A really neat one. I adore the pixel art style. The Start/end screen particles were really cool. Particularly enjoyed the big skeletons and their smashy animations. The music was really well made as well. I can only complain that it wasn't really well visible when my necromancer was taking damage and the controls window at the beggining doesn't scale well into 4k resolution.

twinghosts 2019-10-12 21:04

@tyfus thanks for playing and the feedback :)

I didn't make the music, I wish I did haha. But I'll address the scaling issue ASAP in the new build, I noticed that the death screen also doesnt scale at all. And I'll work on the visual feedback, would you find healthbars annoying to have in a game like this one?

simon-parzer 2019-10-12 21:05

Reminds me a lot of "Infectonator: World Dominator". I like the retro pixel sprites! The huge skeletons are very powerful.

tyfus 2019-10-12 21:07

@twinghosts I think it's just a retro remix of Holst's MARS, or at least reminded me a lot of it. I'm not sure about healthbars as such, I was thinking more about some sort of visual displayed on hit - like the sprite going red for a few frames or something like that

I like the mechanic in this game! It's really cool, seems like it has good strategy potential. I feel like the only level with substantial strategy was the fourth level though, and the rest were pretty easy, the last level was just, which army do you pick? Even still, it was very satisfying seeing my army take over, and I like the look of the game quite a bit. Overall great job!

nobongo 2019-10-13 05:08

Really unique game. I love your take on the theme, and the nostalgia this game brought on was awesome! The game made sense right off the bat which was nice because I could just get into it and have fun. The little bouncing animations were really cute and nice. If you guys expand some more little attack animations would be great, they would really make your huge army feel more lively. Great job!

twinghosts 2019-10-13 09:45

@simon-parzer Wow you're right! That's awesome, I never knew about that game. Thanks for the comment and playing! I feel you, especially in the final mission, I'll have to adjust the balance quite a bit :)

@tyfus Oh interesting, the sprites do that already, even the player. But I'll make it more apparent, add some sound effect to it and maybe some screenshake! Thank you for the feedback

@abdul-zakkar Thanks a lot for playing and the feedback! Yeah sorry about that, most levels were made in a rush near the end of the jam, I didn't have time to playtest them extensively. But I'm glad that you enjoyed it nontheless!

@nobongo Thank you! I'm glad that it at least seems to fit in with the theme, I had my doubts. Haha thanks for the kinds words. It's good to hear that you had fun and liked it! I will surely add some more animations and improve the pathing (it's so bad at the moment).

Hey cool game, I love the mechanic!! And awesome last battle ;)

yohsk13 2019-10-13 17:50

Pixel art is great (and their bouncing animations), and it goes well with the music/theme. The idea is great (lot of potential, like other comments said) and the basic mecanics are here and work :p.

Cool entry :p

Buuut if I had something to say. hum... It was fun to see the undead take over the city, but I felt a bit useless once I pressed that spacebar. While you do have commands to spread out/get the attention of your nearby troups, I felt that it's often better to let your squeletons do their life and just hide :cat: . (but that's maybe because the levels are, like @abdul-zakkar said, for now pretty easy ^^)

kajoseh 2019-10-13 17:52

Great game!

I think the golden knights in the last battle should be less to make the fight fairer, or add more in the other army! Just for more pleasure >:D

bradleyashley 2019-10-13 18:48

This is a great submission that certainly keeps you playing! The discovery of skeleton archers was exciting. I also loved when I would clear a section of town with one mob and be joined by an even greater mob that grew itself fighting nearby. It makes you feel that something is really kicking off.

The carefully placed crowds cause you to properly infiltrate the people before unleashing your wrath if you really want a big mob to start with. This creates a great atmosphere as you stroll into town hooded and cloaked watching the children run happily in the road, thinking "if only they knew". I rate this game ARMAGEDDON/10

You may want to give the player a super short tutorial and introduce them to a few mob types upfront to encourage them to clear levels and progress. There is depth here!

solah 2019-10-13 19:38

Very good game, it was really fun to play, well done!

wekaj 2019-10-15 04:42

Wow, cool game! The sudden change in mood when you unleash your plague upon the masses is great.

kleinzach 2019-10-17 21:58

I really enjoyed this. The indirect combat is really cool, and I like the concept of finding the best position to unleash the curse. I would say that the levels were a little simplistic since it really feels like it could work well as a puzzle game if people patrolled or you had to redirect them to get as many skeletons as possible. Great entry!

itsdanidre 2019-10-18 05:02

Yo! Well polished game, that was rad! The cursed music spooked me the first time though

Those huge minions were terrifying though *slam intensifies*

You deserve wayyyy more ratings on such a good game!! :joy:

Edit

Why'd you remove the music category? Your igm is rad as well, that's what adds to the game itself!

But that's a full 5 stars from me! :thumbsup_tone4:

twinghosts 2019-10-18 16:19

@lonewolfdev thank you!

@yohsk13 Thanks for playing! Yeah I totally get what you mean, the player originally had an auto attack and a heal ability, but I didn't manage to finish it :/ Would be fun to add something like that still possibly! Thanks for taking the time to play and give feedback :)

@kajoseh Haha thank you for playing! The balancing is lacking severly in some levels, I really should make them less powerful (or just remove some)

@bradleyashley Woo thanks for writing such a detailed review! A tutorial would be a great addition, I'm not sure whether I'd continue with this game though, but otherwise the feedback is noted! :D

@solah Thanks!

@wekaj I'm glad you liked it, gotta say that the sudden change took a little while haha

@kleinzach It's great to hear that you enjoyed it! I guess it is some sort of a puzzle/strategy game at its core :P never thought about it that way. Agreed, the levels are not really balanced well, I'd love to tackle that with all the feedback I've gotten! Thanks!

@itsdanidre Haha thanks for lovely review! I'm glad you liked it. I didn't make the music, so I opted out of it :) Thanks for the rating man!

dob 2019-10-19 05:07

I really like the concept and the art style. Music is great too. I wish the combat were a little more clear, so you can tell if your guys are strong enough or not. I did end up with clots of guys stuck on buildings a lot, which I could clear up, but the method to clear them wasn't immediately obvious when I first played. Difficulty ramped up quite quickly, and I often died kind of suddenly with no real indication I was doing badly. It might have been nice if the player could do something more than just shove skeletons around. Neat, original idea, well executed.

hiroboto 2019-10-22 00:56

like the art style that reminds me of the nice games played with my friends in school days! these characters are cute and exquisite, and the atmosphere is great with the music!

bungalow 2019-10-22 06:10

Cute art, great music, intuitive controls, great concept. Awesome job! Best of luck!

carlos-lennon 2019-10-22 17:34

Very cute!

ryjcio 2019-10-23 20:58

At the begining I had troube to figure out what to do, but then... flawless little game :)
