LD45 — Start with nothing

Untitled by Josh6680 2019-10-08T22:06:38Z

o.png Figuring out mechanics was a little tricky, i think that game would strongly benefit from having some way of saying to player that he picked up some wall, and some transition of that process, anyway, it was a pleasure, hats off for creating it without any engine :)

Dungeon Crawler by Rialgar 2019-10-23T22:48:15Z

I love games that not overengineer fun, this was really cool, i would love to play some more expanded version with puzzles, it would be also great to see what are the stats of all opponents. I also found a bug where right after loosing game when i defeated first blob i got message that i won the game :/

Compo rules!

Singularity by dob 2019-10-21T20:59:14Z

Really unique gameplay, those moving starts create nice visual effects. If i have to point something out, some transitions, and option to look at those flying stars for a little longer :)

Armistice by frenchie 2019-10-13T01:40:00Z

I think you did awesome job. The number of levels, friendly UI and consistent graphics made me feel like a real engeneer! Sometimes I don"t really get how physics of my ship work, but it was still very playble. The fact you managed to do this in just 48 hours is udoubtedly very impressive. *Congrats!*

Deep Station Fine by ancient-pixel 2019-10-09T19:34:33Z

We reanny niked scifi comedy vibe, and the way we tank :)i wound reanny nike to see more of it. Thanks a not AncientPixen(@ancient-pixel)

Home Sweet Home by karreg 2019-10-16T20:39:00Z

Like above, it's the second time during LD45 i've seen a game about homeless person.

Great game, it doesn't look *"jam-ish"* at all, looks more like a finished product. Really nice soundtrack, and art.

I wouldn't call it **fun** game, because it doesn't make you feel good, but it makes you think.

Revenge of the Waffles by ristoretto 2019-10-09T19:54:20Z

I think im gonna eat some waffles now

It needs some polish still, but i had good time playing that. Does it have some sort of ending? I managed to get to 9, but is there any max score (@ristoretto)?

Press Start For Nothing by evilobjective 2019-10-08T22:34:06Z

Thank you for that calming experience, really well executed(godot face as particles ;D), i was stuck a little with black screen at end, but finally i read your post that it was the end :) I think that without any branching paths its even better, because its more like a short humoristic movie that you play a part in, not an experience called "what did i miss". Thanks!

Void Drifter by RampageBunneh 2019-10-08T20:04:54Z

Great art, cool sounds and retro atmosphere. Short introduction scene is super cool and we really wish that there would be second level <3 maybe some asteroids are too fast to be avoided and could be slower? Really well executed small retro game, thanks!

- V O I D - by AtomFox0213 2019-10-23T20:26:14Z

Hi really cool atmosphere(until the ending screen, i found that music a little bit cheesy and out of context a bit...). Single thing i think would help, would be to change cursor when it is over something you can interact with. Anyway i was really into it, great entry!

Terminal Reset by fusionnist 2019-10-16T22:08:49Z

Hi you put really a lot work into this, i enjoyed it much, platformer levels could be a little bit harder thou, maybe some environmental logic puzzles as rest moment between fast-paced top down shooter arenas. Also i had little problems with jumping, something was a little bit off i think with timing. Anyway i had a great time finishing it - really nice perspective change with last boss- *refreshing* . Thanks for the game!

Doors by N4tticus 2019-10-18T23:29:47Z

FTL inspiration is very clear, altough i think that being AI on a spaceship could have its own space in games(A space oddysey). Had great time, maybe some rules needs to be told more implicitly(crew can open doors even if they are locked if they have enough time), and maybe some other system of destroying fungus(fire kills it?) to create more tension in strategic decissions. Propably even some more explenetion would be great for whole Suspicion system(even in few games i didnt get it when its getting up)

Magic Escape by Xephrys 2019-10-13T19:04:13Z

Hey, i liked graphics a lot i also think that magic atmosphere was pretty cool. Nice escape room-ish game, a little bit too short maybe. I would really like to see more.

