LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Griffin Card by uheartbeast 2016-12-15T20:20:00

This Game is awesome! I wish I had kids so they could use it to learn basic Math! Capital A Awesome!

Dunno if this was fixed or not, but the game stops you using overpower cards on yourself and taking the damage. Or if that was an update.

LD37 — One room

'Sukitup' (Robot Vacuum Simulator 2016) by TolMera 2016-12-13T13:31:00

Hey Thanks all who have played it so far! :) It's really awesome reading the feedback.

Sadly that passing through the walls occasionally is a really annoying bug! and slow rotation on some computers is really annoying too. Sadly with work I won't have time to make things better, but next Ludum Dare for sure! :) (I'll see about sticking this on GitHub and open-sourcing it. Maybe even put up a youtube walk through of the code.)

@automatronvx yea, the original idea was to make a breakout type game, without the Paddle, but turned into this, which was pretty awesome. It's all about bounding off the walls and picking the angle that's going to work for you :) Which I thought was awesome fun.

@srakowski I really did like the "control the environment , not the player" theme, so mixed it in here. :)

'Sukitup' (Robot Vacuum Simulator 2016) by TolMera 2016-12-13T14:25:00

Sorry just noticed the Src was broken. here it is! My bad :(

Turn My Room by mikesean45 2016-12-12T23:31:00

Not bad, quite challenging.

1 Room and 48 Hours by meg 2016-12-12T21:53:00

That was Awesome!

I like the ??? Which I kinda think is going for a toilet break! (in a bucket?) Doing a game jam, you don't go till you REALLY have to go. hahaha :)

Fantastic!

I had the same idea, but doubt I would have done it justice, you really rocked this though!

Rougue room by littleball 2016-12-12T02:37:00

I liked this Game, fully would spend an hour or two playing this.

General Room by jeroenwimmers 2016-12-13T22:48:00

This was really cool!

Waiting Room - The Game by NinjaPatBeck 2016-12-12T22:03:00

Quite funny!

Is exactly what it says on the box :)

The time delayed chat with the receptionist had me loitering around the desk desperate to see what the next line of dialog was! :)

Fun for a couple of minutes

Oner-OOM by srakowski 2016-12-12T21:58:00

Game crashes on launch for me :-/

The Legend of ROOMBA by limmmmm 2016-12-13T19:08:00

Pretty cool! :)

I also did a Roomba inspired Game :) but your game has way better graphics and sound :)

I enjoyed this!

Paper Cutter by mdzimmer 2016-12-12T22:26:00

I beat the game in maybe two minutes?

Pretty cool, sound's got a bit annoying, needed a few different sounds in there.

Didn't see if there was a way to lose, or a way to win until I had pretty much beat everything.

The idea was cool, and the art was awesome! the character looks like he is actually a folded up piece of paper.

SANTA'S ONE ROOM by cjke.7777 2016-12-12T21:35:00

Audio really suited the game, really nice.

When I landed my first bunch of elves in the Workshop, and saw the explosion of Red, Green and White I thought I had killed my elves :)

Overall this is a really cool game! excellent entertainment.

RoomLops Cleaning by Dejvo 2016-12-13T19:14:00

Pretty cool!

I really like that you can go under furniture and things.

Event Horizon by ProgrammerSteve 2016-12-15T00:21:00

Pretty cool, quite challenging.

Liked the multiple characters and animations.

Felt a little too easy to brush against a spike and die. Might have been more fun with 'health'

Rworld by blackbird806 2016-12-12T21:43:00

Interesting, couldn't get very far but it was cool.

Would have been nice if Gravity was more 'down' but definitely a playable game :)

Arena 3000 by automatonvx 2016-12-12T22:08:00

Was fun. It was over a bit too quickly, I played through about five rounds before just being completely over run, which felt like only 30 seconds.

Otherwise the idea was fun, the music was pretty good too.

Kitchen Wizard Pinball by quill18 2016-12-12T23:23:00

Overall, enjoyable and amazing work for 48 hours.

The Audio is pretty awesome overall, Really like the chime when you hit the salt.

The Murder Room by Sawtan 2016-12-12T22:16:00

That Shotgun Dude!!!

102 Kills
That was pretty Awesome!

There does not appear to be a shop? Wish there was some way to use the money I was making.

Very challenging and quite a lot of fun.

Zomploder by TechXSoftware 2016-12-15T19:49:00

I kinda wished there was something new in this, but it really is just fighting a swarm.

