wow vocel neat, laggy voice acting good. O i have to die to win... thats not super well done if in the cutscene the corpse remained i feel like that would teach the thing better. Dying is anoying as the distance to walk is far to far.

Cool Game, i really like how the environment changes when you die, but sometimes the performance isn't the best (idk if its just me).
This game is absolutely great. The graphics are great and the gameplay is really perfect for it.
If I was to give one piece of feedback - perhaps an explanation of controls at the start. That said, it took me all of 10 seconds to realize my game controller would work and I couldn't jump, and was right into the gameplay. This is one game I'll actually play several times just for fun.
Cool game. I really enjoyed the environment changes, music and opening animation. I noticed the music stops when you pick up the totems and I was getting some performance issues.
I liked the sounds and music. I would have liked to have a volume control since the music was a bit loud. I kept wishing for a jump button, and a mouse look so I could turn the screen and see where I was going. Otherwise it works pretty good. There was some lag and stuttering during the main intro.
Very impressive visuals! The death animations were great touches, the game felt very cohesive, and I loved the environment changes as you died more. An ending would be nice, but then again, it means that the game is, literally, stuck in a loop. Thanks for sharing it on stream with us!

The graphics are absolutely incredible. Great job!
Impressive work guys. The idea of walking over your own decaying corpse is kind of unsettling and contrasts with the cheery atmosphere, but the mechanic is unique and fits the theme well
@skleembof Thanks for the comment. Indeed the contrast was intentional. The more you die, the less cheery the atmosphere becomes. :) Thanks for playing!

The level of polish on this game is mind boggling! I loved a lot of it! The environment, mood, graphics, the amazing cutscenes. Although I feel like the character is a bit too slow, and the camera angle can obscure some traps. Fantastic game tho!

Easily one of the best entries I played so far in terms of graphics! Looks really good and polished! Solid entry with good gameplay and character/level design! Hope I can produce such a high quality product in future as well!
Awesome work! Really enjoyed myself on this one!
Great job! Would LOVE to play more - I dare to make more :)
I love using your deaths as a way progress.

Enough lives to brute force it, but also enough paths to get through by a little exploring. Good job on that!
The voxel art in this game was immaculate! You nailed the exploration of the island, too. Also, I like that most of the later deaths were largely unnecessary, so there wasn't TOO much back tracking. Good work!
Amazing voxel art, love the animations on the main character, especially when the hat falls off during the death animation

Pretty darn cool. Reminds me of Toads Adventure.
This entry is so pretty and polished. Down to the details like the dude fixing his hat during the wake up animation and the environment changes. I'm amazed something of this quality could be put out in such a small amount of time.
Very high quality! The voxel art, animations, how the level changed over time. Loved it! Fantastic work - you should all be very proud!

I like a lot of the overall feel of the game. There's some similarities to Zelda. I also liked a lot of death mechanic. One thing that I was hoping for was a way to control camera angle. But all in all great work!

This is really impressive for such a short amount of time. The idea is well executed and it plays great. The little feedback that I do have is that the first time I died to the spikes I had no idea what was happening, quickly found out what it does and why but there was still the initial shock so you might want to foreshadow that more. For the rest great job.

Damn the artwork animations gameplay everything is superb <3 Loved the voice over too , awesome game guys 10/10
@antiandi Thanks for the feedback! We have updated the build since, which gives better performance and feel. There is always a downloadable version (Windows) on the itch.io website, that may give better result :)
How the heck did you make this in three days?! Very fun.
@kyle-spence Thank you for bringing that up! We had the audio, but forgot to link it somehow 😅. The current version has music when picking the totem and better performance!
Loved the art style, it's not every day you see a voxel game with such a charming atmosphere. Great job!

Super cool game. The distance at the end was a bit much, especially when I had to die to progress and it wasn't just my mistake. Otherwise a great game. The voice over was one of my favorite parts!
Wow the environment and world building in this game is fantastic, really well done! The mechanics are really cool too, I like the way you need to die in some situations to progress! I think that the level design could have been a bit more forgiving in terms of difficulty over time. That first area with the shooting spike was a gateway that needed to be passed every time you wanted to get any further in the game, and navigating some of those spike when you couldn't really see them from the camera angle sometimes felt unfair when they hit you. Still though this is a great submission, great work!
This game is fantastic, it is solid and the i like the death mechanic, there's some fps slow down while you play, specially when you are looking the whole island, the music and voice acting is something amazing. The world looks beautiful with tiny voxel details, i think fixing this lag problem would eb a plus, but still i enjoy it. Fantastic job on this one
The graphics and animations are great. The world is well crafted and makes you want to explore, even when dying as much as I have XD
Your cubic design is very interesting. I also liked the balance in the environmental models. congratulations
Really nice mechanic, and the changing world art is fantastic. Had a nice "whoa, what is happening here" moment. Awesome.
visuals are very good. atmosphere is bright and has some indiana jones vibes here. good job :)
Super cute, love the changing visuals! After you get 3 totems, it seemed like the world just restarted...did I lose the game or is that the end? I don't think I hit all 12 sacrifices because I didn't see that red world that is in your screenshots. Great game though!
Awesome visuals, I had to download the exe as the webGL was really slow. My favorite part was the environment changing as I spent more lives.

