Haha I love the back story!! Looking forward to seeing the process and the end product!

thedashdude 2020-04-20 02:31

The graphics were hard to get used to, but I actually came to enjoy them. Game was great at inducing panic, but I think some music changes and audio cues could take that even farther. The shorter time limits didn't seem possible, but I didn't try them much. Regular was pretty fun, got to level 10.

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 02:38

@thedashdude thanks for the great feedback, I was hoping the graphics would have that effect :) re: the sound yeah definitely I wanted to add in a ticking sound when you're under 20 seconds but ran out of time, I didn't think of music changes. Something to keep on my radar. Cheers!

princesschoochoo 2020-04-20 02:48

MacOS version isn't working for me, sorry. :slight_frown:

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 02:49

@princesschoochoo thank you for telling me! I'll borrow a mac and try exporting natively

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 03:00

@princesschoochoo Just updated the mac version, tested and working if you're still interested in trying it out

princesschoochoo 2020-04-20 03:08

@stolen-biscuit Unfortunately it's still not working for me :/ I get this fairly unhelpful error message: Screenshot 2020-04-20 at 04.06.11.png I'm on MacOS Catalina 10.15.4, so it might be related to the 64bit only thing.

drachmor 2020-04-20 03:12

This is amazing! Visuals and audio are well fleshed-out, and I love the concept. The gameplay was a bit cryptic at first, but there's a surprising complexity to it once you figure things out. I've yet to beat the highest challenge, but I'm getting there(?)!

dnp 2020-04-20 03:13

Like the control scheme. Without an inventory and just having everything laying around just adds to the totally disorganized feel of the dungeon. It definitely feels like your character screwed up. Good work.

thor-lucas 2020-04-20 03:20

Hah! I quite liked it. Btw I played on macOS and it worked just fine. Graphics were very cool! Controls are very unintuitive though — I had to have my left mouse button clicked the whole time in order to look around (why wouldn't you be able to look without pressing LMB?) I love the music - very spooky. Although I'm not quite sure what this has to do with the theme (how are you keeping it alive?) Overall quite impressive. I have yet to try 3D godot — this inspired me to give it a shot. Good job!

psychic-ash 2020-04-20 03:27

The visuals were great. I could have used a little contrast at first for the ceiling and floor but I got used to it. The controls were smooth and easy to use. I really liked it. Really polished . It took me a while to realize how big the space I was working in. You did very well focusing on the primary game loop and polishing to a nice shine. Well done.

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 03:35

Thanks for the feedback everyone! @princesschoochoo I think it may be that it doesn't work for MacOS Catalina :/ I exported on mojave, but I'll have a look and try and see if there's a workaround.

drprettypatty 2020-04-20 04:00

i really like the humor and mood in this, it reminds of of dwarf fortress, dnd, nethack, and infocom games. now that i wrote this out, i think i just got the reference in 'rogue janitor'. lol

the art style is super unique and took some getting used to, but i ended up really liking it. the sound is good. some of the mechanics were a little wonky, like putting the gems in the chests -- it was kind of finicky. but i had fun with the experience, nice work!

i know it's more likely that you made this on linux with windows-style borders, but i want to believe that you make this on windows 95

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 04:29

@drprettypatty Thank you! You definitely figured out all my main inspirations haha. Yeah the chests are a bit finicky. I think its from the collisions when I exported them from blender. I'm definitely programming on Windows 95 ;) (actually just https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95 for XFCE)

jonah 2020-04-20 09:06

sadly, not able to get this game to work on my computer. I do like your art style in the screenshots.

drunkardwolf 2020-04-20 09:13

Nice game, love the art style. Quite funny too. Great entry :)

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 10:07

@jonah what OS are you using? I'll try get that fixed up

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 10:08

@drunkardwolf Thank you :)

jonah 2020-04-20 10:15

@stolen-biscuit I use a Mac. and tried both the macOS version and the .exe with Crossover (wine)

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 10:20

@jonah Catalina by any chance? I have it working on Mojave :/ Can you try the top answer here to see if it works ?https://superuser.com/questions/898124/the-application-someapp-app-can-t-be-opened

jonah 2020-04-20 10:25

@stolen-biscuit sadly that did not work either. I will try it on a mac with Mojave and will check if it works on that.

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 10:35

@jonah Thanks for taking the time :) I really appreciate it. Meanwhile I need to figure out what the hell is going on with Catalina

jonah 2020-04-20 10:40

@stolen-biscuit it works perfectly on Mojave!

This game is very hilarious to play. Especially the graphics are in such a nice style now having finally played it for myself.

