You may need a good pc to play it - i dont doubt that it's the shaderwork but every machine i tested it on (with exception of my main pc) failed to maintain even a barely playable framerate.

paul-maxime 2021-10-05 16:47

I couldn't extract the game, both zip files seem to be corrupted.

Edit: thanks for fixing the download link, the game's pretty nice and I love the sound atmosphere. :D

gerox 2021-10-05 17:09

I can uncompress the files. For both versions, 7-Zip tells me "Unexpected End of data".

willoxs 2021-10-05 20:44

@gerox @paul-maxime

Somehow my anti virus prevented some files from being uploaded. Both versions should (hopefully) work now.

Fun game! Looks good too.

cromo 2021-10-05 23:34

Pretty fun. The audio isn't as bad as you make it out to be; it's nothing earth shattering but the ambience combined with the musical hits on contacting a block make for a nice ambience. If there were one thing I were to change, it would be to make the camera start in a stable location - on the later levels I was constantly restarting and the movement was making me cross-eyed. If the camera started in the position it tries to relax to at the beginning of each stage I think I wouldn't have that problem. Didn't have any performance problems on my downright ancient 660ti.

It's kinda reminiscent of Electroplankton, which I really enjoyed too. Nicely done.

vidim888 2021-10-05 23:42

Played longer than expected. Background a little trippy, sounds are great! Animation of destroying boxes is very well done. Overall completed the whole game and loved it!

lucdeligne 2021-10-05 23:46

Very good game! It's fairly easy to pick up but thanks to all these mechanics you introduce over the levels it also has quite a bit of depth gameplay-wise. I think the audio (especially the sound effects) is very good too. You're too harsh on yourself! :)

(PS: I love the titles you came up with for the later levels)

willoxs 2021-10-06 05:43

@cromo thanks thats really good to know. the point with the camera is also really good - i should probably have done it that way

@lucdeligne thanks too. Im really happy about the names myself 😅. I guess the music isnt so bad if you dont hear it two days straight.

Thanks for playing to the other commenters as well.

triggthediscovery 2021-10-07 01:24

Really good, I liked how puzzle like some of the levels got near the end there, had to fight against my urge to barrel through everything.

python-b5 2021-10-07 01:44

Hey, don't self-deprecate too much - this is great! Feels very polished and I really enjoyed my time with it. Great job! :)

swiney 2021-10-07 01:59

This game looks simple at first, but is actually designed really well. Great work. I had no problems running it and the audio was great.

sam-gorman 2021-10-07 14:08

It ran fine for me!

Awesome job. The visuals are great and the design is solid. I like the variety of different tiles.

I think it could benefit from tighter controls ... it felt very sluggish and slippery, and I felt myself frustrated that I couldn't really change direction mid-air. I do like the momentum concept going on though.

Nice work!

tastiham 2021-10-07 14:20

This one caught me off guard how good it felt to play overall. Really chill, atmospheric game. Loved the sound effects! With some more polish I could see this doing well on mobile.

As for critical feedback, the movement feels a little bit too heavy, some more control would be nice. Also, I didn't really like how open some of the levels were, I think it would be better if every level had a semi-clear solution instead of just being able to do whatever and still clear it.

fre 2021-10-07 23:44

I really liked the visual identity in this one! It's working very well. I managed to clear the first 10 levels before running out of time, it was nice to be able to have a peek at the rest!

On the audio side, it's working quite well, although I see what you mean about the soundtrack. My suggestion here would be to do less in the background track and let the melody come from hitting the blocks. Maybe have some soft drums to give it a bit of rhythm, and pads with low attack if you want a bit of harmony (as opposed to having a lot of sharp sounds already in the background track).

Short notes on the visuals:

- I find your in-game font a bit too small and the contrast a bit too low over the background. - The background changing color is a nice touch, maybe transitions could be a bit slower, or mapped to player actions in some way? (e.g. take the color of the block you hit or just change after a hit) In my mind, this might add a feeling of responsiveness to the environment.

Overall, this was quite fun and challenging, it felt like the idea was clear and fully executed. Well done!