The environment and the animations are great.
Soundtrack is amazing, with it changing with the environment it really makes the player feel a change as the game progresses and that something sinister is approaching.

2020-10-06 14:43
A lot of things about it are really good but the main mechanic isn't used very well imo. Using your corpse to advance can be interesting but in practice it just makes you repeat what you already did a bunch of times, no skill or learning involved, just repeating the same thing again
The Voxel style and the music are really great. I enjoyed the gameplay but after the second tome I got a little confused with the cube, took it on a journey to the lake at the top, flicked it over the invisible dome and then found out you can walk on it. To be honest, that made it even better.

Just a great game. Good graphics, music, animation, story. How did you make it in 72 hours? But, it was a bit to move around especially around the spike near the spawn, is it just me?. Overall, the most under rated game ever. Great job!

This is a very cool game! The art style is funny, and most of all the gameplay mechanics is smart. Dying as a purpose to continue the level is really intelligent. Great job to you all, you can be proud of this creation!

Really enjoyed the graphics, wouldve loved to be able to rotate the camera. Did not enjoy the gameplay - too repetitive for me.
Love the graphics, dying to help your progress is great, although you have to travel far to get to where you were BUT I personally don't mind that. nice animations. :V:

Love your changing world, and the simplicity of the core mechanics here - great looking game too, such a huge space! Really well done
Really impressive! Beautiful voxel art, with the landscape taking on multiple colors. Nice camera, and I like that you have little cutscenes. It was a bit confusing at first, I didn't realize I could use my dead body to cross the river and spikes. Perhaps that's my fault. But overall very good!

Very impressive visuals, especially the many details that change the more one dies. The controls are a bit fiddely at times, but quickly enough to get used to =)
WOW! voxels here looks amazing  how many hours of work are in this game for your team? also i love the pink(ish) ground

Nice, interesting art style. It was pretty frustrating but I might be just bad at it. The world looks really cool!
This is absolutely gorgeous! I love how this game looks. Day/night change is amazing. Very interesting idea to use your bodies as a solution to a level. Animations are amazing. Very impressive and I can't believe that you made this game in such a short period of time. 5/5
Stunning game,cool pov
Some part are really hard but just because of the camera. The first dart throwing at the end you can go away without dying avoiding the floor trap but that require you to go close to the wall and touching it kills you. If it was not with angled camera it would be WAAAAAY nicer and that make dying more than once to that trap frustrating as you did something harder and are not rewarded quite the oposite.

this is a really good jam game! I enjoyed the world you've built and how it changes colors sometimes. Although sometimes I really wanted to be able to turn the camera around or just get a different angle, because I wasn't able to see some things (maybe that was intentional), and I didn't understand what was the purpose of some things - like the stone cube and the panels on the floor (but maybe those were traps too).

2020-10-06 18:07
Oh wow, that was amazing ! Really gorgeous game, with a good little story, a working camera for both cutscenes and gameplay, a really nice sound design and consistent beautiful music !
The death mechanics works pretty well with the level design and of course, the environment changing throughout death is a great idea ! Really makes the deaths count !
The audio is definitely the best part of the game, congrats !
(On a side note, there's a tiny bug if you go straight to the door after the intro, the character just throw is arm in the air three times and the game restarts)
Awesome job, well done for everyone in the team. I'd say sometimes the camera doesn't help and it makes difficult to see any traps, but that's it.
Very interesting choices of design, same as @codeman1010 really enjoyed the fact that you could use your deaths as a way to progress and I would have loved to see more examples of it. The level design is a little basic and once I had finished the game once, I didn't really want to do it again especially because there are no checkpoints.
So I ended up dying over and over again to see if there was another ending. I thought that to cheat the loop you had to die instead of finding the totems. In the end, I saw graphics were changing after death and it was really satisfying to watch. Really good mood, graphics and sound!
@garet Wow, thanks for your kind words and that little tip. We got rid of that sneaky bug! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, I thought this game looked good at the start. Then the world started changing with each death and my mind was blown. Great concept, and you guys nailed the implementation!
One of, if not the best looking game I've seen on this jam, so incredible to see what teams can do in such a short amount of time
Really cool art style and great animations.
I wish there were some way of skipping the intro on the second go.
One thing though: on 4K it seems the UI doesn't scale, you might want to select the scale with screen size option in unity. Was pretty hard for me to read the intro text.
Again: really impressive to create all this in such a short amount of time, good job :)

Legendary! Re-use path with your body - nice mechanic. Very well game overall!
i cannot say anything, full score for you and bow from me <3
Loved everything about it. The only thing if I'm being critical is I didn't understand what the box on the button did probably since I figured I was supposed to move it. I'm guessing it had something to do with the rain over the idol? Other than that picky note, the game was so well polished and fun to play. Awesome entry! Even the camera movement was so awesome and cinematic!
amazing game. I loved the art style, the music, sfx and environment changes. The idea is not that original, but fits the theme very well. Good job!

