* graphics are good and work well for the gameplay * platforming sections need some work, the air speed control, and how the wall jumps work, make for a very frustrating platforming * audio works * story elements are interesting.

notexplosive 2019-10-07 16:47

I like how you gain mechanics over time, that's super cool! The animation work is really solid too. I got stuck in walls twice which didn't feel great but half of gamedev is wrangling third party physics engines so I don't blame you for that. Great submission!

dock-frankenstein 2019-10-07 17:43

It's fun and quite rewarding. Good job!

danferb 2019-10-07 18:28

Damn, those graphics are nice! Sound and music is also great! I may have a bit of a problem with how some controls respond, but I seriously don't know how would I fix them, :X. There's something weird going on with the gloves, like hanging against a wall even though you just fell from that same wall and then some jumps are really really tight (maybe some coyote time could have helped?). Still, a very cool experience nonetheless!

ovidios 2019-10-07 20:32

I agree with the other commenters that the game looks great and getting and losing mechanics that really change the way you play (like how the hunger mechanic forces you to play less careful) is cool, but I *did* also glitched through walls a few times, getting me into this death trap, which I only got out by glitching through the wall again (since there's no reset button that I could notice.) Unbenannt.png I also felt like the jumping felt a bit off, and the portion of the level right after getting the hunger mechanic was insanely frustrating (especially since it had that part with the two upwards corridors, one of which is a dead end which felt pretty unfair to me).

But these things don't *ruin* the game. It was still pretty fun!

arzi 2019-10-07 22:28

I'm not really into platformers and generally suck at them, so this one was a bit too hard for me. I loved the simple art style and the animation was really good though!

drums 2019-10-08 00:23

This game was so smooth to play, and the the way it transitioned to a platformer was genius. I felt like I was Chell running around escaping Glados. It was just missing portals. Loved it a lot!

ropedog 2019-10-08 01:05

Very well polished entry! The movement and feel is very smooth, and lends itself well to platforming. Wall jumping is satisfying and works great. The way the mechanics are introduced is genius, and alters the gameplay dramatically. Sound and audio were both excellent as well. I did eventually get stuck in a wall when attempting to wall jump, but that only happened once. Great job!

jvolonte 2019-10-08 01:16

Nice graphics with plenty of mechanics! Pretty cool :D

svntax 2019-10-08 02:08

I like the progression in the mechanics. Sometimes I got stuck when landing on lasers and couldn't get out, so I'd lose all my hp in the end.

paulhocker 2019-10-08 03:58

a little glitchy -- wall jumping was iffy -- overall nice game -- great graphics and mood -- nice work

velvetlobster 2019-10-08 04:15

The art is very stylish, like the colors and the characters .. the hitboxes seem a bit glitchy which makes it weird to walk around Screenshot Capture - 2019-10-08 - 01-13-04.png Come on lets have a beer!

neverix 2019-10-08 06:46

Really polished and fun mechnics, cool artstyle, loved the "story", especially the ending.

lootgrounds 2019-10-08 10:06

played the itch.io version. overall a very solid entry though it gets too difficult towards the end, mostly due to far apart checkpoints. it was mentioned quite a lot but the wall jump mechanics need some tweaking.

quackqack 2019-10-08 10:44

Nice to play a fairly challenging platformer, although a lot of the difficulty comes from the wall jump being a bit tricky.

ghostgoatsgames 2019-10-08 16:41

Really cool game and idea. One of the better takes i've seen on the theme. Only complaint is the noise that plays when you hit a laser is about 200 times louder than it should be haha. Hurt my ears. Really good entry.

jaydubbyasee 2019-10-08 19:53

I found the platforming really smooth and satisfying. Loved the vibe and the music. Man the difficulty ramp up after introducing the hunger mechanic was brutal. I really think the game would have benefitted with a checkpoint 3/4 of the way through the sequence after the npc gives you the hunger bar. After dying tons of times, I noticed that bunnies started spawning in walls and some became unreachable which made things a little harder.

wallbunny.png

Other than that great submission!

zachabossaloler 2019-10-09 00:30

I tried this and its pretty cool. But i would recommend using Q and E. rather than Z and X. The keys can be very anoying to press.

donut-daria 2019-10-09 01:00

loved the artstyle, really inspiring me to up my aseprite game

congrats on a solid entry!

faiorb 2019-10-09 01:06

Art is great, and the animations are smooth! Good job on that.

About the gameplay, it's a nice plataform game. The wall grab mechanic was a little wanky, and the hunger-meter was the only think I didn't enjoy (Maybe it was too fast, I don't know).

Good job! And please, be nice to rabbits! 🐇

snowdrama 2019-10-09 01:35

Don't know how much I can add to these comments haha so I'll try and add something I didn't see.