The controls are a bit clunky but it really adds to its overall charm of being a goblin janitor. I love the mimic/grue-in-a-box and his face expressions!

a suggestion for the future: getting lost was easy, maybe the goblin could have a paper with a sketch of the map (and current location).

Good job 👍 it is a very charming game

magnusfurcifer 2020-04-20 10:40

This is a very well executed jam game! Stylistically its great, while its a bit jarring right away, its easy to navigate after a few seconds and visually distinguish features, while also being very evocative of console tty ascii style worlds. Very cool.

My primary piece of feedback would be to add some way to change the mouse sensitivity, I use a high DPI and it was very fast.

jonah 2020-04-20 10:51

@stolen-biscuit I found the solution: when you are on macOS Catalina. and it refuses to open the game: Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General and press the **Open anyway** button.

on your own risk and using common sense of course

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 11:00

Thanks for the awesome feedback @jonah and @magnusfurcifer ! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I had a tonne of fun making it so I'm definitely going to keep building on the game and these requests are really good ideas!

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-20 11:06

and thank you for finding a work-around Jonah! I've updated the instructions to include detail about it @princesschoochoo if you're still keen to play, here's how on Catalina :)

princesschoochoo 2020-04-20 11:15

@stolen-biscuit that doesn't work for me, sorry. I've seen that security problem before, and I tried that fix, but this is something different.

princesschoochoo 2020-04-20 11:19

@stolen-biscuit Hmm, I managed to get it working by using "Show Package Contents" to go inside the app folder and then did `chmod +x` on the binary and ran it directly. Then I got the security issue, and did that other fix, and now it seems to be working. I'll give it a go.

Not sure what the proper fix is here, it seems like MacOS is refusing to run the .app for some reason.

princesschoochoo 2020-04-20 11:32

Fun little Viscera Cleanup Detail style game.

Black/White/Red is a nice visual style. It made it a little disorienting, but maybe that's intentional? Physics were a little finnicky, bodies always seeemed to be glitching out, and one time I couldn't put a gem in a chest. (I think it might have clipped through the side of another chest which might be why)

Anyway I had fun playing this  once I finally got it working at least

princesschoochoo 2020-04-20 11:35

Hmm, I just tried the `.app` again after doing the `chmod +x` and now it works. I wonder if this is a change in how MacOS handles permissions?

princesschoochoo 2020-04-20 11:47

Hmm, if I open the zip file with "The Unarchiver" instead of the default, the game works fine. I think this is a problem with MacOS's unzipper not preserving permissions properly. If other people got it to work on Catalina, maybe this problem is just mine.

vex 2020-04-20 12:43

Really cool art style. Space Janitor meets Wizardry? I actually love the old-school dungeon crawling aspect.

kiddy 2020-04-20 23:19

Really fun, I love the art style and the random dungeon each time.

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 00:51

Charming little game, reminds me of Viscera cleanup (which i loved playing)

eldar 2020-04-21 01:09

This game introduces a surprising amount of decisions to make and things to master: orienting yourself in the dungeon, choosing whether to take trash to the bin or vice versa, getting used to the controls, and not getting stuck in doorways when you're dragging a body =)

The humor and the overall feel are pretty Grue-ling. The contrast with the music is on point.

sydream 2020-04-21 12:55

Loved the concept and the variations added by the random generation, the controls were a bit fiddly though but overall quite a bit of fun.

slotha 2020-04-22 02:39

Really cool, I love the idea and story, the sensitivity was way to high for my mouse and I ended up spinning in circles by accident and getting lost!

ponypen 2020-04-22 05:26

I have mac catolina and it was a right pain to get working (Not your fault at all) lol!! The random generation was awesome, the concept was cool, I love the idea and story. I got lost, I think that's just me being rubbish though :') x

ukumeme 2020-04-22 05:28

Dig the aesthetic! I wish you started with less sensitivity though, the speed threw me off the first time I played it

amerigo-gazaway 2020-04-22 07:05

Whoah cool. I like the visuals , reminds of Wolfenstein meets Portal but B&W haha. Great work!

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-22 08:27

The sensitivity is something a few people have mentioned, I think I'll add in a setting to let it be customised but clearly mark it as a post jam build :)

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-22 08:27

Thanks for the feedback guys!

khopa 2020-04-22 16:42

Visually unique. But i have to admit that the lack of real texture combined with the high sensitivity made me a bit dizzy on my first try. But once I got used to it, i was able to play without trouble.

I like the background music, and that thing in the shredding box that eat bodies and junk was really cute somehow. So that you know, I also managed to produce this bug :

bug.png

But, overall, this is a great entry, good job !

darkmax14 2020-04-22 17:16

Really enjoyed your super frantic take on Visceral Cleanup Detail, love the whole refill the chests touch.

