neat game.
so cute
I THREW THE FLAME!
/edit: but in all honesty, very cute game with a quite a few challenging puzzles! Loved playing through it! You guys should expand upon it and make it a full release :D
Nitpicks: - The MC's movement is a bit 'floaty', especially when falling down. - The MC being just a random no name is a bit sad.
Other than that, very polished game. I experienced no glitches, bugs or other odd behaviour (except when walking towards the end - there's a green pixel in the middle of the air).
Very atmospheric! Thank you for letting me play this gem u_u
i am gonna try to get to the end , now i am curious !
Great game. One of the best flame mechanics I've seen in this Jam. The controls may still need some adjustments but overall a well made game!
I love the sprites
Hey ! I'm trying lo launch the game, but every time I click on start the game shuts down (I'm on Mac btw) ! I really like the menu though and I'd really like to play :)
love your pixel art
Really pretty, and good sound design too!
Excellent graphics, audio and mood!
@garymarance Can you try to run the game from the command line (`java -jar Flamethrower.jar`) and post the output here? I don't have a mac so i cannot try it myself, thanks.
That was unexpectedly impressive lengthwise platformer with some clever level design. I must admit it took me some time to figure some of the puzzles out. Graphics are quite clear and neat, everything was super intuitive to play, great job!
Ooh, very prety graphics. It's clear you know what you're doing
I love the graphics you used for this. The game was also very enjoyable
The art style is soooo good! Really appreciate every detail. The flame is so cute that I would love to see more about it! Really well done.
Absolutely gorgeous game !!! Really polished ! I would say the only drawbacks were the characters animations and his floatiness.
The game is pretty nice and smooth. The puzzles are nice and pretty well balanced. I didn't understand at first that you get stuck when you hold the flame because your height increase.
Loved the art in this, especially the fireball's little expressions. Dug the challenging level design and tight controls. Really enjoyed this one!
I love the pixel art and the sound design! really reminds me of celeste! Greato Jobu!
Wow, did you guys make the art from scratch? The tile maps look gorgeously depressing and bleak. Great choice on color. The Animations of the Characters are awesome too. Especially the fire in the jar. Very well made. The whole production oozes professionality. I'm also suprised how well layed out the maps are. The platforming and the environmental puzzles get harder with each passing screen (but never too hard). Color me impressed.
The only thing missing to improve this experience would be some good writing. Some kind of story context.
The music fits perfectly to the bleak map design. And the ending is awesome as well. Man, there are so many similarities with our game (ending, carrying and throwing npcs), it's almost creepy :D Goo job guys!
@duke the art was made during the jam. We had 2 designers working on it and they were really fast, I couldn't keep up implementing everything :D We had a bit of story planned, but as always had no time to add everything. Especially the throwing in your game really reminded me of our own. It also gets stuck if you throw it inside a wall.
@griffin76 I was afraid that players would not figure that out so we added an alternative route to progress. Hopefully everyone found at least one of them.
@grizzliusmaximus What do you mean with `The controls may still need some adjustments`? We added multiple control schemes to try to make it playable for most people. Would be nice if you could provide a bit more detailed feedback on it.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. Really appreciate it.
Well done! A platformer with a harsh time limit. Love it.
Can't run it right now, but let me tell you that it looks really nice! I really like the backgrounds and the characters. Looks very atmospheric. Hope I'll be able to try it out later.
The game is really well done and a very intriguing concept that is quite similar to ours. I found that in one area I got stuck and kept dying as I jumped down a hole in some cave like area and couldn't find how to progress so i little bit of instructions on where to go could help.
Really nice and polished one! The graphics was absolutely fantastic and worked together with the audio and mood of the game in general. The long death animations were a little bit annoying after a while and there was no way of restarting if you accidently throw your flame into a bad position so you had to wait until you die. It was worse when I throw it on a flame place and couldn't get it, so I couldn't die but couldn't continus either...
Really love the style! I was sure you had used something from opengameart until I read your comment!
Also the code is excellent, I can't believe you guys managed to cram in an ECS system.
Excellent graphics and atmosphere. I really adored it. Luckily for me, there were many checkpoints or I would never get anywhere
PS. I remember your previous LD game as well!
@halflemonstudios We tried to avoid softlocks, but I guess in the last puzzle you can get stuck if you don't carry the flame with you. We also thought about a restart button but did not implement it (I don't actually remember why we didn't)
@gus-goucher we had a template project ready before the jam started with java/kotlin, [libGDX](https://libgdx.badlogicgames.com/) and [ashley](https://github.com/libgdx/ashley)
The game seems nice and all but I don't understand how I'm supposed to run it...
@thibaud-ligneul you need to have java 8 installed, then a simple double click on the .jar file should start the game. If that doesn't work it's also possible to start the game from the command line with `java -jar Flamethrower.jar`
