LD46 — Keep it alive

Protector by blubberquark 2020-04-23T17:16:08Z

I liked this game, although it wasn't nothing mind-blowing or extraordinary.

What I liked:

- Gameplay, which was really fun and enjoyable. I had to think a bit to keep on moving forward. - Graphics. Some might say they were lacking, but personally I really enjoyed the visual style.

What I didn't like:

- Mechanics and controls. The idea isn't that innovative and the controls are really unintuitive. It really lowered the fun I had. - Some bugs: Twice I bugged on a first bigger hole and couln't get out. You ought to fix this. :)

MSS, Incorporated by thomasward 2020-04-22T15:01:29Z

@edalbung Thank you for your feedback! We decided not to put any kind of score system due to the fact that the game is story-driven and we wanted the player to focus on the story.

Although we are proud about the fact that the game reminded you of Hotline Miami. You compared it the the best! :)

MSS, Incorporated by thomasward 2020-04-24T12:36:09Z

@banzi Thanks for your opinion! The HP indicator of the server was it's lightning - the more it got hit, the darker it got.

Jezebel and the Flame by Francisco_caal 2020-04-23T17:53:00Z

Yay, I saved Terrence! Yet the story was lacking and, well, the game was plainly too simple. Unfortunately I didn't like the whole idea too. Why there was no choice to talk to the Major that some crazy-ass witch changed a village member to a bloody flame? I would have loved to grab a pitchfork and kill her.

Okay, jokes aside, the story wasn't bad, was just not enough for an adventure game. All the other things (graphics, sound etc.) were great.

The Priest and the Bandits by TheDestoryer 2020-04-23T17:40:29Z

I loved the gameplay, which was challenging at first, but after a few minutes I mastered the controls and easily escorted the clergyman to the church. I liked graphics and an awesome mood the game had. The biggest flaws were graphics (I liked the style, but they could have been a bit better anyway) and "cut" ending. "You won" wasn't just enough...

Task Manager by pele90 2020-04-22T08:31:33Z

Short game, quite fun, but gets boring really fast.

What I liked: - The quests felt like a real thing. Altough my bosses in all my recent jobs were much better, I still had to bring them water or coffee all the time. And they got crunky without it. - Swift animations and graphics - I just really like this visual style! (Although, again, it gets boring really fast) - Interpretation of the theme - the fact that the game gets boring quite fast is a great way to express a boredom of a pointless job that you have to "keep alive" in order to economically survive - this is great! - (Almost) no feedback from the boss: this makes the game feel real too

What I didn't like: - There was quite a lot of free space in office which could have been filled with more content :) - The office atmosphere was lacking, mostly due to no toilets (this would have been a nice quest) or social rooms. - Lack of sound is annoying (and I didn't like the music too)

My ideas for further work on the game: - you can add more rooms with content - make an ending: good and bad one - maybe a few easter eggs to Kafka novels (this game has some "The Trial" and "The Castle" vibes)

Overall soundly: Nothing extraordinary, just a simple, nicely made game for about 10 minutes of gameplay. I'm probably going to forget it soon and remind myself about it after some "The Office" rewatch.

PS. I **didn't** have this VR bug @solitudedude mentioned (if this even was a bug...)

Just a Stroll by killy9999 2020-04-22T08:02:25Z

The game is quite fun and I liked the gameplay, which was really simple, yet challenging. At first it seems like it's an easy one, but later on it's gets harder and harder. I managed to get 710 and I stopped after this score.

What I liked: - simple gameplay - oldschool graphics - psychedelic music

What I didn't like: - bread throwing mechanism was too weak from gameplay side - it didn't give that much and the bread was really limited anyway

My ideas how to develop the project: - add more psychedelic music and some gameplay mechanism that makes the game more hallucinatory - make some big obstalces that entirely block the player - poisoned bread maybe, which kills the bird that eats it?

