LD45 — Start with nothing

Soulcraft by sawtan 2019-10-19T21:19:46Z

Art's really beautiful, good stuff with that. I might just be bad at the game, but until I played it through a few times, I wasn't able to collect the power ups for my ship's gun. Without those, the game is pretty boring. After getting them one after another though, it's really fun! However, it's not too innovative, pretty much a straight copy of Space Invaders and the dozens of other games made in that format. I'd like to see the variety of enemies and number of them scale up a little more dramatically or a little faster maybe? Sounds are really neat. And again, gorgeous art.

The Library by techsec 2019-10-19T20:30:36Z

Cool attention to populating the room and making a lot of things clickable and having associated text. The text is delivered in a pretty lackluster way, a nicer textbox at the bottom would've been nice for a game in which it serves such a central function. Some animation would be nice, even on just a few objects such as fire, clocks, curtains, etc. It was rather uninteresting to be honest, but I feel like there were a lot of potentially cool rooms that I simply didn't tap because I lost interest before I could get to them. I saw one room that required a 4-digit code, kinda cool. I acknowledge it's hard to populate rooms with a ton of objects, but the art also seemed a little sloppy, even though the color scheme and layout was strong overall.

Basil by Abdul Zakkar 2019-10-08T02:41:40Z

@bocodillo I've never played that before but definitely will now! And the feedback's much appreciated, that seems to be what a lot of people are saying. Definitely would've loved to add more resources to collect, things to build, and even maybe more meters to manage had we had some more time. Alas 😆

Overthought by JakobTheQuizGuy 2019-10-19T21:03:00Z

Really neat game. I feel like you did a good job getting a lot of mileage out of simple, but elegantly made stuff. Visually the background and animations are simple, but the aesthetic is beautiful. Super repetitive, but oddly relaxing at the same time. Unlocking the new symbols was satisfying each time, and I was really invested in reaching the end just to see what the final payoff was, and it did not disappoint. Good stuff!

A Ghost's Tale by Elinks 2019-10-19T20:05:29Z

Art's beautiful. Great environment and atmosphere, the dim feel with the flashlight and the cemetery elements give a very strong mood. Cool mechanic with the white ghosts being stopped by light and black ghosts being stopped by darkness, adds a really unique challenge to the gameplay.

I think the space is a little TOO open though, I wants some walls or routes guiding me to the next story points. After a while, it does start to feel like you're wandering endlessly. Also, dying by a ghost hitting you feels a little lackluster, the immediate respawning feels abrupt and disorienting. A death animation or a brief fade to black would be useful there.

Great stuff overall, really impressive!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Raiders of the Rural Realm by SpiRiTs 2020-04-23T03:00:40Z

Really great stuff! Kinda bare bones mechanically, but three different enemy types with very different behaviors is SUPER impressive. Really polished for a game jam

Starship to Lethe by nk_x_x 2020-04-23T03:38:02Z

I usually delete the exe's after I'm done playing and rating the game, but... I'm definitely hanging on to this one. Just amazing work. Such a simple, but novel (or have I just not played enough games?) mechanic. Visually beautiful, and the music lining up with the projectiles is so neat. It's really fun, and you've done a great a job gradually getting the player introduced and then dialing up the difficulty. Also great job varying up the gameplay a little bit with things like having to block with both shields. Kudos.

Prometheus: The Fire Gods by Storyteller Games 2020-04-22T05:33:07Z

I really do like the premise and think you did a good job designing something based on the theme. However, the way in which the character dies when his fire runs out isn't explained all that well and takes a lot of trial and error to figure out, and the dying feels more random and frustrating than it does a inherent part of the game's mechanics. Still, the idea of having to get a character from point A to point B quickly and precisely is really cool!

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-24T03:12:17Z

@erebus Thanks for playing it, being patient with the grueling parts, and giving honest and helpful critique! XD

Idle Idol by Abdul Zakkar 2020-04-24T03:13:57Z

@crisfalcon Thank you! That's a really impressive time for a first run! Mine was above 10 minutes

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Mr. Cheeks Sweet Dreams by MrTroy 2020-10-08T02:43:03Z

Funnnn! The art was awesome! So professional and cute. The candies and character were drawn so well, and the UI as that bar on the left with all the cob webs and jagged edges - beautiful. The game was mechanically sound for sure, but a little frustrating initially. Finding out how the spikes, purple blocks, green blocks, and cement blocks all functioned differently was quite a trial and error process. Also getting used to the relatively short duration for the attack's active frames and its relatively long cooldown time, that was a little unintuitive. But the concept of endless loop was super cool, and the challenge of collecting all the candies kept me trying over and over till I beat it. Excellent stufF!