The hitbox shifts slightly when turning around so in the green section with the series of short lasers to jump over I would jump over but be really close to the laser but I'd be okay but then I would turn around to adjust my position and I'd die because the hitbox shifts into the laser and then since knockback only hits you backwards compared to the player's facing direction and not away from the source of the hit, I would get stun locked and die.

After I got the prompt to return the things I'm not sure if it's intended but I was able to return the gloves 3rd and then was unable to complete the game because I could no longer wall jump up to return the other items.

frederikh 2019-10-09 06:03

Really good entry - love the music, characters and the changing feel for the world by getting new abilities.

It also has some hidden depth to it, like "how did I get here - what is this place?" and such. GJ!

almighty-games 2019-10-09 06:04

The movement seemed a bit too slow for a world that was so spread out. I enjoyed the pixel art graphics. The story really fit the theme. good job :)

herman-chau 2019-10-09 06:46

The additive and then subtractive mechanics were cool, definitely fit in with the theme very well. The small bits of dialogue on the characters were also really good.

I think air momentum was a bit too much and like @snowdrama, I couldn't complete the game after returning the gloves :/

paude 2019-10-09 07:52

Original and cute artstyle. Got the shirt and went down, couldn't go up again because there's too much gravity. Bonus points for being pixel-perfect!

bryvox 2019-10-09 08:09

Super cool use of the theme! I love the way you acquire new abilities. The music, art style and gameplay is excellent! :hearts:

banjaxe 2019-10-09 08:44

Nice pixleart and animations. I found there was a big difficulty spike at the first bunny+laser+hunger section. The jumping was quite tricky here and then dealing with hunger ontop it took me many attempts to get through it. Maybe another checkpoint needed at that part. Other than that I had no complaints, and enjoyed the game!

jin9310 2019-10-09 09:11

In the description you claim to be proud of your creation, and You should be! The hunger part is a real challenge and i love it! Really nice job you did! Well done

maxdmg 2019-10-09 18:14

Like a much better and more artful "DLC Quest". Really enjoyed the moment where it switches from "top down" to platformer. That moment really damn stands out and I love it a lot. The art is great and most platforming moments are well done. My only nitpick is that having z as the jump button drove me insane. I know that's kind of on me but still it was a drag on an otherwise flawless submission. Music and art were both great and the atmosphere really worked well with all the assets in the game. But yeah just that jump button was really rough.

enver-arco 2019-10-09 19:21

jumping control needs a bit of work, nice mood and graphics

kushimoto 2019-10-09 21:17

Very fun game, but the knockback on the hunger mechanic was super obnoxious. It made wall jumping impossible if hungry. I'm sure this was intentional, but it diminished the fun imo. Great game overall though.

karlipoppins 2019-10-10 04:59

Great game! loved the progression and character animation a la prince of persia! Great audio as well!

sharkwithlasers 2019-10-10 09:15

Loved the aesthetic of this game! The color palette, the pixel art, the music, the mood...all fantastic! Particularly loved the animation of the sword attack combo! I wish there was a reason to use the combo (all the enemies died in one hit lol). I really liked how the mechanics were introduced (and...removed) as well! Crazy to think this was all done in 48 hours!

Minor nitpicks: - I too found the laser-bunny-hunger section a bit too difficult/punishing. - The first part that was a bit frustrating was the jump with a horizontal laser on the bottom and a vertical laser at the end of the jump. The fact that hitting the vertical laser causes a guaranteed slow and painful death on the horizontal laser is quite punishing lol. My initial intuition for platforming is to hold back when my character is going too far forward in the air to reduce forward momentum. In this game, however, it would cause you to go in the opposite other direction (towards your doom on the horizontal laser). Took me awhile to figure out the proper way to get through it is to jump and release the forward key (instead of holding back). I'd prefer the backwards momentum to not be so drastic. (These movement physics remind me of the way Hollow Knight moves, but I think that lower horizontal air velocity/acceleration works better when precision platforming is required). - Didn't really understand the proper way to get passed the laser in the wall jump section. Just grinded it out until I got lucky with the timing. Took me a lot of tries lol. - I thought the drone AI was a bit interesting. It wouldn't attack for a very long time, and when it did, it was instantaneous. I'd rather it attack sooner, but have a windup animation indicating that it was attacking.

Overall, fantastic game! I'm glad I got through it and got to see the ending!

hcursino 2019-10-10 09:47

I was having a lot of fun until the creepy guy took his gloves back and then I got stuck because I couldn't wall jump anymore. Amazing game, really fun, nice flow of animations, movement speed, level design, bgm, sfx. Everything just fits together perfectly. Awesome work!

cyberstarlight 2019-10-10 13:24

The art is simple but charming!