Overall score: nothing mind-blowing, but a very solid and fun title. I definately enjoyed it!

city beats by causalpigeon 2020-04-23T17:27:10Z

It's simmilar to flappy bird, but much more boring. The gameplay is really simple and I didn't really liked it, even though it might fit a mobile game. And why the hell did you call me a loser? :( The only good thing here were graphics, especially variety of objects that were falling down.

city beats by causalpigeon 2020-04-23T22:43:32Z

@causalpigeon No problem, my critique might be a bit harsh, but it's honest and we all know that working under time pressure is very hard. The fact that the game was mobile style isn't a problem - it's okay to make simple games for jams and later on rewrite it for Android. I hope you got some great experience which will result with a great game for next Ludum Dare!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Into the Castle by groverburger 2021-04-29T00:17:45Z

Enjoyable, fun game. The boss fight was hard, but afert 15 mins or so I managed to beat it! I liked it. :)

Deep Meditation by Evil_As_Shit 2021-04-28T19:44:12Z

52nd. :D Very simple, maybe too simple.

Depths of Fear by Evannex 2021-04-28T19:56:58Z

I liked the design of the enemies, even though there are only a few of them (I found the tentacles, the squid and the alien eel thingie (nice easter egg btw). It's easy at first, but then it becomes really, really hard eventually. I still felt bored after a while and didn't really want to get to the endgame, if there is any. I wish the gameplay was more engaging and fun! Anyway good job and thanks for posting your entry for the jam!

The Chasm by Re-Markable 2021-04-27T19:50:43Z

I played the original (bugged) version and didn't encounter any bugs, so that was actually quite a nice surprise. The game is quite simple, as long as you don't fall into the water on the 3rd riddle like I did. Anyway I managed to finish it and I enjoyed it enough to be sad that there are no more levels! The graphic was okay and the music was great - good, chill vibe!

Deep Space: Beyond by Mordechai 2021-04-27T04:51:21Z

@makkurataichou Thanks for your feedback! We decided not to include any kind of minimap just to make sure, that the game recreates the atmosphere of getting lost on a spaceship. Although there are no indicators, we placed some small particles to highlight most interactable items! Thanks for playing and cheers!

@apos Thanks for playing! There are two passcodes you need to find out and type in a console in order to proceed the story further. You can find them in a notes hidden is some rooms!

Deep Space: Beyond by Mordechai 2021-04-28T18:44:24Z

@sigill Thanks for playing and for your feedback! Sorry for not including some kind of UI that would show you on what level you are - we had planned it, but we simply forgot to implement it on the last day of the jam. We thought of more puzzles or interactive elements, but we wanted the player to focus on the atmosphere and the story, so we decided against them. Thanks again for playing!

The Spectrum Soup by SplitPainter 2021-04-27T19:26:42Z

I have to agree with @fabula-rasa comment. This has some modern art museum vibes, but made as a computer game. Rather interesting, but it's hard to focus on reading everything since there is no story whatsoever. I liked it though.

Dear Child by deformhead 2021-04-27T16:46:02Z

I don't really know whether you may call it a "game", since it lacks most of the mechanics, but I am okay with that, given the heavy focus on the story and graphics/video stuff. I like the atmosphere and mood and the overall experience, but it's hard to rate is as a game...

DO NOT INSERT INSIDE THE EAR CANAL!!! by cheesepencil 2021-04-28T02:24:33Z

I don't even know how to rate it so I'm gonna leave a comment: LOL, GG WP.

The Bothnia Trench by Milestone Games 2021-05-02T01:10:16Z

Short, but interesting point and click. Too bad it ended so quickly, because I was really immersed in the story. I liked it, there was a nice polishing and good storybuilding.