Karma Farmer by Plasmonic 2020-10-12T01:30:55Z

Honestly, pretty difficult to understand what's going on, but I also just don't have a ton of experience with these farming simulator types of games. I didn't find it super fun, but I DID find it super calming. This game has a real VIBE to it. I also found it hilarious when my monks just started dropping like flies one after another as if by plague. The music, day-night cycle, and background art were also great, and really gave this game such a tranquil feel!

Beyond Death by Trypants 2020-10-08T02:09:43Z

Really good game! I mainly find myself impressed by the atmosphere. The graphics are pretty minecrafty, but the actual assets are really cool and the gradual decaying of the environment after each respawn is awesome! But navigating with WASD at this camera angle is rough... Great job making a unique game with the theme! Music is also super cool.

Kaiju Kountdown by Johnsensei 2020-10-12T01:13:26Z

Nice! I like the concept, reading through the story premise behind why the game loops was entertaining! Neat explanation and nice tie-in to the theme. The hit box of the monster and the incoming projectiles are a little confusing though. He's so gigantic that it's hard to tell whether an incoming projectile is going to hit you or not, but you get a sense for it after a couple of play-throughs. The game is hard! Using buildings as cover seems to be the pro strat, lol. Mechanically and gameplay-wise a little barebones and repetitive, but the buildings look great, and I like the monster's animations! They are satisfying!

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T23:20:30Z

@mountday Thanks! And yes, haha, those clones's purpose in life is to help you platform XD

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T23:21:23Z

@usenrame Thanks! We wanted to make it look distinct and cool, glad you feel that that effort was successful!

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T23:25:49Z

Thanks @timbeaudet ! We were watching the stream, and appreciate it. I was glad to see during your playthrough the puzzles required some thinking but weren't super frustrating! After overscaling the difficulty of our last Ludum Dare game, we wanted to make sure this one was fun to play. And definitely plan on checking your game out!

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-07T02:34:12Z

@trypants never encountered the issue myself, but you're the second person to have this problem. Thanks for confirming, we'll look into that!

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-07T04:42:57Z

@charlotte-raymond Hey thank you! @abdul-zakkar really fine tuned the mechanics as much as possible in the allotted time frame. That third level is definitely tricky the first run through... but try using clones stacked on other clones

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-12T01:35:24Z

@hakushika Thanks! We definitely prefer those types of games ourselves. Possible to speedrun if you want, but mainly puzzle based, so you're not punished for just chilling while playing it,

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-12T01:36:34Z

@marcmagus That kind of happened by accident, haha! But yeah, it was fascinating seeing some people playtest it, especially seeing how differently the last level was handled from person to person.

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-30T04:11:55Z

@hgcummings Thank you it means a lot! We really wanted to choose a more unique art style than we'd done previously, as well as a mechanic that was compelling even if we didn't get to make a lot of levels. glad that it didn't go unnoticed!

Full Ascend by shaner421 2020-10-19T01:25:34Z

Great job making the rooms feel circular. Felt like I was running around in a hamster wheel! Splash art absolutely beautiful! The animations were also great. Ice was a little too slippery and movement felt a little too loose maybe. Great stuff overall!

Hall of Frame by Dedicave 2020-10-12T00:37:58Z

Great stuff! A really simple game, but very unique idea! I love how the level with the seesaw kind of breaks the fourth wall, and has you go the left of the map to reach the right! Super clever incorporation of the "loop" theme. The character's facial expressions are also hilarious and great. The looping paintings coming to life looks so neat. Mechanically a little barebones, but the experience was still really enjoyable!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Tension by JustinMullin 2021-05-16T21:54:04Z

The sound effects and the edgy looking text really contributed to the cool, unsettling feel of this game. The character looked a lil wonky, but the mechanic was cool and clever. I do think the game's a little too heavy on fall damage, it seemed like very small drops were just murdering me.

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-05-18T03:57:58Z

Phenomenal. The mechanic was honestly way too frustrating. Felt like my character was just flopping helplessly sometimes. That's really my only criticism though. It was like that Bennet Foddy game, but so much more clever in terms of premise and so much nicer to look at. The whole game loop was just so incredibly clever and the art was gorgeous. Such nice color palettes and animation. That dragon? Wow. and the way you got to use the main mechanic in a different way on the boss was so unique. 5 stars in almost every category. So impressive!

Into the abyss by squirrelsoft 2021-05-18T04:03:52Z

Very awesome atmosphere created in this game!

Dr. Deeper by tthe 2021-05-16T19:14:51Z

I love this game conceptually - very interesting take on the theme without it being a stretch. The environment art is cool, but the characters look a little out of place and are hard to see anyways, given their relative scale. The movement is a little janky, it seems like the floor catches my feet pretty often, and the wall jumping feels a little inconsistent. The hazardous objects in the environment are also pretty hard to identify, they don't stand out all that much. I do love the usage of foreground objects, (though some of them are little large) and the way the screen starts turning bright white before you die. Very cool aesthetic ideas at work here.

