LD46 — Keep it alive

Robot Repair Shop Incorporated by been 2020-04-21T13:25:48Z

I think this is (edit: one of) my favorite so far. I'll just list down why this game is good: * Audio is genius - Music is catchy and very much follows the direction of the game, the little audio bits are humorous. It's just so silly but well done. Also the sfx. * Gameplay is fun - I thought the game would be too easy but then you try plugging in leaks every two seconds and see how that goes! Finger acrobatics. * Theme was well worked and unique - A lot of the games in LD46 either tip into the serious side of things or go too far in their nonchalance and pounds the pressure on you. This game is very relaxing but the time still ticks, making you feel like an actual jolly robot repair mechanic.

The art can do with a little work but it is quite okay. I would love to be a robot overlord.

He Protec by ildfuglen 2020-04-21T12:51:49Z

This game is pretty good. Simple yet effective. The fans could get real loud sometimes so prepare your ears. The creators did a great job of working with the theme. Good job!

Feed Pete by damagefilter 2020-04-21T11:16:28Z

Very fun and cute game! The models are great and the animations are splendid. Love the little bushes bouncing to the music. I don't have any way from far away to tell if Pete is dying, though, and the health bar could be more visible. There's also a weird thing happening with the throw button (turns and throws backwards). Good job! Could very well have been a widely released game. Oh, also if there was any way to fix mouse sensitivity, that would be awesome. I felt a bit dizzy afterwards .

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-22T07:18:57Z

Very cool puzzle game. There's quite some thought put into each level and the innovations on playing with the rules of the game are great. Even with the relaxed pace of the game, the creators were still able to spur on the player's worry of dying. Everyone could easily get on with this game. With more levels and a mobile port, it could become a hit. Thanks for the game!

Part Of The Ship by LordKawaii 2020-04-21T10:59:41Z

Alright. This game is good to pass the time. Quite fun and pressuring. I do like the OS crash bit  and all those little things that complete the feel. I think, though, there are some bits that could be worked on: - The graphics feels like it could be further improved, especially as the ship hull life goes down. - Without any score or objective (e.g. time), it loses its charm after a while of going back and forth so I don't really feel if I'm doing any good or bad. - Or perhaps more stuff to juggle or some hard-hitting events.

Thanks for the game! Keep it up!

Part Of The Ship by LordKawaii 2020-04-22T04:04:16Z

@darkshikar With simple UI, every little detail is a huge bonus so I would always suggest looking at *references and inspirations*! These could be internal and external ship diagrams and the like but, of course, anything that doesn't represent something in the ship could take away from the cleanliness. Putting the elements behind the screen's texture works, too. But to add to the atmosphere, things breaking down, cracks on the screen, more noticeable red lights as the ship's hull goes down would work. I hope that helps!

Isle of Light by Lexi89 2020-04-21T09:35:58Z

I was going crazy until I found the mixtape. This one is one of the most immersive games in LD46. It has very nostalgic vibes. I felt that it was my last day alone in the universe and, well, you gotta make do with what you have. So good! Kudos to the creator.

Haywire by DrewG8 2020-04-22T08:53:41Z

The art is effective and the gameplay is very interesting. I had to keep an eye on many things while playing though there's not a lot of pressure on the temperature which is one of the innovations of the game. Great concept.

Quite Contrary by chelC 2020-04-22T03:17:34Z

Double post. Sorry :3

Quite Contrary by chelC 2020-04-22T03:19:52Z

This is a lovely game. Very chill and relaxing. The art is good for the atmosphere it brings and the visitors :eyes: I want to get to know them all. There is a problem with overlapping sprites where you can't select one of the two which is a tiny bit limiting but aside from that, it's all good. Thanks!

