I really like the concept of controlling the environment instead of target object itself. I would really like to see this project to be continued.

trigueiro 2020-04-22 02:52

Hi @slam0! Thank you for taking the time to play my "game". Yes, I pretend to continue this project :)

tolmera 2020-04-23 10:09

If you can port this to Mac or HTML then more people will be able to try it (me).

I like the idea, this is very unique and I think it would have been very interesting to play! Shadows are HARD to code, so well done on that :)

trigueiro 2020-04-23 18:46

@tolmera I will try to have both MacOs and HTML soon. Will let you know :)

trigueiro 2020-04-24 10:51

It is now available in MacOS and Linux as well. HTML gave me some problems so I will have to try again some other time. @tolmera

tolmera 2020-04-24 11:50

Thanks that's awesome :) I'll give it a try over the weekend :)

trigueiro 2020-04-25 16:49

Now there is also Browser version :)

abiral 2020-04-25 17:13

game.jpg The concept of this game is really nice. I love it but as you can see in the image the game has some bugs. Overall Its a nice little game. Good Luck for your future projects!

trigueiro 2020-04-25 17:28

@abiral Thank you for checking my 'game'. I do want to conclude this project. At least have something I can actually call a game. It is very much incomplete as it is still even missing conditions (end of game, etc). Thank you for the feedback

framboisedodue 2020-04-25 20:00

I really liked the concept of the game, quite innovative! I hope that you'll continue this project!

muchobestostudio 2020-04-25 20:20

Interesting concept. Moving the environment to move the car is a good idea. I am a bit perplexed that the game is a runner but why not. Don't stop this project, it can be cool.

trigueiro 2020-04-26 01:42

Thank you for playing and the feedback @framboisedodue & @muchobestostudio. @muchobestostudio I wanted to mix stuff up and this combination of runner seemed a nice mix. I am curious, what would you do instead of runner?

duke 2020-04-26 13:06

Hey there! It is pretty obvious, that the game isn't finished or in a state that it will be fun to play more than a couple of seconds. YET, there is a cool game concept burried. I like the idea and as a prototype, it works fairly well. The art style is interesting and the sun controls nice and responsive. The light and shadow effects help to transport the underlying game play mechanics.

Keep it up! I hop you can submit a finished game next time!

trigueiro 2020-04-26 13:54

@duke Thank you for the feedback  I intend to complete this project to something playable. I have some ideas and I actually want to get as much feedback and ideas as possible to help me bring it to conclusion. Next time I participate I will make sure I have more time to complete and also will be more focused on having more playable submission at least instead of getting "stuck" in polishing something that cannot be seen.

linus 2020-04-26 14:28

Very cool concept, I like the idea of having indirect control, haven't really seen any other entries with this kind of concept so I think if you managed to actually make it into a game it would be fun. Good job on submitting something and I hope I will see in future jams seeing this one was your first

trigueiro 2020-04-26 15:35

@linus Thank you for your support :)

haoro 2020-04-26 23:37

Really good concept ! Controlling the sun was an interesting idea and I wonder how far you can go with that ! I hope you plan to make a new version with some more enemies we have to put in shadows to slow them down or something =D

trigueiro 2020-04-27 01:43

@haoro Thank you for playing. I hadn't plan to have enemies forcing the car to go tho shadow. It could be good option. What I had in mind was overcharging the battery: if you keep the car too much in the sun it will overcharge and stop for a couple of seconds. There is planned to have also some other elements that will make the car pass by shadows like small tunnel/bridge

xart2012 2020-04-27 10:34

good concept, but i just set sun above car - and it fast enough to go away: )

trigueiro 2020-04-27 10:52

@xart2012 Thank you for the feedback :) Yeah That is something that I should have actually tried to code first. The idea is that if you keep the sun above as you mentioned it was supposed to overcharge the car and the car would stop for a couple of seconds.

xart2012 2020-04-27 11:01

@trigueiro, good idea, need to implement

gustavo-christino 2020-04-28 00:29

Hahahahahah.

2 - Gráficos, Áudio, Narrativa e Polimento: O modelo do carro ficou bacana e o sol ficou interessante.

gustavo-christino 2020-04-28 00:35

Analysis...

1 - Mechanics, Learning and Flow: I found the mechanics of using the play of shadows and lights to move the character very interesting. Unfortunately the implementation was incomplete (as pointed out in the description itself). Learning to play took a few seconds, but I could see the car lagging behind and the markers on the HUD, so I soon tried to move the sun (said player character (PC)) and managed to get it going again. There is not exactly a game flow, even because there is no winning condition, nor is it an arcade (so far).

2 - Graphics, Audio, Narrative and Polishment: The car model was nice and the sun was interesting. I wish it had a soundtrack and some sound effects, it would have been interesting to see how it would implement this and how it would help with mechanics and immersion. The narrative is direct and simple, with no character development etc.

3 - Culture: I believe that games of this style will emerge more with time (maybe I who do not know the niche, but for me it is new). Electric cars are becoming increasingly important, so there must be a demand for art / culture (including games) for this niche. In other words, this game can be a starting point (not only for electric cars, but also for light and shadows with more direct mechanical implications (in addition to the day-and-night cycle)).

4 - Monetization: Just with the project fully working I could think more about monetization for this game.

trigueiro 2020-04-28 00:58

@gustavo-christino

PT: Muito Obrigado pela sua analise. Bastante profunda! Tenciono, quando tiver mais tempo, concluir este projecto de forma a ter algo jogável.

