LD47 — Stuck in a loop

a Damsel a Day by alec 2020-10-07T04:04:40Z

Really love the mini-minimalistic art style. The trees are beautiful. The train smoke is very cool too. Overall, the game is simple and very well polished. Delivers what it sells very well.

Ps: you guys should think about adding an online leader board.

Really love the visuals, the SFX and the initial concept. The idea of having a cycle of different forms to solve puzzles is great.

However, it feels like you didn't have the time to really implement that concept. The way the game is right now, all I had to do was stand still for a while until I could fly towards the final door. Maybe adding a timer to force the player to always keep moving and ponder the right path to choose would be a good idea. Having a meter displaying how much time you have until the next transformation could really help too. And most of all, maybe you could think of a way to offer hazards for the moth across the map. Right now, it is simply OP. Maybe there could be a cave where moths can't fly but the bug can easily wander through. This would encourage players to think of different strategies to reach the final door.

The game is also pretty glitchy on my Mac, but that can be my personal experience. Overall, considering the time you've had, congratulations! Looking forward to seeing more of this :)

Pretty cool voxel graphics. On my Mac, the gameplay was a little glitchy, but I really dig the concept overall. The environment changes are a really nice touch.

Ps: I gathered the three yellow thingies and still didn't get to open the door. And you might've left a glitchy collider that can make the character walk on air on the lava part. And the stone cube puzzle didn't work for me.

Man, I really loved your art style and the minimalistic gameplay. The floor-mopping puzzle you created is very smart and simple. And the window view is a nice, immersive, melancholic touch.

I know it's supposed to be a minimalistic game, but you should consider giving a purpose to the in-game currency. The point of the game is to show how meaningless empty work can be, however, giving an illusory award to the player (such as a bigger bucket or stuff you can decorate your cabin with) might make people stick to the game for a longer time. And it will all still be for nothing at the end.

Taking into account it's supposed to be a conceptual game, I'd also cut the "moral of the story" text at the end. In my opinion, the concept is pretty clear by itself and literally delivering the message at the end, as explaining a joke, makes it a little less special.

Overall, even though I've seen a bunch of games associating the workplace with the "stuck on a loop" theme, this is one of my favourite games of this jam so far. Someone on the comments mentioned that the game is depressive as if it's a bad thing. I really dig it and was really drawn into it. Kudos.

Hey, really liked the doggo thumbnail. The link is broken, though. Hope you fix it in time!

Really like the looks of it and its retro vibe. The way you're always looping through the scenario reminds me of that old game Bubble Bobble. And the whole turning the stage upside down is a very cool twist (no pun intended).

Love the art. Would definitely play again. However, I think you could've dug further into the jam's theme. And maybe think about adding some upgrades to further the gameplay experience. Overall, very well polished, straightforward game. Keep up!