This is an insanely polished entry. How even?!?! :100: The cutscenes, the atmosphere, even how the camera pulls back to reveal more of key areas are really nice. The visual are spot on and incredibly detailed.
A Jam entry like this shows me just how valuable a level designer is in making a game world spring to life. This has so much love and oozes style.
Good! ----- - :medal: best entry I have played so far - this is a REAL GAME. - :medal: lovely take on the theme, with simple game mechanics but some thinking involved - :medal: the world (gradually?) seems to grow darker the more you die, that was amazing - :medal: the amount of assets that was created in just this jam is amazing! 5 stars in graphics - :medal: the little world is really nice and detailed - :medal: waterfalls! - :medal: beautiful soundtrack, voiceover, all important events have sounds
Better? ------ - :heavy_plus_sign: you could make the experience even more pleasant by giving slightly more elasticity to the camera follow - :heavy_plus_sign: sometimes the camera can't see an important thing, it's part of the mechanics but ... the feels. - :heavy_plus_sign: sounds near the arrows and flame throwers would add to the immersion. - :heavy_plus_sign: a single ambient waterfall audio source would take the players on an even deeper journey. - :heavy_plus_sign: there are two game binaries in that build, keep those folders clean :v_tone3:
Overall the most impressive game jam entry I have played in a while. You folks really know your trade, and I must tip my hat to you!

Wow ! Voice acting and cutscenes ! The music and sounds effects blend very well and cool to listen to ! The voxel style is cool and well done. It's a polished game.
However there are some downsides... : The level design lack some ideas, I wish I could control the camera and... that game make me think about "Death is not the end" not "Stuck in a loop"... It's a bit out of subject for me
But you have skills to make games, and I hope to see more of your team's work in the future !
The art is excellent! Especially how the environment changes if you keep dying. Well Done!

This is awesome, i love the art style!
It's nice to see some voxel art done like that. The game is interesting, I thought about this game mechanics but I took an other way. It's impressive to see all the animations and this level of polish for a game made in such little time. I like the mood and how it changes along the play. Well done.
Great Job with your entry!!! I love the graphics and sound!!! WOW I did not expect a entry with this level of details!! Really Nice!!!
Very cool game! I like the graphics and how the level changes when you diy.
Great visuals and animation, albeit with performance issues. The premise of the game is nice, but I felt like there could have been better focus on the puzzles. So much could be done with the death mechanic but I was able to win with only three or so deaths.
Overall, this game is highly polished and beautiful, but I felt like a lot more could have been done for the gameplay.

Interesting concept and beautifully made game. Initially I thought "no way could anyone have made this over the weekend" and I'm very impressed that you did! The vocals and sound effects were entertaining and well done. Having to use the "loops" to create bridges and block traps for you to cross was a clever way to fit in the theme. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this game! Great work!

2020-10-06 23:05
That was breathtaking. Awesome entry, with gorgeous graphics, a super cool idea (using your own corpse to get through traps is so clever), easy to play but enough difficulty. The camera is well adjusted, it has voices, it works on browers, what more to ask? I'm super impressed!

Even if it lags on web it was doable cool game
Wow great job! I liked how the colors changed on death, and the art and animations were awesome. The forced perspective did make some traps a bit sneaky though. I thought it was really clever how the player's death can serve to both allow you to progress, and also stop you from dying to the same spike trap again even if it is not on the critical path.
Outstanding work!

@lanalux Thank you! Had fun watching you play!
Like I mentioned in the stream- you could add footsteps to the animation cycle to ensure that a step plays as the character steps. That being said- you already did a great job with the sfx and this isnt a necessary change.
The OST is absolutely superb! I definitely think I could listen to this as a background album while working on projects or just as a nice, chill, music experience.
Gameplay loop is great- you definitely implemented the LOOP mechanics quite well- forcing the player to think about some of their actions. As you saw on the stream, I even let myself fall prey to 'thinking death was the end' even though I had just learned your lesson. Great job here!
I did like this work- and will definitely keep an eye out for your future projects.

What a great entry! I managed to finish it after 7 deaths. The best part of it was the music that set the mood and the detail on how the world changes depending on how many times you died. I was surprised to find out you were still in a loop even after finishing the game.
Graphics are really appealing and charming, and although the performance is a bit shoddy in areas, the game definitely flows with charm, and the environments changing over time is a wonderful aesthetic feature!
Beautiful game, nice job!
Really enjoyed the graphics and music! If I could tweak one thing, it'd be to let the camera float some more on the vertical so that every time you go up stairs it doesn't step change with the player - its a bit jarring. Other than that, great work!
Just gorgeous!
Awesome game! Good job. Just need more levels now!