All Hallow's Harvest by SethPaxton 2019-10-09T19:15:04Z

Great artstyle, and art overall, cool spooky mood and fun gameplay. The only thing i would change is some ledderboard to see how good can i get over few games in a row :) Really like it!

The Daily by huskitch 2019-10-08T22:08:40Z

Incredible game, thanks for that!

Ok, thats not enough. That experience is great, i think that if that would be polished only a little bit more i could pay for playing it.

Shi no ganbo by Simon Rahnasto 2019-10-10T19:19:34Z

I dont know what to say... This Game is gibberish, awful and should never been made. WORST GAME EVER. . . . Just kidding, best game on LD45 yet

Catsaway by A.Bond 2019-10-24T21:48:27Z

I think that adding to that game those scary music and red accents(especialy end-screen) was a little bit too much, really nice artstyle and mood though. I think that keeping your score after dying would mean a lot to the player(maybe even highscore).

Rubber Duck Genesis by Rayne 2019-10-08T18:52:45Z

That was trippy indeed. REALLY finely polished 1 minuter that left us wondering what would happen next if the game would be a bit longer. Mood and sounds are really cool, quite an experience.

Small Mouse, BIG SHOES! by UnitedFailures 2019-10-09T20:09:37Z

Got thrown out of the second level into the sky and out of the world. Damn you big-something-goat-like-monster, i will get you!

Terminal by jaydubbyasee 2019-10-09T22:32:18Z

Really cool, only problem was with falling speed-it was hard to control falldown movement. Loved it! <3

Terminal by jaydubbyasee 2019-10-10T08:53:04Z

@jaydubbyasee looking forward to next version :)

KOLENdor by MaxKlimenok 2019-10-27T21:02:20Z

Hi, thank you for the game. Art is looking cool, the plot and atmosphere are great too! Also, I really loved your sense of humor hidden in the game. The only thing that was a bit frustrating for me was the randomnes of the tiles. I felt, I could lead my people till the end of the story, and than (again) I step on the wrong land.. All in all, I really enjoyed it.

"Start with nothing" by Beetrootmonkey 2019-10-09T21:42:58Z

Adultery run by spider__the second 2019-10-08T20:07:28Z

Why the hell we don't have any clothes on!?!

oh, i get it now...

Adultery run by spider__the second 2019-10-08T20:09:45Z

s.png thanks for the game, ponds are the best!

Noth INC. by Dongle 2019-10-23T22:36:47Z

@squeele I totally agree, also the graphics fit gameplay well. It just needs a little bit more time :)

Entanglement by cassowary 2019-10-21T23:05:13Z

Reached level 17 when accidentally refreshed page.. really nice puzzles, perfect difficulty curve :) glad i give it a try, some sounds would make big difference, maybe some graphics also could have been improved ;) really like it

Hide It / Break It / Pay It by Raivk 2019-10-09T21:22:07Z

big.png

Thanks for the game! We really enjoyed playing it. The music and how it evolves makes you feel the tension of passing time. The only aspect that was a bit confusing was the intro (yeah, we waited and nothing really happened except for the full music loop... twice :D)

Hide It / Break It / Pay It by Raivk 2019-10-10T13:02:37Z

@raivk i think that no messages were displayed at all, nor controls ...

Spirited Back by Tomssuli 2019-10-10T20:38:16Z

I enjoyed playing this rainy game, especially the beginning (very good implementation of the theme). I think that some indication of items needed for people around would be nice, maybe some layering in displayed graphics(in front of player and behind player moving with paralax effect). Thanks for the game

Substructure by Mateusz Wojtkowski 2019-10-09T19:43:38Z

It really looks like intro to something big, story based maybe? nice music and everything, i would really like to know what happens next!

Aphantasia by kristinamay 2019-10-24T22:06:35Z

Hey! Thanks for the game, *LOVE2D* rules! I really appreciate the way you used the real desease to create the feeling of.. startintg with nothing.

The only wish I have is that the audio track was a little longer, so that it wouldn't loop so often...

