start is a bit slow, the movement animation didn't realy match the beginning speed. but at later levels with more dex it does :) loved the cheat hat and the sounds are amazingly funny !

the spikes should be visible, alto they are tiny, so look close for them . we had a camara shake on damage but it bugged out in the last hour. so the deadline prevented it from comming back into the game. Dying only resets the current level. if you die on a later level, you keep level progress so it doesnt reset you to level 1 when you are in 2 , 3 , 4 or end level.
thanks for the feedback! We'll be working on this game a bit more outside of the jam maybe :-) Hope you had fun playing our game.
I like this idea and how it looks and feels. The gameplay needs a little bit attention tho. The magnification glass is looping in a predictable way and never reaches the outskirts. Also the fruits spawn always in the corners, and on a regular timer. So... i can walk the outskirts with the ant safely, and be on the next spawn for fruit just in time for it to spawn in front of me. Around and around, without danger and picking up all fruits when it spawns.
@luckyfeathers hit the spot, if you make the spyglass increasingly more unpredicteble, gain in speed, make the fruits spawn in more different places and make sure there are no spots that are allways safe, make the scene change a bit maybe, side scroll it, and make that increase speed... Then you can have the progression of challenge.
this game is awesome! i love the camerawork, how it switches and rotates, how it gives sneak peaks on looming danger and all. The lighting is fantastic and i adore the animations . also the ps1 retro look and feel is spot on. the only thing that bothered me is the speed of the spider-enemies. Those are blistering fast, biting me before i can take a single shot.
groovy ! i like music games !
groovey babey!
i love the flipping of direction <3 and the pokemon-style fights !
the volumetric lights is awesome, the sound is great and the low poly style pretty! you can warp trough the wall if you walk between the wall and the sofa, and there is no exit menu, had to alt/F4 but it is a great concept!
arrr i like this, scurvey bilge rat! this should be a mobile game in the playstore! arrr.
i loved the face paced movement. it took a few minutes until i discovered holding down mouse buttons, that was awesome :) it lacks a bit of music and i was expecting the lights to come up green/red/yellow on the circles. Also there is no exit-menu, i had to alt/F4 :p But i had fun playing it anyways and that is what counts bigtime!
i loved this. the art is amazing and the concept refreshing <3
i like the idea but the direction arrows were just random and the package got stuck inside town hall. So i never made any delivery. The concept is great tho!! and i like how the little cars jump forward when accelerating. the voice acting is grrreat
there is music, or at least ambient sound. I love this artwork, reminds me on https://store.steampowered.com/app/1174570/Build_m_up_Shoot_m_down/ actualy. The feline like avatar appeals to me. Didn't get the ' keep it alive ' theme feel from it tho.
Grats !!
let's feed hammie! hammie, i am sorry... haha i loved the voice acting :D lovely animations too
i like the idea, graphics, audio. but... i couldn't play it. escape and space work but i can't move the character. neither with arrow keys nor with wasd
@amkingtrp w10 with latest chrome browser. on other pc it worked fine tho, also with w10 and chrome. i didn't have problems in other games. itch.io is especially great, they support unity games very well. i use them for hosting my games too.
love the art, just like a commic! the controls needs a bit of getting used to. and there are a bit too many riffles to be found :p loved it!
love how it corners, smoothly like butter :) and the idea of reversed keyboard is great, that was hard man!
@BeaverGames : yes we did make it in 3 days. Not a lot of sleep and just short breaks. Also I didn't use any framework code because i think that is against the spirit of the jam. We were jamming with the 2 of us (falien, my gf, and me). It was a blast, learned a lot from it and had loads of fun making this game. I think Falien is addicted to it now.
@geryon-games : There is a day/night cycle, but i didn't have time to properly test if it works correctly. Mathematicly it should. In the beginning with just 1 or a few planters, there isn't much time needed to do all the tasks, but later in the game there is ;-) and in mid day the lights are bright. Maybe starting not from midnight but 6am would've helped too for realism but didn't have the time to polish that part out. I think we will make some updates to it in the future to correct that.