Pretty cool voxel graphics. On my Mac, the gameplay was a little glitchy, but I really dig the concept overall. The environment changes are a really nice touch.
Ps: I gathered the three yellow thingies and still didn't get to open the door. And you might've left a glitchy collider that can make the character walk on air on the lava part. And the stone cube puzzle didn't work for me.

Basically perfect! Well done!
Nice concept, this was cute!
Quite liked this. It's a bit slower than I originally expected, but it's actually a pretty great time once you get readjusted. For a game jam, this seems pretty ambitious, at least on the art and sound front, and I can easily see how you could expand this into a bigger game.
Graphics are great. Controls are perfectly simple, I love them. The concept is good, and I like that you can use your bodies to get past obstacles that previously killed you (unless I'm wrong, you NEED to do that at least a couple times to win?)
@shaolin-dave Hey! You're right, there is a minimum of 3 death to complete the game. The reason is that there is an environment change every 3 deaths and so anyone that completes the game perfectly can see at least one environment change!
trypants
2020-10-07 05:29
@shaolin-dave Exactly you NEED to die to progress. Glad you loved it!
Amazing work. From the subtleties of the death counter at the altar or the little tip of the hat, to the world changing as you die or skeletons that are left from your previous runs. The use of your deaths as a mechanic was a welcome one and audio set the mood nicely. Fantastic job!

Great game, Great graphics. Only issues: 1) Camera angle is too low. Can't see traps because of walls blocking 2) Floor traps seem to trigger at random. Some times I can walk over with nothing happening, other times insta death.

Game is super polished - sounds, music, graphics and animations are great for such small period of time. I'm amazed you've made different models for different gamestates.
Few downsides: Too sad there is no proper gameover - both for winning and losing the game. Strict camera angle is also not ideal, makes it kinda hard to see traps in some parts of island.

I loved this game! I'll play more of it later, I was soooo close finishing it and opening the door  It's very simple to learn but hard to master. Which is a basis of a great game. I loved the graphics and the sound effects. Also the way the mood shifts gradually is done to perfection. The way the character reacts when it finds one of those little tokens is very cute. he's happy like a kid

A very good team work for this game :
The best : - The idea works reaaally well with the subject - Gameplay mechanics associated are good (a bit long to come back at the end when you died, but it's fair) - The changing atmosphere as a feedback is veeeery good, and satisfying - Environnement, graphics and mood are great - Music is really fit to the game and voice acting is nice
To improve : - The camera which is sometimes treacky with what we can see (being able to turn around would have been great) - controls bound only on wasd and not the directionnal arrows (for an international event, think about it ;) )
My thanks for the experience anyway, was great !
This game is so polished and fun to play. You all did a great job, looking forward to seeing announcement of the full game!

This is such an awesome entry! Once I finally got the concept of how to reach certain areas, I was so surprised and happy! The music was also quite nostalgic. My only wish would be a different camera angle. Otherwise, well done!

The graphics are incredible! I love the mechanic of your dead bodies staying behind and using them to complete puzzles, and it fits very well with the theme. Impressive work !
Great visuals! Would have liked a line of dialogue or some indication at the begninning that you need to die in order to advance, but otherwise really well done
Fantastic! I made it through with 8 deaths the first time, then I went back to see if there was a bad ending or game over. I'm a bit disappointed that losing just spat me back at the beginning of the game without any sort of anything. My character lost its soul after all.

Wow. This game is incredibly impressive given the time constraints for the jam. The graphics and audio are great, and the fact that there are advanced camera moves on top of it is wild. Really well done, team!
Woah...surprisingly very good entry. Love the graphic a lot. Great job guys!
Really nice and polish game, you nailed it. i think you could just smoothing the camera during the stairs and it will be perfect.

Really nice game. Graphics and music are amazing, good job guys.
Absolutely brilliant! 5 starts at everything! Music was so damn good!
There's not really much to add that I didn't say during my stream or what people are saying here so I'll just reiterate: Fantastic graphics, music was nice and moody, controller support was an excellent addition, and the persistent corpse mechanic was well done. Fantastic entry!

Really cool graphics and music. The quest is really cool and the gameplay mechanic of dying to progress is well though out, great job !
Cool game! Could be more forgiving though haha
Too bad collision detection was a mess. otherwise a pretty good play with nice looking voxels. The music was indulging, too.

Let's start with bad things to get them out. Fix camera positioning a bit (maybe shaders fix for certain obstacles to increase opacity?) and based on camera the collision detection would be cool.
And now, this game is basically a ship-ready product for Switch, especially as CO-OP game... I adore the graphics and audio (especially the 4th iteration you wanted me to follow, will listen to it on youtube). Please include me for alpha testing when you guys will be more into production! Can't stress enough how priviledged I am to see this brilliant game.
Job well done guys. Hi 5!

Outside of the character controller being kind of clunky, as well as moving that cube in the third area being nearly impossible at times, this was a very well designed game for the most part. The animations and art was on point, like really really well done. The only thing I would say to work on for next time would be lighting. Other than that really really well done. Great job!
Fantastic job, I think the idea works really well for the theme. And would love to see more from this team in the future.

