A nice little game, it got a little laggy at later stages of the game due to the number of objects though, still I enjoyed it ♥

tort60091 2020-10-05 11:07

Really nice feeling of the game. I just wanna rolling in this environment. Red balls are very noisy but anyway interesting concept ) :star2: :star2: :star2: :star2: :star2:

beavergames 2020-10-05 16:55

Really nice game. The objective was a little hard to figure out. Maybe try to add a way to fight back... ? It reminds me of hyperbolica a lot.

superunknown 2020-10-05 16:59

Enjoyed it! Graphics, atmosphere and controls were good. Had fun hanging out in your sphere for a bit!

akhil841 2020-10-05 17:01

Game's really good, doesn't match theme very well though.

hyblis 2020-10-05 18:21

Very cool approach of the theme, but I think I got motion sickness!

zeonblue 2020-10-05 19:31

Made an update - the player can now also search and hunt for "the thingy" which leads to ultimate victory!

sparrow-lynn 2020-10-05 20:57

Such a cool game! I suck at it, but I love the ambience and the way the score works.

apos 2020-10-05 21:53

Good game! You did a good choice to give the incentive to get hit. It definitely made the game more interesting. My score was so high after a few games that it overflew into the negative numbers.

zeonblue 2020-10-05 22:02

Haha, love that! I'll make sure to fix the overflow problem in the next release :)

inoscop8djfk 2020-10-06 20:05

Well done! I enjoyed playing it a lot, and I really liked how you interpreted the theme!

wegpast 2020-10-06 20:21

I like that spherical level design it's cool but I think you could pushed it farther : There are some stairs/plate-form on the ground and they are totally useless. I just ran straight forward and eventually catch the green thingy and that's all x) You could had added some features focusing on your spherical level like hole in the ground that lead you to the opposite of the level like if you fell in itself. But I had fun playing it :)

Pro tips for players : Play in full-screen mode or your pointer will get out of the play space leaving you with no direction control

noxymu5 2020-10-06 20:41

Spherical world is cool, but the level itself could be more diverse to make navigation more tricky.

zeonblue 2020-10-06 21:38

Yeah, I started off with another idea at first (Mobius strip) but that didn't work out, so I went this direction on day 2 of the jam. I spent so much time learning how to move my character, make and move enemies, creating materials for different things, how to build a game in Unity etc etc that I actually really ran out of time, which is why the level is soooo basic.

I'm going to continue working on this game because I want to finish the rest of the things that are still on the backlog: * More levels! * Holes / Portals in the floor * More complicated obstacles in the level * Enemies have the chance to randomly fire goo, slowing you down

That's what I have so far, the list keeps on growing :)

jenny-bourke 2020-10-06 23:17

The concept for this is very cool, and I had a lot of fun playing it! I do wish the camera was more easily controlled and the lighting was a little less harsh, because it was hard to see what I was doing. Overall I really enjoyed it! Great job!

mathemagician 2020-10-07 00:14

Congrats on making your first game! I think you've found a pretty cool concept here, but I'm not sure the game itself communicates it well.

The stark contrast between the "bullets" and the environment is great for helping the player keep track of where they need to avoid, but I found it a little hard to actually control and maneuver around the space: I ended up settling in more or less just moving straight forward and jumping to clear obstacles.

I think part of that is from the camera being extremely sensitive, and that I couldn't really get a feel for how enemies move/appear, so I felt like all I could do was keep moving full-speed ahead.

I didn't actually realize that getting hurt would increase my score more until after I had played and then read your submission. That's a really cool idea! I wish I could have discovered that a little more easily in the gameplay itself though.

red-chilakillers 2020-10-07 01:17

The camera was really hard to control, but the physics and spherical level are really something, I enjoyed a couple of rounds, even though I didn't really understood what was going on :P

zeonblue 2020-10-07 12:28

@mathemagician thanks for the great feedback! I'll work on improving the camera, and I'll also build an initial tutorial level to ease the player into the gameplay mechanics!

ar-borno 2020-10-07 14:20

i really enjoyed the game mechanics.. great work, thumbs up for that.

magus77 2020-10-09 12:49

cool concept! loved the controls especially

frank-gevaerts 2020-10-18 13:31

Wow! Well done!

The sound makes this feel very immersive, and controls and physics feel just right. The fairly minimalist graphics fit the game well.