It's a perfectly playable game, very fast, very challenging, over all it's a good game for 48 hours.

LD38 — A Small World

Planet Heist by conk 2017-05-02T21:36:42Z

Pretty good, I can see this being an app-store game really easily! go for it!! dooo it! :)

Plutiny by peringo 2017-05-02T22:01:56Z

Very cool!!! one of the best I've found, and I'll admit, I have a soft spot for Pluto :P but this was awesome even without Pluto.

Pluto is a Planet by TolMera 2017-04-30T05:08:37Z

Glad you enjoyed :) and yea that bug :-/ I want to fix it, but don't feel like it's with the rules. :(

Pluto drifting off screen :) I did try to fix that, but think I broke it again later haha :) oh well at least it will +1 to the humor I hope :) Thank you and I'm so glad you enjoyed playing the game!

Pluto is a Planet by TolMera 2017-05-02T21:08:15Z

Thanks :) I made hitting a ship, or hitting the planet the only way that bullets are destroyed, I kinda hope it catches a few people off guard, something new and exciting :) (or terrible and exhilarating either is good) But either way, hopefully someone find it fun to play with a new tactic. Glad you didn't hit the bug as above.

Pluto is a Planet by TolMera 2017-05-06T15:01:23Z

Hah :) If I had of had the time and skill, I would have animated a face into the game that read you the story, it would have been a non (tm)/(c) face like that :)

Beeees by catmoo 2017-04-24T15:32:16Z

Nice, I like how the wind affects what direction and how far you can go before getting tired. I never thought about what a difference this must make to Bee's, or really anything that can fly.

Hohmann Havoc by Richard Pittman 2017-04-24T02:23:20Z

This is really cool! I tried to code Gravity and Orbit in my game, but it's nowhere near as nice as yours.

A Small Earth by Skywilly 2017-05-02T21:31:24Z

Ahh... Feels like I got trolled. Was not even 30 seconds, before I got vomited at.

Pollux by fatPenguin 2017-05-02T21:44:45Z

Very cool! one of the few games I've played multiple times!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Horrible Politics by Rocketship 2017-08-06T18:53:00Z

Hey @rocketship - I spotted your game on Friday, and thought 'yea why not', and I'm glad I did! This was awesome :) I really enjoyed trying to be a nice guy, which you didn't make easy :P [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=10243), you might enjoy watching :)

Power Plant Simulator. by BroRawr 2017-08-06T18:27:02Z

Hey @brorawr, @granlord, and @bejk - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=4912), The music was pretty cool! The visuals were great, and the pressure was way high! :) overall it was a fun play-through. I realized almost straight away that the game would let you just pump the gray and water, and only hit the fuel when it was getting low. So the challenge was a little low, it made it kinda button mashy, but I think it's close to that 'complicated' fun, where if you implemented a 'real' triangle between water, gray and fuel, you could make the player try to run closer to the balance or edge. And it would be more challenging/fun. That being said, you might already have the triangle, in which case, just a little more feedback from the game (the graph was cool) :)

Power Plant Simulator. by BroRawr 2017-08-06T20:25:57Z

@BroRawr, Oh, I thought you just listened for when he yawned :) lol. I thought that was nice mechanic :P but now I know haha :)

And yea, my audio was terrible, never done this before. So much to learn :)

Nuclear Night by aaranos 2017-08-06T18:32:40Z

Hey @aaranos @crhis, @e-jp - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=6035), It was fun, a little challenging, unfortunately I hit the box bug a couple of times (I was playing the fixed version, so.. yea..) Overall it seemed like an interesting game and I'll probably give it another go when I'm having a relax for myself, and see if I can find the story about why the planet is going to explode.

In Orange Light by mwcz 2017-07-31T20:27:05Z

Pretty cool, I really like the idea!

Running the Marathon by gamepopper 2017-08-06T18:40:49Z

Hey @gamepopper - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=7760), You were there, so you already know about it :) - But anyway, it's there if you want to watch. I'm still working on winning it :)

LOW BATT by simonhutchinson 2017-07-31T20:55:00Z

Pretty cool overall, I really like the ending sound effect

Hallway Creep by slunkey 2017-07-31T19:31:00Z

Not bad, I like how the creeps feel like they are actually moving down a hallway getting bigger, and the light which is really nice and round when it's on the edge of the screen, is really diffuse as it gets to the back of the tunnel! well done :)

Would be nice to be able to set of use a different set of keys, I use a UK layout keyboard, but my windows is US layout, so looking for the / was difficult (sounds silly but I always struggle with which slash is which)

XenoSiphon by gamezero 2017-08-06T18:15:57Z

Hey @gamezero, and @mildmunitions - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=4367), If you're interested in watching how it went, unfortunately I got a bit lost, and I'm not great with suspense/horror. I think I had some issues with the ability to fight the huggers off, I don't use/own a gamepad, so the keymap might have been designed for that?...

