such a well fleshed out game! Congrats. The art looks amazing and the story is engaging as well. There's a nice sprinkle of humor in there as well. Great job making this.

taylor-reynolds 2019-10-07 23:07

Wow, the writing and the story art -- so fantastic! Love the colors too. Well done!!

ladypossum 2019-10-07 23:08

this is fantastic :D

jaydubbyasee 2019-10-07 23:11

Funny dialog. The pixel art is really great. Combat is a bit simple, but cool game overall.

plepletier 2019-10-07 23:26

Beautiful graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/jQitKM0J6Yc

drixide 2019-10-08 12:32

Amazing pixelart!

noobdev 2019-10-08 18:12

Everything about this game is amazing I just cant explain it with words. This game legit deserves to win or at least get an honorable mention. well done to you and your team. you guys rock!

nathan-wash 2019-10-08 19:03

I was chuckling through the whole thing. The ending hit a little too close to home about LD sequels though. The game is well thought out and actually takes some thought to get through the battles. I was also admiring the artwork through the whole thing, very cool. The credit music is a downright slapsterpiece.

One minute criticism: The defend ability should have an animation that plays for all the characters on the team like the heal ability so the player gets a visual clarification that it's a party effect. At first I thought the defend ability only affected the one character.

Absolutely great work, I love when LD games are so good I feel like I have to finish them.

paude 2019-10-08 19:09

Wow! Bonus points for those awesome catgirls lol, but negative points fot not being pixel-perfect. Congrats!

purrseus 2019-10-09 00:47

The writing is really strong and funny! Insane presentation, with incredible pixelart! I had so much fun with this. Seriously, it's 5 Stars easiliy. Even if it's more interactive story and less game. But it's an awesome story!

nathaniel-jensen 2019-10-09 02:28

So good! I don't know what else to say, this is just fantastic!

minibobbo 2019-10-09 03:16

Great entry. Very linear, but the art and writing was great and the sound fit in really well too.

I finished the game and will be waiting for the undead unicorn to come back stronger.

mimusangel 2019-10-09 07:19

The pixel is really well done!

t-bo 2019-10-09 07:22

I really like this game ! Beautiful characters and funny dialogs ! Cool story ! Amazing work ! Congrats !

afestivedolphin 2019-10-09 07:22

Wow really fun! Really thought this part was really funny. I'd love to see more in the future!!! Also the combat is really fun! firefox_2019-10-09_01-18-48.png

rhymar 2019-10-09 07:27

please please make a sequel and and longer story^^

guttykreum 2019-10-09 07:29

Great pixel art work and accompanying music. Visual novels are not usually my type of game but I enjoyed this one enough to see the credits roll!

redimension-games 2019-10-09 07:36

Very neat graphics. Well done.

gregoire 2019-10-09 07:46

I finish the game without Mordina I do not think it was wanted ahah

mindtricks 2019-10-09 07:54

Really cool game, liked both the graphics and the writing

2019-10-09 07:54

We don't understard how did you make this SUGOI game in time! The character design is astonishing, my friend here totally identified herself with Silvanna. Great job, we really enjoyed playing the game!!!

arzi 2019-10-09 08:23

Thanks for the comments everyone! We're super excited and humbled you like the game so much

@nathan-wash Yeah, the defend was left out due to some miscommunication and then time running out. We're probably adding it as a bug fix.

@paude That's also my pet peeve, but we just didn't have time to do them in pixels. Now I did get an idea how that might be possible with relatively little effort

@barron Silvanna is the BEST :smile_cat:

@gregoire Galgatax will get you for that!! :cloud_lightning: (honestly Mordina probably was happier not to be involved in such puny measures)

And if you like the game, please rate it on Itch.io too :)

maytch 2019-10-09 11:17

Awesome game, always impressive to see how much Pixel Art you can make in such a short period!

annie-owl 2019-10-09 14:51

That was a hell of a ride! The sprites are cute and the story is really funny and engaging. It has a lot of good jokes, and I like how you break the 4th wall at the end. The gameplay is a little bit repetitive, but the game is not too long, so it's not a big deal.

wxzuir 2019-10-09 17:28

The girls are kawaii!

