LD46 — Keep it alive

The Three Sisters by dollarone 2020-05-11T13:28:20Z

This game has some potential. I liked the writing, especially the world-building of it. I also liked the inclusion of a map. It helped when making decisions. That being said, I wish there was more decision making instead of just "pick a direction." The map holds the best potential for this. Including interesting landmarks on the map, like the cave, or adding something like a hut in the forest would have better given me a goal to shoot for. (The opposite could also be said if there were hints of dangers alongside goals on the map like the bear so there's a risk-reward choice that the player has to make)

There also seems to be a resource management element since it counts your people and rations, but I didn't see any opportunities to use them or gain more. You could incorporate these into the decision making by making each choice present what resources are needed (like when you go into the cave, you send a guy, it would have been better if I knew that I would end up sending one guy, or have the choice to send someone or go myself).

The mood was setup well enough, but it maybe could have used some simple background music to really set the mood.

The Tribe by Tommy 2020-04-20T14:52:16Z

Really fun game. It was a bit confusing at first, but as I discovered the cards and upgrades, the game started to make sense. One thing it could use is some way to undo placing a card. Maybe limit it per round so that it doesn't become too OP.

LAB41902 by khaoz-fang 2020-05-05T14:03:02Z

The unique mechanics that come with this game was refreshing. It was almost like a puzzle game with the controls of a hack n' slash. The graphics, slow movement, and tension building mechanics really contributed well to the mood. I would love for you to continue working on this with some good music and sound FX as this would be an amazing game!

In the Enemy Line by Plepletier 2020-05-05T14:22:21Z

This is looking to be a really great game. I just wish the mines were slightly farther apart since they are way too difficult to get through.

Mothership by Marcionix 2020-05-04T13:36:30Z

This was the game I wanted to make but didn't have the skills to do so. Great job! The graphics are simple but effective in setting the mood, and so is the audio. Likewise, the game itself is also simple, but I found it a bit confusing at first, especially with how exactly I was supposed to keep the crew alive. Maybe some text at the start to explain my responsibilities on the ship, or a short tutorial. I got it eventually though since the symbols were super intuitive (although not sure what the benefit of lowering/ turning off the generators is).

Worm Protect Egg by Gunturtle 2020-04-20T16:42:21Z

Great looking game and really challenging, just like old arcade games :D

It is tired by Narudgi 2020-05-11T13:38:31Z

Nice relaxing game! The music really sells the idea of something sleeping. The warm color palette was also a nice touch. I found the game a bit too easy though, I felt like I could go on forever (but I got distracted by the foxes haha). I think a nice addition would be that you shouldn't move around the sleeping TV guy or else you'd wake him, but that's just a suggestion. Good job on the game!

Protect the little one by Vodzik 2020-04-21T14:22:37Z

I really like the combat. A suggestion I could give is maybe make comforting him let the bar go down faster? It made the game too slow for my taste.

Sun up by Trigueiro 2020-05-12T04:15:59Z

I understand that its unfinished but the concept behind it was really interesting! You should definitely continue working on this :D

Castle Isolation by Diccuric_Sigeon 2020-05-03T05:34:38Z

Seems fun, and the graphics and audio are great! I just wish you could see the health bars all the time for easier monitoring, and a transition of some sorts to signify the next day and a summary of what happened (resource change, XP change, etc.)

Lumina Vitreus by lilkrit 2020-05-11T15:38:38Z

Its a fun platformer. I guess it could use some improvements with pacing, especially at the beginning. I found the challenges fun and unique, but they could have been explored a bit more instead of just one time challenges. Good job.

Meteorite Pig by appix 2020-05-04T12:25:48Z

Nice game! I like the unconventional movement of the platform. It gives the game something different to master. Suggestion would be to have the asteroids move closer to the center. I found that most of the time, they just stay at the edge making them easy to dodge.

