Fun game. Love the movement and the art style. You should try to preload your particle effects though. That's what causes the stutter when you break the first wall.
Movement is smooth and the game is beautiful. The math problem feels a little bit out of place though.
This is so cute. I really like the concept and even though it looks simple, the whole Firefly theme and darkness etc. just suits this so well.
Moody! Loved the aesthetic. Other than the particle stutter the other commenter mentioned, I'm really impressed with how smoothly you tuned the controls. Just the right amount of "float". Great job!
Great style! Cute tiny fireflies
This was terrific! I absolutely loved the art style and the music. The mood was immaculate. I thought the math puzzle and the blinking lights puzzle were creative. My only 'complaint' is that I would have loved to see more of this game! Good job!
This game was very cool. Atmospheric and enchanting. The concepts looked cool. The movement was nice, and it played well. I liked the sounds and music too. I was disappointed when it ended so soon! But very cool game.
Beautiful and amazing! The music glitched out and stopped in the room after the math problem, which was sad because I really enjoyed it.
I got stuck in the room right next of the multiplication room. Did not know how to solve that. Maybe I missed some hint or something. When I placed firefly into some cages they turned white and when I inserted another they turned gray, but some turned white at two or three fireflies. I thinked that this was some kind of hint so I was trying different combinations based on that but I was still unsuccessful. I really like the light effects and how the game is polished. Nice work.
@pedryx Try counting how many times the lights flash above the lanterns. :)
Yay! I found all fireflies. That was really cute and relaxing! I almost wish there was no mouse input so I could put my head on my right hand and just play with my left and slowly relax more and more... xD
Loved the visual effect on the "tail" when we are moving around and the cute sound fireflies make.
I feel like your games keep getting better and better! This one wasn't as inventive control-wise as previous two I played, BUT it was the most polished one and the most comfortable/satisfying to play (controls, visuals, everything looks thought out and carefully done)
@kanity Thanks for your kind words! And nice to see you again. :)
I love the ambience! This vibes are on point! I had to come to the comments to figure out how to beat that multiplication puzzle though hehe
Ended up in the math part of the game.
I like how the slowly build up on the usage of lanterns. I like the atmosphere of the game which is coming together nicely thanks to the art, music and sound effects.
ABSOLUTELY 5/5 NICE REALIZATION OF IDEA. GOOD MATCHING WITH THEME. Beautiful sounds and graphics!!!!!
Cutie puzzle game with light exploring. Good work with light, vibe result is awesome!
Nice game, it was pleasant to control the little fireflies, I really liked the particle effect. Great job on the art too!!
The ambiance is so good with the music and darkness. I loved every bit of it. A little shenanigans from my part is taking a bit to realize maths. I thought it was x for 10 and 2 sideways at first since we were primed with roman numerals prior : P
Excellent. Cool atmospheric game with quite original gameplay. I like this.
Loved the floaty feel. Minimal sound effects did their job. Great job coming up with different types of puzzles, was stuck for a bit on the empty signs, thought the blinks were a graphical issue . Anyway was a short brain teaser, felt good.fireflies.png
Beautiful artwork, game is really nice!
A very fun and atmospheric game!
So that was multiplcation with all of your fireflies in play :P initially I tried 1x2. Anyway, good little game! I love this kind of usage of lights! I like the subtle hints and puzzles that care about detail and how much you need to "light" at every spot.
Now I only would've wished this was longer! Haha Maybe my only 2 nitpicks would be 1) the beautiful music stopped and never played again - but *maybe* this is intentional - some games do it for a reason and 2) full screen would have been awesome
Overall, great job and very much in tune with the theme : ))

It's short, fun, with some fun puzzles. Looks good and the music pairs well with it. Nothing to say. This is an excellent one.
Nice little puzzle game with an original concept. Controls work good and the music is nice. 1 x 1 = 1 would technically be correct, though ;)
Such an amazing game! Well done! The graphics and the audio effects truly amazing! I think it's one of the best entries I've seen!
