LD59 — Signal

Alpine by RenD 2026-04-27T19:19:18Z

Fantastic! Love the dialogue and the overall vibe, the art is lovely. As others have said I feel like the controls could be more forgiving, especially the time window for wall jumps. Also I personally kept accidentally cutting my line when I didn't mean to. Perhaps having some sort of confirmation where you have to hold the cut line key for half a second or so would be good? Overall really charming, would love to see it expanded in the future.

Patch Panel by Alex Davies 2026-04-24T20:07:11Z

Really cool premise! I absolutely love when games have physical wires and I like the skeuomorphic presentation. As someone else said, I think a screen module that visualizes an intermediate signal would be good since it can be quite difficult to debug the state of a signal without rewiring your outputs and that can be rather tedious. Some sort of quicker way to start dragging out a wire from a port would also be appreciated. I couldn't get terribly far into the harder puzzles but I found it quite enjoyable.

I did notice two bugs, it seems multiple wires can be connected to one Input source. Also when adding a module to your rack the module seems to always start in an empty available space on the top row. So if you don't have any room on the top row, you can't add any modules to the bottom row.

Here are two photos to get started.

@universeflow It should automatically take the photo once you're close enough, though I feel like it may be too strict with it.

@mc-shopot Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Though what do you mean the pictures won't load? Like as in when the game prompts you to download the photo or when you're lining up a shot?

@tosmaster @xavier-marshall Steganography is how! We store information about where the player took the photo in the pixel data of the image itself. Each pixel in the image consists of 4 bytes or 32 bits, 8 bits for each color (plus alpha). So I can store my own data in the least significant bit of each color, it theoretically *slightly* reduces the brightest color the image can represent but you'd never notice practically. Then it just reads that information from the photo when somebody loads it in their game. Glad both of you enjoyed it!

Signal Fading by Animaster 2026-04-24T20:49:15Z

It's a cool concept but it's really difficult to progress as it stands. One thing to note is that I'm pretty sure I got softlocked because the second package I had to deliver was outside my signal range and I didn't have enough money to buy a battery to extend it. Also some sort of map or minimap would be useful since the routes you need to go are kind of unintuitive at first. The visuals and environment are really good though and the vibe is interesting. Overall very promising.

Cave Man Conversations by SirLich 2026-04-24T20:23:46Z

Quite fun and a cool concept, my only comment is that subtitles for the dialogue would be nice.

FINDER-1 by richjbaron 2026-04-27T21:46:51Z

Really cool concept! The aesthetic and overall vibes are immaculate. I don't feel like I got the full experience due to playing on a trackpad, as I couldn't really adjust the scan width with great precision. So I ended up just indicating along the entire surface until I found the targets. That aside it was still a really good experience.

On Ivy Boulevard by python-b5 2026-04-24T21:32:20Z

Really polished, the atmosphere is great. Definitely agree it could use some sort of notes about the conversation when reviewing evidence but other than that it's really good!

Signalien by jnur 2026-04-24T21:43:11Z

Nicely executed, I really like the tire tracks and car visuals. Definitely agree that the tank controls work well here.

Chaotic Night for the Lighthouse Keeper by Skoufakis 2026-04-24T21:04:24Z

This is a really fun take on the theme! I like the way you guide the ships, it feels very well executed. My only criticism is that most of the time you don't have enough time to react to the boats coming in on the bottom left and right section of the screen due to how close they spawn to the rocks. Other than that, I think it would be a cool concept to see expanded.

Too Many Goblins! by Tykki19 2026-04-27T22:08:54Z

I don't normally like tower defense games but I actually really enjoyed this. I think the signalling system and the environmental occlusion are good mechanics, the graphics are also really cute. I especially like the little touches such as the impact effects when bullets hit the walls. Though some sort of indicator for how long a flare has left would be good. And also some sort of visual or sound cue for when something is being damaged would also be useful.

MHz 1420 by Xavier Marshall 2026-04-27T17:35:07Z

Really good vibes, the concept is solid and I feel it could be expanded upon. I was however playing on a trackpad so the scrolling experience was quite poor, perhaps that could be improved upon. Like some others I also never knew which direction I needed to scroll in, an indicator might be useful. It would also be good if the incoming red indicator on the edge of the screen matched the shape of the incoming long signal, perhaps harder ones wouldn't indicate ahead of time though.

USS SONAR by carterjbx 2026-04-24T21:58:23Z

Absolutely loved it! The pre-rendered graphics were really charming and tracking down the submarine is quite fun. I didn't immediately realize I was scrolling through a list of options with the sensor equipment but that might've just been me misunderstanding. I also enjoyed the aspect of making manual notes. Also don't know if this was the case but the way you locate the submarine definitely reminded me of Jet Lag: The Game, in a good way.