Decay by KeithSwanger 2021-04-28T23:48:00Z

Quite deep and very disturbing. More of an experience then a game. I don't know how to rate it. xD

Hellevator by baconn00 2021-04-27T12:13:20Z

I've seen the game yestarday on stream and only now after some sleep had time to actually play it. I spent about 30 minutes or so and din't manage to finish the game, but I had a LOT of fun and really liked all aspects of the game! I don't really find any major flaws, the only one might be is that the game is quite hard to master when it comes to collision and moving your character, but it doesn't affect the experience that much, so I was fine with that. You did an awesome job and I hope you'll participate in next Ludum Dare events! :)

Btw. this game really reminded me of the movie "Devil"... Combined with "The Exorcist", of course :D

Deep in the sea by hamzaplayssssssssss 2021-04-25T23:11:00Z

Very deep and challenging game. The story is quite interesting, but I think like it needed a bit more polishing. I liked it though, but nothing fancy. The gameplay is repetetive, which is probably a biggest flaw. Had fun playing it though, so I'm fine with that.

Get Down Mr. Lucifer! by Trungler 2021-04-27T19:34:51Z

The game is quite fun, although controls were quite hard to master. Levels were quite empty and no that many enemies or things to do. Enjoyable game, but it definately could have had a lot more!

Vulcan's Tomb by Simul 2021-04-28T20:17:06Z

I got to the thrid levels but I didn't really beat it. I must say that the gameplay is strange, which isn't exacly a bad thing, but I was really confused while playing, at least at first. The visual style and music were fine though, so they made the whole experience much more enjoyable. Luckily I did not encounter the bug you mentioned. :)

Thanks for posting your entry and congratulations on finishing the game!

Engarde by Fartorias 2021-04-27T20:04:45Z

I'm a super player! The game itself is fun to play and I liked the boss fight, but there's just not enough content in here. Those coins are too easy to get too, it wasnt a challenge at all to find them all! Having said that, I think the game has a lot of potential and I would like to emphasize that I really enjoyed playing it!

HELL deep is your love? by Villanelle 2021-04-27T12:19:26Z

I really enjoyed the game on @manlymanton stream (as you might remember), so I decided to try it myself.... Well, it turns out I don't really have the patience needed to go through all the levels. I managed to beat three on them, but got stuck on the fourth and I guess I'm done. But having said that - I had a tremendous ammount of fun and I enjoyed EVERY aspect of the game, which is quite rare for Ludum Dare. What stands out? Well, I'd point out to great aesthetics (Terraria meets The Binding of Isaac), lovely music (add the link to the Soundcloud here please :D) and very good level design. If there was one thing I would change, I'd probably polish a bit main characters animations, especially jumping and bending down, but it wasn't much of a flaw at the first place.

I can't wait for you next LD game guys, of course if you will want to participate again!

LD52 — Harvest

Crisis in Banana Republic by one-seed-fruit 2023-01-12T15:25:53Z

Giff banana? Okay, challenge accepted!

I managed to beat 6 levels, got a bit bored on the seventh. Nice logical game, quite challenging on some levels. I like the vibe and the graphics.

I Require Human Parts by Flaterectomy 2023-01-20T22:57:09Z

The messages are a real MVP. :) Short and fun text game -- Among Us is an obvious reference. Nothing special, but I really enjoyed it. Actually, I made a game with a similar story for Ludum Dare 48 called "Deep Space: Beyond", you can check it out if you are interested.

I Require Human Parts by Flaterectomy 2023-01-22T19:44:22Z

@flaterectomy Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the Alien franchise is an obvious guess. Also "The Thing", I suppose.

I'll make a little spoiler for my game: you shouldn't care about oxygen, it won't kill you or affect the game result. I will leave it up to you to figure why. :)

humble fungal by jelch 2023-01-20T21:11:55Z

It felt kind of a walking simulator. I really liked it. Didn't get all the mushrooms. Instead of that I just was wandering around the forest, as I found it really chilly and fun!

Subnuggets by unless games 2023-01-13T20:17:31Z

What's the purpose of the game, actually? I explored everything, but shooting at the subnuggets seemed to deprive me out of oxygen... Anyway, I liked the artstyle and the overall vibe, so it wasn't that bad. ;)

Drillydown by Peter Jonsson 2023-01-12T21:12:47Z

A very fun experience. The game is polished and I really liked the art style. I managed to beat lvl 12. What I didn't like The snail was introduced a bit too late but hey, it made the game significantly harder.

