Super fun game! I made it to 20 days

chickencastle 2020-10-04 22:59

Simple and effective. Great implementation of the theme. Really nice art. Made it to 23 days. I imagine a leader board would go well with a game like this. Well done!

bloham 2020-10-04 23:04

I like the Sound of the game and that there is so much detail in it! The moving pixel art trees especially. Unfortunatly due to the randomness I came across some impossible levels that ended rather quickly :P But a very good submission! I just made it 19 days.

rex64 2020-10-04 23:46

Music is really catchy! Also love the pixel art. Simple but extremely expressive. Cool twist on the theme also. Get your reflexes ready to spot where the maiden in distress ASAP!

cryptomnesic 2020-10-04 23:47

Nice work, especially in TIC80 for 48h...I am impress.

nick-barrash 2020-10-04 23:58

Cool!

How does the placement of the princess work? Sometimes she was like 2 steps away even for some of the later levels. Is that just random?

alec 2020-10-05 00:16

@nick-barrash ya its random(ish). It's based on the location of the train, offset down the train track a number of tiles depending on the difficulty/day counter.

Far from a perfect solution, since it can create both really easy, and impossible situations!

cary-stanley 2020-10-05 00:20

Great Game! Love the chunky pixels, and the "story" really goes along with the them. Love the animated train. :train: . Title Screen music is supper catchy :smile_cat:

dinosire 2020-10-05 01:13

Really cute game, love the art! The music is sooooo catchy I legit wanna just listen to this on it's own. Nice take on the concept too, really impressive that you got this done in 2 days.

kittymac 2020-10-05 02:16

Definitely a cute game!

nerdytopic 2020-10-05 03:32

I love that the damsels font is different from the rest of the game, and the smiley face she gives off when she's saved is particularly charming. I'm a sucker for your art- even though its so simple, I feel like it would do well if you had it pick random assets from a tree array, random plants, random rocks, random terrain- could really keep it fresh if you'd had more time than 48 hours! I also think this would be a perfect game to implement a leaderboard in someday. Good work!

michael-parrish 2020-10-05 04:28

Love this game! Simple yet fun concept and incredibly polished with great visuals. Good job!

kookiedough 2020-10-05 04:43

Amazing concept, had a blast playing. I could only make it to level 15 lol

connorthompson 2020-10-05 06:40

Could have used a few more obstacles in the early levels, started off easy but didnt ramp up fast enough to be challenging. Really good graphics though and love the music!

ashley-koett 2020-10-05 07:09

ah i love this game so much!!! the graphics are so good, the music is perfect, i love the animations and the idea. great work :-)

flopo 2020-10-05 07:14

Very cool game! It is super clean and you worked well with your scope!

timeloopedpowergamer 2020-10-05 07:57

Lovely sound effects. Having a way to sample later levels would have been nice, as it appears the elements get ramped up as it goes on, based on other comments. Or maybe ramp things up faster? Lots of smooth and easy early levels. Fun to play, but not easy to play for long on the early levels at least.

merkisoft 2020-10-05 08:28

very well executed game! nice music, very nice retro style, really fast paced and you just want to rescue them all! not sure how you did the levels, because about level 16 was impossible (train and myself went immediately straight right, but train overtook me and i could not rescue her. maybe generational levels need a sanity check?)

brads-space 2020-10-05 11:03

Crunchy crunchy sound, love it.

rhoff95 2020-10-05 13:51

Great game! Art is super clean and nice. Would like to see some other mechanic tied into saving the girl. As is, seems like reaction time is the only deciding factor, and it would be cool if the train track configuration had more significance.

who-blee 2020-10-05 13:51

Super cute, and genuinely really fun to play! Hopefully, I will make it past day five at some point.

aarimous 2020-10-05 14:08

I think the difficulty is just right. Nice game! Was there any sort of difficulty curve or can you just randomly get unlucky with positioning?

indiequest 2020-10-05 14:41

Nice sounds and visuals, great game for such a short time!

zakamana 2020-10-05 15:02

Great entry! the art and music are top notch and everything feel very polished. Good job! PS: These damn trees keep getting in my way!

rustywolf 2020-10-05 15:19

Easy to get sucked into this one. Lets me hyper focus on the loop. No think, only save. Awesome entry

evogengames 2020-10-05 15:20

Oh the she dead track was amazing! :-)

Art, music, concept was really good. It quickly became kind of stale though. Maybe the pace should be slower, that way you could introduce some other mechanics, like a tracksplitter that you have to toggle that gives you more time or something like that.