EN: Thank you for you analysis. Very in-depth. I plan, as soon as I have more time, to finish this project into something playable.

a333 2020-04-28 21:13

Congrats on your first jam! Don't worry, it's okay to post incomplete games - it's even encouraged. After all, the most important things are to have fun, make something, and let people see it.

As for the game, you've had a good idea, and you've managed to get the most important part working - the car is moving and stops when in shadow. Initially I thought I need to keep the sun right over the car, but it didn't move, so then I moved the sun around and realized it reacts to actual shadows - so cool! Now, for the actual gameplay, the level was quite small, and there was not much necessity to move the sun at all - especially since you can move it over the road vertically so shadows dissappear. The distance also didn't matter as I expected - but that was probably due to the lack of time.

I'd recommend trying to allow only left/right movement, and maybe put the sun behind the buildings, which will make positioning matter more. If you play with the camera angles, maybe it might look just like the sunset ride.

Oh, and I liked the car model, too! Nice voxeling.

emperor-eagle 2020-04-29 00:57

Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare! It is a great start, just more content in the diversity of the level is needed (curves and corners, bigger buildings, possibly collapsing structures for surprise shadows). Unity and Magicavoxel are a great combo (we used them for our last two Jams)! The game itself is very innovative (shadows being used as a mechanic rather than a nice graphic is very unique and a pleasure to see)! I enjoyed it while it lasted, but more content is required. Definitely polish the sun's movement. Overall, a cool game which is a start to being a great game, the sun model is spectacular, and all the best for the future!

eduardogacn 2020-04-29 01:55

Congratulations on your first game.

The concept is interesting.

Good job

trigueiro 2020-04-29 02:21

@a333 Thank you very much for the detailed feedback and suggestions. Will take this into consideration :)

@emperor-eagle Thank you for the nice feedback. I really appreciate some insight from more experienced people

@eduardogacn Thank you for trying and rating my submission :)

black-flag 2020-04-29 14:03

Really good concept and I really liked the voxel graphics! Overall, this is a really innovative game, never seen a mechanic where you are the sun and you sort of control the enemies positions (the shadows)!

artemftw 2020-04-29 19:32

Interesting idea. I would love to play the finished version if you're planning to keep working on it!

trigueiro 2020-04-29 19:37

@black-flag Thank you for playing my "game" @artemftw Thank you for testing and for the support. I do plan to keep on working on it :)

convg 2020-04-29 19:46

I love this concept. Will be really cool when you continue it into post LD. The first thing to do is probably generate the levels procedurally, and then work on sound and stuff. Overall, the idea is good and would play very well with some more work. Glad to see you're continuing it :)

trigueiro 2020-04-29 20:14

@convg Thank you for playing and for the support :)

marvalgames 2020-04-30 01:21

Novel idea and from what I gather you show you have some skills as a programmer and designer. The voxel graphics look good. Some 3d is nice and like what you are doing with lighting and shadows. Some of the hardest things to get right. Keep going.

trigueiro 2020-04-30 02:33

@marvalgames Thank you for your supporting words. I really appreciate it :)

lazzydev72 2020-04-30 10:22

 The Ending. Great idea it is Innovative. Beautiful 3D Models. I really like those Cars. Well Done. Keep It UP. :v:

trigueiro 2020-04-30 10:35

@lazzydev72 Thank you :)

kate90 2020-04-30 15:18

Hi, this is nice little game, I can see its not completed. From what I saw, there is great art and concept. Congrats!

abdurrahman-khallouf 2020-04-30 19:53

this is a cool concept . at first I thought the sun is used to punch the enemies away.

but it is even cooler. well. Id like to see it turns into something :)

trigueiro 2020-04-30 21:37

@abdurrahman-khallouf Thank you very much :)

jessefreeman 2020-05-03 20:10

Interesting concept. Curious to see what it would become with some extra time and polish? Great try!

trigueiro 2020-05-04 10:41

@jessefreeman Thank youf playing and for your feedback :)

splitpainter 2020-05-06 13:07

I think you could have submitted it to the Compo, regardless :) There are many other games smaller than yours that were submitted.

elio 2020-05-06 16:07

keepig apart if the game is complete or not, the idea was pretty unique and it would be very great to see a more finished an polished project. Great portotype, keep the hard work :D

trigueiro 2020-05-06 23:39

@splitpainter Thank you for playing :) I could not do that. In my opinion, if it is this unfinished it should not be in any other category. Maybe if it was unfinished but almost complete, then I would not feel bad in posting in Compo or Jam.

@elio Thank you for trying my game and the support. I do intend to keep working on this project :D

gameovermexico 2020-05-11 17:58

back to the future!!! its fun when the car fly in the desert!!

willypa 2020-05-11 17:58

Felt a bit unfinished. But a good idea was put behind. Good job!

trigueiro 2020-05-11 20:40

@gameovermexico Thank you for playing the "game" @willypa Thank you for playing. It is normal to feel unfinished given that it is unfinished

mikdionio 2020-05-12 04:15

I understand that its unfinished but the concept behind it was really interesting! You should definitely continue working on this :D

trigueiro 2020-05-12 13:49

@mikdionio Thank you for playing and the feedback. I plan to finish it when I get more time :)