Bank Harvester by malibaturhan 2023-01-13T20:02:25Z

The inverted mouse made me dizzy, please fix it. I managed to get all the plants that were needed (although 80 white ones were a bit too much - it started to be too grindy) and be amused by the lovely "NOT ENOUGH MONEY" voice line. I went to get the skull... And I wasn't able to make it. Something bugged and there was an invisible wall right by the bridge over the stream. Too bad I wasn't able to get the skull and finish the game.

Travelling Tea Maker by detectiveLosos 2023-01-20T20:08:33Z

As it turned out in the first play, I was a really terrible tea shop owner. Although I did not make any money, I still got "The money you've made on your journey was enough to buy a hut near The Capital.", which kinda broke the immersion...

But I decided to make myself a tea in real world and replay the game. And I did much better!

I really loved the story and the atmosphere, as I am a tea lover myself. The game probably will be in my top 5 entries this jam. One thing though -- during my second play, in the ending, I got this:

"After you got to know him a little better you realized he is not that bad of a person. You asked him once, if he ever got his golden ring back. The Merchant: You should have never given it to the guards. They probably pawned it in the nearest stall."

I never spoke to the merchant about a ring nor did I get it from him, so you must have made an error during programming/story writing. :)

Overall, well done!

Harvest is coming by thomasward 2023-01-12T10:54:47Z

@shahinm Hey, sorry for that. The first build of the game had a critical error and it didn't simply run for some reason. We fixed it in accordance to the jam rules, so it works now. You can give it a try, if you want to! ;)

Harvest is coming by thomasward 2023-01-12T13:37:24Z

@iluvatar Thank you for your opinion! It's so nice to hear from Eru Ilúvatar himself. ;) We will certainly take care of bugged dialogue windows in a few weeks, as we plan to make a polished post-jam version of the game.

PS. I already had your game in my must play list before you posted. I will surely give it a try in a few days.

Harvest is coming by thomasward 2023-01-12T20:15:42Z

@papabirb Thank you for the detailed critique. You are obviously right, the game needs a lot of polishing. And perhaps the balance is not the best -- however all 3 endings are surely achievable.

The fishing is rigged, yes. We should have made it achievable to get 1 or 2 or 3 fish, but we didn't have time to implement it. This must be frustrating to play, sorry. The dogs runs away and we even had dialogue prepared for it, but yet again -- no time to implement it.

Regarding the choices -- you have a sound that implies that the choice you made was meaningful. And I assure it matters. So is the medicine puzzle, but you need to get the right colour, which might be hard. :)

Yet again, thanks for your detailed opinion! We will try to implement all of proposed changes sin the post jam version of the game. I hope you had some fun and it wasn't that bad after all!

Harvest is coming by thomasward 2023-01-13T13:10:00Z

Hey @sharks, thank you for a really detailed opinion. Yeah, it seems like we need to focus much more on the UI/bugs/game's feedback and overall playability on the next jam. :)

Harvest is coming by thomasward 2023-01-19T19:31:04Z

@fromage That's a nice idea, thank you for that! We planned to make this game a bit longer (two extra days) and the son would fall ill after the first day, however we had to cut it out due to lack of time. But yes, you are obviously right, showing a happy family and then ruining their hapiness is quite a dirty trick. :D

Jack the Reaper by FabDynamic 2023-01-12T16:20:00Z

Simple, quick and entertaining game. It's quite easy, but hey -- arcade games shouldn't be that much of a challenge, should they? A nice mixture of Pacman and Minesweeper lol.

Druid's House by LuizGT 2023-01-20T21:21:25Z

Played the game 3 times, managed to get 282 highscore. It took me a while to realise how to get updates. They were quite useful. And the gameplay was really fun and challenging. I wish there were two or three types of enemies, but this is a compo game, so no worries. Overall, a fun entry.

