I love the graphics, effects, juiciness of the monsters and the models. Really polished and adorable.

The game itself is very repetitive. I have no sense of progression, apart from a new monster every dozen levels.

ausstein 2020-10-04 22:58

Wow very cool game! The Art and music are amazing!

Somehow at first I thought I could only hit enemies from above, which made the game harder but not impossible, and I think I enjoyed at even more with that restriction :D

Maybe enable fullscreen? I always find the "click to launch in fullscreen" option works best on itch.io. That option does not force fullscreen which you might think.

tort60091 2020-10-04 23:48

Look neat, well done. I like it )

crazi456 2020-10-05 00:07

The bounciness is super duper cute. Super polished, well done!

jcmonkey 2020-10-05 01:10

tried a few browsers but the game wouldnt load for me. and i couldnt play the windows version on my linux machine. could you possibly make a linux export for this game?

testuser 2020-10-05 04:33

Nice graphics. It feels really polished (both graphics and otherwise). Fun puzzles, especially once the course gets crowded.

harry-alissavakis 2020-10-05 08:12

@ausstein @tort60091 @crazi456 @testuser thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it! :D

@jcmonkey There is a linux version now on the itch.io page, let me know if it works alright for you!

@boltkey thanks for the comments and the feedback!

jcmonkey 2020-10-05 08:23

@harry-alissavakis yeah the linux verson works great, thanks for adding it, and the game looks and plays well.

gilad-bar-ilan 2020-10-05 08:27

Great game! Great graphics! Nice idea!

mincho 2020-10-05 08:36

The game looks really good! The sound as well is really good. Really cute design, I love it.

I didn't really like the heart system, which sends you all the way back when you die. But if you already completed the levels it is really boring to get back to where you were.

aaron-smith 2020-10-05 12:08

Lovely execution of an idea. Pretty to look at and the idea is simple but has great potential for depth.

Hands down one the nicest compo game’s I’ve had the pleasure to try

On a dev note, I seem to be able to attack diagonally, which does not seem to be intended.

bereg 2020-10-05 13:05

That's amazing. Best entry so far. It's so polished, the art is great, sound effects are wonderful and the gameplay is brilliant. I loved every bit of it. Very addictive and fun game!

joonamo 2020-10-05 14:09

Great music and art, the jellylike animations work excellently! The banger of a song made me instinctively move to the beat like Crypt of the Necrodancer. Great job packing so much in the game!

twoscoops 2020-10-06 00:45

Really juicy and the music is super catchy!

theapplecake 2020-10-06 13:19

I saw your WIPs on Twitter and i was already hyped by the bounciness and the overall feeling from the screens. The game is polished and feels good to play, I really enjoyed it !

cagibi 2020-10-06 15:45

Very catchy, I really like the art.

black0wl 2020-10-06 16:29

Pretty sweet game, love the art style, the game mechanics are great, maybe just add some options for the sounds, kinda loud

davision 2020-10-06 16:30

Nice simple game, lovely style and the little animations add a lot. I was a bit confused as how to tackle the enemies, its not exactly clear when they make damage.

holtzzy223 2020-10-06 16:31

Love the art! gameplay loop was fun, got to level7 and then chrome crashed! about to load back in meow!

harry-alissavakis 2020-10-06 16:34

Thanks for playing @black0wl! The options in the menu actually tackle exactly that (cause sound in WebGL is a bit unpredictable)!