Anyway, it was a nice solid game.

Plasma Arena by red-fan-games 2017-08-06T18:02:08Z

Hey @red-fan-games Thanks for the game :) was a lot of fun to play, you put it on [my list](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and I streamed a play of it on Friday. If you want to watch, though I don't strafe jump :) I had a lot of fun [YouTube](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=180)

Space Dog by Thygrrr 2017-08-06T18:05:01Z

Hey @thygrrr, I know you didn't actually [put a link in to your](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play) game :) but since you were in the list :) I thought, 'why not', so If you're interested in watching my play-thorough [I did a stream, and here's where I played your game](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=2218) --- Oh I just read the comment above, Gamepopper was in my stream :) He witnessed my total failure to actually stream the gameplay the first time round :P (shhhh, noone knows I failed...)

Space Dog by Thygrrr 2017-08-06T20:19:47Z

Yea I had uploaded the video and went to bed lol :) thought I had better go tell people I played :) It's so much fun seeing someone play your game (I can't help but laugh when they think you did something really smart, but you didn't even think of it).

Love the Camera control, so smooth and just right for the game. Your algorithm is awesome!

Despot 3900 by alxm 2017-08-06T18:50:44Z

Hey @alxm - I was setting up to stream a few games when I spotted your game on Friday, now this is my kind of game :), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=9547) (Sorry no sound :( I kinda messed up) but you can get to see how I played if you're interested, I really enjoyed it! It was a bit easy to find a balance by winning wars and paying nobles, but that being said, I didn't try actually being a despot and letting my people revolt! which maybe I will the next time I play it (And I think there will be a next time, I really enjoyed it)

Fast Refuel by harusame 2017-08-06T18:38:39Z

Hey @harusame - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=7423), I like the idea, and I really looked forward to playing it, It's pretty hard, so the balance feels off, or just ramps up too fast, but I'm sure a bit of practice and I would also get good at it. Really nice idea, and feels like something that would be awesome multiplayer.

Star Hopper: Crank by deathray 2017-08-03T00:19:20Z

Very cool! I like it already. I'll give it a good play on Friday and see if I can get a nice ship together :)

Star Hopper: Crank by deathray 2017-08-03T22:12:38Z

Same as most of the above, there was a learning curve, and I don't really get what's up with the power-flow and the numbers, but that being said; this is a great game! Very impressive the amount of content and art (not an artist myself), I like the mechanics! :)

Game seemed to slow down as I built more parts, or just as time passed (noticeable within 5 minutes of play).

But that didn't stop me from having this open all evening, and I'm only stopping now because I have work in the morning :)

End of Time by TolMera 2017-08-06T20:44:54Z

Aww It's so COOL reading your feedback :)

I think if I was to do anything more with this, I would link it to Twitter (never got that far), and have it so the players could post questions that would appear in the left side! make it a bit more interesting. (Would have to actively vet the questions though :-/)

@widdershinscrustacean (wow what a name) I'm happy to find someone else who likes the book! And, are you sure Googles not Sentient? ;)

@badly-drawn-rod (lol, nice name). I think that overloaded office job was the feeling I was going for, you're meant to be answering all of humanities questions :) so yea :) Awesome!

@Devastus Yea, feedback could be better.. research I think I left fairly mysterious. If you read the short story, you will see the theme behind the game, and maybe you'll see more of the research you should do, But otherwise I think it's all about trial and error. (There is a way to win - I'll post it up after the judging)

@alejandrodlsp - Awesome :) that's pretty good going, half an hour is a fair bit of time.

@pklaschka - Yea, that button jumping away and clicking another, that was annoying, I think CSS animations would have been good - but I'm a pretty naff designer. It's something for me to work on :) Otherwise I'm glad you liked it :)

@deathray - You Dictator! What did you do to your poor people? haha :) I hope you found the message funny :) It happens when you make them unhappy, and not answering their questions, it makes them unhappy :P :)

@Thygrrr - Go Rockstar! :)

@red-fan-games - There is a lot of text :) I kinda ran out of ideas for things humanity could ask the machine, not a creative writer myself :) Glad it got a couple of plays though :)

@piscythe - Dude You are Awesome! I'm so glad you dived in there and had a look behind the curtain! You'll have seen there is an ending for "Kill all humans" :) I love that you found more than just the death by entropy ending :) - Regarding research, I think you have 3~5 researches you can get wrong, but some bugs in there can trip stuff out (people telling you to research something you have already researched.) Thank you SO much for playing :) I'm stunned someone played it so many times :)

@ - Everyone Else :) - Thank you for playing as well! You're all awesome and I feel really overwhelmed! Thank you!