2021-10-08 01:38

Hey again! haha Just played through it and it was awesome! I had a lot of fun, and some serious difficulty with some of the levels. It was fun trying to figure out the best routes, and then try to execute them. Great level design and nice effects as well. Great job!

roboolet 2021-10-08 17:05

What a great game, had a blast going through all the levels. I really don't have any critiscism, just keep up the good work!

hawkin 2021-10-09 02:21

I loved this! One of the few if only puzzle game I've actually wanted to struggle through so far in the jam! I especially liked the difference in the blocks. Everything about the puzzle was satisfying (I would have picked a different base track for the level, like a solid note, but you already mentioned that).

I agree that overall it felt really polished!

mig-moog 2021-10-09 02:53

This is great, it's very inventive and always keeps you on your toes, making sure you gotta coordinate the ball and manage the acceleration perfectly. My only gripe with this game is its audio, I think the music works against the sound effects, as they sound out of pitch with each other. A bonus also would've been if the sounds of hitting the blocks were somehow in rhythm with the music, rather than a ding throwing off the track.

willoxs 2021-10-09 11:05

Thanks everybody for the now 20 ratings!

@tastiham @sam-gorman I played around with the feel of the controls a lot before making the levels. I wanted a sort of semi-low gravity feel and the floaty controls were fitting for that. I can see why one would prefer tighter controls but i liked these a bit more (but thanks for the honesty).

@mig-moog @hawkin I would have changed the music if i had thought of it longer. Maybe dropping out of audio and using a free but fitting track would have been better for the game.

@fre Hey i saw you somewhere else before. You really write well thought out comments - thank you! I like the background suggestion i'll keep that in mind for another time (may come in handy next LD). The font size isnt scaled for different monitor sizes. So text is small on big screens and even leaves the window on small screens.

toomblercazz 2021-10-12 12:20

I really enjoyed this! Fun to control, and a nice set of mechanics. I couldn't quite beat all the levels but those I did I had fun with. I think I had the most fun when I was casually bouncing my way along, but I also appreciate the puzzley elements you bring in as the game progresses.

I like the visuals, and the sounds were pretty good although I turned off the music.

crotonyl-alcohol 2021-10-12 14:31

The game looks fantastic! The graphics is simple but amazing! Really a good game!

unagiv 2021-10-12 18:18

My favorite game by far at this moment Oo All is good in this game. i will recommand it to my mate right now :) Good job to you <3

honey-pony 2021-10-13 00:05

This game has a lot going for it. The visual style and the basic platforming concept (disappearing platforms with various abilities) are both just really solid and work really well together.

On the music: it seems to me like the notes that the game generates algorithmically don't really come from one unified scale...? I think if you just generated random notes from a single pentatonic scale every time some action called for a note, you might get a better result.

The later levels are really difficult, which I think is mostly fine... I especially did have a pretty good time beating level 15. But level 13 annoys me, as it seems extremely precise to get enough momentum to reach either the portal or the blue block after hitting the red block. I did eventually manage to beat it after I realized I sort of needed to hit the red block while moving vertically...?

On that front I think the main improvement would just be to make the route in each level extremely obvious and relatively easy to execute. I don't think having to manipulate your velocity incoming to the red block is a well-broadcasted technique to the player, and so it should be left out of levels until the game teaches it somehow. (Or maybe I'm completely wrong about what I need to do, which I think would also communicate my point here... )

But, I did manage to power through, and I am ultimately glad that the game had a couple harder levels. The last level especially was fun to route, as I got to figure out which ways I would be able to successfully exit the portal, and then I could plan around that. It was good.

Overall, this is probably the best platformer I've played yet this Ludum Dare--it was extremely strong in terms of gameplay concepts and in terms of aesthetic design.

zookatron 2021-10-14 01:19

Very cool game, I love the glowy atmosphere and the gentle bongs of hitting the squares. The game play was fun and easy to pick up, really good job balancing the difficulty, each level felt challenging without being overwhelming! The music was pretty repetitive after a while but not too bad.

adnonymous5 2021-10-14 02:23

Really cool. The right amount of frustrating. I like the double jump and different behaviors based on color! Clever idea to shake it up a little. The presentation is simple but slick, the background is nice and vibey.

joror 2021-10-16 12:20

Real neat game! Simple premise, then escalating with new things every step. I must admit that I only got to about level 11ish when my skills started to fail me. Graphics are simple, but have nice effects, sounds is nice. Well done!

kuro 2021-10-19 08:00

Dayum. I was asking myself how did I wrong you by level 13, or what reason did you have to do this to me  I actually ragequit in the end  Awesome game, one of the best I played this LD. Very good job!