Thanks for the comment @davision! There is a short description of how the combat works on both the page and on the "How to play" panel in the main menu. Let me know if these weren't clear enough though ^^"

Nice work @holtzzy223! :D Desktop version should be more stable than WebGL, you should definitely try that if you want!

dexort 2020-10-06 16:35

LOVED the game, it is so much fun to play! Enemies are too cute, felt bad hurting them :( Will appreciate if you will leave opinion on my game as well)

ynk 2020-10-06 16:36

Good twist of the concept! I enjoyed to resolve this puzzle game, even though I stucked to level 7 or 8. Good art, good execution, good concept: very nice entry!

mirakazumi 2020-10-06 16:37

cool game! graphics are so cute and its nice concept!

charles-viau 2020-10-06 16:52

The Graphics were super nice, sound effect we nice too! the game is neat and there's even an option menu! great work!

davision 2020-10-06 16:53

Yea, that makes sense. I guess it was just confusing with "they only move after you have moved" with made them seem sometimes ignoring me while sometimes instantly attacking me

avavt 2020-10-06 16:55

Great game! - Graphic was good - The music was spot on - Game was extremely easy to jump in and play, without needing any explanation

What I think could be improved: - Performance: the game occasionally have big spike during animation - Were there repetitive levels at level 15th onward or just my deja vu? 15 and 17 looks the same I think?

palemek 2020-10-06 16:59

Really great game! I put way too much time into playing it :) I would love to play a full version of it on smartphone

harry-alissavakis 2020-10-06 17:17

Thanks for playing and for the comments @avavt! Also, you made me look and, yeah, nice catch! Turns out my custom editor had some trouble serializing some changes in some levels and there are indeed 3 identical levels!

Suits me for trying to make a level editor in a 48-hour solo game jam I guess ^^"

gonzalol 2020-10-06 17:45

I love the graphics and the animations when you move. Great work there! It's pretty fun to play and it will make a good mobile game.

narom42 2020-10-06 19:42

Great graphics, theme, and animations. Controls are on point. Great job !

rodrigo-denubila 2020-10-06 20:46

Great entry! Graphics, animations and mechanic are really good! Good job!

ivan-garcia-filho 2020-10-06 20:57

Awesome @harry-alissavakis !!! - Cute and Andorable, I love their "bubbling" motion like jelly (delicious like a candy crush game); - The complementary composition of cold and warm is something that BUMPS the core gameplay elements; - The subtle depth of field is also something cool, but you could maybe add something out of focus (blured) and close to the camera's POV (like stalactites) to enhance the strength of the attention you are trying to attract to the center of the battlefield; - I don't know if the shadows of your hearts being projected over the silhouette of your enemies is a good idea... io think they're slightly ruining the sharpness / visibility of their art!

sharkwithlasers 2020-10-06 21:54

Super fun game! Reminds me a bit of Crypt of the Necrodancer! One thing about the loop mechanic I really like is being able to hit an enemy on the other edge of the board (hope you liked using that modulo operator)

The polish and lighting/shader wizardry was also on point. It looks super professional.

The only nitpick I have is that I wish there was an indication between a warping slime and a slime that moves to an adjacent tile (maybe a slightly different model or something). A potential remedy to this would be to announce each slimes next move (a la "Into the Breach")

Overall, great work!

roidz 2020-10-07 01:00

very cute graphics and matching music. Solid puzzle gameplay!!

eduardo-yukio 2020-10-07 07:00

I liked the implementation of the movement mechanic from *Crypt of the Necrodancer*.

Amazing graphics and music, very polished and beautiful.

The gameplay gets a bit repetitive: I reached level 19 and the stage with 2 zombies on the right repeated at least 3 times.

Besides that, it's a very fun and pretty game!

guillem-serra 2020-10-07 17:45

Technically speaking, great game! ;)

homeworld 2020-10-07 17:45

Very cute game! I would have loved some graphical variation in the level (palette swaps are fine), as well as some twist on each enemy's ability (modifiers maybe?) but it's a very focused polished effort. The level progression is very more-ish, and i felt like i could go on for a long time. I would love to see a mobile version!

syafire 2020-10-07 21:43

I loved the graphics and the going around the stage mechanic as really cool. Potion bottles were super cute. Keep up the great work!

seth-tal 2020-10-08 04:13

Really interesting take on the theme. The visuals are stunning as well! really clever job here, nice work!

