LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Looper by jk5000 2020-10-10T16:47:30Z

I like the visuals and the concepts. I had fun, but even after learning what the parameters did, I never felt like I won a level entirely on my understanding. My most successful strat was coming close on my own, then randomly changing until I won. Maybe a top down view and increasing the difference between parameter level would make changes clearer to the player. Keep up the great work!

The Pongs by schizoid2k 2020-10-06T02:12:32Z

I kinda like the bips, made me feel like I was at a retro arcade machine. I liked the game, it's simple, kinda hypnotic, and nice use of theme.

The Basement by Geckoo1337 2020-10-09T22:58:07Z

@geckoo1337 Hey! I made "The Impossible Room", and I'm here from your comment. I'm loving how seamless your portal mechanic is, and I'm pretty sure there is recursion. Is this done in URP or standard?

Anyway, the graphics and modeling in this game is very aesthetic, and the maze take on portals is creative and implemented really well. It's like solving one of those toy glass sphere mazes where you gotta shake it around to get the ball to the center, but instead you're the ball and my brains the thing being shaken.

Cyber Blob by gogo199432 2020-10-07T23:00:49Z

The graphics and lighting are well done. The creature design looks fantastic with the legs on the wall and floor. I agree with a previous comment that the boxes should stand out a little from everything else.

Cascade by Joe Cowman 2020-10-08T00:40:22Z

I like the concept. It starts simple but has a lot of potential to grow. There are pros to having the blocks loop and gameplay elements like you said in your tips, but it makes it really hard to place block consistently. Maybe have it pause when player holds a block, that way you can keep pros of the loop. Also having the blocks combine is a cool idea, but if you mess up, there's no way to unstick them unless you restart the game all the way to the start. It'd be nice to just restart that level. Other than that, Great game, keep it up!

Ribbon by 100th_Coin 2020-10-21T19:20:01Z

Really creative with the concept! I love jam games that aren't afraid to get weird.

WHILE (TRUE) by smiley 2020-10-08T03:00:28Z

The graphics and music are great. As a programmer myself I feel for poor Bob. I think it'd cool to change some code lines or something to increase the challenge. Overall really good game.

Loop Lock Malfunction by GuitarBro 2020-10-06T02:36:28Z

This game takes a bit to get used to, but it's super fun after that. Have a high speed character in small rooms can be jarring and hard to control sometimes. Not sure how to get around this, but maybe have it so player bounces off walls in way that conserves momentum.

PARAD🕑X SECURITY by grizeldi 2020-10-07T22:08:12Z

The concept and execution for this game is fantastic. Reminds of 80s time travel movies. Also starting the game at 4:20;) I see you. I think game jams are the best place to test out weird ideas like this. Also at one point, I was hiding out in a part of the map, where I thought I had never been before, and like 2 other mes went strolling by. Had me thinking did I forget I was here or are they future mes and I'm the one in the past?! :[

Astroboi by Tomáš Selmeci 2020-10-07T23:12:49Z

I like the style and how it fit in the theme. Kept thinking of that scene from Gravity when playing. This game is pretty difficult, at least for me. I like the intresting controls, but maybe if the player and ship were smaller compared to the asteroids and camera was zoomed out to give more space to maneuver.

Beyond Death by Trypants 2020-10-21T18:15:40Z

The animations and graphics for this game are really impressive. The skeletons at the door and the river turning to blood are nice touches. I'm interested to see what other useful ways my dead body can be used... that's a weird a thing to say out of context :joy:

Tunnel Racer by Killian 2020-10-08T01:24:23Z

For a compo game there is a nice level of polish. The movement controls are tight and the tunnel looks neon and great. Some music would really drive it home, but it's more than understandable since you'd have to make it yourself. I agree with earlier comments to have it speed up over time. All and all great game!

School Bus Speed by spider__the second 2020-10-06T00:28:01Z

Moment of silence for all those school children...

Asteri by Wyatt 2020-10-07T21:41:38Z

The creativeness of the music in this game is fantastic! I love how the choir grows as the sun those. Also using voices for sound effects too really works to keep the audio consistent and it was probably really practical too.

Rabirinsu magical Rätsel by Rhiannon 2020-10-06T00:55:28Z

This game correctly guessed my familiar was a dragon. 10/10 would elect alcoholic to office again.

Need More Space by wheatleyscience 2020-10-21T18:30:35Z

I like how the mechanics of the game are taught to the player in pieces. Cool idea using the sun in different way. I love me some space chicken!

Photon Loop by Alexascher 2020-10-07T21:28:47Z

I like the variety of mechanics. The simple but complex in a relaxing way.

HONK II by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2020-10-21T18:39:52Z

Fun game and clean art style. The weapons are fun to fire. A nice splatter effect for enemies could be really satisfyingly.

Mouse Wheel by YokoOnFire 2020-10-07T23:59:00Z

It's a really fun concept for a puzzle game that fits the theme well. Just some points are, I found it really confusing to keep track of where I need to make jumps. You could let the player decide when to start the wheel so they can look around and make a little plan. Also right now the game is skill based with the reflex jumps you have to make in time. If you wanted to focus more on the puzzle aspect you could let the player control wheel movement or at least influence to some extent. Overall really fun game!

The Magician's Maze by MidoriMelody 2020-10-06T02:21:44Z

The visuals were really nice, which is why I gravitated to this game from the list. Yea movement speed is a con, but music, maze concept, and giant chess piece guard thing are pretty cool.

Devoured by St1ckY 2020-10-06T01:44:54Z

I really love the mood of lighting up a dark forest with the street lights. Design wise it's perfect for letting the player explore without the feeling of being lost. Something very hard to do in a jam game but you nailed it.

