this one felt a little too real haha, was good fun though. i wish you luck in the contest! :)

owinmowe 2020-04-21 21:21

Oh god, don't let me live this again. Even the neverending day is exactly like this. Thanks, i hate it :)

rokevicius 2020-04-21 22:11

Good graphics!

zvyaga 2020-04-21 22:19

Short course how not to burn out at work

adonisdevs 2020-04-21 22:20

This is neat! There were a lot of things to do but not enough pressure to get them done. Other than that, good game :)

snowtoast 2020-04-21 22:25

For some tasks it was not really clear where to do them. And I also failed some task and the game did not end. But overall a nice concept and graphics.

solitudedude 2020-04-21 22:31

The game launches steam vr on startup. No big deal, just weird. But I couldn't get past the first text box that tells you to press e to continue. I could interact with desks and the coffee maker but I couldn't get rid of the message box. Opening the todo list just showed an empty notepad. While this is all going on, the boss is getting mad at me in the top right corner of the screen. :sob: I'll probably be fired... haha

Game looks fun! I wish I could have played it properly.

big-evil-corporation 2020-04-21 22:31

Waaaayyy too real

pele90 2020-04-21 22:44

@solitudedude You need to interact with the boss's door to get a quest. After you interact with the door the other dialogue should disappear. If not, you found a bug. :) Thanks for the comments. P.S. whaaat....VR...lol

pfs 2020-04-22 07:29

@solitudedude Yea, the first text box can't be removed by pressing E. You have to go to the boss (door) to remove it. The "press E to continue" here is redundant.

Cool idea and art, but a little more feedback when doing the tasks would have been nice

ohfiddlediddle 2020-04-22 08:22

Very nice art style, I really like it. :) Main thing the game needed IMO is some kind of failure state (unless there was one and I was just too good?).

Overall though, quite fun. Keep up the great work! :D

Short game, quite fun, but gets boring really fast.

What I liked: - The quests felt like a real thing. Altough my bosses in all my recent jobs were much better, I still had to bring them water or coffee all the time. And they got crunky without it. - Swift animations and graphics - I just really like this visual style! (Although, again, it gets boring really fast) - Interpretation of the theme - the fact that the game gets boring quite fast is a great way to express a boredom of a pointless job that you have to "keep alive" in order to economically survive - this is great! - (Almost) no feedback from the boss: this makes the game feel real too

What I didn't like: - There was quite a lot of free space in office which could have been filled with more content :) - The office atmosphere was lacking, mostly due to no toilets (this would have been a nice quest) or social rooms. - Lack of sound is annoying (and I didn't like the music too)

My ideas for further work on the game: - you can add more rooms with content - make an ending: good and bad one - maybe a few easter eggs to Kafka novels (this game has some "The Trial" and "The Castle" vibes)

Overall soundly: Nothing extraordinary, just a simple, nicely made game for about 10 minutes of gameplay. I'm probably going to forget it soon and remind myself about it after some "The Office" rewatch.

PS. I **didn't** have this VR bug @solitudedude mentioned (if this even was a bug...)

dobrila 2020-04-22 08:38

@ohfiddlediddle you can fail the game if you fail a larger number of quests.. you never know when you'll get fired xD thank you for your feedback! :)) glad you liked it !

pfs 2020-04-22 09:28

@thomasward Lack of stuff in the level and also sound effects is mostly due to lack of time :( Thanks for the feedback!

minusc 2020-04-22 11:10

You took the theme on your own way, that's quite fun. The game is nice, graphics are quite pretty. I enjoyed guessing the tasks, and did a few retry to have them all. It was fun, good job !

kostasvs 2020-04-22 11:32

Fun game, liked the pixel art! Must say though, 200mb is a lot!

nikchernyakov 2020-04-22 11:33

Good work! I like the office atmosphere in the game and the tasks which purpose I need to guess. Good art style.

pfs 2020-04-22 12:42

@kostasvs UE4 doesn't do 2d well :D

demkimos 2020-04-22 14:17

The graphics are good and smooth. The tasks and the dialogues are humorous (the "journal entries" as well). I think there's a lot of sound effects that could be added to make it so much better. I also felt a lack of punishment for not completing tasks on time so I felt no rush to know what my boss wants - it's missing some of that essential workplace pressure. On that note, I did find out you can pick up multiple tasks by standing at the door and waiting for the next one (which is pretty weird) and since you can just get one task do it and go back, that feature doesn't reach its full potential.

There's much more content and funny tidbits that can be added here and there. It has the workings of a very good game, though, good job!

solitudedude 2020-04-22 17:18

@pfs Ah, I completely misread the prompt. I thought I had to press E to remove the message. Thanks for pointing it out!

Was able to play through the game. I enjoyed it. The pixel art is very well done! Great job!

The VR issue really isn't an issue, just odd. Pops up the steam vr window which can be closed. I guess just a weird unreal thing. haha steamvr.jpg

pfs 2020-04-22 17:32

It's a generic unreal win64 build, I have no idea why steam thinks there's VR :o

hare-software 2020-04-22 20:28

The graphics are very nice and I think the game works really with the theme. What I did miss is having influence on the environment. I was doing all these tasks, but nothing really changed. In essence I was walking around pressing buttons without a clear idea of what I was doing. While this game is good, I think that this added interaction would make it actually great. Hope to see more of your work in the next Ludum Dare!

louspirit 2020-04-23 14:38

Nice environment in which we dive easily in! What I missed is *feedback*. Feedback when a task is done, feedback when the interaction worked or not we people/objects. I was doing the mission and suddenly I lost my jobs, I did't understand why.

fabula-rasa 2020-05-11 23:09

It is a nice start on a game but it does feel unfinished - or maybe rather unpolished. Many events repeat themselves, sometimes you have the same one twice in a row and that destroyed my immersion in this world. I mean, it makes some sense if your boss tells you to give him coffee twice in a row, but to fire Anders? I guess Anders didn't hear the first time

The graphics are quite nice and I really liked how completely uninterested in life my character looked. The music was quite pleasant. The concept is great and I think you could run with it.

I wish the environment provided more feedback as well. Some does, which is great (like people or a coffee maker) but the rest just treats you to ellipsis whether you actually needed to interact with it at the moment or not.

But, in any case, it is still a solid jam game!