Game is short and sweet and has some fun puzzles. But I especially love the soundtrack for this game, feels my kind of vibe.
Cool game, Loved the concept. Very charming. The SFX was a bit harsh, but the music I liked more! The puzzles were a bit easy, except for the last one which took some trial and error until I figured it out. It was engaging, so I finished it 😄Screenshot Capture - 2024-10-15 - 13-17-48.png
Oh, and the music doesn't loop btw
It's got a nice feel to it. The BGM not looping is an issue though. I couldn't figure out the bit at the end though.
Just as the other comments ! Really good game, it was hella good. The math were kinda out of place because it wasn't logical to think to a math problem (might be cuz I'm dumb tho), but since it was the same iconography it disturbed me that it wasn't just counting the edges/lines. That was for the problems but the mood is awesome wether it's graphics or music ! Well done
Wow! What a cool game and such an interesting concept! The graphics are great, and along with the music, theme, and overall mood, it feels like a well-rounded game. I would have loved to play it in full-screen mode because with itch.io’s white background and the small fireflies, I felt the urge to see it larger. The music doesn’t loop, does it? By the way, what tool did you use to create the soundtrack? It reminds me of songs made in Impulse Tracker. I absolutely love the 80s-inspired bass in the background. This game has a lot of potential, and I really enjoyed the math puzzles. It would be awesome to have more levels because the game is truly great. As always, your games have a solid stamp of quality, and this one doesn’t disappoint. For me, it's a strong entry. Great game!
@milq Thanks so much! Yeah, I probably missed the loop checkbox before releasing and haven't had time to fix that one - so I guess I'll let that one go for now. :)
I wrote the music in Psycle (a tracker like Impulse Tracker, but has modular synths), and then exported the raw tracks to Cakewalk for reverbs, mixing and leveling. I really like the bass sound myself too, it was a happy accident!
I've been fiddling around with the idea of making a full game from this - it would work both on desktops and on mobile, so that's a plus. Just needs pretty much a full graphics overhaul (I personally don't like the pixel art in this one, but that's just the route I took for the compo). I imagine the graphics could be reminiscent of Ghibli films, with parallax layers, and perhaps the gameplay itself would be a combination of just exploring and solving some (physics-based) puzzles.
@manabreak, incredible! Psycle! I composed my first songs with Impulse Tracker, and later I switched to Psycle. In fact, I released an album some time ago on a web platform, I didn't remember the name, where you could upload music, and I posted a record with four or five tracks made entirely in Psycle. I really loved using it, but then I switched to Debian GNU/Linux, and since then, I've only been looking for free Trackers or DAWs. I'm currently working with Ardour, but I find it quite unintuitive, and it's been hard for me to work with.
Now I'm searching for a free Tracker or DAW that allows me to work smoothly on GNU/Linux. I don't need anything as complex as Ardour. As far as I know, Psycle is discontinued software, right? I honestly didn't imagine there were still people using it. Then again, I'm not surprised, because it's such an excellent Tracker. It's great to find people like you who still appreciate it. You've got yourself a new follower!
Wow, you made such a cozy, fun game. This game was simple enough that it felt easy and relaxing to play, but varied enough that I never got bored and wanted to keep going. The movement felt drifty and natural for fireflies. The lamplighting mechanic was satisfying. The signs confused me a bit, but I suppose that was part of the puzzle-solving! - it was very satisfying when I realized what I was supposed to do and accessed the new area. Well done!
@milq I also use Linux as my daily driver, but I still have Windows in dual-boot for music stuff specifically. AFAIK Psycle is "somewhat discontinued"; there has been some attempts to refresh the project, but the last time I tried it was very unstable.
I'll probably use Psycle until it stops working :D It's so intuitive, fits my work flow very well, and the built-in Blitz synth is so versatile that it's the only synth I use nowadays.