Neat game! The artstyle is really complex. Love the voxel style. The lore adds a lot to the game, too. The game suffered a bit as a webm game. Low framerate, and some stutters, but deffinately still playable! Very fun game! I like the level design.
This game was amazing! It's visually appealing and easy to pick up and play. I loved how the world slowly decayed as you died more an more, and how you could use your old bodies to walk over hazards. All and all, I was really impressed! If I had one complaint, it's the ending. I felt less like the world was looping and more that it was a standard game loop. I feel like their should have been some sort of acknowledgement that the game was looping back on it's self. Perhaps a slightly different opening bit from the narrator?
Very well done! Crazy good quality for a jam game!
Really good game! I mainly find myself impressed by the atmosphere. The graphics are pretty minecrafty, but the actual assets are really cool and the gradual decaying of the environment after each respawn is awesome! But navigating with WASD at this camera angle is rough... Great job making a unique game with the theme! Music is also super cool.
Great atmosphere and camerawork! The intro with the narration was a really nice touch. Performance was a little rough even on my GTX 1060 but totally playable. Oh and the environment changing over time was really nice to see! Really the environment in general was the highlight of the game. Perhaps a bit low on the "stuck in a loop" side of things, but hey, it's pretty good overall!
Man, I literally have no complains about your game! It's 5 stars everyone of the categories, this is so good! Had a blast!
Great game, really well polished with amazing graphics and audio (music and sfx). The main mechanic is interesting and has room to be explored in different ways as well. Also, the world becoming "darker" as you die was a really nice touch, but to be fair I just saw it in my third playthrough as I was trying to get some kind of different ending haha Really well done, congratulations!
Fantastic work here. It's impressive how much game you got together in such a short period of time. Very nice polish and attention to details. Great job. Congratulations!
Love the voxel art, the gameplay is simple yet promising. It reminds me a little bit of minecraft story mode. The environment changing with your deaths is a really nice touch. Very good polish overall :)

Fantastic work. Very polished, the sounds, the voices, the animations, the voxel art. Even tho it kinda fits the theme, the other aspects are so good that theme is actually my worst grade here Oo
I am amazed that this game could run properly on web. Well i know my pc is pretty beefy but still. Usually, even games like these will choke on Web. Good job on that! Then for the obvious part which you already know, the professionalism placed in this game is top notch!!! I also loved the way the grass and other stuff changes every time you die. Great implementation of the theme! All I wish is if there was more button actions like jumping and possibly jump or running. Maybe you had those in mind but placed your attention on the details. Overall great game!

Beautiful graphics! Lovely music! Amazing attention to detail! Honestly one of the most polished game jam entries I've ever seen!
...that being said, I thought the gameplay itself was just okay. Kind of slow, not very challenging. I feel like there could have been some more puzzley elements to it, especially with those weighted cube and switches.

Unbelievable that this whole map and all of its textures were made for the jam. Interesting mechanic, very bothersome to go back and forth over and over though.

2020-10-08 22:08
Absolutely loved this game. The art is brilliant! Amazing animation and nice sound and music too! There were some really amazing touches with the world getting more and more bloodsoaked as you die more and more :)
For a 72hr game this is simply brilliant but if you do take it further then I'd say it either needs to make more of the dead bodies mechanic and the moveable cubes (that was a little hard to push around) to give more depth to the puzzles or some additional mechanics need adding (inventory, or jumping, etc). Finally, giving the user the ability to rotate the camera would add a lot to the playability. Often I couldn't see traps or my characters position clearly.
@kharath Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it! We've discussed about pushing the game further and we are now gathering every feedback we got so that we can bring the game where it should be!

Whooo, this is so much fun.Thank you!
Interesting game. Nice work overall. You should give yourselves a pat on the back.
I really liked your game, the music is very beautiful, and I like the voxel style a lot, and for a long time I use the voxel magic, among other modeling software, your character is very charismatic, but I miss a little occlusion, the colors were very saturated making you lose some of the beauty of your project, I don't know if you know more about the game "The Touryst" as a reference in a voxel game I believe it can help with ideas to add to your project, your game is the 2 that I met here in the jam with art voxel, I will also follow you on the itch, to see your improvement because I know it will still become a much more beautiful game, again my congratulations, a big hug.
@etrealjunior Hey thanks for you feedback! You're absolutely right, it is too saturated. We've been using URP so that the game would run smoother on WebGL, but never actually learned how to use it properly (because game jam). We've actually been fiddling with URP this week and finally found the ambiance occlusion setting and proper light backing. Here's a picture of the result. It's not perfect, but it's a start  And thanks for the game reference, that's exactly the graphics we're aiming for! unknown.png
It's getting really good, are you using MagicaVoxel, Blender and Unity? If you want, I can help you with the import system so you don't get saturated with the software transfer
@etrealjunior Thanks, we're using Qubicle and Unity. Our 3D artist actually [made a post](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/beyond-death/crafting-beyond-deaths-assets) on how he did the assets. We almost went for MagicaVoxel (because it's free), but our artist already had Qubicle so  If we switch, I'll be sure to poke you :stuck_out_tongue:
Great game! I really like its visuals and the idea of using your own body in order to get pass the different obstacles. What I miss is being able of rotating the camera, I understand is part of the game but it was a bit uncomfortable. Amazing job!!