Infinite Shootout by TheCeases 2020-10-08T00:54:38Z

You can cheat by click mouse fast. To fix you could add a cool down for when you can shoot. Coroutines work great for neat timers. I had fun playing, and the shoot sound effect is top notch quality. Considering 12 year old me was a potato at computer things, Keep up the good work!

Ghost Loop by Nathan Wiles 2020-10-06T02:45:43Z

Great use of theme and well thought out puzzle game.

Games are So Much Fun by Rainbows are Fun 2020-10-10T16:54:07Z

I love the concept, very meta. I had good laugh as the art style got more simplified or abstract. Reminds me of Rick and Morty episode with the car battery mini universes.

Invisibles' Loop by Acdia 2020-10-07T22:39:55Z

It's an intresting concept. I agree having to run back to the console to hear is kind of frustrating. Maybe you can have a way to hear enemies from the terminal but but the tradeoff is it cost player's time to activate? Anyway the area and graphics look nice and clean.

Topple Tower by rinish 2020-10-08T01:47:32Z

It was fun to play. It was like a 3D 2048 game and I like those games. Sometimes picking up rocks you touch is kinda hit or miss but other than that Great Game!

Sometimes it's inevitably. by DAk001 2020-10-08T00:27:53Z

10/10 would sit again...

Hooper by Aiko 2020-10-08T00:09:08Z

I had problems getting my hula hoop technique down, but that's probably because I can't hula hoop in real life either. The art is really cute and the music fits really well.

Bjorn to Dance by Tomh 2020-10-21T18:45:48Z

I like the art. Never realized I've wanted to be a dancing Viking so thanks for that!

Over and Around by JJP 2020-10-07T22:23:00Z

This is a good start for a game. You could add small things to make it more challenging like increasing the rotation speed add different kind of obstacles.

Stuckgrade by N8Dev 2020-10-06T00:46:31Z

I really think there's something to this Live.Die.Repeat mechanic. It's satisfying to die and then immediately buy the upgrade to get past. The pace is a little too slow early game, where the most efficient way of getting coins is to farm that one coin at start then die and repeat. To fix maybe make higher skill coins worth more or bring down the early prices.

Solar Sailor by magico13 2020-10-08T01:10:48Z

I like the concept. I had fun wrench throwing my way around the ship. Suggestions : - nerf the turrets a bit, only have them shoot when player can see them too. I had a hard time getting in their room cuase of how fast and accurate they are. - Some kind of way to tell where you have been, maybe a mini map

proceed by anchorlight 2020-10-21T19:05:16Z

I really enjoyed the 90s cathode TV style. The reset sequence with music in particular was really cool.

Loopy's run by ZeonBlue 2020-10-21T19:12:30Z

I like the creative use of gravity in the level. It's fun to move around. If you survive too long the red balls all clump together and take over the level. You could have them respawn or have set amount, but have them kinda follow the player around. Anyway fun game, keep it up!

Resurrection by etrealjunior 2020-10-07T21:17:11Z

Great choices with the music and I really like worked in the theme.

Monotony by jaxsen 2020-10-07T23:41:35Z

I keep waiting for something to happen, because I wasn't sure if I was missing something. I even tried not going to work to see if they would fire lol. Also food and showering doesn't cost me any money so there is no incentive to work. I think that may be a bug.

The Impossible Room by RainyDay2800 2020-10-05T22:53:07Z

Feel free to leave any kind of comments. I'm open to any feedback! enjoy :)

The Impossible Room by RainyDay2800 2020-10-05T23:20:21Z

[Small bug fix] The sensitivity was too high on later levels because I forgot to apply prefab with small camera change. It's fix now.

The Impossible Room by RainyDay2800 2020-10-06T01:12:51Z

@akmon Totally understandable, it's weird a concept to wrap your mind around. For hint, try shooting a ball through the door and then getting that ball to hit you on the otherside... or I guess same side lol ;)

The Impossible Room by RainyDay2800 2020-10-06T01:49:49Z

@schizoid2k Good to hear! I had a lot of fun with this game concept when I was making, and I'm really thinking about expanding on it.

The Impossible Room by RainyDay2800 2020-10-09T22:32:43Z

@conneli Thanks for posting the bug. Yea the stair level gave a lot of issues when I implemented it. I'll look into after the game jam to see if I can make it more consistent.

@geckoo1337 Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out for help(god knows I need it). I relied heavily on Sebastian Leagues YouTube video on portals implementation, but I had to improvise some stuff for URP. For example, URP doesn't support recursive rendering for a single camera, so I'm gonna try using a sorta multicamera chain to achieve recursively.

The Impossible Room by RainyDay2800 2020-10-21T17:42:46Z

@squeed-fingars Thanks for the comment! Fog is definitely a good idea. I'm working right now on getting the repeating to be seamless, I ran out of time for the jam. The torus in the first room was placed to act as a landmark to show players it's the same room, and I made it rotate cuase it was fun trying to shoot a ball through the center.

Box Hole by offlebaggins 2020-10-07T23:29:24Z

I love this game. I managed to glitch a box outside the room. If I can't be free at least my box buddy can be :')

Aztec Ride by Idan Rooze 2020-10-21T17:54:07Z

Really creative use of the theme. I think it would be cool if your passengers reset at the end of each level, so you can see how many levels you can pass. Overall this game is a lot of fun and really polished. Thanks for making my fear of roller-coaster even worst!

Something to Tell You by Blind Lemon Games 2020-10-06T00:08:20Z

I needed hug after playing this. I mean that in the best way. I like the dark mood and theme. Really creative!