Sneeter by bubblewandgames 2019-10-08T19:32:08Z

Really cute esthetics and color palette. Game would really shine if there was music in it. Kept playing for 15 minutes without undrstanding how you get the points, but this is how social media works, right?, until i understood. Or didn't i? No i did.

Fairytiles by fre 2019-10-10T21:15:08Z

Really well executed! I had a great time playing it :) Playing with anagrams is a really cool concept(actually my game is also based on something similiar ;D), intruguing story, good humor. Overall: perfect entry!

Force of Nature by RedZ0ner 2019-10-16T21:45:39Z

Thanks for the game, i really like those strategic-economic games, it really have potiential for becoming something bigger in my opinion. As mediyaz said it would strongly help the game if spamming cross plants wouldn't be as strong, and it humans would attack more viciousely :) Anyway great entry!

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-08T22:17:07Z

@jonas-michael under "x" sign at right top corner there is whole menu with achievements and help, you can move mouse over specific icons(like mouse) and get information about the controls. In simple words you can place other types of nodes([anagram maker]/[letter creator]) with middle mouse button, hope this helps :)

@demuss making time speed-up was on my todo list, but it didnt make it finally :)

@nisovin i know, there was just not enough time, LOVE2D is demanding and it took quite some time to work everything else in time:)

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-09T21:35:31Z

@honey-pony thanks for feedback! I will keep in mind for next GameJams to not capture the mouse, timing is indeed a little problematic, i make it disappear to avoid other problems with joining words/letters, and for forcing player to use other methods to create letters like x=o+i, but it would be one of the first things to repair

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-09T21:47:16Z

@honey-pony yeah i know, you are completely right, i choose the simplest design solution to adress this problem and, as you say, it wasn't the right one. I think that cap on number of gates could be overkill, some solution could be that you cannot divide line into two, so every word/letter comes everywhere in the same time

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-09T22:57:43Z

@shubart actually this was one thing that costed me 3 hours and i couldnt make it to scroll to middle of the screen eventually(i was tired i think ;) ), also you can press backspace to center yourself again :)

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-10T21:19:15Z

@velvetlobster Hi! That was my starting idea really, only small additions(letter collider-> turning letters into others) were made. Glad You liked it!

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-14T17:02:10Z

@catie-jo Thanks! Glad you liked it, i know that small tutorial would make a HUUGE diffrence, but i struggled to make it in time anyway. I'm now starting to work on post-jam version, tutorial its one of main tasks.

@raivk Thank you for kind words!

@dane-tesla I know its hard to get it at first, my fault with not giving enough information in game... thank you very much for playing :) Dzięki ;)

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-14T19:13:23Z

@gamefive Hi, there is help in he game under x sign in the rigjt top corner(or Esc key) i know that i should create tutorial, its game biggest problem...

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-17T13:18:49Z

@justcamh thank you very much for playing and critique! I am currently working on post jam version(started 2 days ago) and i have fixed up a lot of things already like desynchronization, camera zooming to origin not to center of the screen, few bugs in achievements and now i am working on save system and time speeding up. If you are interested i can keep you posted :)

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-21T16:06:47Z

@adhesion hey, thanks for comment :), i am currently working on postjam version because of all amazing feedback i received, i already repaired some of the major issues( zoom, desynchronization, some achievement problems, lack of save) and i plan to repair others(screen size and key bindings-for people without middle mouse button). I think i will post it on itchi soon :D. The biggest issue i think is lack of some tutorial, but i still struggle with how to wrap my head around it :)[not the technical part, but minimalistic UI not destroying this void feeling]. Thanks again!

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-23T20:36:17Z

@dob Thank you very much for the comment! The thing with getting those early letters is to add some higher ones together: to get 'a' you can add for example 'g' and 't' (7+20=27 => 27 % 26==1 = "a"). I know i should have add more explanation to that mechanic, and i know that there are some 'sync' problems(when letters/words are arriving not exactly when they should, so they do not create a anagram even if it exist).

I will post repaired version tomorrow or the day after as "post-jam", so propably you could play it a little while longer :D.