最高!

detectivelosos 2019-10-09 17:48

At first I was like "What the hell are they saying?! Nobody speaks like that not in the movies, not even in video games!" But after like five minutes of the game not taking itself seriously at all, I was fully on board. I was digging all the absurd jokes and enjoying some nicely done combat puzzles.

So besides the initial hill to climb this game rocks! And yeah, waiting for that promised sequel.

andreas-roschal 2019-10-09 18:11

That's definietly the most polished and also most humorous game I have played so far this jam. Awesome work!

jusw85 2019-10-09 20:03

I loved the writing! Extremely cheesy but totally entertaining. I had some issue with the credits, seemed like the final battle music and credits theme played at the same time.

velvetlobster 2019-10-10 00:09

Just went through this game again and I must say, the writing is lovely, just had to say that

oxrock 2019-10-10 02:14

This. Game. Looks. Amazing.

lonewolfdev 2019-10-10 10:46

Wow such a well made and finnished game, one of the best I have seen so far. Congratulations! And im completely in love with the art style :)

farlandwinter 2019-10-11 00:40

Love this game so much! The art and music is fantastic! The dialogues are humourous and I'd like to read them,it's very hard for a game to achieve this lol. The skills of heroes make sense as well, players should battle with strategies, that's nice! And we don't have punishment for fail, I think that's a very good point for such a short game. Nice!

gold5games 2019-10-11 05:38

A bunch of silly fun. I smiled quite a bit at all the absurdity. Great sound and art, and a fun, meta ending.

cyberstarlight 2019-10-11 14:34

Games feels and looks very polished! Awesome pixel art and The dialogue system was very well done! This was well done on all side, graphic wise, writing, planning, audio and coding.

The battle screen is great, cool effects. Music is very very nice, and the sound effects too.

The dialogue and characters are funny, even zero who was never actually on screen. I loved how the other characters notice what happens when you already recruit them. You managed to flesh out the characters even on such a short game, that's great.

lol that ending 4th wall crumbled down to dust, very well done. this game surely deserves a sequel! The credits song is so badass!

When did you have the time to do all this?! I'd be impressed but I suspect some dark blood ritual was employed. Definitely the best entry I've seen so far!

cybersoftuk 2019-10-11 15:04

hey, game looks amazing! But on ITCH (for me at least) the full screen button isn't there and part of the screen is hidden (maybe the container size)?

@cybersoftuk Odd. It seems to work for others. Can you tell me your browser/OS/resolution?

cybersoftuk 2019-10-12 08:36

@arzi yeah sure, i'm using Chrome, Win10, 1600x900

container_issues.png

Looking forward to playing!

cyberstarlight 2019-10-12 09:15

lol I didn't expect a response from the characters themselves, awesome

euler-moises 2019-10-13 02:59

Really a very good and funny game. I love JRPGS despite a lot of dialogue. The art is fantastic! SNES-style musics reminded me of Final Fantasy. The composer really had a great taste in his choice of timbre and style. The story was very well written! I have nothing more to say. Everything is very well done! Congratulations!

This is our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/soundscapes

felipegeovani 2019-10-14 01:01

What an amazing pixel art, both in portraits and in game, very beautiful, the game is also very cool with the mini rpg, and the theme of you riding your team also suits the theme very well, very good work

bendmorris 2019-10-15 03:13

Well done - great graphics and music and very polished. (Did you opt out of the Audio category? I loved the music and thought it was really fitting.)

gamefive 2019-10-15 04:37

It's a game of really cool and pretty characters. I love Japanese style RPG.

amerigo-gazaway 2019-10-15 07:57

Great work, love the jrpg stye and art. Would have loved to have heard some original music, if you need any in the future let me know!

arzi 2019-10-15 08:02

Thank you everyone!