Overall really enjoyed it! thank you for the game

indiedevdan 2020-10-05 16:07

It's fun, and a great idea. However, a few times my character spawned behind things, like trees, and I had no real idea where I was without moving far enough, which is difficult when you have a time limit. And, on one level the train spawned so close to the damsel, that I had no time to actually get to her, making it a certain loss. Maybe alter it so the train distance corresponds more with the player distance? (Perhaps I just had a one off bad spawn though haha) Quite addictive other than that! :)

wongkongphooey 2020-10-05 16:16

Great game! The most important thing about it is that you built lots of replay value into it, and lots of levels to play through. The audio is particularly catchy too!

tulipekoni 2020-10-05 16:23

One of the best ones so far! good job

hamus 2020-10-05 16:40

LOVE the trees shifting in the wind. Great game and beautiful just to look at

dkdwrek 2020-10-05 17:18

I love the music in this game! Also the graphics and gameplay loop are spot-on, and very impressive for compo.

joonamo 2020-10-05 18:45

How can such a simple concept be so much fun! Made it to 21 days, gonna give it another shot and aim for a full month! :calendar_spiral:

yeti-kid 2020-10-05 19:05

Really good game and really well made! My best is 38 days! The graphics work so well with this game and especially like the swaying trees!

william-overton 2020-10-05 21:19

One of the best I have played so far, great idea!

milestone-games 2020-10-05 22:28

What a fantastic art style! I'm impressed by how much detail you managed to communicate in the limited resolution, something I've been struggling with in my own game.

All in all, fun, great idea!

rodgems 2020-10-05 23:03

Brilliant stuff! Controls feel a little slidy at times, but other than that, I think this is my favourite so far from this jam <3

*I can't get enough of those trees*

potatopancakes 2020-10-05 23:34

Easily the cutest game I have seen today. The pixel art is on point! Well done. You are the only person that I have given 5's in every category and it was not a hard decision to make. Well done!

jamison 2020-10-05 23:34

20 days!

Great, juicy animations. I loved the tree sway, the transitions, and the character animations. The game-over music is pretty dang good. Makes me feel bad for losing, lol.

Good job setting the mood with a story, too. Very cute.

However, I think it's a little too simple to hold your attention for more than one or two attempts. I would have liked to see some way of interacting with the train or tracks, maybe with switches or something. But hey, nice work.

delightfullymad 2020-10-06 01:07

Excellent style and fun little game. Would be nice to have more substance to levels with extra challenge, but great job!

fpoli 2020-10-06 01:08

Cute game! The pixel art is top notch, well done! Loved the simplicity of it, and how you introduced the "loop" theme. Had fun playing it (reached 15 days). The controls feel very comfortable too. Is the track generated randomly?

albuquerque 2020-10-06 02:10

Simple. Polished. As game jam winners tend to be. 5/5

apples-mmmmmmmm 2020-10-06 02:42

This game is so cute, well done.

change 2020-10-06 03:40

Simaple and fun!Greate pixel art and music!

juan-garcia-jousset 2020-10-06 04:29

I really like the graphics and it feels very good to play, nice work on the polishing! I don't quite understand where the "loop" theme was, but anyways great game!

bradur 2020-10-06 05:32

Lovely graphics, sfx and music. The gameplay is super simple and as such gets a little repetitive quick. Nevertheless, a solid execution of the idea. Also fits the theme quite well. I made it to 11 days. Good job!

meek-bits 2020-10-06 06:58

22 was my best :) Great graphics, audio and overlay execution.

rost 2020-10-06 07:00

Love it! Really like how you made the train! Much better than how we made our train.

tsunscreen 2020-10-06 09:09

Not much to say. This is great!

davidpeterworks 2020-10-06 10:50

9th days. Thank you for the fun. It is nice visually. Music is also lovely. Be proud of it.

chesschaser 2020-10-06 11:45

Really fun game and the detail is amazing (smoke, moving trees)!