Thanks you so much guys, we made the 20 minimum rating this jam! Also thanks for the ideas and critiques, this is what we value for learning.
As for anonymous' comment, we were inspired by harvest moon. A lot of 2d farming games that came out since look like this mother of them all. Our game mechanics are totally different. If you play our game you will immediately experience that.
@tw00 The wateringcan is a ludum magic one. I didnt have time to make a water refill script for it, the wateringcan has an infinite watersupply ;)the can itself can be found spawned in the gameworld
@tw00 yes the can will say that even when there is no plant. It will water thr empty planter amd waste energy doing nothing to popgress ;)
i love this, the platforming controls are good, the idea to gather and build i like a lot! the monster gives the player a sense of looming danger and need to hurry. Good game!
less is more is true in this case. love the graphics!! and the gamedesign, fun to play :)
i want this on my mobile <3 it lacked music but it was great fun and i like the graphic 'glowiness' (is that a word?) the conntrolling is smooth and intiutive. good game !
@geryon-games aha i totally missed that :-s i tried it with music but it doesn't realy fit the game i think? Maybe a bit more pumping rythm would be better? i dunno, should try some different ones out to feel if it fits it better. Still, i improved the rating just because there IS music and i missed it the first time around :p
lol, that cat is grumpy, love it!!
love the pace and art :)
i am gonna try to get to the end , now i am curious !
kewl game, this would be great on a touch device (mobile!)
i loved the graphics and concept! if you add a timer this can easily become a speedrunning game. Loved the CRT look and feel with the grain and the somewhat fisheyed lens. I think this could be a very good mobile game too
love the graphics and the voice acting! very fun and playable game, but the controls feel a bit like walking on ice. i needed a few attempts to get used to that, as well as to the big bounce i got from jumping on top of enemies. Had fun with this game so good ratings from me
i love the graphics and concept. the story intro didn't go to level1 but reverted back to main menu. Also there is this thing when you jump over Dave and grab him just before landing. Now you can jump on his collider and launch into the air. If you air-travel for long enough, you'll end up in the void to the right, dave will skyrocket up and the timer will keep on timing . From this point on the game is "Dave Eternal", he never dies.
dave-eternal.png
still a good concept and artwork, i had fun so good ratings :)
tekst based adventures, i've missed those ! loved this one, and there are really lovely lol-moments in there! I had fun,so good ratings from me <3
"oh my me" haha , love the voice acting and texts
the interface took some time getting used to but i love the artwork and animations! the sound fx are a bit high pitched and metalic to my liking but the music makes up for it.
love the shadows !
the bogrolled, so THERE they are :) love the artstyle
loved the challenge. in chrome the default itch window was masking part of the interface but fullscreen it worked great
i loved the theme, very cute cow and farm! the controls are fun, as the cow tends to drift trough corners. i found myself trying to do pretty nice drifts more then trying to get a high score :-) nice little game! i'll rate it when the rating opens.
lol those screams and texts :D this would be a great mobile game to waste some time with, the interface would be easy to adapt for touchscreen
cool concept! loved the controls especially
love the style and sound effects. esspecialy the animation for the waterwheels are cute. nice to have volume sliders too! It's a nice balancing game between the different stats and i liked playing it :-)
@tombuston The digging around without too much clues is by design, you'll have to search to find your way and whatever lies below. But this being used mainly for testing, there is a [cavemap](https://i.ibb.co/CHLHtCh/worldmap1.png) provided on the itch.io page (of course, spoiler alert).