Under the Surface by Wolfrug 2021-05-18T02:41:34Z

Beautiful. So cool. A dialogue based game is a really neat idea, and so well executed. Simultaneously unsettling and comedic. The atmosphere created by your sound design is so immersive. The background is gorgeously drawn and shaded. The clicking in the bottom right feels a little clunky sometimes, I wish I could click anywhere as opposed to there specifically, I find myself not realizing that there's still some text I have to dismiss before I can resume moving. That's honestly my only criticism. Phenomenal stuff.

All Mine by Abdul Zakkar 2021-05-16T18:04:14Z

Thanks - we agree. It's certainly not the most intuitive game we've made. Ironing out some of those confusing aspects of the gameplay currently! Appreciate you playing patiently till it became enjoyable!

All Mine by Abdul Zakkar 2021-05-16T20:56:40Z

@miklo You're too kind! We appreciate the feedback!

@jk5000 Thank you!!! Lack of intuitiveness is definitely our greatest grievance with this game, but we're happy people can appreciate it despite the initial frustration/confusion.

All Mine by Abdul Zakkar 2021-05-16T22:44:42Z

@ryan-dotsikas Thank you! We've tried to make each of our jam game's art style distinct from the last - we're glad you liked the retro look!

Chicken Robot on Mars by Koroshi 2021-05-18T03:33:45Z

Very cool! The falling sections felt unfair, but I liked the gameloop of falling and fighting, one after the other. The cone of vision in front of your character added a very interesting lighting aspect to the game and made the combat challenging in a cool way. The combat also just looked so neat because the only light sources were your cone of vision and the blips of light around the projectiles whizzing across the screen. Didn't care for the character or environment art, but the lighting and game mechanics more than made up for it!

Death Cult by TentacleMax 2021-05-18T03:08:50Z

A little difficult to understand initially, but very cool. I love the unique character designs. I LOVE the animation on the portal to hell and the enemy attacks. The automated combat can feel a little disengaging, but overall supper cool game! Clearly a lot of effort was put into this!

Subwoofer-Bot by Lucio Ruixo 2021-05-16T18:33:54Z

Awesome game. Really well done. The way the enemy kills are binary - your sound wave is either strong enough to kill or it isn't - adds some strategy and prevents you from just mashing. The different enemy behaviors are cool as well! The green one is way too brutal though. Those guys' projectiles are too damn good at killing you haha. I love the idea of using a downwards soundwave to jump - super creative, and the way the charge of the sound jump dissipates as you bounce off enemies' heads is such a clever behavior. The game only loosely fits the theme, but props on making the first level above ground and the later ones below ground: that was a smart way of at least making me *feel* like I was progressing deeper. Backgrounds, Character designs, and animations are gorgeous. And there are a lot of em too! Really impressive for the short amount of time we had. And the integration of the charging meter into the platform that you're standing on? Genius! It looks so good. Too many good things to say about this game, very few negatives. Awesome job folks.

Deeper And Deeper by QuantumSeagull 2021-05-16T21:23:16Z

Very neat game! I think you did a good job nailing mechanics of the game. Overall it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot to do in the game admittedly, but I really like that it was clear, intuitive, and the controls were responsive. The character, particles for digging, and the gold nuggets looked very nice as well!

Lime Snowfall by Pierce Brooks 2021-05-18T03:27:15Z

I appreciate the level of completion. The controls are very responsive and functional. The art style's a little wonky and the game feels a little empty in terms of visuals and audio, but props on the consistency. I didn't quite get the point of the briefcase, but once again, loved how responsive it was. Very neat premise for the game's story!

WhiteSnow by shumigrin 2021-05-16T20:53:10Z

Frickin NICE WORK. It's hilarious, it's beautifully drawn, it's responsive, it's intuitive. Carrying the gnomes on your back is hilarious. The drill looks nice. The mechanics feel really fun as well!

100 by woahitsjeff 2021-04-27T02:22:47Z

Wow. This is super cool. The little audio bits were unexpected and kept me wanting to go further down! Very unsettling and cool mood with using those bits of dialogue and music. I think the tiles all looked really cool individually, but maybe a little disjointed. I also am a little unsure about why I'm collecting materials. But overall, super cool and made me want to keep playing!

LD49 — Unstable

Strontium Submergence by Lintfordpickle 2021-10-19T03:21:57Z

Amazing amount of visual polish for a jam game. The animations on the propeller of the submarine and that green liquid on it, the bubbles moving through the water, and other animations of that nature, really give this game so much life. The sound was good, and the shooting and moving very responsive. Really simple but effective premise, and executed extremely well. Kudos!