Really cool that the game changed axes like that, top-down to platformer, really cool! I like how it keeps giving you mechanics to work with.

That cell guy was so creepy XD

Sadly I had to give up mid way, the game is too "tight", jumps need to be correct with little room for error, and once the hunger came in you also had to do everything on a very tight time, once the hunger ticks it makes you bounce so basically you're dead the moment the first hunger ticks. The same is with the HP bar, once you hit a laser you just bounce off to another laser until you die and you can't really do anything to escape..

I did love the NPCs and their dialogue, you can see this is very well made, and also pleasing to the eye, good job!

diaonic 2019-10-10 14:56

Art looks great, I loved the transition from top down to platformer. The difficulty ramped up pretty hard after getting the sword and I'm not in love with the controls, I'd like to see space as a jump button, it played pretty well on gamepad, but I couldn't find the attack button. Also don't forget to add the source so you get a grade ( compo requirement). Great work!

anticdope 2019-10-10 20:27

Exceptional beautiful. Wildy unforgiving. The portion of the game in which you get the hunger bar was extremely difficult, but I dont often play platformers so I may be the minority there. I had to give up after giving back the glove, as I could not find a way to proceed home.

namnam 2019-10-10 21:55

I love the pixel art and the minimalism of the color choice, but ended being frustrated by the gameplay, walljump that doesn't slide against the wall when the player goes up made the game so punitive, the came the hunger that prevent me to jump wall when i was starving, and the laser that doesn't kill us but was impossible to escape. But again your game looks great (sounds and music are also cool), I wish you will improve it and post a postjam version :)

jusw85 2019-10-11 16:55

I loved what I experienced in the game, the platforming, pixel art, etc. But the section after getting the hunger bar hard stumped me. I could get to final laser wall jump section reliably, but I failed that section so many times I had to give up. What I saw was great though!

ketura 2019-10-11 23:18

This is actually quite slick. I'm not a huge fan of the hunger getting snuck in as an unlockable, but it is what it is. The stunlocking on the various lasers for the most part negates any advantage to having HP most of the time, too, which made that upgrade feel a bit superfluous.

The movement itself is quite polished however and feels satisfying to move around with.

amerigo-gazaway 2019-10-16 07:17

Clever mechanics, love how the physics change when you get the coat. Cool minimalist artwork and great soundtrack!

tort60091 2019-10-19 17:49

I really like art style and animations. But the level design is bad, when character dying of hunger it's impossible play the game

I tried to complete this part 40 times and gave up I was very angry Screen Shot 2019-10-19 at 8.34.19 PM.png

And pls don't kill bunnies they are so cute ((

Anyway cool concept! =)

omiya-games 2019-10-20 04:13

I was wondering where the obligatory Ludum Dare Metroidvania went. Found it here.

The general method of unlocking things as you go along is really interesting, and traversing through the maze-like level is pretty cool. The graphics is beautiful, of course, and the audio, while could use more variety, is enough to set the mood. Writing was minimal enough to give enough character, but not to a point where it was annoying. And the ghost platforming is highly appreciated.

That said, boy, I often felt the level design and gating really needed some work. It is incredibly easy to soft-lock the game. I was able to identify at least 2 parts:

1. The early section if you miss the boots entirely and just don the jacket, the rest of the level becomes impossible to traverse. 2. When powers are removed, if one bothers to platform all the way to the wall-grabbing character, they lose the wall-grabbing power, and the rest of the level becomes impossible to traverse.

I've encountered numerous cases where the knock-back caused my character to bounce between 2 lasers very rapidly until death, which also given the game's lack of checkpoint placement towards the end of the level, created some very frustrating experience. While I think the game concepts are nice, both the lack of ability to restart the game or at least, reverse some decisions, as well as flawed level progression, made it difficult to appreciate the rest of the game's polish.

And, yeah, I, too, think wall grabbing controls needs some work.

p-r 2019-10-25 20:57

Very cool, not sure it was said before, but visually reminds me of prince of persia. I think the character movement when the hunger hits 0 is very distracting, could just take damage and make a sound.

glaciereclipse 2019-10-27 19:19

I had the same bug as Omiya Games, when I lost the glove ability and couldn't continue any more. Overall I really enjoyed it very solid entry

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-29 06:51

I really liked this game, especially how it shifts from a top down to a platformer once you get the shirt (I thought that was super clever), just the whole idea of getting upgrades that fundamentally change the game is great! One thing that was confusing to me was the behaviour of the enemy drones, they didn't seem to do anything, but to be fair I got stuck at the glove part, so maybe they do something later. The wall jump controls were really hard to use in my opinion, very finicky and you slide fast so there isn't much time for error. Overall a really solid game that needs a bit of tweaking with the controls. Great work!