Scythe by beats 2023-01-13T20:46:18Z

scythe.png

Will I get a reward for beating your record? ;) The game is really fun and simple. I really like the fact that every aspect of the game works towards building this great retro aesthetic. I got bored after a few minutes of playing and it probably won't be in my top 10 games this jam, but hey, it was a splendind work anyway and I had a lot of FUN!

Fall's Tome by pepnou 2023-01-13T13:27:50Z

I got three stars for photos of everything but the bee hive, which I couldn't locate. Where is it? :D Anyway, nice, chill and relaxing game. The artworks definately stands out.

Fall's Tome by pepnou 2023-01-20T21:52:30Z

Hey, a quick update. The game stuck in my mind and a couple of days ago I had to make an important presentation in one of the classes in my college. I could invent any topic I wanted (as long as it were in line with the course theme) and I spoke about "how environment is percieved in walking game simulators". I included your game among quite a lot of very well known and less know walking sims. :)

Fall's Tome by pepnou 2023-01-22T19:42:20Z

"Visual arts and environment"

It helped me illustrate that most of the walking simulators either portray the nature in utopian way (the motif of Arcadia -- this is your case) or uses it as a weird/unusual/odd background (The vanishing of Ethan Carter etc.).

Poormetheus by squashi 2023-01-13T13:16:40Z

Short, nice and clean story game. I tried to be, hm... As mythologically accurate as possible, so I had the slightly worse ending, at least for Prometheus.

The Intern Reaper by Lepetisuisse 2023-01-12T16:10:54Z

Interesting game. I really liked the story and the little twist after the first segment. It made the game challenging. The dude in the suit during the dialogues in hillarious. :)

Propaganda by She Wrote 2023-01-12T20:52:52Z

I beat it! It's a bit repetetive towards the end, but it was satysfying to get all the FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! And the aesthetic is really awesome.

Necrotic Harvest by TheJookerful 2023-01-20T20:22:10Z

At first I had a hard time figuring out what to do, but after a few seconds I got the idea and got 36 points. In the second attemp I got 58, so not that bad. The game is quite fun and satysfying. The audio stands out for a compo game. The interperation of the theme is also really fitting -- much better then all other "soul harvesting" games. Overall, a really strong entry, congratulations!

GAKKI the Water Harvester by ironhandMD 2023-01-12T14:56:19Z

I actually managed to beat the game and get a bit more then 60 water containers. There was no proper ending and for a second I thought I missed something, but hey - ultimately I was happy to achieve the goal. And here's my review.

The game idea is really simple. Maybe a bit repetetive and boring in the core, but I somehow got invested and wanted to beat it. I got lost on the map pretty quickly, but I know that's the whole purpose of the gameplay, so no worries. I really liked those few events that I encountered and I tried to locate them. A managed to find one of the prizes from the event. I wish there were a few more events to find. The upgrades were easy, but really useful -- that's great!

I encountered a few people but only one of them (or maybe two) had some dialogue. I just "ate" a few of animated, jumping stickman, which was kinda funny. I wonder if this was bugged or you did it on purpose, but it had no effect on the game. Perhaps eating a guy could give an extra water container (after all humans are water, aren't they?).

The graphics were fine for a jam game -- no complains here. Of course they could have been much better, but they were fun enough. I couldn't hear the music, as I was playing the game during the university classes -- sorry for that, I'm sure it's great. :D

Overall a nice and entertaining entry. It won't be in my top 5 jam games for sure, but I liked the experience. Well done!

Soullector by milq 2023-01-13T21:13:51Z

I got 33 souls and escaped. The game was easy, but I died once, killed by the witch lady. Had to figure out a way to deal with her, but it turned out to be pretty easy. :)

A very good entry for a compo game. The game has the right vibe, gameplay is simple yet fun and the music is just awesome (really, I like the main and only theme so much)! If I were to change something, I would probably try to add a better boss (this big, white ball is really simple to beat) and checkpoints along the way. But hey, it's a compo entry, there probably wouldn't be time to do that anyway.