kregames 2020-10-06 11:56

It brings back pretty nice chilchood memories with our Commodore64: the music, the artstyle, even the game itself! Pretty cool concept! Liked it! Great work, nice entry.

zrepa 2020-10-06 13:05

8 days before the failure, damn. Sound of the train keeps you in the rhythm to run. Cool game, good job!

caeonosphere 2020-10-06 13:14

22, not bad! A couple close calls in there too. Nice to see another game featuring trains and trees blowing in the breeze. :)

I think one more element to the gameplay would have gone a long way in extending the enjoyment, but it's a nice, simple game as is. Well executed across the board.

trizalio 2020-10-06 14:18

19 days. Nice idea, great graphics, smooth experience Awesome! Thank you for game!

subman 2020-10-06 14:38

18 days. Why is she getting in the way ?!

croxel-studios 2020-10-06 15:54

Awesome graphics, it looks really polished. I think it only kind of fits the theme, but it's a great minigame.

spacecadet 2020-10-06 17:41

Awesome overall feel on the game. Everything feels really polished, especially the art. I would have liked to see some other mechanics than just running to the damsel and avoiding the train to mix up the gameplay a little bit. All in all an enjoyable game.

ruruie 2020-10-06 18:00

I actually love this. It's simple and crisp and well presented and the music fits the tone which is that ACTUALLY this isn't about any individual damsel-train incident. It's just a constant endurance test of spotting where she is and beelining.

malle 2020-10-06 18:23

One of the best i played so far, great work

palemek 2020-10-06 21:13

24 days i rescued my dearest, but our love was ended not later after... i found her on tracks. Or i should say i found parts of her... We will be together again someday, i am sure of it

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-06 21:40

Perfect clean and simpe pixel art with great music and sound effects

quentin-wittevrongel 2020-10-06 22:35

Very great game, I enjoyed playing it. Too bad that the character sometimes spawns behind a tree. Great job overall.

lanalux 2020-10-07 01:37

Very cute game. :) Nice polish!

squimmy 2020-10-07 02:32

Nice! I particularly like the trees.

It seems like if you play long enough, you'll eventually reach a level that's impossible to beat, but I suppose that sort of thing is inevitable when you're placing things randomly, especially when doing things on such a tight timescale.

Aside from that, the design is tight, the music is catchy and the graphics are endearing. Great all around.

samdwester 2020-10-07 03:41

Polished game. Sometimes I think it was too hard to get to the person on the track before the train. Loved the audio and immersion

meloquem 2020-10-07 04:04

Really love the mini-minimalistic art style. The trees are beautiful. The train smoke is very cool too. Overall, the game is simple and very well polished. Delivers what it sells very well.

Ps: you guys should think about adding an online leader board.

mnursey 2020-10-07 04:13

Super simple so chill, nice work.

kaganobik 2020-10-07 04:44

Graphics and music was great. Nice job!

panagiotis-iatrou 2020-10-07 10:04

Not gonna lie that is probably the best game I've played so far. The aesthetic is simply amazing and feels really polished. And the fact that it is made with TIC-80 makes it even better!. Great job. Solid 5/5 Untitled.png

super-hadoken 2020-10-07 14:21

Great fun game. Very polished, cute graphics and lots of nice touches.

jusw85 2020-10-07 16:53

Great game! I loved the music, and the gameplay was simple and fun. Got to day 29, not sure if it was possible to save the maiden, the train seemed to close and I was too far to get there in time.

shootingstaa 2020-10-07 17:35

I got 23 days! Simple but fun enough to enjoy. Nice music and cute pixel art.

rawb 2020-10-07 20:35

Really cool style

seth-tal 2020-10-08 01:39

This is the kind of game I would almost consider the perfect jam game. Its just simple enough for 2 or 3 days of solid work, and just polished enough to be a real game on either an App store or Steam or what ever distribution platform. I am such a fan of this 8x8 art style. I would love to know if the trees are rendered behind a filter or if they are actually animated? (OR DYNAMICALLY ANIMATED?). Overall amazing job!

zombiebust3r 2020-10-08 07:54

Simple game but very satisfying to play. Could make a great casual game for mobile devices with a trillion more levels. There are sometimes where trees are in the way of either the player's spawn point or the lady making it hard to very quickly decide where to go. Other than that very polished game!

bredera 2020-10-08 16:25

Simple but very addicting to play. I like the pixel art I think it really makes the game stand out. The background music fits quite well with the game. Overall a good job!

tino 2020-10-08 22:15

We can edit the code! I tried having much more trees..

mbrezu 2020-10-09 06:34

Amazing fun! Music a little jarring, but other than that, everything was great.