Seeking Power by gustavo.christino 2020-05-12T12:47:58Z

I played both the jam and post-jam version. The post-jam version is a lot better, but there's still a few problems especially with the jumping since I kept getting stuck when jumping up or falling down.

Battery Life by fazz 2020-04-20T15:42:35Z

The game has great atmosphere. One thing that would have made it really great is a better sense of progression. As I wandered around the warehouse, I couldn't tell if I was progressing, and how far I was from the goal.

Ballistica by SimonBeats 2020-04-20T13:45:57Z

As the turrets only fire in one direction, it would help if there was an indicator on where the next waves would come from. Also could use some indication on what the objects do, since I wasn't sure what some of the objects were.

Broadcast Bandits by zoarfy 2020-05-02T04:42:38Z

Interesting concept to a game. Had fun with it but it once I understood how the game works. There are a few bugs like seeing the missile indicator at the edge of the lanes, and one time there was two of me.

Keep It Alight by Lamasaurus 2020-04-20T14:09:10Z

Great game! Thanks for making a game about hope! I must say you have excellent level design skills. The placement of checkpoints was just right. Also, cool idea having enemies detect your light (and thus your movement)!

Keep It Alive by Ratstail91 2020-04-21T14:49:04Z

The only thing you can do is cut trees but the atmosphere is great. I love the eyes in the dark. I also ventured out to the dark and the sound really scared me.

Keep Blue Dot Alive by agegorin 2020-04-20T16:02:32Z

Really fun game! Everything contributes to the atmosphere really well. Maybe also add a score indicator so players will know how well they're doing? :)

Keep What Alive by Valeth2124 2020-05-10T13:19:42Z

Fun game with great graphics and interesting mechanics! I did however feel a bit lost. I could have used some indicators as to the food levels so I know when to need food. The music in downtown also felt a bit out of place for a pandemic going on. Also, I found a bug where I got infected while buying at the store

My inners are ours by AguaHervida 2020-04-28T13:00:56Z

Interesting concept, but I felt like I switched too few times (at least up until the part I got to). More instances of having to switch would make the core mechanic more apparent instead of just dodging all the obstacles.

Flower Defense by Tyrael 2020-04-21T15:22:31Z

That was soo much fun! Each shot is so satisfying. The game is challenging, and I almost lost near the end but it was paced so well. Only criticism for me is that the intro is a little bit too long. Other than that it was great!

The Tree of Life by Unicorn Studios 2020-05-01T14:39:30Z

This game is really great! Definitely one of the best games I played for this jam. There's something really creepy (in a good way) about the seemingly peaceful mood of the game when you see all the blood from the lumberjacks. One of my suggestions would be to have a longer timer in between rounds to give players a bit of prep time, especially at the beginning. Also the sword sound effect seems a bit out of place from the rest of the music and mood.

Holy Fire Knight by Link 2020-05-12T12:27:31Z

The game is good, with solid concept and mechanics. The art and sound effects are great. The combat could use some work though. It's hard to fight enemies since the attack effect doesn't increase with range. The enemies don't have any wind-up to their attacks so its hard to predict when an attack is coming and move out of the way.

Covid Runner by Cipery 2020-05-02T14:35:12Z

The graphics are really nice and the audio goes well with it. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but I don't seem to die even after hitting a bunch of obstacles. Also, not much reason to use the gun since I can just slide under the virus cells.

Stay home Gramps by jxavier 2020-04-20T15:47:36Z

I suggest giving the rewards for catching multiple gramps in a row or giving a penalty for not catching one to make it a bit more exciting :)

hoarde. by Geryon Games 2020-04-20T15:12:21Z

@wet-band-aid agreed the music is a bit irritating especially if you play for a long time. Another suggestion I could give is give some indicator of where the enemies will come out next so players can position themselves accordingly.

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-12T12:22:21Z

Wow! I had a lot of fun playing this one! Nice touch having the clouds also hurt enemies. The only thing I really needed was healthbars for everything so I have a better grasp of how much health something has left and can prioritize better. Other than that it was great!