Remote by oab 2017-08-06T18:18:19Z

Hey @oab - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=4788), The game was a bit shorter than I expected, but it was fun. I thought about it a while after playing it and realized the the style of animation was actually really hard to pull off, and that you had done an excellent job! Thank you for the game. :) I learned something by playing it and appreciate it a lot.

Energia by aemiliu5 2017-08-06T18:35:13Z

Hey @aemiliu5, @thesheepster - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=6523), I really liked the name and idea of the game. I'm not a fan of the logo though, it looks like someone giving the finger, and that's not a great first impression (not great at all).

Otherwise though, I liked the game, it needs a bit more feedback, and a few hover prompts, but I liked the idea, trying to take over the city :)

Potential Energy by Carsen D. 2017-08-01T18:24:29Z

Wooooowwwww!!! Dude I've never been in such suspense when looking at blocks! The story was great! The guy at the start who's scared of the flickering light! the child talking to it's daddy. So many little victories as well, from the first climb to flip the switch for the elevator! To that gut drop feeling when the floor falls away from you! wooooww :)

High points for graphics as well, you tied it all together so well, the change in tempo when you reach the reactor door, everything! it's brilliant.

I thought when I reached the end of the shaft and heard the conversation, "oh well I must be able to drop in behind the reactor door, just a different way in" Ended up having to do the climb again :) But it was so worth it.

I liked the idea, I liked the graphics and monsters, wish I could have gotten further, but just couldn't get the rhythm.. sorry.

Battery Low by Freedom Is Slavery 2017-08-06T18:45:14Z

Hey @freedom-is-slavery - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=8632), I'm not personally a fan of this kind of game, but I can see and appreciate the challenge. You had some good graphics, Same chargers but in different colours and so forth, which kinda through me for a bit, but added to the complexity and was pretty nice when I thought about it later. I couldn't see if there was a pattern to the phones coming in, or if they were just being randomly generated? If they were planned, it would have been nice to get some in-game feedback about your progress. :) but overall it was a solid game.

Lost in the Dark by Schu 2017-08-06T18:11:46Z

Hey @schu - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=4097), Thought you might like to see. It was a bit though to play because it's got a lot of trial and error running, but I did like the mechanic, I think it had a lot going for it, and if you have the patience, it's a good game. Pretty solid :)

Hey @alejandrodlsp - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=11292), Was pretty good, I liked the audio, I really think it suits the game and adds to the suspense. The mechanics were pretty good, overall I enjoyed it :)

Night Driver by nbitsstudio 2017-08-06T18:29:33Z

Hey @nbitsstudio - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=5310), I'm not a very good driver, but I liked the mechanics, A little more feedback (maybe audio?) when you hit the breaks, would be cool, but otherwise it's nice! Very nicely done in the 48 hours, I was really impressed to see the car get reset when it ended up on its roof :) And the jumps were a really nice touch!

Maze Charger by Veak 2017-08-06T19:03:09Z

Hey @veak - [you put your game on my list to play](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/end-of-time/whos-not-had-any-love-link-your-game-for-me-to-play), and [I streamed the play-through on Friday](https://youtu.be/-DEvWdMWCKk?t=11644), I managed to find the teleport which was nice. Overall I think your game really suited the theme, and was well put together, I don't know if there were any traps or anything else 'inside' the maze (other than the inanimate snakes, but I think seeing other things running around would have made it so much scarier :)

Pretty good game!

SCRAMBLED by aurel 2017-12-08T18:08:39Z

Was Interesting. The Graphics are nice, the sounds for the person walking and jumping were there. Movement was a bit fast but manageable. Didn't get any depth feedback from the environment so using the polearm was a bit random.

Didn't actually interact with anything? Found the alter and though "Let me check the controls" Then 4 kids beat me up :P

You cry but no one responds by Phoenix849 2017-12-08T18:25:22Z

Feels like you're playing the monster. Not a nice feeling. Game wise, this has a reasonably good and responsive interface. Theres obviously some story that's going on, not sure how deep you need to dive into this before the story becomes apparent.