@theneonshark the colletibles and the shop are in there, somewhere underground ;)
i liked this! the time you have to shoot the incoming demons is a bit on the short side if they are all the way up, preventing me to do much singing :p sound was awsum and so was my singing of course!!
i love the minigames in the pipes :D
love the fast pace old skool way of player control. some sounds are missing and i think it's great for speedruns. should add a timer :D
fun game. the control scheme is a bit different but i like it. The colliders did allow for jumping REALY high tho. I don't know if that was intended behaviour. But if you hug a barrel or crate and doublejump quick enough the height is way more. Good points awarded tho
i loved this! the air control, air dashing with jump on boxes, chaining, the retro sound. All of it! Nice one!
this was really funny :) i enjoyed it. will come back to play it again when we can vote for the games <3
love the graphics, the atmosphere and twisted mindset :D kudo's
i loved this one! great audio and retro feel, smooth character controls. just didn't get why there was a countdown on gameover :p is there a way to cheat death or something?
lol that menu "make your choice" had a great ring to it! Love this unexpected game
i LOVED this one!! it's kind of a different take on tower defence basicly but done so correctly that it's great fun to play. I would love to have this one on my phone, wink wink!!
it took a while to get the hang of this, but one i got the balancing worked out i loved it! This could be a great mobile game too, utilizing the G sensor maybe. idk. But i gave this one a nice rating!
flipping creepy!
great concept and game, this one is even supergood for speedrunning and i LOVE that. I encountered one "softlock" tho. (not really a problem, with ctrlZ and R at our disposal but still) when i pushed the first wooden crate in the water and tried if just letting it float up would be faster, i got on top of it. The waterlevel went up to submerge the way back for me, but the crate wasn't high enough to step off onto the next part of the level. Stuck on the crate there was no way to take a move and have it rise high enough to step off.
thanks to you all for playing, rating and the comments so far, we learn the most of these comments! It was a bit much to do so we had to cut some corners here and there of course. There is a lot of options for balancing things out and even a start for a story to include. And then we didn't even include the demon-bunny yet because of the deadline. For the short time we had, we are very happy with what we could release. The tiles not correctly aligning seems to be a thing with html5, i couldn't get it solved in time but it's something i'll have to look into for LD51 :)
i enjoyed this game, very nicely done! the retro feel of it is great. in the intro i almost expected to hear "they set us up the bomb, all your base are belong to us" ! The strikes felt a bit strong, with L entire groups can be demolished and i couldn't find a power meter or whatever that limited how much you could use it. All in all, gave a good score on this one!
great jam game, worked well and i loved the music! the shark was very cool and useful. i don't know if it's supposed to have the shot fish ammo linger around, it felt like a matrix/bullet time effect almost. I voted and i would appreciate it if you would vote for our game (Salvos) too https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/salvos
at first i was like, wtf these controls how do i remember that? but it took like 3 seconds to work it out once started :) nicely done this!
the music is amazing and the charactercontrol smooth as silk. at first i tought the stairs were more like roofing until i walked up onto them to get to the leak behind it faster, and i found myself a level up in the ship with way more leaks haha! enjoyed this a lot.
games with a good story are few in the LD, a lot of ppl and teams just focus on the game mechanics and add story elements later. With this one i get the feeling the story was there first :D
i'm a sucker for minimalistic / shadowplay graphics! nice one this! Also the typing for action is fun and something different than most game, i liked that ! gave it a nice rating!
i can totally see this one as a mobile game, making drag to fire the reaper into a direction even more fun using touch controls. But weeeew, hard one to play on early morning . love how the music hypes up the feeling of haste
Thank you all for the comments and remarks so far.
These jams are a learning experience for me personally and i always take a lot from the comments in how i approach the next one, so thanks you all again :)
i hope Dread Shadows will be played a bit more in the next days to come, so we can make it to the 20 votes minimum.
We'll be playing and rating your games too of course along others we find on the site :)
-Magus
Thanks for the tips and ideas :) and i think @falien can be happy too, she was making the map layout and pushed to include enough landmarks to make hallways recognisable
daaang that is so counter-intuative. love the sounds and controls and how smooth it feels. but... a NUKE? whyyyyy :-) loved this one, and rated it . Graphics are awesome
i could've sworn i saw a nuke on the walls in my dreams, but maybe that's just my mind playing tricks :p
great fun, good mechanics and i love the audio! I don't know if the compass changes directions, spins around, in later levels but maybe that is one extra thing you can do to increase difficulty later on. the color directions are learned quickly and then its hoping the rockets come in from the direction they need to go to, so you can spin m around and score quickly :-) but dang, good game!