Fleur Defense by SamStallion 2020-04-22T15:14:46Z

Really great game! I was able to spend so much time on the game. The graphics and animations are so cute. Fleur Defense really lives up to the name and doesn't disappoint. I thought the price for the nuke was pretty steep but looks like someone did get it so I guess I'll need to go for a second time  I thought everything was pretty straightforward but not once did it lose its charm. I don't really know what to complain about so I guess that's a good thing. Well balanced, I think; the hydration timers did not once leave me alone to rest. Thank you so much for the game!

Missing Pieces by Abu Sabiq Mahdi 2020-04-22T10:47:05Z

That was really charming. The basis of the game is really just close to the heart. My favorite part about it, of course, is its welcoming atmosphere and sense of pondering. The music level could be done better, especially with the overlapping music and the error sounds. And the last level could be very confusing to many because they're not properly introduced to that concept of the gameplay; much like greeting the heart, you should ease them into it gently. I'm sure you guys would be able to come up with more innovations on the puzzles so good luck. I hope you add a bigger story to the main character, as well. Heartwarming game! Thank you for the short rest.

Faire L'Amour aux Plantes by Jenny Bourke 2020-04-22T10:20:06Z

Quite the weird game. The gameplay sure could be improved, I think there could be more interesting challenges than adding more plants. The premise is ridiculous and funny, though. Quand même, j'ai eu plaisir avec votre jeu. Bon travail et merci beacoup

Dance Dance Unicorn of Magic! by Kagerowo 2020-04-22T08:30:15Z

Groovy. A nice bg for the start screen (and the end screen, too), it gives off everything there is to a dancing unicorn of magic and the huge sorrow of losing it. However, with all that hype on the bg, I was a bit let down by the in-game dance floor; I could see many improvements could be made on that area. A good job, nonetheless. The rate of fire is certainly slow but I like how it matches the beats (~~I'm not sure if that was the intended purpose but if it is, then WOW~~ I discovered power ups haha. But it would have been cool to match it with the beat). I thought the monsters would have different health, too. Anyway, good job. There is quite some potential here.

Apocalypse Baby by STREETGEEK 2020-04-21T13:44:16Z

I agree, the biggest problem it seems is the bullet detection. I have a feeling it only "fires" one projectile and only registers headshots. Which is really disappointing when I'm holding a shotgun. Sounds and rate of fire could use a bit of work, as well. It is an auto shotgun, after all. And, yes, some way to keep track of bullets and reload even when you have bullets. The textures are pretty cool, though, and the atmosphere is pretty badass.

*I feel no fear in the face of a zombie horde if I got my baby and my shotgun*

Someone called for an ambulance? by Bauke Regnerus 2020-04-21T16:53:44Z

Great game. One of my faves. Lovely music and cute poly objects. Movement was confusing at first but renders itself to some insanely fun drifts later on and once mastered, gets really exciting. The map design is great, nothing like jumping off a cliff or running down the runway to the great sea below. The unlockable regions are a nice touch, as well. It lacks a bit in the sound effects but overall, a splendid job by the creators.

Runaway by HackTrout 2020-04-23T06:48:00Z

It's a nice game. Cool graphics and sound. My only issue is with the shooting. It seems difficult to aim? I'm just not hitting people or perhaps it's the cover. And also face-checking into trains and being punished immediately is no fun. Aside from that, it was a job well done!

The Cave by Gonzako 2020-04-22T14:29:06Z

It's pretty cool but I find it very... *empty*. Not a fan of the jump landing sound effect and I think the music could be a lot more daring (but that's my opinion). The controls could also use some work, I think, since the jump was surprisingly high for the speed of the character. I could see an idea behind it and it can very much be the work I was expecting from the screenshot. Those zoom outs were reaaally cool and gave me a lot of "Oh shiz, what could be down there?" fear that I think embodies the dark, unknown cave. A real nice touch. Hope there's more to come! Kudos.

Satisfy'n: Keep the Love Alive by BlackOpsBen 2020-04-22T07:46:20Z

That was a very funny game. I have so many little spawns running around . Biggest issue is the car noise which was very distracting. Fortunately, I think it bugged out and disappeared when I got too swole. For a demo game, it was worth my while. I hope you can add more stuff to do in the game.