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-08 07:38

Pretty fun puzzle game, I love art and core gameplay, which is easy to play, but hard to master. Great work, well done.

afroant 2020-10-08 13:51

Sweet game! The gameplay leaned into the theme nicely. It was satisfying that I could look at the board state, solve the puzzle (to the best of my ability - still got hit sometimes!), and following through. One thing I thought of was that the shape of the enemies could dictate their paths e.g. the blue enemy could be vertical- or horizontal-looking, the zombie could be more cross-shaped. At first I thought the zombie would chase you (given the fork and knife in hand). Amazing graphics, and the audio overall was great. Solid entry!

ghuyajil 2020-10-08 15:19

Very nicely done! Great graphics, good enough soundtrack, very decent puzzles.

erlioniel 2020-10-08 17:38

For sure very nice puzzle game. The only problem I see that when you just appear to the new level it's not clear what move to do to avoid a hit. Basically I got all my damage like that :< But anyway it is very impressive result!

kaldrin 2020-10-08 19:38

I'm impressed how polished your games always are, so neat and juicy, great shader work, no errors or misplaced texture, great, really. I love this one, and it's long and hard, many levels, not often for a jam game, congrats! You really nailed an original take on the loop concept, the enemies and the level are stuck in a loop, brilliant! It looks super good, feels good to play, has great audio that fits it perfectly, just stop being so good!

thiago-nascimento 2020-10-08 20:13

Very cute graphics

noam-blei 2020-10-08 21:45

Cool graphics and idea!

mikoziq 2020-10-08 21:47

Cute platformer that resembles the Zelda titles itself! Beautiful visual-audio design. Really enjoyed playing it on stream. Job well done!

harry-alissavakis 2020-10-09 11:35

Hey @sharkwithlasers, thanks a lot for the nice comments :D showing movement intent is definitely a nice feedback touch, though I wanted to point out that the warping slimes don't differ from the ones moving to adjacent tiles at all! but since the level is looping around, it can seem like that. Their moving pattern remains the same though =]

@roidz @guillem-serra @syafire @seth-tal @tricky-fat-cat @ghuyajil @thiago-nascimento @noam-blei @mikoziQ @gonzalol @narom42 thank you all for the nice comments, really appreciate it =]

@ivan-garcia-filho thanks a lot for the comments buddy =] good point on the heart shadows, I didn't even really notice that hahah

@kaldrin thank you so much for the lovely comment, I'm really humbled ^^" I had a lot of fun with this one and I definitely liked how it turned out!

flazone 2020-10-09 16:22

It's freakin awesome!

I really like the effort spent on polishing the gamefeel. There's a feedback on every action you can make, it makes the experience so smooth and pleasant!

I like to spend time on gamefeel too, and this game is a very good example of a simple concept pushed forward to something masterized.

Congrats, best entry I've played so far for sure!

happygamer500 2020-10-09 16:49

This game is too good to be made in a compo, or even a team in the jam. I have high hopes for the ranking.

noam-blei 2020-10-09 17:59

:D

neontropics 2020-10-09 20:43

Really clever use of the theme and great puzzle fighter gameplay! It feels great to outsmart the level, and it's great to just sail past stuff that I initially died on when being reckless.

Great graphics and audio as well, I love the tactile squishiness of everything.

I got to level 10 and my one criticism is it just feels way to harsh to start from level 0, and for a Ludum Dare game I had to little patience than to start over again. There's satisfaction in the above mentioned sailing past previously difficult levels, but for the levels you aced the first time it's just fairly boring to play through them again in a turn-based game. Potentially a checkpoint every 3 levels or so would work if the difficulty was balanced around this instead, if you want to keep some of the long-term survival aspect of it and not have the player restart on the current level.

linetaru 2020-10-09 21:07

It's just perfect ! Nice game.

pekuja 2020-10-10 11:49

This was quite fun, and it looks and sounds great! I enjoyed especially the later levels where it started to feel like I needed to take more enemies into account at the same time. Some of the levels felt like copies of previous levels... not sure if that's the case.