Funny concept, one could make another video song of "Dumb Ways To Die" with the scenes from this game ;) But come on, is getting yourself impaled so that you can walk over your own corpse really the most efficient way to solve a puzzle? :) Btw. the intro was very well done, but I think there's an opportunity for more voice-overs during the gameplay if you plan to continue the development, for example after every death, when entering a new puzzle zone, or when idle for too long.

Very polished and fun simple game.
@scsc AAh damn you! Now I have that song stuck in my head  We do are planning to continue the development so every critic / feedback is appreciated !
Hey, played the game and actually don't know what to say. On one hand is the fact that it is working, level design is nice, voiceover and animations neat and so on, on another hand it's hard to place this game in a row with other games made by 1-3 people (usually). Will it be fail if I'll rate it with keeping in mind that 6 people were working on it, right?
Overall no matters what is the rate the result is nice. Well done, guys.
This was such a clever use of the theme! The use of the dead bodies was so rewarding to figure out. Also great job with the graphics and the INCREDIBLE original soundtrack. I had some trouble seeing parts of the map that felt important because of the tilt of the camera, but that is basically my only issue. Great job :)

Graphics and sound-wise you've got a winner on your hands. Gameplay wise I really like how you handled the isometric camera with top-down movement and the level design is to the point, but there are just some clunky moments to address: - The camera is low to the ground, and sometimes obscures obstacles you could have never seen coming. - The part where you enter the cave and change scenes felt out of place... couldn't that have been fit into the main island scene? I didn't notice that was supposed to be a cave entrance the first time and got confused when I had one totem left but nowhere else to go. - The area after you drown yourself on the river is too vast and empty. Looks like there was supposed to be something else there but you didn't have time, in that case I understand. - The game repeating itself in the end was pretty infuriating... I get it's made like that to fit the theme of "stuck in a loop", but doesn't make it any less anti-climactic.
Anyways, that was all. All-in-all amazing game with some clunk but nothing that detracts from the fun!
@fupi thabks for thé feedback! If you look carefully when you enter the cave, if you look down the void, you will see the main island, it doesn’t change scene ;), also we wanted to make an end, but didn’t have the time in 72h, the main loop theme is in the corpse mecanic. We know it’s sad when t doesn’t really have an end. But kinda funny that it fits the theme haha

2020-10-10 16:35
@charles-viau I didn't mean it in a programming kind of sense, I meant that entering the cave and coming out at a different point in the map felt out of place with the rest of the game that, aside from that moment, is an interconnected map area where all of the action happens on the same island as everything else.
Stunning graphics. Nice use of the interaction between bodies and environment for puzzles.
I wish the sky bridges had a visual effect to indicate you can't fall off the sides. I didn't have to pick my way carefully up every time.
I agree with Fupi just above that the transition in the cave felt a little odd. In fact, I almost missed that it was possible to enter the cave when I was playing, because it looked like just a closed space to mark where one idol was.
The way the environment evolves over the course of the game was a lovely bit of polish that really let you show off your artwork.

Vey nice guys... I really liked the little character animations and sounds on picking up an idol, and on the various types of death. Lovely little attention to detail there. Fun to play, though I'd have liked to have been able to move the camera around. Really good overall.

Nice job! The story at the start was nice to have together with the small puzzles. Could do with a run mechanic to let the player move a little bit more quickly
Incredible world you guys built, really liked the style you went with I think its a real eye catcher. The gameplay, whilst simple was effective on showcasing the world you guys built which was a big highlight. I think the game definitely could have improved on adding some SFX especially the spikes since it did feel a bit empty. The movements are clean and feel good, this game definitely feels like a jump would be a good addition but I see how you guys wanted to keep it simple. I personally think a final ending would have worked well in this instead of just looping back but I understand given the time constraint. Nice work!