The Given Path by Jvdwijk 2020-04-23T03:44:40Z

~~Sorry. Different game. Will post my comments on this one in a moment.~~

Alright. That was rather interesting. The movement was something unexpected. Without the proper animations, I found it hard to tell if the enemy was throwing a card (since it always showed me the pineapple?). The cards could be made bigger since it's hard to read it when it's small. I would have thought the camera would follow the character and being able to move it I guess made it much easier. My heart did jump when one of them spotted me haha so the suspense is there. Needs some work but overall, nice entry.

Flippy Fish by Doot 2020-04-21T07:47:50Z

Very fun and funny game! Everything is real simple and neat  Was drawn to it immediately when I saw the games. Thanks for such a wonderful entry!

Tumbleweed by Brenan 2020-04-22T05:29:25Z

Just visually stunning. Music, sound effects, and the tidbits of text were a big part of the mood-setter. You did a wonderful job of gradually breaking us in to the intricacies of the gameplay and just when I was wondering what else you could put in, a new and often surprising thing comes to greet us. I think the controls added a lot of "Will I make it?" cross-fingered moments and that's really a lot considering we're investing our time on watching a tumbleweed roll around. There were instances I think that some lasers would penetrate hard surfaces. And also it does get quite difficult to see my tumbleweed when the camera is inside a structure. It can also get quite laggy. All in all, a wonderful job! Gameplay, check. Level design, check. Audio, check. Visuals, triple check. Thanks for the experience!

Seeking Past by DylanPiserchia 2020-04-22T15:36:57Z

It is... interesting. I think it has a good idea at its core but there are a couple of things that did not sit well with me. The movement is too fast for the animation of the character. I also found it quite odd that there was no slashing mechanic, just stick them with the pointy end and tap the movement buttons a bit. Which brings to another point: the character just moves too fast for the enemies. In the end, I didn't even have to use my sword since I could easily outmaneuver the enemy (so why bring a sword anyway?). I think if there was a better way to make the character reliant on the sword, it could bring it all together (and also more *memories* to the memories haha). It was also surprising to see that the memories spawn one by one instead of being in set locations at the start. The models and music were okay, though. Good job and well done.

Shape Select! by frances 2020-04-21T08:29:54Z

Addicting! That was really quite the panic starter. Takes a few games to get going. The pressure is REAL. Kept cursing all the way through . The theme is not as encapsulated but the game is still great! Also, perhaps there is a way to make the criteria easier to read or recognize.

Battery Life by Morriekken 2020-04-21T12:40:54Z

Hey there, Team 4boa! Like the simplicity and neatness of the screen, everything is easily identifiable and there really is not much to be confused about. I was going to complain that there was no indication of the battery but I figured that the game is just zoomed in, probably something with the aspect ratios. Anyway, it was fun and humorous. I'd also like to add that music can go a long way. Kudos!

Task Manager by pele90 2020-04-22T14:17:58Z

The graphics are good and smooth. The tasks and the dialogues are humorous (the "journal entries" as well). I think there's a lot of sound effects that could be added to make it so much better. I also felt a lack of punishment for not completing tasks on time so I felt no rush to know what my boss wants - it's missing some of that essential workplace pressure. On that note, I did find out you can pick up multiple tasks by standing at the door and waiting for the next one (which is pretty weird) and since you can just get one task do it and go back, that feature doesn't reach its full potential.

There's much more content and funny tidbits that can be added here and there. It has the workings of a very good game, though, good job!

Anti-Matter by MikDionio 2020-04-21T08:01:35Z

The game is quite effective even with very simple graphics. Love the feel you're going for there and thematically, this one is on point. Good job! I would have preferred to have more heart-pumping music or something that would really take the adrenaline up. All in all, it's a yes for me

Last Light by LykaWolfie 2020-04-21T11:29:25Z

Hey, Anna (@morriekken)! Thank you very much for the comment! The *depleting battery* while hidden actually has its explanation in the original storyline. We were also thinking of having voice overs for the tutorials and also to add to the story of the game. There were a lot more planned for this: more enemy types, more levels, etc. We soon found out we wouldn't be able to do all that within the deadline . I guess this is all for our submission but we're still thinking if we can take it further outside of Ludum Dare.