Chicken Feast by Neollok 2023-01-13T21:01:51Z

I killed most of the chicked and then ate them. I didn't find the den, where is it exacly? The game is cute and as a compo entry quite fine, but it lacks a purpose and the gameplay gets boring really fast. Also, I wish there were some trees or bushes, it would make the game feel slightly better.

Organ Trail by maymay 2023-01-13T20:30:15Z

Hey, I beat the game and learned the little twist. Graphics and vibes are good, I liked the ending and the liitle jokes here and there. Fun one. I wish the story was more complicated, perhaps with a few dialogue choices. And maybe an easy and a hard mode, as the game was rather easy. ;)

Harvest Inn by paloobi 2023-01-12T15:12:40Z

I managed to earn 305 coins and decided to retire. ;)

The game is nicely executed. I loved the cozy idea. The gameplay was fine too. I wish there were a few more crops to choose, but hey, this was a compo entry and I shouldn't really complain :D

TanksGiving by Zonoxx 2023-01-13T20:55:24Z

I got 20575 harvest points. Died some time after the "double everything" kicked in. Simple, fun and funny game. If I were to change something, I'd make the tank run a bit faster. Also, make proper animations for the tank and maybe one-two more types of enemies. But it's just me complaining -- the game is good, so don't worry. :D

URSA MAIOR by ekaktusz 2023-01-20T21:03:39Z

Wow, this game is quite good! I loved the creative approach to the theme and an overall atmosphere. The graphics, music, gameplay and the story really fit together. I only wish that the pacing was a bit different, since the ending space part felt really rushed, but other then that -- I don't have any comments.

Xenith by Richard Vollebregt 2023-01-15T15:00:28Z

The game wasn't as hard as some others mentioned above, actually it was pretty easy, if you mastered the warp drive. I played for about 10 minutes and got bored. I really liked the music which had this unique spacesyth vibe (and I really like spacesynth, although it is a dead music genre nowadays). Also, I really enjoyed controlling the ship.

Imp by Savidiy 2023-01-13T20:38:44Z

(S)imp - the game. I finished it. :) It was okay, I really liked that the portals were a nice shortcut to get back to the sorceress. The gameplay got a bit boring towards the end, but for a compo entry it was very well made. Nice job!

Lunaculture by Auros 2023-01-20T20:49:39Z

I lasted until week 6, in which I didn't achieve the objective and decided to finish my playthrough. A really simple game, that fits the theme very well. Considering the graphics and a number of different crops and options, it is a really well-done game for a game jam. If I were to point out some flaws, I'd say that the gameplay got really repetetive after some time (although it is this kind of game, so I don't mind that too much). Also, I couldn't build another dome for some strange reason, even though I bought a blueprint? Anyway, I left a good grade, as this game was really nice!

Harvest of Life by schnodelfactory 2023-01-20T22:50:39Z

Nice graphics and sound. I didn't get the good ending, unfortunately, even though I played the game twice. I wish the story was a bit more coherent.

Harvester with Iron Hat by DK Game Labs 2023-01-13T21:26:46Z

I played for about 15 minutes and got a bit bored. Typical grinding game. The upgrade levels were set a bit too high and some of the upgrades are much better then others, while the prices are the same, but it's just a minor balance issue. The whole game idea is interesting and the gameplay was rather fun and that's what counts!

Sacred Harvest by Wake1st 2023-01-20T20:16:56Z

The sounds design is awesome! The throat-chanting reminded me of sardakaurs from the new "Dune" adaptation. :) There's not much to be said about the story though. It's well written and it has a really unique atmosphere, but it serves only as a beggining of a larger tale. I explored all three available options and I felt satisfied, although I would love to play the full game with finished story.