Will there be a mobile version? :-D

patsui 2020-10-09 20:26

+great art & presentation!

+good sound and music

-gameplay could use some variety. Seemed like train placement was random since I died in an unwinnable situation.

Good job!

sophiemae0 2020-10-10 01:32

The graphics and audio for this was on point I especially loved the transitions. This was super fun and satisfying to play. I wish there was more variance between the levels. Overall a great game, a pleasure to play :)

hungrycatgames 2020-10-10 02:57

Nice retro feel! Really liked it.

pekuja 2020-10-10 12:10

Quite fun, though obviously very simplistic. Kind of reminds me of Wario Ware. The challenge is very much in reacting to the new situation.

erlioniel 2020-10-10 14:14

Really love this minimalistic art style :) Overall ofc it's not balanced (should it be?) and I lost only because train was spavning in front of me, but who cares, right? Well done mate!

cameo_damsel_day.png

zaibakk 2020-10-10 14:25

Cool game here! I loved expecially the art! Also the random generated levels was cool. Maybe would be better to add some challenge each level, but anyway cool entry!

merpui 2020-10-10 16:03

This is a nice little retro game! Loved the artstyle and the music :) Well done!

bumdag 2020-10-11 00:27

Fantasic little piece. I really loved the style, sound, music. Great little game

mharring 2020-10-11 00:49

Great job! The art style is great, very cohesive (I particularly enjoyed the trees and transition effect). I wish there was maybe one more mechanic to require a little strategy. The acceleration / deceleration on the player movement felt a little strange, as if you were running on ice. That aside, I had fun with this one. Nice work!

zebrainflames 2020-10-11 09:29

A great rection game! :)

The difficulty seemed to fluctuate a bit, at least on my second attempt - is there some mechanism that'd make the track from the train to the damsel shorter as levels go by?

joleon 2020-10-11 14:56

Pretty simple and a little bit repetitive game.

But the music and sound effects, and art style and animations - all of it is just gorgeous!

Good job :)

mcovert 2020-10-11 18:27

Really cute! Did wish there was a little bit more going on, got 'boring' after a few repetitive days, but the art was amazing enough to stick around a little longer.

onkel-mo 2020-10-11 19:47

Nice game, loved the art and music. Gets a bit repetitive after a while, but I guess that's the idea ;)

d-studios 2020-10-11 21:52

I liked that the game had simple and easy to understand instructions. This made the game accessible for me. I also liked the retro style of the game displayed by the pixel art and the simple soundtracks. I, however, found the game to not really be fun because I felt that there were not many adrenaline-inducing moments. There were not many moments where I barely saved the damsel in the nick of time or was close to saving the damsel.

badpiggy 2020-10-12 08:33

This was a nice entry. The art was simple but really great. The music was nice but could a little repetitive. I felt that there a lot of aspects of the game which were a little underutilised but it is a compo game so you had only so much time. The current system you have in place can either make an impossible section or make a really easy one. The design seemed a little too simple but either way, it's a great entry. Nice job

flying-basement-studios 2020-10-15 21:45

I like graphics and music

derek-volker 2020-10-17 20:54

I liked of how it was simple but fun at the same time. The graphics and the music create a nice ambience and makes the gameplay a pleasant experience. It just get really repetitive quickly, but we are stuck in a loop, aren't we?

homeworld 2020-10-18 07:52

Flashback to my pico8 days, very cool! On my best run I got to 23 days, but the train spawned too close to the damsel to be physically able to reach her. The tree collision also fucked me over a few times. Great entry!

felixmcfelix 2020-10-21 22:54

Music and art style were wonderfully kitschy, I had a great time (24 loops)! Very very stylish, you have a good feel on how to make a game feel polished in such a short timespan. Good job!

tomhunt 2020-10-26 02:04

I really enjoyed the simplicity of the game and the style of the audio and visuals. I also liked the not-so-subtle allusion to heroes eventually making a mistake after many repetitions of a seemingly simple task.
