LD49 — Unstable

Back Alley Pharmacy by Gosera 2021-10-05T21:23:58Z

I was surprised at how polished this game looked on first glance, but quickly realized that the described mechanics aren't actually in the game.

However, I do like the underlying idea and think this could be made into something really cool like a mix between Potion Craft and Papers, Please.

Unstable Fuel Mixture by squirrelsoft 2021-10-05T17:27:28Z

Could be a fun little puzzle game, but even with the instructions it's very hard to actually figure out if you're doing things correctly or not. The purges don't seem to work half of the time, the colored fuel target lines are barely visible, and there's no indicator as to what the siren actually means (I assume it just signals the explosion of the rocket).

It's a good effort tho, the graphics are coherent, the transitions are smooth and most things work as intended. With a little bugfixing and tweaking this could be a fun puzzler.

UnstaBall by WilloXs 2021-10-07T14:20:32Z

This one caught me off guard how good it felt to play overall. Really chill, atmospheric game. Loved the sound effects! With some more polish I could see this doing well on mobile.

As for critical feedback, the movement feels a little bit too heavy, some more control would be nice. Also, I didn't really like how open some of the levels were, I think it would be better if every level had a semi-clear solution instead of just being able to do whatever and still clear it.

Nuclear Faith by jvolonte 2021-10-06T20:12:44Z

Loved it, very cool idea and extremely polished. I figured everything out rather quickly, but it could still need a bit more of an actual introduction. The manual alone is slightly too much without context in the beginning. That aside, one of the best entries I've played.

Stone Tower by GreatVV 2021-10-06T19:04:34Z

Could be a fun game, but the controls are very frustrating. I'm not even sure if I figured them out correctly because I can't even beat the first level. Some indicators or instructions how to rotate and move the stones on the different axes would be nice.

Akameis by BJakubowski 2021-10-06T19:37:29Z

Pretty cool, but also a bit frustrating. I didn't really get the point of the hammer, would be nice if it actually dealt damage to the enemy in front of you instead of just destroying the floor. Other than that good job on graphics and audio.

MELTDOWN PIZZERIA by Magnanix 2021-10-05T19:07:47Z

Basically just Overcooked if it had a needy reactor. Nothing original, but very well executed and cute graphics.

Unstable Ground by BuzzyBee 2021-10-05T17:50:20Z

Cute precision platformer. The first big level was a bit annoying without checkpoints. Could've just made the jump challenges separate levels if they're not connected anyway.

Other than that, good job overall. Nice graphics and audio, very clean and consistent. Nothing special or innovative, but fun nonetheless.

Wobbly Pagoda by Ramble House Games 2021-10-05T15:49:49Z

Movement would be a lot less clunky if the jump height was based on how long the jump button is held. Also, the background is hard to distinguish from the foreground in some areas, you might want to adjust the colors. Other than that quite a fun little platformer. Especially good job on the music! Quite the banger and very fitting.

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-05T21:55:44Z

This game is crazy fun. Hard to believe this was made in Compo. Amazing job!

Also, I beat every map in under 4 seconds :v: speedrun strats are strong :sunglasses:

*edit with improved times (addicting game lol)

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-05T22:15:42Z

@slimmerburger The last level was actually fairly simple, just well timed dashes and tight slams on each platform. The real tricky one was the sub 3 seconds time on level 9, you can skip the entire level by immediately slamming twice and aiming through the last platform at the peak of the jump

Breaker of stability by BorisFromMurmansk 2021-10-05T19:57:07Z

Honestly not that bad. The intro cinematic was very well done, but a little bit long for a jam game. Clearly the time constraint left a lot to be desired but at least everything works as expected and the idea of the game is very clear, so good job on that. The fact that drag select and all the RTS mechanics just worked intuitively is also a plus.

You probably know most of the flaws yourself, so the only things I'll point out is that I had a hard time figuring out what to do, mostly because the peasants were pretty hard to see. I initially thought the monsters were soldiers and the soldiers were peasants. So making the peasants more visible would've already helped with clarity.

All in all a valiant attempt.