Thanks again for kind words!

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-24T21:22:19Z

@FinnThePirate Thanks for comment! For music we used software synths and modified recorded sounds(aquarium for example :D).

In the beginning there was NOTHING. by Palemek 2019-10-25T00:19:48Z

@rialgar @dob @adhesion @justcamh @dane-tesla @velvetlobster @honey-pony @jaydubbyasee Thank you guys for all your comments! If you would like to give the game the second try i just uploaded post-jam version with little fixes(listed in description), nothing big just polished few most annoying (and easy to fix)things. Because of all this **incredibly** warm welcome i have strength now to continue going down this path! Thank you and all others for your help!

I hope someone will win the game someday :)

Dream of Quantum String by Ydoc124 2019-10-16T21:29:15Z

I fell down the clicker path and clicked space around quadrylion times, nice example of making clicker game with story. Great adventure, thanks!

He knew it was good by Demuss 2019-10-13T01:01:44Z

I've managed to beat the whole game! A bit laggy sometimes :) <3 Nevertheless i loved the feeling of making your own world your own way. Also loved the interactions between objects! In full version I would like to see more of them as well as some special achievements. That was great. **It made me feel that I would be great god :)**

NULL by Christos Avramis 2019-10-08T22:55:33Z

Hey, nice game flow, altough i had problems with collisions(i think they are a little too big).

Finished it!

Sticky Squares by Friedrich Eibl 2019-10-18T23:17:31Z

Android game was a suprise, i think that some more explenation about what is going on with those sticky squares would be helpful. Gratulations again for Android platform idea!

Venus Ascending by MisterKeefe 2019-10-09T21:35:52Z

Really nice concept, although i think that game would benefit from some mechanic that would force the player to use more than one mouth all level. I found myself with my fingers over specific keys for one word only on harder levels. Had good time with this, good job!

Sounds of Nothingness by VectorWolf 2019-10-08T19:29:30Z

Its impressive that you wrote your own engine, i loved a skeleton on spikes in the pit of flames <3 and the player animation is going to stay with me for a while :D. Though i think that control for shooting bullet should be changed to smth else that is easier to use

Sand&Sea by CaptAndrey 2019-10-16T20:59:01Z

I didn't expect this type of gameplay **at all** -really big suprise. Discovering the mechanics(without reading the instructions) was tricky and fun :D Nice holiday-like experience!

Rekindling Of Iron by HKSpadez 2019-10-08T20:22:03Z

Level design is a bit frustrating and life is a little bit too low in my opinion(i know you should start with nothing, but man...), i will finish it someday :)

Keep Me Burning by NavrcL 2019-10-27T21:30:06Z

I really appretiated the animations and music <3. The game is very polished - it really shows, it's made by proffesionals. Nice mechanics (although I'm not really a platrformer type). All in all - really good entry!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Intergalactic DJ by Palemek 2020-04-25T10:33:31Z

Hey thank you for your comments, we know that our has few problems (performance especially and blocking bugs) we are currently working on postjam version, and we are going to upload it in few days.

@pr00thmatic thanks for the report we are fixing it now :)

@craig-cordeiro our game is mostly narrative but there is a lose condition. We know that aliens reactions are not very visible right now but we are polishing animations and gameplay :)

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Terra Nova by LTyrosine 2020-10-21T17:54:33Z

My maximum was 453, i played it 3 times i think (it sa lot of time isnt it?) cool idea, camera was my biggest problem whole game, also in the late game it gets pretty click-intensive as i had to micromanage everything, some type of automation to buy would be nice. Good job!

SPÅRVAGN by Dustyroom 2020-10-09T16:45:18Z

Art style is cool, on point 3D art and styling. The problem for me was it ended just when it got interesting. Also some minor tweek in mechanics like: only one train can be stopped at a time, would create much more gameplay depth

VintageTime by maskinmask 2020-10-21T17:28:51Z

Graphics definitely brought me here, great job at capturing such vintage look, in gameplay its really neat idea, it relly needs instant restart, because sometimes you have to wait really long time before you can correct your mistake, also more levels would be nice. Well done!

