could give you multiple likes :) The UI was definitely a big area where things could have been improved. Keybinds (1,2,3,4) are a natural choice for unit switching, and would have worked well. I think when considering targeting seeds vs squirrels, in the interest of simplicity, perhaps most units can preferentially target squirrels when they overlap with seeds, and only the almonds preferentially target seeds when they overlap with squirrels. Lots of options to consider and I'm glad I didn't make a platformer because there were new and interesting challenges with a game like this which I learned a lot from!

King Nut by Abdul Zakkar 2024-10-22T19:47:36Z

@master-age Thank you for the kind comment! I definitely agree with the (1,2,3,4) for unit-switching, would have been a great addition. Alas!

Insecticide Express by Quackqack 2024-10-23T05:03:20Z

Very nice, polished, seamless experience! I love the simplicity of this, the upgrades were integrated directly into the gameplay without a shop that interrupts gameplay, and the difficulty slowly ramped up coinciding with my increased upgrades. I did think it got easy at the end and I let the game end at wave 11. This was a lot of fun, congrats!

G-news by Aune 2024-10-23T04:39:23Z

I felt that the art really made this game! The little bit of story motivating my actions really went a long way as well. This was cute, funny, and well-done and turned a simple concept into a great experience :)

Harvest Hijinks by Hunt 2024-10-10T03:48:01Z

Cool game! Although I did find it pretty challenging, I never seemed to have enough acorns to spend on much! I really like the audio and art style, well done

Forest Fighter 3000 by Zype 2024-10-23T04:19:06Z

Good work! I can see the idea starting to form here, and I think it was going in an interesting direction. I'm very glad you found this jam to be a good learning experience, I encourage you to see where this game can go and progress the idea a bit, before starting something new again one day! That way you get a more full game dev experience :)

Blob, To the Top! by MetRiko 2024-10-10T02:51:11Z

Super cool idea and it's obvious a ton of work went into this! I love the visuals, how their eyes follow my cursor, the sound effects are great as well. I had to cheat on the last two levels, I thought it was pretty challenging! But I'm glad the cheat existed so I could see the whole game. I agree with other comments though that the main flinging mechanic took too long to get charged, and I think it should be distance-from-mouse-based rather than time-based. Also, the right click gravity was weak and I didn't find myself using it at all. The gameplay is super cool, and once paired with satisfying mechanics, you got an amazing game on your hands!

Drawer Sheep by RoyRosta 2024-10-10T03:20:35Z

Very cool concept! I was able to understand the game quickly with your non-intrusive explaining which was done well. I did feel that the difficulty curve started off too steep though. I always feel that puzzle games should start with totally trivial levels that just get you to understand the mechanics. Also, I would have preferred simpler puzzles overall with fewer sheep and smaller maps, so I feel more like I solved it by thinking about it, rather than trying different things each time until it works (which I see is a point made before). I did love the building block style and the cute sheep, and this was clearly programmed well in my opinion!

Quackling Rescue by Laywelin 2024-10-10T02:38:37Z

I love the children's story book look! The gameplay was nice and simple, with some variety added with the flowing water and rotating doors, requiring a bit of thinking/timing. Cute idea and well executed! I thought the recorded sound effects were a nice touch lol

Clocked In by Ryab 2024-10-23T04:29:33Z

Bro this game was awesome hahaha the jokes had me giggling on discord so thanks :))
