This was wonderful! It was pretty tough though, I doubt I would've been able to finish it without the hint system, so thanks for implementing that for dumbos like me. The pattern of writing became pretty repetitive, but it was kinda funny because of it, so I don't think I have any real negative notes. Good work!

the-stage-hand 2026-04-20 17:23

Very fun game, simplistic but enjoyable!

2026-04-20 17:23

@tolviere Thank you so much for the kind words :) The hint system was one of the first features haha

2026-04-20 17:26

Cute game!the smoke is hint too,I like that

ray-dino 2026-04-20 17:36

It's a good interpretation of the theme, and pretty fun too. Would love to see this expanded into a proper game. Visuals are great, and the music is top notch. Poor Grog!

exteegi 2026-04-20 18:59

Wonderful art and really fun! I want more! RIP Grog's wife.

mekuire 2026-04-20 19:08

It's a great game; I really enjoyed it. I can't think of a single flaw.

oradimi 2026-04-21 07:40

Nice music! Original idea and fun story, I liked it!

muzzlove 2026-04-21 10:20

great game

alexhonor 2026-04-21 10:31

Really enjoyed this one, super on point, matches the theme, graphics are simply fantastic. Bowing to your designer here, folks.

tweekus 2026-04-21 10:49

magus77 2026-04-21 11:10

love this short naritive, and the way the player kinda learns the language. but it is hard for non native english players maybe, as it's using some sort of simplified english. Sometimes i had to use the hints just to discover i had to use a simpler and more basic sort of grammar

sirlich 2026-04-21 11:22

Thanks for the feedback @magus77! We wanted to have one symbol for every word, so having words like "the", "is", "a", "and" didn't make sense. But fair -it's probably tricky for non-natives!

But also, it's OK to use the hint system. The game isn't neccesarily intended to be solvable without using hints :)

aniretti 2026-04-21 11:25

cool narrative game! your game a little reminded me of our game that we made last year. first time playing I spent a long time looking for an icon for the question "why?". I thought it is a vomitting emoji :D I'm waiting for the continuation to find out what Grog's interpretation of the TikTok emoji...

whiteowl4399 2026-04-21 11:53

Awesome, I really like both the audio and the visuals, and the idea is great too! It has a sort of 'Pictionary' feeling.

bonedaddy 2026-04-21 12:11

The fact that I can get the answers so easily by typing them out shows how well you did designing the puzzles. It's very intuitive which really shows how well you did communicating the puzzle

geeni 2026-04-21 12:47

Poor man. Very fun how you kept me interested of seeing how basically a single sentence would go for 5 minutes

pipetto 2026-04-21 13:23

It made me feel a bit sad, poor Grog 🥺 I like the interpretation of the theme, the melancholic music, and the simple yet authentic art style

axodo 2026-04-21 14:37

Very nice concept. Relaxing and pretty innovative. Nice :)

schizoid2k 2026-04-21 16:12

Awesome submittal... I had a lot of fun trying to figure out these puzzles. Hints definitely helped!

lizelive 2026-04-21 19:23

really fun. poor groog

lizelive 2026-04-21 19:32

I would apricate typo resistance, and like root word matching like *ed

saloid 2026-04-21 21:24

Fun little idea with meme style caveman voices and phrases - really enjoyed it!

guardaro 2026-04-21 22:45

Very fun! I enjoyed the voice and the pictures of the signals, and it was very intuitive. I was invested in the narrative! My only suggestion would be to add a fullscreen button on itch; picking out the right signals to send was tricky because they were so tiny!

ulziton 2026-04-22 01:09

The idea is cool, very good one

sarah 2026-04-22 01:12

This was surprisingly peaceful, great job on the audio (all of it)! And I liked figuring out each puzzle. It would have been nice if correct letters from incorrect words could have filled in to help, but overall I really liked it!

tkap1 2026-04-22 15:12

Surprisingly fun. Wish there was a button to have the caveman repeat the question.

andriybyelikov 2026-04-22 18:24

grog see grog game. grog like. much ooga booga in game. grog congratulate devs.

wouter52 2026-04-22 19:16

Very well made! I had lots of fun trying to play like a caveman! Some things I noted / have questions about:

- One time I encountered a word which needed (in my opinion) to be past tense: "fall" instead of "fell" - There are lots of icons, are those decoys? Or did you have more plans or is it random? - I love the music, did you play that on a real guituar? - I like how there are very modern symbols in the list haha, like a lightbulb. These guys are modern!

sirlich 2026-04-22 19:53

@wouter52 thanks for playing!

Yes there is a typo. We didn't have time to re-record audio, and the bug in the puzzle snuck in because of that. Hopefully the hint system helped people get past it.

Every decoy icon was originally part of the story, yes. The only icon(s) that were fully cut were ones I redrew, and which would be confusing to include.

Music was recorded by @mischa-98 on my wife's guitar 😅

mrturtle 2026-04-24 20:23

Quite fun and a cool concept, my only comment is that subtitles for the dialogue would be nice.

pres2300 2026-04-25 04:47

Wow, well done! And surprisingly sad . . . poor Grog! I was really hoping I'd run across someone doing a game about smoke signals. This was implemented really well! The only thing I really struggled with was that some symbols could be used for more than one word (i.e. "make" and "know"). The hints came in handy with that, though, otherwise I'd probably be stuck forever as my brain is tired and not think good. Nice work!

loki-drams 2026-04-26 13:35

Good and simple game. A bit of looping and lots of unused symbols, but good job!

darkshadow 2026-04-26 15:15

Great game, I think what makes it is the two way conversation it's like two games in one. Some variations in the words were a little annoying to get exactly right i.e. right tense or with or without the s, there are software libraries that do that sort of thing which would make it a little more friendly, so thank you for having the hint system

Nice visuals and the theme fits well! Would love to see more phrases and some randomization in the future

thesmellofoxygen 2026-05-06 01:36

Great entry. I loved the feedback. "Uh-huh" grunts of the cavemen. I had a little trouble with "wife" because, well, marriage probably wasn't a thing and I tried "girl" and "lady" first. Other than that, things were pretty clear.

Also not sure how they had an established signal for "wheel" if she just invented it!