Beautiful game, perfect marks all around!
I like the idea of death as kinda resource management. The game is perfectly long enough and with enough content, and the difficulty is very good (though maybe it should be a bit harder).
The game world is beautiful, it was a joy to explore, and you can feel the amount of effort and time and attention to detail that went into designing it and creating the art.
Music was good and well-fitting. But the thing that amazed me most was the fact that the visuals and music change depending on the amount of sacrifices performed. So much so that after winning, I played through again just to see all the different levels of gloom. I wish I could give marks above 10 just for that.
The intro cut scene was spot on, it explained the mechanics and showed off the world very well. The only thing I missed was a Victory scene and Defeat scene, but that was just lightly anticlimactic, no big issue.
Good job! :)
Extremely well-done! The world is very nice-looking, the animations are smooth and flawless, and not many 3D games can boast that the infamous "wall bug" doesn't exist! ("Wall bug" example: like in the game NHL 20, the hockey player's sticks often go through the walls or other players) I'd love to see a much longer version of this!
My only complaint is the lack of using Right Stick (or some keyboard keys) to rotate the camera. You got the camera at the perfect angle so this wasn't much of an issue though.
Nice. Consistent good looking style and especially the animations were top notch! The UI could have used some of that same love. It looked rather bland and stock Unity and didn't even scale properly.
asd.png
The landscape changing the look the more you died was cool and on my first run I think I was on the last possible loop while getting through the door. The red water, blood on the altar and so on really sold the ominous feel of impending doom. Was quite confused about the lack of any ending and kinda missed the whole thing about 12 deaths my first time seeing the intro so actually played the game twice. The second run was obviously much smoother and squeezed through with what I think is minimum number of deaths possible (i.e. three). I even walked back from the final totem! :sunglasses:
The intro should be able to be skipped though...
The corpse usage as a helper for next round was cool. I was even admiring the previous corpse being there even before it really clicked to me that that it the main mechanic of the game and the way to solve the puzzles. But on the other hand even if it was cool and worked early on, later on in the stage it became just annoying really. It was just forced death and a time waste which is never fun. Thankfully you didn't do these too late in the stage really.
Might have actually made more sense to have the final idol also be on its own branch. Now it just kinda made the middle one almost pointless. And that would have made the trek to it shorter too so you could have used the death mechanic more.
But this was unacceptable! The dude falls down in the death animation and his hat falls off too...
Screenshot 2020-10-11 at 19.23.20.png
The block pushing was hella broken. Dumb me didn't realize that it was on a button which controlled the flame trap so I tried to push it to block the flame trap with. I managed to kinda do it but the block fell out of the world on top of the stairs. Should have introduced the flame trap in a more clear setting. Sure you had it once earlier before but it was too much covered by the wall and I only got to really see the button (which didn't even look deadly at all) and then the character just getting lit ablaze. And when encountering the pushable block (*time to crate* of around 3/4ths of the game ) it kinda just looked like a pedestal for it. The pushing didn't always work, had to stop and try again several times often for it to move and getting it close to walls made it even more glitchy. Of course it wasn't even supposed to be pushed that much really so not a huge problem.
The game controlled fine but the locked isometric 45 degree view made it a bit awkward since you usually had to be holding down two keys. I guess it would work fine with an analog stick though. But allowing the player to rotate the camera would obviously be the best way to go. This would also fix those annoying places where a trap was hiding behind a wall up until you got too close to it to really react.
Anyways, good job!

This game is stunningly beautiful. I especially loved the gradual purple overgrowth and the river changing to a more suitable colour :'D Also really liked the idea of using your corpses as platforms to overcome hazards, but regarding this, while I get that the projectiled traps are a different type of hazard, it felt a bit disconnected that they would still work after I placed my... dead body there.
But other than that man... just beautiful experience. Did the living and the death playthrough. Thank you for this gem u_u

Really loved the idea and the art was fantastic! I wish I could have controlled the camera to skip some unfair/frustrating deaths.
That was really fun! I really like the voxel world you all constructed! The way the world and music changed the more deaths you had was particularly awesome! I also liked the dynamic camera work and character animations!
My two nitpicks are I didn't understand that the cave went to another area, and that the camera got a bit jittery when the character was going up steps (perhaps some smoothing/damping of the camera motion would help here).
Overall, fantastic work!
Viva the Voxel. Lots of work here and a good use of the theme. I felt the difficulty went the wrong way as the tasks were completed, but I expect that was a time thing. Really solid effort.

Excellent graphics and a fun world to explore!
I loved how the world transformed as you died over and over!
I would have loved to be able to rotate the camera, and I think the UI could do with some more love, the font in particular clashed a bit with the rest of the game's presentation.
I found the first traps on the stairs a little bit too difficult would have loved a way to disable that so that I would not have to go through it again if I messed up somewhere further along!
Loved the graphics and sound design. The world was really well made and the concept was super creative. I'm amazed that you were able to create such a polished game in the short time span. The only gripe I had was with not being able to control the camera.

Very impressive creating not only a world this detailed, but then also four different variations of it! The music is, of course, perfect for setting the mood, too.
I first thought it would be nice if you could turn the camera, but then I came to see it as an interesting part of the challenge. The only place where it felt a little unfair was the flamethrower shortly before the totem at the teleporter. I don't see how you could have seen that one coming.
I went the path over the spikes first, and got the two totems there, so I was surprised when I saw that the path over the river led straight to the third totem and it was very easy to get. I would have maybe added a little more of a challenge there, perhaps a maze made out of spikes. That path is probably meant to be the more beginner-friendly one, but as long as the spikes are spaced out enough, I don't think it would hurt.
There was a lot to like and I liked it a lot! Great job!