The Zombies Away From Me by Sebastian Caron 2020-04-20T16:07:59Z

Simple but funny game. It is quite difficult though. Maybe have the hearts pile up and not just limit to three so it feels good to still get hearts whether your health is full or not. Also the credits button doesn't seem to be working. The game just showed me a black screen when I clicked it.

Resurrection plan by NIKond 2020-04-20T14:34:23Z

I'll admit I got frustrated at times, but it was satisfying when I got it right.

The Last Flower by Unimaginable_Code_Studios 2020-05-11T03:47:51Z

Nice game but could use some adjustments with enemy spawning and jump height on the second level, I found that part too hard for me. Enemy spawning felt kind of random and too much came at me all at once. Also, noticed some acceleration on the character movement, it made it hard to control him sometimes.

Left Behind by gamedevpersian 2020-05-02T14:54:55Z

Great concept! I the storm at the beginning was nice. Kind of wished the crystals were used for something though, like to power the base. I would love to see this fully fleshed out. Some suggestions, for the controls I forgot how to use items halfway through so maybe a way to view them after the first part would be nice. Also, for the dialogue, maybe have the first press of 'E' reveal the dialogue fully, and the next click to skip (I kept accidentally skipping dialogue so I felt kind of lost sometimes). Other than that it was great!

A Way Out by emre tahtali 2020-05-05T14:11:14Z

Nice game! I had lots of fun with it despite the simple mechanics (though I couldn't get past a certain part that's why I stopped haha). The simple graphics are also great! They help set the mood really well.

Leaning plates by thewrath 2020-05-01T14:50:10Z

Despite being really simple, the look, feel and sound effects of the game go really well together. I would have preferred a bit more challenge though, like if plates gradually fell faster as time went on. It also wasn't apparent to me the fist few times that stacking plates got me more points since it only does so at the 9th plate. Maybe have a small bonus by the 2nd or 3rd plate so its clearer that we have to stack the plates. Other than that great game :)

Stranded Pirates by Nawreua 2020-05-05T14:29:35Z

The graphics and game play seem nice but there needs to be more time per day to give new players time to figure things out and to actually do things.

Rogue Janitor by stolen_biscuit 2020-05-12T12:55:31Z

The game is interesting and unique. There's an element of mastery in knowing how to navigate the maze. Not sure if this was intentional, I'm not a fan of the art style. It made it hard to navigate, and my eyes started to hurt after a short while. It didn't help that the objects were of similar color so they didn't stand out from the rest of the environment.

The Last Spark by Landerack 2020-04-20T15:20:44Z

The aesthetics and audio was really nice. Just as a suggestion, maybe have something chase you as well so your pressured to keep moving. Other than that, great game!

Shape Select! by frances 2020-04-20T13:26:31Z

Nice! It was a bit difficult the first time, but I got the hang of it. I think this could be a great horror game if you changed the assets up a bit. There's some sense of panic induced when looking for the right shape and scary assets might help with that.

Hermann the German Dough by conrad 2020-05-02T15:12:22Z

great concept. it was kind of like a puzzle game. I would really like to see this fleshed out more. As a suggestion, I would have liked more feedback on whether or not what I was doing was right. As soon as I tried something he would end up with a sad face (except for one time, but when I tried it again it made him sad :( ). Also, there seems to be a bug where if I start a new game after dying, the new game retains my previous game's weight.

Anti-Matter by MikDionio 2020-04-20T16:18:50Z

@snory I was worried about the negative score but decided to leave it in. It basically means that for that round you lost a lot of nucleus particles.

Anti-Matter by MikDionio 2020-05-10T13:36:37Z

@gameovermexico that's actually a pretty high score! good job! :D

Anti-Matter by MikDionio 2020-05-12T15:16:22Z

@gustavo-christino wow! thanks so much for the in-depth analysis

JAFLL (Just A Frozen Lost Lumberjack) by PaoloGinefra 2020-04-23T15:10:32Z

The art and concept are good, but I think execution could be better. Mostly if the hypothermia timer could just be a little bit longer it would be better. Right now it goes down too fast, especially if the first tree is far away. Also sometimes, the tutorial would appear too far up and I couldn't read the top part.