It's interesting mechanically.

Derelict by programmersteve 2017-12-08T17:46:36Z

Gave it a try, it animated smoothly though I kept getting stuck on the edges of walls, and when trying to jump uphill I would end up leaping backwards?

Seems like it would be an interesting puzzel/explore game with a little more development.

LORD BASKETBALL by designernap 2017-12-08T19:26:02Z

Pretty good game. I like how you tied it in with the theme! :)

Rescue the Morons by gamezero 2017-12-07T16:55:20Z

I got 32 across at my best. I liked the little wave animation you put in when the guys actually get to their ship!

think this could have been more interesting if it was put in a 'real' setting, like a kids room with boxes and toys to navigate around, instead of being esoteric environment. But that being said, it was still good.

The Swinging platform was an excellent trap! nicely done.

Overall, a reasonably good game and something I would recomend others try.

Dwarf Bowl XXXX by beardywombat 2017-12-08T17:32:28Z

Not a bad little game, took a few minutes to figure out the mechanics, I ended up sitting in one corner waiting for the goblins to pile up, then knocking a huge number off the map with one swing. (That was fun :))

Radioactive Cavemen by deathray 2017-12-07T16:39:04Z

Hey @deathray I played your LD 39 game (Star Hopper Crank), and was really looking forward to seeing what you managed to make for LD40. The games got an interesting feel, though I think it appeals more to peoples aesthetics than actually being mechanics driven. It's an interesting game, that might have been better with polish, but I stuggled to find the fun. I dug a deep hole, dropped a bunch of fires down, then focused on the move command to send mutants to the surface, while everyone else just milled around. Will look forward to your next LD game.

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-07T18:38:13Z

Yea the executable is large. I think Game maker has already compressed most of the audio which accounts for... well all of the size really (there's a lot of audio in there, probably close to an half hour at high quality). So I've tried compressing the games exec, and the source, but the difference was in the 2~3MB range.

@markopolodev anything speciffic you think I should write into the game page to give a better explanation? Obviously an outside pair of eyes can see what I as the developer cant see.

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-07T19:59:36Z

@markopolodev - sounds like a youtube is in order :) Can't rewrite the game now since that would be outside the spirit of the jam/compo. But maybe next time. Thanks for the recomendations

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-07T20:06:37Z

For @gassain @azuredraco I've patched the Escape bug, can't believe I misnamed a variable :-/ I also fixed another bug that crashed the game when you killed a mob who's spawner you had also killed.... that one sucked.

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-07T21:17:59Z

Yea Game Maker is not a good platform to build on for Ludum Dare. They lock you out of deploying for Web Browsers unless you pay in blood. Well, money, but they might take blood.

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-08T22:24:28Z

Sounds like the Art and Music are clearly this teams strong suit :) Thanks :)

And I've patched the game so you can hit "enter" to restart if you die. (see patch notes)

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-09T20:44:54Z

So Juicy that is sticks ;) There's screen shake on Monster Levels 8 and 10, thought they were going to be an Ogre and a Dragon. I didn't have the time to do the Art :) Thanks for the feedback! :) (Kaitila)

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-10T16:51:26Z

@nax_89 try redownloading the game? Or maybe you're going too close to the spawners, they attack from a distance (I didn't have time to put the animation in)

Dwarven Dungeon Defense by TolMera 2017-12-12T15:24:56Z

@deathray - sorry but not with the Game Maker License that I have, if anyone else (with the appropriate license on Game Maker) can make this a Web Version for me??? Anyone? That would be "A" for Awesome!

COINS by oab 2017-12-07T16:42:45Z

Interesting, difficulty ramps up very quickly. The first sound was pretty loud, so maybe a background track to help people set their sound level would be nice. Otherwise, a fine litle game! well done

Work, please! by josemwarrior 2017-12-07T16:00:07Z

Is what you had playable? If so this looks interesting and I would happily give it a try.

Die, Settlers by Daedolon 2017-12-07T16:04:52Z

Looks interesting and would have given it a try if you had download links.

As a point of interest and for the sake of sharing knowledge, I wrote something that had a lot of trees and repeating sprites a while ago. I found if I implemented some perlin noise (not too hard to find in any language) And adjusted the green/brown of my trees using the noise, I get a less repetitive effect. I also randomly nerfed the height/width of the trees within a margin just randomly which really broke off the repitition. Take a look at my profile header on twitter @TolMera to see what I mean

Total Pollination by homeworld 2017-12-09T18:19:21Z

Good enough for me to play it a couple of times, I like that you have the Damage Triangle, nicely animated mobs. Good tie in to the theme. Overall quite well done :)

Snail: Diamond Hunter 2000 by ruba 2017-12-07T17:15:12Z

Reasonably good game. I like the audio, it suits the environment very well. And the Art was nicely done.

