Cool game, made me think on how to get through each level. The animations work great. I would suggest when the idol dies on spikes or something, instead of resetting the level, just respawn the idol at the beginning, no matter where the player is. Also, maybe include a low-volume background music, might find one on opengameart. Still, pretty fun!

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-21 05:35

@diego-mg thank you! The idea of respawning the idol at the start is interesting, maybe I'll mess with it post-jam

giu-zcc 2020-04-21 08:56

Nice graphic and game design, pity that there is no music!

a-312 2020-04-21 09:09

I don't understand how can I pass this level: https://i.imgur.com/n70xAly.png

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-21 20:00

@a-312 throw the idol on the upper platform, then continue underneath the platform and come back for it from the other side. I hope that makes sense!

ncadieux 2020-04-22 06:06

Animations and music were great. I liked chucking the idol around the map haha. Well done.

aj-jones 2020-04-22 06:14

Good controls! Felt responsive and predictable which was great! Nice work!

firellon 2020-04-22 06:17

A nice take on platformer/puzzle mechanic, makes your think for a bit!

The character feels slippery at times, felt into spikes many times :( Perhaps, some trembling animation before falling into the pit could help?

llamallove 2020-04-22 06:37

Very fun. Very hard. Like the dark souls of ludum dare 46. I very much recommend

bklolo 2020-04-22 06:54

I was able to toss the idol off of the level and port myself down into infinity

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-22 06:54

@firellon I may have overdone the smooth damp on the movement, I agree that tight controls are best! A trembling animation would be neat as well, something to consider if we flesh this out :)

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-22 06:55

@llamallove We're honored to be compared with dark souls, I'm a sucker for hard games!

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-22 07:08

@bklolo I was afraid this would happen... I'm gonna have to fix that soon

marcelo-zoletti 2020-04-22 14:04

I really liked the movement of the game and the mechanic to throw around your idol for survive, it has a good amount of levels, the graphics and the music are pretty good, and I founded a away to get out of the level as other people say too. [Screenshot_1.png](///raw/a01/e2/z/32575.png) But I really liked the game, great job!

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-22 14:15

@marcelo-zoletti Thank you for the kind feedback! Do you remember which level you managed to escape from?

marcelo-zoletti 2020-04-22 14:38

@abdul-zakkar I escaped from 2 levels, 5 and 6 if I'm not mistaken

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-22 15:20

@marcelo-zoletti Thank you! I'll look to fix these asap :)

The game is really fun to play. Thats the most important thing for a jam game and you did a great job with it - the throwing mechanic combined with the warp reminds me a bit of celeste's level with the guy in a crystal. Sure it isn't as refined but you didn't have that much time on your hands.

My two complaint are:

-The graphics "jitter" i don't know why but it glitches all the time he walks or jumps.

-The level comfort. The walking cycles of the enemies didn't match the respawn-and-go-again thing i would wish for in such hard games (i had 33 deaths in the end). The time waiting for the enemies to move out of the way adds up.

The audio sounds pretty good though and the different images for the idol were a nice touch too (like when its falling).

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-22 18:39

@willoxs thank you for the thorough feedback! You hit our two insecurities with this one perfectly :) I made several attempts to fix the jitter that didn't appear in Unity but only in the WebGL version :( And the walk cycles on levels 4 and 6 are indeed cumbersome. May fix post-jam.

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-22 19:18

@willoxs I'm happy to say I fixed both of these problems now :) I probably looks at a few dozen pages till I solved the jitter problem!

willoxs 2020-04-22 20:39

Thats good to hear^^

jvdwijk 2020-04-23 00:05

I really liked this, some of the levels were really challenging *cough level six cough* but it was really fun to play through!

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-23 00:07

@jvdwijk agreed, that one is brutal >:)

kodiqi 2020-04-23 01:17

idol1.png Took some time but I finally beat it. Biggest challenge was the second jump on level 6, that almost broke me. The drop on level 8 is a challenge too, a good fit for the final level. Graphics are really good, wish I could make them like this :) The sound was good too but maybe the music became a bit repetitive.

I found the movement and jumping enjoyable. I think the jump was quite generous, so it gave you a lot of movement in the air. The control bindings themselves were a bit awkward for me; it may be a personal thing but if I'm using left and right arrows for moving, I intuitively expect up arrow to jump. For that reason I probably enjoyed the first 4 levels more, as the teleportation required more complicated input. Teleportation is a great mechanic for this game though, definitely added some more layers to the later levels.

Overall, I really liked this. I'd like to see a playthrough of someone better than me to see how fast it can be done.

idol0.png I did find a bug, I couldn't pick up the idol when it was in this spot. So I had to restart (so a restart level key might be handy too).

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-23 01:49

@kodiqi thank you very the awesome feedback! I'll point out the the inability to pick up the idol was due to there being a block above the player's head, and the idol would be in the map if you did pick him up. The solution would be to warn the player that the idol cannot be picked up here, and that you should scoot over a bit and try again. I'm sorry this cost you a run! I should put this warning in soon. Also I want to put in options to change controls. Lastly, I'll link to fast run in a YouTube video soon!

lectvs 2020-04-23 02:14

Fun, crisp mechanics! Graphics were great too. Good stuff all around :)

abdul-zakkar 2020-04-23 02:22

@kodiqi the run is up on this page!

kodiqi 2020-04-23 02:32

@abdul-zakkar Oh cool, you make it look easy :)

room606 2020-04-23 07:00

@abdul-zakkar Hey, nice idea, I like that you succeeded to build up a whole levels set not just a single level. I'm glad that you were good with the scope and managed to complete fully functional fun game.

crisfalcon 2020-04-23 13:02

Fun game, really cool use of the theme, and the controls felt super nice! The teleport mechanic is genius!

erebus 2020-04-23 23:24

The teleporting mechanic was definitely the highlight! Thanks for bringing it by the stream!

adnonymous5 2020-04-24 03:12

@erebus Thanks for playing it, being patient with the grueling parts, and giving honest and helpful critique! XD

adnonymous5 2020-04-24 03:13

@crisfalcon Thank you! That's a really impressive time for a first run! Mine was above 10 minutes

marcmagus 2020-05-10 19:43

Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for us to check out! If you'd like to watch again, the highlight is at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/617113702
