Stumbling upon meaning in an old town abandoned to its fate by ghust1995 2019-10-08T00:43:22Z
Really interesting. This feels like those old school Encarta multimedia experiences. Really dig it.

Funny dialog. The pixel art is really great. Combat is a bit simple, but cool game overall.
Man the combat in this game is so satisfying. Love screenshake on some of the weapons which really gives weight to them. Also loved the ASCII art <3.
Love the atmosphere of the game, the music is great. Wish it were longer!
An fun new take on snake, but with dope music. Love it.
@pythooonuser Thanks for playing! Yeah I built in hidden vim-style controls. You can move left and right with h/l, and jump with j. I was going to build a level themed around the vim editor, but I didn't have time to finish the mechanics for it.
@fallingflatstudios yeah the I was trying to fuss around with a gravity multiplier on falls because my character felt too floaty, but I couldn't get it quite right.
@justicepro Yeah I got that feedback from some of my friends as well, I'll need to reword the help description post jam.
@palemek Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it was something I wasn't too happy about either. Was trying to avoid making it too floaty but went too far the other way. Definitely going to look into tweaking post jam.
@kooshy Glad you liked it!
Cool concept. Love the funny card descriptions.
This is really fun. I love it's simplicity. It would be cool to add a couple of other enemy types that move faster or have different behavior patterns. I also really like the retro 80's vibe. The scan lines is a really nice touch. Music is awesome as well.
The writing in this game was fantastic. I actually played it several times because I was really invested in getting the true ending. I also really like the reduced color palette. It really tied back into the underlying narrative. A couple of comments on some general player experience. Because we always end up going back to the notepad for dialog choices, I feel like it should just pop back up right after the dialog, or at least pop up quicker when you mouse over it. It creates a lot of friction and doesn't really feel good when you have to mouse over it, then click and wait for the animation before you can proceed.
Great humor. Art style is really cute.
Really fun game. I love all the small details you added like the footprints in the sand and the blood effects when close to death. The pixel art is great. I do have one gripe about the camera. It's a bit overly sensitive an disorienting. Other than that, fantastic game.
This is great.
Really love the art direction of this game. I really wish the gun particle effects were hand drawn. They felt a little out of place with the rest of the stuff. Really satisfying platformer controls as well.
The character design and art in general was super cute! Like many others have mentioned, the camera needs some work. The ability zoom out with mouse wheel and move your character's forward direction independent of the camera angle would make it a lot easier to control, and also let us spend more time looking at that crab face.
Really cool concept. Really digging the atmospheric audio and the art aesthetics. Also I listened to that full sound clip at at the intro  Getting factorio vibes from the pipeline assembly of letters. Also really liked the goal / achievement system you built in.
I found the platforming really smooth and satisfying. Loved the vibe and the music. Man the difficulty ramp up after introducing the hunger mechanic was brutal. I really think the game would have benefitted with a checkpoint 3/4 of the way through the sequence after the npc gives you the hunger bar. After dying tons of times, I noticed that bunnies started spawning in walls and some became unreachable which made things a little harder.

Other than that great submission!
Pretty funny. Great voice acting
Cool art style. The controls were a bit unresponsive in Firefox and Chrome browsers on Windows. Seems to work fine in Edge though. The first and third levels were great, the 2nd seemed a little out of place and too short / easy. Overall cool concept.
@fallingflatstudios Yup controls are much more responsive now. Great job!
Awesome game. The mechanic is super fun, and the style looks so freakin metal! You should really try to polish this post-jam. Is there any way to regain health?
I noticed a bug, if you just start aggressively putting down tiles, the cost reaches max int, and then the resets to 0. Interesting idea, if you can squash some bugs, and add a bit more variety to the type of ecosystem you can put down, or add something that can throw off the equilibrium, I could see this becoming a cool game.
Fantastic writing and music! This was really dark, but I loved that, it really made each choice feel pretty significant. Awesome job!
This game was super cozy. Loved the smooth vibes music, and the artwork.
This is really creative. Manipulating the speech is really fun. Love the artwork, humor, and the voice acting. Also got deeply engrossed in the story
@freakyzelga Mac builds are tricky :sob: need to figure out code signing and notarization. I'll try to see if I can get it working later this week.
@freakyzelga I finally got around to doing a Mac build if you're still interested in trying it out.
Great artwork. Like other's have said would have been nice to have the level of the scroll be faster and the plain controls move a little quicker. There were also some issues where delivery houses spawned behind the crate warehouses, but seems like a pretty minor issue. Overall really solid jam entry!
I really loved this game. I was really digging the artstyle. Really had a retro art style. Reminded me of lemmings or those old nintendo / arcade games like joust. The game mechanics were really clever. Also the understated music was a nice touch as well. Fantastic job!
Really challenging game, but pretty fun. Some of the obstacle and delivery spot spawns can seem a bit unforgiving at times (though I might just be a scrub). I did really like the clean sprite art work.
Love this. Super simple mechanic, but really fun and addictive. Love the clean spritework as well.
I'm a sucker for typing games. This is really neat. Love the artwork. The music is also nice to vibe out to. Also love the Animal Crossing-esque audio when the player character speaks.
Bummer dude also no dice playing the game. Running windows 11. Nvidia RTX 3080. Encountering the same fragment shader issue that ismael reported. If you get this working, I'd definitely like to give this another shot.
Hey good effort making a game without engine. The flight physics were pretty cool. Some things that could have been better were the replacing the grid lines that appeared with stuff like clouds or other fixed objects that could give you a frame of reference that you were moving because it felt a bit disorienting. Thanks for getting it playable though!
Really polished art and really nice interface. I think the game would benefit with having the camera zoomed out a bit more so the player can better anticipate what's coming at them and evade/shoot. Also the collision boxes seemed like they may have been overly big. Great entry though!
Really fun game and the sprite work was :chefskiss: top notch. Great job!