Last Light by LykaWolfie 2020-04-22T10:53:15Z

Thanks for all the comments! We'll be sure to take them to heart. Sorry about that bug @caladrius @toffanim! I thought we covered that bug already. If you can tell us when it happens, we'd love to be able to fix it; we'll try reproducing that bug on our end, as well.

Last Light by LykaWolfie 2020-04-22T11:37:00Z

@caladrius @toffanim Oh, I see! Thanks for the replies. Rapid switching won't work on the monsters effectively and I believe they'll just build up their speed. A big part of the enemy movement is their incredible max speed and the velocity they retain after switching off. I think this may be less a programming error but a progression mistake. It's our fault that we didn't really give the players time to get accustomed to the kinks of the light before throwing them in (the section we fondly call) "the field". In any case, we'll work on those things and hopefully we can iron it all out in the post-jam.

Last Light by LykaWolfie 2020-04-24T08:04:50Z

Thanks @joamd we'll look into that. We'll leave a comment on this thread and on the entry when we have a post-jam version out. But I think that'll be in a month or a few weeks.

Hi @ursagames! Thank you so much for trying out the game and all your patience. We got a lot of insights from watching your stream that gave us a better picture of what should be improved on (one of which is the difficulty that many other people commented about). I think we'll need to do beta testing next time around. It's not meant to be that difficult but it should at least keep you on your toes all the time. Looks like the game is in store for a huge overhaul.

Rhythm Castle - Platformer/Rhythm Game by GrizzliusMaximus 2020-04-21T09:08:42Z

Seems pretty difficult. I don't know if I lost my sense of rhythm but I just can't keep up with the beats - unlike Patapon. Also, I don't know if something should happen after completing one set. The handling of controls were good, though. Graphics and music were nice. Loved the cute sprites. Good entry.

Shapes by Finn_Tr 2020-04-23T07:13:12Z

This is a really good concept. The movement is great and felt really powerful and unique even without a mouse. The graphics and music combine to give it a really nice feel of wonder.

On to the parts that could be improved. It was very frustrating when you die at the start without doing anything (you don't even know how or why though it could be a timer or something chasing you, however, it does take away from the mood of the game). The purpose of the red line is also confusing; I thought it would kill me or do something but not really. Sometimes, the ball also goes through it or perhaps only a part of it. Despite all that, it was largely enjoyable and I would actually like to see a full version of this. Good job! Kudos.

The Dark Cave by Tom Stephenson 2020-04-23T03:45:23Z

Cool. That was actually a pretty fun and innovative game. Everything is a puzzle and there's nothing I can say about the controls. I liked the background music although I think the sound effects could be more cave-like (ie. footsteps echoing in a cave). I liked each section and the way they're introduced. It was unfortunate when I got stuck in a forever death loop when the monster sat on top of my spawn. Aside from that, it really *is* quite scary going up against that guy. The graphics were clean and nice my only problem would be some of the deadly spikes/edges don't quite look the part (they look just like the ones on the ground you can pass through). Really nice game! A post-jam game would be exciting to try.

Keep It Alive by Deadwave Games 2020-04-21T08:16:46Z

I did not look at the horror warning before starting. Thankfully, I played it during the day; quite disturbing . I like the way you pace and get the player moving.

Keep Culture Alive by Gray Fustos 2020-04-21T09:17:42Z

Cool game and lovely premise. I really felt the lack of sounds there which I think could bring the game to new heights. The points for the topics were interesting; I can only imagine how you could have accounted for anything and everything under the sun. I think a funny epilogue depending on your topics could be in order. Anyway, this is quite the interesting entry!