At the beginning of the game I had a hard time understanding what's going on. I wonder if showing what the enemies are going to do with some arrows or something at least for the first few levels would be a good idea?

harry-alissavakis 2020-10-10 12:32

@flazone thank you so much for the kind comments =] I tried to keep the gameplay *loop* as simple as I could so I could focus more on the juice and the content this time! Still experimenting with different approaches in each game jam :D P.S.: I really liked your entry too!

@happygamer500 @linetaru thank you both for the nice comments =]

@neontropics thanks for the comment and the feedback! You're definitely not wrong; I didn't think to add some more jam-friendly mechanics like checkpoints, or at least some extra, renewable lives.

@pekuja thank you! you're not wrong about the repeating levels; had some serialization issues with the level editor so there are a couple of levels that are the same as another one ^^" you're definitely not wrong about the movement feedback too; having the enemy's future direction visible is definitely a good idea, at least when they're first introduced

exopunk 2020-10-10 19:10

I love the art style and the "juicy-ness", the music and sfx fit very nicely as well. I would have liked to have a move counter to see in how many moves i did each level or the ideal moves but that's a minor thing :D Overall i loved it, great job!

neowedge 2020-10-10 20:18

Very nice entry! Solid mechanic and good level design, great job!

bumdag 2020-10-11 00:33

Great graphics, musics and sound. So much completed in 48 hrs. Well done. Thank you so much for sharing and doing this.

nsadie 2020-10-11 19:39

Very solid entry (as usual)! The gameplay was simple, but fun and I liked that you could wrap around the edges, even though the art does not really suggest that as the island is surrounded by water. The sound design and graphics were really good and you managed to make it feel really polished!

super-hadoken 2020-10-12 09:16

Fun and easy to pick up and play. You got a lot done here, good job.

cosmicpickle 2020-10-12 09:19

This game is lovely! The gigly graphics are very cute and fun to watch. The puzzles are interesting and the game difficulty scales very well. The music and sounds match the game very well. And there are a lot of levels. I actually got to level 12 and lost. I might play again later. One thing I was missing is a "Restart game" button to reset the game if I make a mistake and loose health early on. But this was only until I got the hang of the mechanics. Very fun game. Great job!

garywiss 2020-10-12 16:34

Awesome graphics and very fun to play, one of the best entry i've seen for now, great work !

joleon 2020-10-12 19:55

Everything is super juicy and satisfying in this game --- the graphics, the animations, the sound.

It's a clever way to interpret the theme and the first time I've seen that interpretation during this jam.

I had a fun time learning how to get good, and getting through many levels (not all of them unfortunately, but I'd say the difficulty was good either way)

It's VERY much like a mini version of Crypt of the Necrodancer, just without the rhythm part. Which on one hand is great because that game is a masterpiece. On the other hand, I felt Oplo lacked some innovation to set it apart, just a little bit.

Great game, good job! :)

virimine 2020-10-13 00:24

wow this is pretty polished! I enjoyed a lot playing this cute, fun puzzle~ Everytime I got hit the sound effect gave me a mini heart attack which I consider a success haha Great job! Keep it up~

ursagames 2020-10-13 06:07

Your game was played on my stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos ) on 10/12. Thank you for sharing your game with us! You can find the timestamp of when your game was played here: https://tinyurl.com/yy4oycvv The queue was empty, so I moved on to the games marked "only play when present"

honest-dan 2020-10-15 20:37

A really pleasant game! Crypt of the Necrodancer vibes for sure - saw a few games like it one of the recent LD's. however, this was nicely executed and presented - it was enjoyable to play!

flying-basement-studios 2020-10-15 21:53

the graphics are really nice :)

joaog 2020-10-20 04:50

I spent some time playing and I really loved it. The game is a lot of fun, the sound and the art are good. It’s a solid work, the game is well optimized. I like the mechanics, it's great. Good job, by the way, how did you create the title? I ended up thinking about the same name for my game

phillserrazina 2020-10-27 11:37

I am in love with the art style! Once I realized that the enemies weren't moving at random, that's when the game became fun! Great job