This game is cruel :'(
First off I absolutely love the voxel graphics! Gorgeous environment and when mixed with the audio you've definitely set the mood. The concept is great for the theme and the execution is on point. It's very polished, especially considering the timeframe, and I had great time playing. Excellent job!
As a side note, is there any point to that box you can push around before the third totem? I pushed it out but didn't need to use it. Also, I saw you guys used Qubicle. Have you used MagicaVoxel at all? Curious what you prefer about Qubicle as I haven't tried it.

good idea with dead bodies
@balance686 Hey glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback. The box actually stopped a fire above the stairs. You had to move the box to make the fire stop. Of all the people who we saw play our game, only one actually got that, so that was some poor level design. A quick fix would be to move the fire down the stairs so you can see it and you move the box.
Also we haven't tried MagicaVoxel yet since our 3D artist already had Qubicle, but we will sure give it a shot soon. The only thing I can tell you is that MagicaVoxel is free and Qubicle is not, so that a plus for Magica.
Fun game, well done on all visual/audio aspects. Not thrilled with the controls as most of the time to move in "normal" directions required holding down two keys but eventually I got used to it. The color changes as you die more was a very nice touch. At the end (after 12 deaths) and at the end (after winning) it just went back to me on the altar. Not sure if this was by design (stuck in a loop) or if there was a you win/lose message that was supposed to play. Kind of left me hanging as I didn't know if there was supposed to be more or something else to do. Having to kill yourself to get past certain hurdles was also an interesting mechanic. Overall I still really enjoyed playing it.

Hey guys ! You an awesome job, making a voxel game in 3 days is actually pretty impressive, I made a little review video of your entry, feel free to check it out ! :) https://youtu.be/q6owUl7mZVU
Cool graphics and a nice voice over! The world changing color was also a very nice graphical ouch.
I liked the idea of leaving your own skeletons behind to open up new paths - shame it wasn't utilized more (I found it necessary only in two places). I enjoyed the level design overall and the world felt fun to explore. The only thing I didn't like were those few traps you could not see (because of forced perspective) until you actually stepped into them  felt like no fun dying to such a trap.
I also feel like I'm being lied to by the soul collector! I collected the totems, I went through the door, and he just returned me to the beginning! I have a feeling he is wiping my memories and playing some kind of devious game with me. Foooorever! Cheater

It's probably the most fun game I've played in this jam game hahaha. The feeling of exploring every corner of the map is incredible. The challenges are very interesting, and accomplishing them is very rewarding and rewarding. The graphics are beautiful, and the soundtrack is magnificent (along with all the dialogues and sound effects). The interpretation of the theme was fantastic in that game. I hope one day to play an expanded version of this game, as it really is an extremely good experience. For some reason the game itself reminds me of SNES or Mega Drive games.
Congratulations on the work!

Really well made game! The graphics and animations are great and you even had some voice acting. Well done! It was a fun little game, I like the "dying makes the game easier, and is even required sometimes" mechanic and wish you used it even more. Maybe you could unlock a faster path to the last totem, if you die right at the end, you have to go all the way back. All in all, very impressive entry!

That's a really good entry. I was impressed by the "wake up"-animation. I found the game loop a little confusing, when I died the first time, I think a notice for telling me "your corpse could be useful" might've been a nice tip
The camera was also a little.. uhm.. jumpy, especially when going up the stairs, some LERPing there would've made a difference :)
Really nice atmosphere and really, and impressive entry. Happy to have played it :)
The animations and graphics for this game are really impressive. The skeletons at the door and the river turning to blood are nice touches. I'm interested to see what other useful ways my dead body can be used... that's a weird a thing to say out of context :joy:
This game is really cool! The graphics are great, loved the opening animation. I really enjoyed music too. Maybe it can be optimized better, I was getting some performance issues. Very good work!
The 3D graphics of the game were very well done and colorful. The animation was pretty polished. The audio was great especially the music which had a lot of depth to it. I did find the game to be slightly frustrating because I felt that the camera was the biggest obstacle in the game. Furthermore, I did not like repeating large portions of the game when I died.

Wow. As I started playing, I was amazed by the graphics and the music of the game! I liked that the environment and the music changed by how many times you were dead. It took me a couple of minutes to get used to that you can't rotate your camera. After a while, I understood that this thing was one of the main challenges of the game. Besides that, the controls are very comfortable.
Overall, that was a very interesting and fun experience.
Good luck!
This is a great entry! I see you guys worked with a large team and I'm sure that helped. The art is on POINT - I love it. Some of the animation transitions were a little bit jarring, but most things were very smooth and well animated. I don't know what to criticize here. I guess it took me a while to figure out the death cycle thing, especially since he said if you die too many times you lose but I figured it out. Great submission!
Wow, that was a super-polished experience! I had a lot of fun with the game but I died one time too many, it seems 😅 If you're curious to see how I played your game, here's me playing it on my stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15n2Eq8yeVA (video will unlock in 18 hrs from now, sorry about that)
Thanks for submitting! 😊
Absolutely loved the artstyle and music! The gameplay is also very good. I wish i would be able to move the camera though.
@philstrahl haha yes you had it open twice, that’s why you were having both music played at the same time :p thanks for sharing your review :)