Loop Line! by Sacer 2020-10-09T16:40:22Z

I found out that car can crash into the train if it is in tunnel below us, also wagons do not have collisions.

Your imagination is pretty wild.

Choo choo

waveloop by radmars 2020-10-17T16:44:11Z

Graphic simplicity was great(thou a little blurry at moments), and discovering a song was really innovative, but in gameplay i was feeling more like i was testing each of the waves, instead of trying to adjust them. In the terms of being a musical experience, it was awesome!

Stuck in a Loop (station) by erikiene 2020-10-16T10:20:47Z

Snare room got me longest, but on tvRoom i thought im gonna give up, fortunately i read in the comments that someone managed to do that so i didnt quit :D great entry, had a lot of fun playing it!

Really clever mechanic, although some kind of in game tutorial would be really nice, "is this really the end"? :P

Loop Train by OddSocks 2020-10-07T22:01:18Z

Thanks for the warning :) the AI moving always towards a player is a little bit tricky, as it prevents any planing really. in regard to beating the level. Also some additional UI regarding the stats would be cool. Also fullscreen have some problems, but its propably just unity... Otherwise solid entry :)

Viktor by Palemek 2020-10-07T20:42:45Z

@macaroni-dev thanks, glad you liked it!

@loren-heubert-aubry thanks for the bug report, i knew about it, but since i was doing it in pure js without any engine it was hard to think about optimization during development. I hope that in the next jam i'll manage to optimize game in the process :) @nikolaj thanks for playing, i loved creating screen shake(just shaking the WEBGL canvas :D ), i know that maybe i've a streched the theme a bit, but i've never really created any top down, and i was completely in top-down shooter mood :)

@m8rix hey super glad to hear you found it cool! as i explained @loren-heubert-aubry i didnt find the time too optimise it ... next time it will be potato-proof!

@pluisjen Hey, i really tried too make game hard, maybe overdid it a little ;P

@flying-dog-fish if i'll ever come back to it to polish it a little, ill change level design a bit! Thanks for your insight!

@fc85057 Hey, thanks for such a long comment! I'll take a look at this delay you were talking about, and if i'll ever be making a post-jam version i'll fix it!

@peche-et-tradition-1867 Glad to be compared to such a beatifull titles :)

Skicret Agent by SachaWitto 2020-10-09T20:28:31Z

It was hard for me to understand what is going on in the beginning, but later on very solid entry, congrats guys!

Survive the Temple by Duckonaut 2020-10-06T15:46:22Z

Hi, great entry! Only issue i had was with big collisions at dash, it could be more precise: when i tried to dash toward something i often bumped into things around - it was hard to hit the mark. Very polished COMPO game :)

Could you tell me what engine did you use?

Press the Buttons by FluffyGameDev 2020-10-06T17:12:03Z

Very cute "EscapeRoom"-type game, button presses on dial pads are a bit inacurate thou. I enjoyed it a lot! :D

Grabby - The Ultimate Grabbinator by rucksack 2020-10-15T20:59:53Z

One heck of a game! Really ejoyed it, it was the most humorous game i played so far!

PS. Also most feature complete! =*1000

Express Without Remorse by alpacalypse 2020-10-06T19:03:31Z

It creeped me out a bit (my wife says a lot) :) bullet hell is always fun.

Only thing i would suggest is to make buttons more "buttonish": i couldnt figure out at first what is clickable, and what is not.

Dolen Days by James Clark 2020-10-06T18:48:43Z

This game is the worst. I thought that games on LD are supposed to be fun and cheerfull. This almost made me cry, so good job guys(angry!)

Seriously: great job, only thing to mention is that light in his romm and transition between screens are not "pixelish" and are out of style. Apart from that: great entry!

There cant be told enough praise about it. Brilliant and funny game, excelent execution.

The only thing that pops into my head is some kind of transition between scenes.

Congratulations!
