Fun game, but really hard!

2019-10-07 20:50

Pretty nifty concept. I would love to see more levels added.

kenarf 2019-10-07 20:52

Can see very cool approach to the theme. Nice job!

abacus 2019-10-07 20:55

Nice little game! Clever take on the theme.

pythooonuser 2019-10-07 20:58

Super awesome idea! I died 23 times^^ It took me some time to figure out the controls, because with 'l' and 's' you can also walk. Also very cool that files that can be opened are highlighted as such. Would like to see a post-jam version of this.

nisovin 2019-10-07 21:00

Very clever idea.

fallingflatstudios 2019-10-07 21:22

This idea is very clever, I found the downward momentum a little weird but all in all it's a very good game.

jaydubbyasee 2019-10-07 23:58

@pythooonuser Thanks for playing! Yeah I built in hidden vim-style controls. You can move left and right with h/l, and jump with j. I was going to build a level themed around the vim editor, but I didn't have time to finish the mechanics for it.

jaydubbyasee 2019-10-08 00:00

@fallingflatstudios yeah the I was trying to fuss around with a gravity multiplier on falls because my character felt too floaty, but I couldn't get it quite right.

ghust1995 2019-10-08 00:21

Awesome concept, loved the very different things you did with so little mechanics. I think this might be the best terminal game I've ever played, congrats!

justicepro 2019-10-08 00:22

The open command isn't working

lucasograssi 2019-10-08 00:22

I had a good laugh with this one! Great concept!

justicepro 2019-10-08 00:24

It's not clear that you need to stand on it

jaydubbyasee 2019-10-08 00:33

@justicepro Yeah I got that feedback from some of my friends as well, I'll need to reword the help description post jam.

jolett 2019-10-08 01:05

Fun game, I really like the meta concept of moving through the code! Amazing Work!

josephgaiser 2019-10-08 03:30

I am in love

dygar 2019-10-08 07:21

Wow, this is crazy unique! It took me a second to even figure out what was going on.

mrpiedpiper 2019-10-08 08:11

This was quite creative. Really enjoyed playing through it. You could craft a really cool story with this, excellent job!

4quet 2019-10-08 09:03

Great idea, great design, I loved it ! It really looks like a real terminal It took me a while to understand that you have to stand on a file to be able to open it, I was typing "open < filename >" :)

adamcyounis 2019-10-08 10:00

This concept is so good, I was sad when it ended. The execution felt spot on and the puzzles were clever for what they were. I would love to play more games like this to learn about how to use bash / terminal, or other programming languages.

mao 2019-10-08 22:00

Good idea! I like the idea of exploring a terminal session, but some of the platforming (particularly level 2) felt awkward.

erebus 2019-10-09 01:24

Really fun idea. I like the idea of combining a terminal and platformer. Thanks for bringing it by the stream!

mrtroy 2019-10-09 01:54

Wow this was fun!

afroant 2019-10-09 14:40

Ooh baby...command prompt puzzles! The idea is fantastic! Loved the mechanics, wished it was longer. The mechanics probably could've been presented in a more digestible manner, but I eventually figured everything out. Some keyboard click sounds probably would've gone a long way in increasing mood. Thanks for sharing!

boyturnedrobot 2019-10-09 16:46

Loved this. It scratched my itch for platformers and terminal nerdery. Jumping at the top of the screen killed me a few times, don't know if that's intended, but still a lot of fun.

palemek 2019-10-09 22:32

Really cool, only problem was with falling speed-it was hard to control falldown movement. Loved it! <3

jaydubbyasee 2019-10-09 23:41

@palemek Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it was something I wasn't too happy about either. Was trying to avoid making it too floaty but went too far the other way. Definitely going to look into tweaking post jam.

palemek 2019-10-10 08:53

@jaydubbyasee looking forward to next version :)

muse-en-lystrala 2019-10-13 19:26

This is a really wonderfully clever game! Hope to see updates!

omiya-games 2019-10-13 19:29

Very cool idea. It was probably good that the number of commands to run were limited. That said, confession, there was a bit of a learning curve using the Open command, as nothing indicates why it doesn't work without standing on top of an orange file.

I did think the platformer controls were sluggish and uncomfortable. A huge problem I encountered was that I had no idea how large my character was, and how large each platforms were, felt unfair towards the last, final level. I really did enjoy the idea, though, so I strongly appreciate it for what it is.

This is such a quirky concept! I had a good time with it even though I already kinda knew what to do from watching the streamers above, and have recommended it to some friends (including a total console junkie who should get a kick out of it.) I don't really have anything to add feedback wise - it sets an interesting goal and hits it.

jaydubbyasee 2019-10-15 17:55

@kooshy Glad you liked it!

demuss 2019-10-16 09:46

Amazing, super clever and fun idea. I had flashbacks to picoctf : D The only problem i had was the movement... it felt a bit clunky excluding falling it just was clunky

very good entry! keep up good work and try to work on it outside the jam

mknooihuisen 2019-10-23 19:13

Very innovative. I would never have thought of the platformer/terminal combo but you pulled it off very well. With just enough puzzle elements to make me think and move the game mechanics along.

igoreshka 2019-10-30 06:29

Closing terminal session... That's awesome. That's concept can be developed into something bigger. Thanks