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-22 23:29

@khopa thanks for the kind feedback :) yeah thats a known bug when the grue in a box eats multiple body parts, i've got a fix coming through for that. Thanks @darkmax14 glad you enjoyed it!

voidsay 2020-04-23 18:47

Reminded me of "visceral cleanup detail"

But your game isn't annoying. So good job for making cleanup fun  It's great that you managed to make the dungeon procedurally generated. That is really hard to do.

That said the junk was hard to spot and I managed to glitch Grue-in-a-Box thru a wall and one time a junk got eaten but didn't count.

blotosaur 2020-04-24 01:49

It was challenging to always remember where everything was and keep a mental map of the level. Even more so with the color choices haha. Controls were a bit annoying. There is a large amount of precision needed to pick stuff up. Since the game is time based, it lowered the fun a bit for me. Great game!

mika-la-grand 2020-04-27 09:04

Nice that the levels are randomly generated, that keeps it interesting. I found it quite difficult to understand what to do. Mopping up the blood was easy, but filling chests and removing bodies not so much. Eventually I figured out that the bodies need to go into the box with the face, but I couldn't get the diamands into the chests (if that was the goal for the chests). Some sound would also be a good addition.

sypdev 2020-04-27 19:07

Graphics are wild! Never enjoyed getting fired so much :D But I eventually got it!

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-28 03:46

@mika-la-grand hmm thats odd, there are sounds + music. Were you muted by any chance? There's also a how-to play explaining every mechanic on the main screen :)

z4v0 2020-04-28 09:07

fun game :)

ididgame 2020-04-28 09:11

super fun dashing around trying to clean everything up, graphics are stylish but kinda disorienting

hakro 2020-04-30 15:16

This is really a great game. I love the graphics and the pace of it. Bonus points for using Godot. I used it for my game too, but for 2D. Makes me happy to see that it's capable of 3D with very nice results like your game. I found the mouse movement a bit too sensitive though, but that's just me. Overall, great work :) 5 :star:

baconn00 2020-05-08 04:38

The graphic looks like old retro games which kinna cool but also dizzy when you play for a long time. Cool idea, good entry.

fabula-rasa 2020-05-08 08:34

It was pretty fun! Got to level 10 on my second try and just missed the portal by a second! I positively adore the concept of this game. You never think of the little guy that has to clean up after you are done raiding dungeons and looting treasures!

The graphics, or rather the color choices, I didn't like. The stark contrast of pure black and white gets very tiring for the eyes after a while. It would be fine if the environment was colored like that and the interactables had their own colors. But because everything (besides the blood) is the same black and white, you really need to strain your eyes to find things. After a while, that strain adds up.

I liked the animation on the mop and Grue-in-a-Box was just superb!

I encountered a bit of bugs, especially with the chests. Happened to me not once that the gem I was dropping into the chest just disappeared. Not fell on the floor, simply went pufff. I think it mostly happened when my hand was touching the lid of the chest and I let go of the gem. Maybe it wasn't disappearing per se but just got stuck inside a lid? In any case, that was forcing me to run back for more gems.

It also happened to me that there was a sort of additional body on the level. It wasn't included in the "to do" list, yet it was lying right there. Maybe that one was for decoration

stolen-biscuit 2020-05-08 14:35

@fabula-rasa thank you for the extensive feedback! Yep those bugs I'll be fixing up, thinking I might port this to mobile soon and I'm going through and fixing up those issues. Thanks for the feedback on the graphics, I'm thinking of smoothing it out or creating alternate colour schemes for people who may get sick and tired of the black + white.

@baconn00 thanks for the feedback!

prof-suarez 2020-05-08 19:52

Hey man, cool game idea! I was thinking of a similar concept, a cleaning oriented rogue-like. Yours is really cool though.

stolen-biscuit 2020-05-11 00:33

Thanks @prof-suarez

leonardo-fraga 2020-05-11 12:16

It's very interesting, I like that it's procedurally generated, being 3D it's a challenge and I think you did a good job. With time, you could add more things to clean/fix \o/

tony-artz 2020-05-12 06:07

Really fun and innovative game. Love the graphics a lot. The gameplay is also really smooth and fun and I really like the overall concept of the game. Great work.

maskinmask 2020-05-12 08:26

so coool!!i love the graphics!!and the game was fun too!good job man!

mikdionio 2020-05-12 12:55

The game is interesting and unique. There's an element of mastery in knowing how to navigate the maze. Not sure if this was intentional, I'm not a fan of the art style. It made it hard to navigate, and my eyes started to hurt after a short while. It didn't help that the objects were of similar color so they didn't stand out from the rest of the environment.