For myself, LD is a way to learn and to try stuff i never used before or never have done before. Many kudo's for challenging yourself taking a step into 3rd person action and it's a good step. you are getting there. most comments above higlight eveything i wanted to say so i just stick to keep up the good work and keep challenging
cool, didn't get the "every 10 seconds" theme in this one but the game is funny, crazy and loooove that music. will have that in my head next hour or so.
love them pigs :)
haaaa very fun game, properly enjoyed this one. BEEPBEEP the sounds are supercute :D the powerups kept me wondering what it would do and i loved trying them out. BEEPBEEP +1 . nice submision and i hope to see more of you in the next LD's
i love how it changes the seasons and it really gave me a retro feel, like i was chucking in 25cents coins in the arcade playing this thing with the joystick on the cabinets. one remark i need to make is the jumping/air control that didnt match the retro feel. having a lot of air control. and when jumping under a platform i kinda expected to go trough the platform and being able to land on top but instead i kept kinda floating against the ceiling under it
great artwork and mood, works really well!
Moo. just.... MOO
Cool artstyle, it fits the game so well!! this would be great as a mobile app, great for time on the throne!
i love the mechanics and artstyle a lot. the AI needs some work tho
moon.png
when walking in circles around the mobs, they round up in very small groups that can easily be wiped with 2 or 3 ranged shots. Another strategy is just keep walking in a straight line and fire a few shots. The projectile doesn't dissapear nor does the damage wear of after hitting the first one, killing off all enemies in the line or group equally .
Also when planting 1 seed and just walking away, all enemy AI only ever spawns at the first seed, leaving you available to harvest the other 4 seeds :-)
great result for the LD52 tho! looks and gameplay is smooth <3
great to see a story driven game at LD. the artstyle is great and loved the athmosphere.
i see pagan tradition, i play :)
the artstyle is great, love how the theme is incorporated. best thing ever to harvest the souls JUST before they enter the light, mwhuahahaha.. it just needs some screams... some terrible screaaaams
only thing i would change is maybe make a very short timer on every shot with the chains (or make the timer after the 4 shots longer), at the moment the player can spam the chain on every soul making it kinda of a gattlinggun of chains :p
gotta love broccoli ! next LD colliflourman!
i mean, yes what everybody already said but man... i looooove the artstyle!!
lol the sound/voices and the naked dudes, i dig it!
there should be a speedrun competition for this! <3
i love shiney games, i love bullet hell, take my stars!
Thanks for playing and rating, drop us a line and we will rate your game too!
We love any comments with your experiences playing our game, this is where we learn the most every jam!
@chesschaser it takes a minute after the splash screen
Thanks for the comments :-)
@bumble i will upload an excecutable version soon. i didn't test it with firefox sadly. But the exe should work anyways
A small update to the itch.io page: - there is now a fullscreen button on the web version - there is now a windows version to download available
a linux version will follow later today
Thanks @knatt for notifying. I'll check why that happens and learn a bit doing so :)
@alfie213 we likes creating this one so good chance we will :)
this artstyle is awesome! and i love grapple movement any day !!
Screenshot 2023-05-03 194848.png
woohoo. i love how speedrunnable this is. if i have time later tonight i will try another run. there is some interesting speed mechanics in here
see pengui's, must play, must vote!
cool game , love the shadow to help target stuff and the 8bit sounds
wow clean art, that looks so good
the audio is awesome :-)
i love the mood and artstyle
the version in browser (brave) didn't work, couldn't click play. the download did :) rated and would love if you tried ours too
i loved the puzzles, and i loved the music! This game is awesome! some of these really made me try a few times before getting to drop the bomb :D cool game.
the voice acting is awesoooome. RELOAD RELOAD! hehehehe
cool graphics, great atmosphere, starts really slow but gets more challenging later. love it
smooooth game. just wish there was some retro sound. for me it was silent.
