Really challenging game, but pretty fun. Some of the obstacle and delivery spot spawns can seem a bit unforgiving at times (though I might just be a scrub). I did really like the clean sprite art work.

stalemeat 2023-05-02 08:04

I like this one. The delivery system is very funny looking. This didn't affect my rating but having a sound when you switch packages would be a nice touch. The game was very responsive. A very good entry, I had fun.

robonaut121 2023-05-02 11:17

@stalemeat The sounds were mostly copied from my other projects at the last minute (except for the package delivered sound effect), so I'm not surprised I missed a sound effect lol

ominusgalaxy44 2023-05-07 15:27

this game was really well polished, especially for a game jam game. it's both challenging and fun :)

goddoesplaydice 2023-05-09 16:41

I am always fascinated by such a stylish and polished visualы at a game jam. Although it is very difficult to play, I still enjoyed it.

jajo 2023-05-09 16:41

This was incredibly hard, and the sound could have been better, but generally was a really fun experience. Incredibly well made entry (:

Fun idea! It runs smoothly, but I hated the controls at first though. ;) Firstly, I don't like jumping with space bar, especially not in combination with WASD. At the start, it felt like there wasn't any time to aim with the mouse, so I thought it should have been a button on the keyboard as well. Later, I just ditched the steering with WASD, and just focused on SPACE, E and LMB. That worked better. It actually got a little addictive, trying to get further and further! I got till 257.

I would have liked (two different) sounds when changing packages.

I like the graphics and the color scheme. Well done!

robonaut121 2023-05-12 21:35

@papaver Sorry I'm late replying to this! I agree with what you have said about too many controls, but I feel like I need the mouse, as sometimes you need to aim behind you. I wouldn't exactly be sure how to handle it when it come to binding shoot to a singular button instead of mouse - throwing packages straight ahead would almost always over skim over the manholes in this game, and diagonally down isn't that intuitive, I guess I could have made aiming work with WASD, but idk...

Also, what would you propose I use instead of space for jumping with WASD? (I couldn't exactly use arrow keys because of the aforementioned mouse taking up the right hand.) Space is used in most games - mostly first person shooters but also some platformers that use mouse too (eg. Terraria, despite it not strictly being a platformer genre-wise). The last time I remember W / up arrow being bound to jump was in some Scratch platformers, and clicking feels kinda wrong unless there are no other buttons (eg. Geometry Dash, despite me using spacebar for that game unlike most players). I think once or twice I considered binding jump to J while using WASD, which sounds cursed, but I guess it kinda makes sense when you think that it's the same hands used for them buttons on a gamepad. In this game, though, my right hand was taken up, effectively leaving spacebar as my only option in my mind. (Also, I'm quite comfortable with it, having gone out my way to rebind some game's keys with arrow keys to WASD / Space since the arrow keys on my laptop's keyboard are squished together in an uncomfortable way.)

Sorry for the essay of a response to a three-day-old comment, but I'm curious what you would have done with my game's controls :'-)

Hard game, but quite addicting!

Things I liked: - Pixel graphics, and sound effects (although if you re-use sound effects from previous jams, I don't think you should submit your game to be rated on Audio, in the spirit of the 72 hour time limit and fairness) - Intense moments where I need to switch quickly between packages, aim, and also not crash. - Simple mechanics that are easy to pick up.

Things that could be better: - The packages feel a little buggy sometimes with their behavior traveling through past walls. Are they even supposed to do that? - Getting 'snagged' on a wall. It feels really bad to get caught on a wall and die. Sometimes I just get stuck and can't break loose. Since the screen is so narrow, there's not a lot of wiggle room.

Games like this would benefit a lot from having a leaderboard!

Cool game! The visuals and theme are great and the gameplay is fun and intense. I wish the game was a little more forgiving, in packages missed (like lives) and that there was a bit more space for the player horizontally as one slip up makes you crash. There was also a lot of spread out controls that I wished were a bit more condensed, maybe having jump binded both to w and space as well as putting lmb and rmb be different packages? Or even just W as jump and space as pkg switch. I noticed as well that sometimes as I was trying to slide a package in it wouldn't register. I liked the concept and execution of the game in the end though~ Good job!

thi4guer4 2023-05-12 22:28

It was kind of tough at the beginning, but it turned really funny when I got the mechanics. By the way, loved the graphics!

papaver 2023-05-13 12:15

@robonaut121 Thanks for your reply! No problem, we all have lives outside LD ;)

I know, finding nice/logical key bindings is quite a struggle!

Actually I don't play that many games, so I am not so used to WASD with my left hand. But since I have the arrow keys in my head, I would like W to be jumping, so that the keys for moving around are close to each other on the keyboard (this is of course personal taste).

One problem for me was that the E for changing package type is pressed with the same finger as the D for going right. Perhaps that could be RMB? Then all the package dealing is with the right hand. (And that gives more freedom for options for moving around with the other hand, and you could give the player the option to move with the arrow keys.)

What about not aiming at all, but you just have to be close enough to a manhole to deliver a package, and that the package will "autopilot" to the manhole? But maybe that is too boring.

[I know those squashed arrow keys on a laptop, they are horrible! :frowning: I do like the arrow keys on my USB keyboard, they are nicely aligned was well. (While the W in WASD is a bit too much too the left).]

robonaut121 2023-05-14 15:30

@papaver W as alternate jump and RMB as switch would probably have been better - I'm not exactly bothered with a post-jam version of this game as I'm not that proud of it, but I'll try and consider the awkwardness of controls more thoroughly next time!

@francis I probably shouldn't have opted into audio since only a singular sound effect was made within the jam period :-/ also I have no idea what caused those bugs so sorry (probably Unity's Physics being janky as usual...)

pouyan-shekarikiani 2023-05-16 07:27

This is like the dark souls of endless runners lol. great game i really liked the gameplay and the clean art work.

luriq 2023-05-18 13:56

Very challenging and polished game!

ardorugus 2023-05-18 16:59

Interesting graphics, however hard to handle.

xsangyhix 2023-05-18 21:45

Your art style was consistent and communicated an apocalyptic setting. The sounds were for the most part fitting and satisfying. On the other hand handling was very linnear, it made controlling the character less enjoyable. The game is also challanging and has no tolerance for errors. For a game to be enojyed - you could think about a system to give the player a second chance. Other than that, the crates sometimes seemingly miss the target and sit next to it.

richard-baltrusch 2023-05-18 22:31

Not a bad entry! I got to 197m before giving up :) I really like the detailed visuals, I imagine your focus for this game was here.

As it is at the moment, the game is a little hard to pick up (ended up reading the description out of the game after a while and that helped) and quite unforgiving, as you die the moment you make a wrong delivery. I feel like a health system where you get at least 3 chances would allow for some mistakes and also provide more room for new players to improve.

A more prominent icon to show which item you are currently holding would be nice, because as it is the player needs to focus a lot on the path ahead and can easily lose track of what item he is holding.

Overall good job!

laserpanzerwal 2023-05-18 23:06

Looking good, though some deliveries are almost impossible to make when they spawn right behind a high obstacle. Also the font is hard to read. Besides that, a solid entry.

sakii 2023-05-18 23:20

This game has absolutely no mercy. :D It was fun though, you nailed the 8 bit style very well

kyle-farwell 2023-05-19 15:19

Challenging but great fun. Love the style :)