Fission Friends by beardywombat 2021-10-14T02:09:48Z

Really cool game! I love the premise and the art. Controls are a bit difficult, but the presentation is awesome

Not Today by shubart 2021-10-19T03:40:55Z

Best game of the jam. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

UnstaBall by WilloXs 2021-10-14T02:23:29Z

Really cool. The right amount of frustrating. I like the double jump and different behaviors based on color! Clever idea to shake it up a little. The presentation is simple but slick, the background is nice and vibey.

Stars - Where they come from? by Tryus30 2021-10-19T03:06:49Z

Man this art is beautiful. It looks so good

Space Repair by Abdul Zakkar 2021-10-14T02:38:02Z

@ty-victorson 100% agreed, we intended for there to be a health system, the current system is pretty bad

@nobongo What an awesome suggestion, thanks! Having to collect the gears in a timely fashion would add a really cool layer of challenge.

The game is pretty unfinished, we didn't have as much time as we've had for previous jams, but I'm glad you both see the foundations of a potentially good game somewhere in here haha!

Space Repair by Abdul Zakkar 2021-10-19T03:00:12Z

@sparkydoc07 Thank you so much for the thorough comment! we one hundred percent agree with all of that commentary

@mithoskuu Aw man, sorry about that. Appreciate your kind words despite the sub-par experience

Big City Opossum by kenster 2021-10-14T00:30:04Z

It's neat concept, but the lack of animations made it pretty hard to feel a sense of actually interacting with anything. Man I loved the splash art though!

Magic Miner by m_mae 2021-10-19T04:01:47Z

Impressive and whimsical! Cool art and responsive mechanics. Kudos!

Unstable by ks.zealot 2021-10-14T00:19:45Z

Nice game! A very cool premise! The assets look a little default, but hey it's a game jam. The color of the atmosphere and the fire in the distance is a super cool touch, and it feels frantic, as it should!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Fireflies by manabreak 2024-10-23T04:30:22Z

Wow, you made such a cozy, fun game. This game was simple enough that it felt easy and relaxing to play, but varied enough that I never got bored and wanted to keep going. The movement felt drifty and natural for fireflies. The lamplighting mechanic was satisfying. The signs confused me a bit, but I suppose that was part of the puzzle-solving! - it was very satisfying when I realized what I was supposed to do and accessed the new area. Well done!

The Last Swarm Warden by pickens-inc 2024-10-10T02:57:58Z

Love the moody atmosphere, and the voice recordings were actually pretty good! Just overall unique vibe and aesthetic to this game! Well done!

I will say, the game was quite laggy for me, and I had difficulty at first getting the interaction and lighting mechanic to work.

But overall, very unique take, good stuff!

Bee Hold by Defrag 2024-10-10T03:20:51Z

Really well done! This is a very cozy, vibey, pretty game. I enjoy how the movement actually feels a little erratic and "bumbly," very much makes you feel like you're playing as a bee. The gameplay loop is charming, and as random as it is, the typing game keeps things fresh. Love the honeycomb motif throughout the UI.

If I had to complain about something it would be the speed at which it turns nighttime. There doesn't seem to be much warning about nightfall until it actually hits. Next thing I know, I'm way too far from the hive and the screen is turning black on me without any chance to make it back.

Overall though, super cute and fun game, and very well done! Thanks!

Hundreds & Thousands by willianfhs 2024-10-10T02:41:56Z

Fantastic art style, love the color palette and cute drawings! The magnifying glass is a neat idea, and the rumble when you use the hammer is very satisfying.

I will say, the magnifying glass feels a little too tucked away for a UI element that's key to playing the game successfully; I found it hard to both look at the glass to identify if a Sprinkmin was a correct target and then look back in time to catch the next targets. But perhaps that's part of the challenge, idk.

Overall really well done! Adorable game!

Defenders of the Crystal Skull by Imagicaine 2024-10-23T04:44:46Z

I'm always impressed by 3D games done in these jams, and the art style and color palette were vibey and cool! I do feel like placing the skeletons was maybe a little clunky, just felt like there was more clicking and waiting involved than I'd like. Overall, good tower defense game

char chase by oysterhey 2024-10-23T05:12:48Z

What a cute, unique idea! This was really cozy and fun, love the sound effects and absolutely adore the art - looked like a pop-up book. Loved that charming melding of 2D and 3D. Overall, maybe I'd like some more variety of mechanics and objectives, but the sheer amount of polish you put on this game cannot be understated. Extremely well done!

The Pilgrim by Wenyu Bao 2024-10-10T03:51:30Z

I love the intentionally goofy looing main character! He's so endearing and cute. Beautiful drawing and coloring. I will say the controls felt a little too clunky. I know that sometimes that's a deliberate challenge, but it felt very frustrating at some points in this game. Overall, great submission for your first jam!