@bendmorris We dropped out of Audio because we didn't do the music ourselves

@cybersoftuk There's actually nothing cut out of the game view, but it does look a bit odd, so I made the window on Itch a bit bigger. Should be better now :)

selkkie 2019-10-15 11:59

This was absolutely fantastic! Amazing work! Feels very complete. The art is drop-dead gorgeous, and it's very funny with endearing characters. I appreciated the simplified JRPG battles, normally I'm not a fan of JRPGs, but this was really fun in its distilled form!

The introduction across the clouds was a little hard to read, but that's the most minor of minor nitpicks.

10/10!

zanzavar 2019-10-15 13:24

Great game! I felt that the combat was a bit one-way-to-win but overall very polished and fun and the writing was really good as well. A great submission :)

philomory 2019-10-16 02:41

The actual combat mechanics were a little flat, but the game as a whole was a blast. Very funny, and of course the illustrations are fantastic. There's really very little to criticize here. I'd love to see a longer version (if not of this game specifically, at least, a VN/RPG with this game's tone and aesthetic).

aeveis 2019-10-16 04:42

nice art and funny story! The combat was pretty straight forward once I figured out how not to die (shield, heal). Liked the slight puzzle to more party members. nice job!

randdir 2019-10-16 04:55

really nice art guys and love the story. UX is very good well done team keep it up !

mrerdalural 2019-10-16 13:10

Awesome game! I really loved the artwork and writing! I would have loved this game even more if the fighting had some more strategy involved but I see there is only so much you can finish in a game jam!

Thanks for the game! It was really fun!

acronaut 2019-10-17 20:51

Kudos for the Ludum Dare Jokes! Love the pixel art style! Especially the Character portraits. Suggestion: It would be nice to have those nice particle spell effects rendered through pixelart (pixelate + dithering shader?). I noticed one bug that somehow the Squirrel-Sister could still Cast healing spells regardless of her mana; at that point it took a long while to defeat the boss with a party of three-sisters. :smile_cat:

This game seems like a perfect candidate for 2-button control Gameplay!: Assign 2 buttons (e.g. Z,X) for the following actions: - Left, Right (selection of map); hold to [select] - Up, Down (dialog choice); hold to [select] - action-1(attack), action-2(shield/spell/skill); - advance dialog, repeat previous-line?; hold to skip

Looking forward to see a sequel, or additional chapters of this game! :dizzy:

saucygames 2019-10-18 04:12

gg love it

dimesto52 2019-10-18 16:33

the magician is much too strong it unbalances the usefulness of other characters. otherwise despite the fun of the dialogue the visual novel side my displeased

asfdfdfd 2019-10-18 20:41

Sequel please.

wdebowicz 2019-10-19 19:02

HAHAHA this is great, story is interesting, art is beautiful and I definitely want a sequel!

ninjacatz 2019-10-20 05:47

4 sexy girls :heavy_check_mark: One of them is neko :heavy_check_mark: One of them is elf(druid) :heavy_check_mark: Beer :heavy_check_mark: JRPG + VNovel :heavy_check_mark: Ideal game :heavy_check_mark: :heartbeat:

daria-toni 2019-10-21 13:38

HOW? How did you manage to draw all these backgrounds and characters with animations in such a short time? This game is VERY solid. Maybe the combat system is too simple, but it was fun anyway. Amazing dialogues with humor - a huge plus. Great entry, guys!

darefus 2019-10-24 20:27

damn, dis was p good! liike

negator2vc 2019-10-27 16:30

Amazing game! Amazing graphics! Very polished!! And with a nice story on top!! While I like games with nice amount of text (I am an adventure game fan after all ) I think the game could use a little less words. Still an excellent entry that deserve many high ratings!!

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-29 06:12

This game was a blast to play, not too hard but the characters and visuals are top notch here, and I love the meta-commentary at the end lol. Amazing work!

ddrkirbyisq 2019-10-29 18:10

I could tell you guys had fun with this one -- it's great to see that. Nice job! :)