Last Light by LykaWolfie 2020-04-21T04:00:54Z

Nice one! Something to make it more fun would be a reason to keep the light on for longer. Right now I only need to turn it on to jump which I can do very quickly. Also checkpoints please haha :)))

Keep him alive! by Rens Jan 2020-05-05T14:34:46Z

Fun game! It could, however, use some more things to do, like other enemies trying to kill your enemy so you also need to defend him? The map is pretty big so there's definitely some space for more action! These are just suggestions of course. The game itself is pretty solid. Good job!

The Florist by Crystal Clod 2020-04-21T14:54:25Z

Fun little story. The music fits the theme really well. Usually in games like this I find the choices easy, but in this one I doubted myself throughout some of them. Well done!

Type it alive by Adry 2020-04-20T13:57:58Z

This was really fun! I made it all the way to round 9. Typing games aren't usually my thing, but this put a unique spin on it. May I suggest that one of the buildings heal you. It would be interesting if you had to prioritize between healing your heart and killing the enemies.

Yobuds by noahnewline 2020-04-23T14:57:43Z

Despite its simplicity this is probably one of the best games I played so far! The idea is simple but elegantly executed, and I like the pacing of it as well.

Train by bigassopper 2020-05-03T12:59:28Z

This was a really fun entry! Very fitting with the theme, and nice touch with having the trains be the buttons for the starting menu. I felt that maybe the timer for feeding coal to the train could go a just a little bit slower to have a better chance at doing the other tasks. Other than that it was great!

Rhythm Castle - Platformer/Rhythm Game by GrizzliusMaximus 2020-04-21T03:55:39Z

Fun and unique platformer! Although I'm not a fan of the parts where you have to run from the previous section to the next in order to make the platform. Other than that, the music and graphics are great!

The Dark Cave by Tom Stephenson 2020-04-21T15:07:22Z

The game has a lot of potential especially with the atmosphere! Although right now it does start a bit slow. Also maybe change or tone down the sound effects?

SAVE THE DINOS! by marcusnystrand 2020-05-11T03:53:37Z

The game is simple but really nice! The dinosaur mating was a good mechanic. I found the difficulty nice at first but that sudden difficulty spike kind of felt too unexpected. It felt like I there was no way to survive that. My suggestion instead is to use the trees for difficulty. Like in Space invaders where the houses that acted as shields would eventually get destroyed, you could use a similar thing for trees. There would be more of them to shelter the dinos at first but they get destroyed as meteors hit. Other than that great game!

Save the torch! by eduardogacn 2020-04-28T13:29:38Z

The game has plenty of potential. The art is great and the music is pleasant. I did find it a bit more difficult than necessary. For one, there's a ledge that's sticking out just a bit so if you jump up while next to it you hit the ledge, but other ledges aren't like this. I also find the boss fights after I've killed each enemy off putting since there's no longer any fire to collect (maybe have a few enemies spawn during the boss fight, or remove the timer from the flame pickups). Also, not really sure about this one, but having the flame pickups damage you if you weren't holding the torch felt unnecessary as well.

Catch The Mouse keep it alive by GameOverMexico 2020-05-10T13:23:21Z

Simple, but fun! I especially like that you respawn right away since it keeps the momentum going. Some obstacle placements could be better though :)

Grow Together by johnjoemcbob 2020-04-20T16:14:11Z

The game looks nice, but I'm not really sure what the goal is.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Cursed Labyrinth by marbles 2020-10-06T11:47:51Z

Fun little game! I love how the sound effects go so well with the music. I also love the ending. I just wish you'd put in an instruction that 'Space' was the button to open the shop. I let the game go on for quite a while before I figured out how to open it. Other than that, great job!