The mechanic of getting more score when you're hurt means it's hard to get a high score, but easy to just play, which makes the game playable for everyone.

zeonblue 2020-10-18 13:38

@frank-gevaerts wow, thanks for playing my game! I really tried to finish it in 48 hours, but finished it in about 60 I think. Was my first time using Unity as well, dude, BIG learning curve, I'm no game developer, but this whole experience has been incredibly fun and humbling. Will definitely be doing more of this! Oh and the graphics & sound - that was just what I could do, given my limited knowledge and XP, so I really just worked the idea into something I could actually achieve with my limited skillz, haha! Almost just like IRL

jonrei 2020-10-18 14:33

A nice entry, but I would consider despawning spheres, maybe after X amount of spheres has spawned. That would decrease the lag, but still have that chaotic feel.

sharked 2020-10-18 16:02

Nice concept ! Later in the game I don't know why, the gravity didn't change when I jumped anymore.

philipprapp95 2020-10-18 16:28

The Physics of the game are really great, especially the mechanic to switch gravity between the inner and outer sphere. Even though the graphics are that simple. Just a bit hard to play, the movement of camera and player are a bit harsh

zeonblue 2020-10-18 16:32

@jonrei good idea! I do stop spawning enemies if I detect FPS drop, that should be extended to de-spawning spheres! Thanks for the tip;)

zeonblue 2020-10-18 16:37

@philipprapp95 noted - totally agree with that. I'll maybe add a filter on the camera dynamics, and player movement needs work! Thanks for taking the time to play!

bas-hoogeboom 2020-10-18 16:48

Woah, the visual effect when rolling in the outer sphere was really cool!

I can recommend looking into particle effects, and small animations known as "tweens". For a well-contained game such as this, they can make the experience feel a lot more polished.

I liked the game, definitely a nice one for your first gamejam entry! Keep going at it and you'll get better and better. :)

zeonblue 2020-10-18 16:53

@bas-hoogeboom nice, great tips! That would be amazing, having small animations here & there! Any ideas / suggestions ? What would you add?

anrqangel 2020-10-18 16:58

Great, fun game.. I loved it, awesome concept and great mechanic.. very impressive for your first game, not to mention the pressure of the jam.. extremely well done!!

cedric86 2020-10-18 19:07

Physics work really well here. If you stay too lomg in there the FPS drop quite a bit but aside from that really fun concept. Great first jam entry.

ciaranw 2020-10-18 21:46

Nice game. I like the idea of pushing yourself closer to the edge to get more points - reminds me of the mechanic in 'superflight' and I think it works well here too. The speed of the player was just right, and fun to control. Couple of minor issues: - My mouse failed to lock to the game, so my cursor kept hitting the edge of my screen and I wasn't able to further turn the camera. - I also noticed that the frame rate got a bit jittery when the balls were adding up, think they might have to have some kind of timeout :P - High scores seemed a bit bugged, sometimes it appeared as a very large negative number on the leaderboard, think it might have been when I clicked the submit button twice.

All in all though, great game and fun to play - I enjoyed it, Nice job! :)

Edit: Also just saw that this was your first game and first jam, extra nice job it plays very well, congrats!

sli 2020-10-18 21:54

Great concept. It looks and feels pretty good. The problem for me is the camera is going crazy, Maybe you should tweak it more. I managed to take the "green thingy", by hiding, so that there are not so many bullets. All the bullets seem to pour in one place on the level and they still hurt you, and the thingy spawns in the middle of that. Over all great concept. I liked it

zeonblue 2020-10-19 08:47

@ciaranw & @sli I totally agree about the camera, for the next release, I'm planning on reworking that completely! I have some ideas on how to make that much better. I'm also working on many more new levels, I think this little game needs to be grown more. Add smaller animations, waaaay better menu screen, simple tutorial etc etc. SO MANY IDEAS!!!

hunttis 2020-10-19 14:10

Whooo, things were TINY on my screen

I understand that UI stuff currently is kinda difficult to do well in Unity, so it takes different resolutions into account, but I think there was a way to set the maximum and minimum sizes for text. You might want to check those out

Other than that, I think the idea is alright, the controls were a little jittery (at least with the mouse) and I LOVED the ambience created by the sound.

Here are screenshots that I took:

l8iV6wCsJb.png Who can beat my score? XD . I liked the visuals ! Really simple, this interior sphere with lines ! For me when the red guys attack you, it feels a bit too overwhelming. gg !

zeonblue 2020-10-20 15:26

@hunttis haha yeah, completely ran out of time to properly work on the UI! Will def fix that for he next release!

rainyday2800 2020-10-21 19:12

I like the creative use of gravity in the level. It's fun to move around. If you survive too long the red balls all clump together and take over the level. You could have them respawn or have set amount, but have them kinda follow the player around. Anyway fun game, keep it up!

kaeveris 2020-10-24 11:51

Nice concept and the visuals are really great! I feel it would help if the camera could be more easily controlled

gelgavish 2020-10-24 20:32

I like the feeling of freedom to move in the 3D space in this game, the visuals are very easy and nice on the eye, a nice idea overall.