This was the first project in godot, after we have left unity behind. We ran out of time to do a proper level design to hide the props, so it would be a better hide and seek puzzle. But all in all it was a great experience again.
Thanks for playing and please rate our game, we are happy to return the favour of course. Leave a comment if you liked it or if you found one of the many many bugs.
with kind regards Falien and Magus
Thanks for the welcoming and nice words everybody. This was a nice experience with godot and we'll keep using it for sure. Maybe there will be a 'post-jam' release with the level layout as intended and some in-game tutorial/explanations. Falien and i liked this gameplay too so who knows! :-) It also works with controllers and everything.
@kob-kirito escape is the "quit game" button, needed to release the mousepointer. It ends the game, as described :-) So that is intended. pressing E will open the book .
@orangedragon the counter itself might be bugged, didn't notice it in testing but didn't pay attention to it either. We'll check if we release a post-jam version
no sound for me too , and the aim was always a bit off from where the mouse was.i liked the gameplay tho!!
those sound effects are retro, love it! unique artstyle too. good one!
i looooved the music
nice fast paced movement, very retro zelda feel to it. there's some buildings where the player can walk onto the walls. but smooth game nonetheless.
Cute game , nifty puzzles and i love how the characters came to life trough their conversations
i love how they go about and chance plays a role in how things work out for them . cool idea!!
random bobr is the worst! hehe, i love how i felt like being on the fair. the aiming/throwing feels natural. well done!
lol upside down is so mindbending in control
this one is a great contender to make into a mobile game
love the little cam, but things get weird if you pull the band further than the side of the screen, offscreen :p
these creatures are too CUTE
Good first one! I love the style and the little bugs with the device and antenna. Movement is smooth and the idea is good too, i can see where you wanted to go. It lacks sounds to make it feel more alive.
Next jam you'll get the hang for time management a bit better. If you are stuck on something for too long in a jam, just change the scope a bit and make a simpler version of what you are stuck on.
Hope you had fun making this one.
i am SOOOOO relaxed now!!! loved the hand drawn graphics and the sound is amazing.
so no fish were harmed in the making of this game.. good!
good point @cloew , i think we should've included that with the slider all the way to 0 (right now it can't) . Thanks for the feedback
I'll see if i can cook up a linux and windows downloadable version tomorrow. I noticed the performance on the webGL was a bit spotty too. Thanks for al the valueble comments and feedback guys, really really appreciated and taken to heart.
fun game until you need to climb 'stairs' pogoing up, constantly hitting the vertical wall. With an analog stick it would be easy but KBM is almost impossible lol . I did like the whole concept tho, good sub!
Also the are holes in the walls/floors ;-)
image_2025-04-09_175243213.png
wel done, loved the characters especially
gave me stanley parable vibes. Great! but incorporating all and every final theme... when DID you start on this , lol !
Bunching up a few enemies is a nice tactic, get up to a wall and keep slashing. I like the graphics a lot. It does lack a bit of story why we are down in the depths of the dungeon, so try adding that next time to give it more body.
cool concept, but for some reason i didn't have any sound in the game. might be my browser, or there is no sound, idk.
actually fun to play, good jam!!
very smooth controls and nice concept! enjoyed it.
@clymm Turning the frequency will lower the white noise level when you tune closer to the exact frequency the survivor outside is transmitting at. Rotating the antenna into their actual direction will raise the volume of their clean signal considerabily.
Listening to the message they are broadcasting helps you decide if you should let them in or not. It's easier to hear what they say if you tune both dials ;-)
Certainly the aftermath, maybe a little bit closer to thenevent, who knows!
Thanks for playing our game and the feedback folks, it's really appreciated and we will learn from all of it
love this short naritive, and the way the player kinda learns the language. but it is hard for non native english players maybe, as it's using some sort of simplified english. Sometimes i had to use the hints just to discover i had to use a simpler and more basic sort of grammar
good effort! i must say i really like the artstyle choices. The greyscale with just a gradient color added to it makes it pop and also focusses attention for the player.
Cool game, love the puzzles and you really had me in the first moments.Really nice start of the game!