Cursed Labyrinth by marbles 2020-10-06T12:46:49Z

@marbles oh I did see that, I just didn't think to press anything when I did.

Cursed Labyrinth by marbles 2020-10-06T12:52:51Z

@marbles it's fine, its a simple fix and I still enjoyed your game :)

Once More, Dear Friends by GibsS 2020-10-06T12:26:32Z

I've seen a lot of implementations of this, but I really like the way this was done. It makes the 'ghost' mechanic useful and I can strategize with it. Jumping could be improved though, as it feels kind of weird right now (but this is just a small nitpick)

Jungle Jam by Daxic 2020-10-06T12:31:17Z

Nice aesthetics. It looks very inspired from Nuclear Throne (that's a good thing :D) One comment I have is to make the projectiles bigger, they are a bit difficult to see at the moment. Other than that, good job!

Infinity - 1 by Potato Imaginator 2020-10-07T13:30:24Z

Really love the level design of this one! At first, I was afraid that the repeating thing wouldn't matter much, but I was wrong and you used it really well!

Sinner's Hotel by ElllaDee 2020-10-07T13:52:34Z

Great job! Normally, I would say that, from a gameplay perspective, you should shorten the distance between each door so players would know sooner if they made the right choice, but since this is supposed to be hell, I found the longer distance to be quite fitting hahaha.

Roll, Turn, Repeat by Akromaly 2020-10-06T12:52:18Z

Really really great game! Nice implementation of mechanics and the theme!

Curse of the Time Stone by SpaceDinosaur12 2020-10-06T11:40:05Z

Really great game! I enjoyed doing the puzzles for this and I hope you decide to continue it. I really only wish you included a tutorial (even a short one in the description) on how to move the boxes. If I hadn't figured out how to do it I would not have gotten past the first level.

GravLoop by AvatarGreggles 2020-10-07T13:42:57Z

I really liked this game, especially the progression and level design. One (very tiny) nitpick I have is I wish there were checkpoints earlier on in the game. I wasn't able to progress very far because it got pretty hard to get higher to the next fuel, but this might just be me being not very good at games :P

Fractulinear by gungnir 2020-10-06T11:18:53Z

Art, visuals, audio and the aesthetics in general were great! The mechanics were interesting but could have been implemented better. You could have some added visuals to help visualize the puzzle shape a bit more. There were also times where I could move to another point that wasn't connected in the current view, making the game feel kind of random.

Hoops Paradise by GuaranteedTrainwreck 2020-10-10T04:05:41Z

Fun and frantic game! I love that when you go to the staff house, it obscures the field. That got a good chuckle out of me. Graphics and atmosphere are pretty good too!

Space Beans by Isac 2020-10-06T15:22:51Z

As others have said, the graphics and effects are really satisfying. Just which there would have been a few more mechanics to give players more to do.

Anomaly by Mat Stevenson 2020-10-10T03:57:50Z

Love the atmosphere in this game! I also love the small UI touches, like resources going red if you'll run out or explored routes being marked as white. They really helped a lot with the experience! I just wish there was more incentive to trying out different routes. Overall, great job!

Legacy Looper by BellringerQuinn 2020-10-07T14:02:02Z

A simple take on this kind of game, but well implemented and still surprisingly tense! I love that it doesn't turn red right away, giving you some time to breathe at the start.

The Bender by superkoekje 2020-10-06T11:29:30Z

The games visuals are very interesting, but I didn't really understand what to do. A tutorial would definitely help to establish some context.

Screw these loops! by TomaszJaworski 2020-10-07T14:15:55Z

The game was really funny! Almost a bit too random, but that's just a small nitpick.

Seasoned Wizards by fufer 2020-10-06T11:25:28Z

The game looks really interesting. I especially love the art style. Its just that even with the instructions at the start, I still didn't really understand the abilities, especially green and yellow. This made me feel lost for quite a bit while I was playing.