Last Breath by Pious 2021-10-06T19:22:28Z

Amazing pixel art and great audio. Could be something like darkest dungeon with some depth on the gameplay. Would definitely benefit from random attacks on the enemy with some kind of indicator what he's gonna do next, so the player can actually make tactical decisions.

Space Jalopy by SageMade 2021-10-05T16:23:01Z

The "Click here to play in browser" link goes to the wrong game.

Space Jalopy by SageMade 2021-10-05T16:58:50Z

So after finally realizing that I have to move the bot in the bottom center of the screen, I have to say the idea for this game is really cool and surprisingly in-depth and complex for a jam game. I especially love how the mechanics get a final burst of power when they overload.

Unfortunately the controls as they are currently feel very disconnected, because you can't really keep flying the ship properly while moving the bot. This could be an amazing game with some polish if you figure out a control scheme that doesn't interrupt the game flow as much. Alternatively, if you're feeling really ambitious, you could even turn this into an asynchronous coop experience, where one player controls the ship and the other keeps fixing the issues with some kind of minigames (among us?).

The game has very high potential and I hope it gets some love and attention.

Wob the (Wobbly) Builder by korfi 2021-10-05T14:06:15Z

Cool little physics game. It would be nice see the current block in the feed, because there's no way to tell if you're currently holding a foundation block or not. Also, the mute audio button stops working after starting the game and returning to the menu.

Race Against REM by OffDutyExtractors 2021-10-05T16:18:38Z

Camera is a bit too shaky in the air, other than that fun little minigame.

MindScape by David price 2021-10-05T21:03:23Z

I mean... It's a finished game if nothing else, so good job on that.

As for feedback, the shooting SFX is very jarring, at least adjust the volume a little. And SteamVR keeps opening when running the game, which you can avoid by disabling the SteamVR plugin in unreal.

Frequency by svemir 2021-10-07T14:29:54Z

Simple but really unique interpretation of the theme. The time you have to match the frequency is a bit tight, I think you should start with slower attacks and ramp up the speed over time. That way the player also has time to figure out what matching the frequency actually does, which is pretty unclear at the start. Really cool minigame, good job!

Escape from the Volcano! by MaxBro 2021-10-05T18:53:16Z

Basically just an endless runner, but a good job nonetheless. Everything works as intended, the graphics are consistent and there even is a score / distance counter.

However, the game is way too easy. You can quite literally play it blind by just holding W and alternating A and D. The obstacles should at least kill the player on collision imo.

Also, you should package the build in a separate download or at least give download instructions, because not everyone is familiar with GitHub.

Astounded by J. H. Jaskeran 2021-10-06T20:43:29Z

I really liked the atmosphere created through the graphics and audio, but I also can't be bothered to finish the game when I have to restart the entire game from missing one jump. Could've been a really enjoyable story-driven experience with slightly better movement and less pitfalls.

Very annoying Pong by sinusms 2021-10-05T14:16:49Z

Basically just pong with a little twist, but well executed. I really like the graphics, simple and consistent. Controls could be more intuitive imo. Like left / right shift for teleport and space / control for deflect or something like that.

@greatvv @agent-peterson @bjakubowski @juanrod707 @rendow @quinn-mohamed @magnanix

Thank you all for the great feedback!

I have addressed some of the issues you brought up. All balls should now stay inside the play area and the sensitivity and cue speed are more consistent :)

Instabilliards by TastiHam 2021-10-07T01:11:15Z

@borisfrommurmansk I just realized that I added a bug that makes the crystals unbreakable with the last update. Oops! Should be fixed now, thanks for you feedback!

Instabilliards by TastiHam 2021-10-10T10:44:40Z

@lintfordpickle @figueroass27 @david-price Thank you all for the feedback! I probably should've just put in some free chill music at least since I opted out of the audio rating anyway. I'll keep it in mind for next time :D

@david-price Real life you say? Maybe I could try to make a VR version haha

My beloved uranium by basalapka 2021-10-05T20:41:14Z

Just a reminder that you're allowed to fix critical bugs. It would be nice to know if you're working on a fix or if we should rate the game in the current broken state.

You're on top of the classic sorting order at the time of this comment so I'm pretty sure there's lots of people waiting to rate this but can't because it's not working and nobody knows if there will be a fix.

For the time being, great art and theme.