The mechanic that had you jump from one surface to another, or start going up/down walls was a bit slugish (lol). Feel like if that had been more polished (which is not easy and I appreciate that) then this woul have been a very playable game.

Overall, it's a nice entry and worth trying out! :) well done.

Space Miner Niner by jchaplin 2017-12-07T17:07:19Z

Gave it a try, it's nice little game. The physics are nice, very ice skate feeling. Sadly I'm not a good shot with the ship, it turns a little fast for me to be able to aim long shots, so feels like I had to skirt clost to everything to get a shot off at it.

I died a couple of times when passing over the planet, or just randomly in space. Think maybe asteroids spawned right on top of me, or were hidden behind the planet.

I liked the teleport zones, though I didn't understand them very well.

Your Art was very nice, and I would certainly be interested in what you make in the future.

Cube Wars (My First Game) by LemonCorp 2017-12-08T17:58:06Z

It's a nicely done little game. Smooth Animation, turrets that all act independently. 'real' bullets that seem to have a small particle effect. Pretty good over all. Though, oh for the love of Mercy that music! haha :) Very nice for a first LD game, congrats

Didgeribug in da place ! by Hippunk 2017-12-07T18:08:00Z

Drill Run by Lord Matter 2017-12-08T18:17:11Z

This was a really nice game! Smooth, good sound effects (I liked how the pitch between gems). Difficulty jumped a bit too quickly, I would have liked to have been able to play for longer and dodge more.

Nice, very nice!

My Greedy Dog Steve by Honest Dan 2017-12-09T18:43:59Z

Pretty cool. I like the Alpha Bear! Red Glowing Eyes! :)

Space Crash by nikchernyakov 2017-12-07T18:16:00Z

Nice array of audio effects Good mechanic where the more ships you collect against your shield, the more they drag your speed and manuverability down. Also increases your surface area, making it easy to collect more against you. Eventually they pushed me off the back of the screen.

Interesting game, I like the take on the Theme. Feels like something that would have done well from some procedural generation of the map, and a 'full screen' where I could have played with more area.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. Well done! :)

Phool by ciaccodavide 2017-12-09T20:28:54Z

Pretty cool! enjoyed it :) was it just me or did the music get faster?

Supernova by Chicken 2017-12-08T17:52:41Z

Pretty good little game, gave it a few plays, couldn't get much over about 7 'saves' (even though we all died?)

Fun and difficult. Very well done!

Feature Creep by Garur 2017-12-07T17:28:04Z

It was fun to a point. Kinda feels like something I would point someone to when they say 'Hey you can program, could you do X' Then have them play this so they know, Oh.. health isn't just built in. And oh, deaths not built in either!

Overall, I like the game :) I would love to see it expanded on!

Squire by mambojambo 2017-12-09T17:57:22Z

Nice enough. I think upping the players speed a little would make it more fun, because keeping the donkey close slows you down anyway. Pretty good over all.

The Graphics are nice, controls are smooth. I got Donkey stuck behind a tree once, but figured out how to coax him back.

Finally done :D by Tomas.2D 2017-12-09T16:53:13Z

I installed this game, but it want's odd network access tools. And the "Game Maker" logo it shows you when it starts, well... it's not from any recent version of Game Maker. This 'feels' very... uncomfortable to install. I can't say anything definitive, but it makes me uncomfortable

Defense of the Cacatua Fountain by reyesjuanma 2017-12-08T17:40:31Z

I tried the game, but the "j" key didn't appear to do anything. Seemed like a nice idea for a game

You should also package your game into 1 zip file, it was difficult to get running because I had to download the two files, which in the process ended up getting nested. More difficult than it should have been.

The wreck of the Pulstar-VIII by Oceanosaurus 2017-12-07T17:58:28Z

That typing sound!!! That Damn typing sound. I was like Garr! click. And I missed a piece of the dialogue! more Garrarrarr... Pressed the "back button" and was like "Wow, that worked, I wen't 'back' from the game, back into the dialogue!" If that was not a 'feature' you built in, then it's a damn good bug! :)

Got pretty close to the goal, I was left with the Engineer and the cook, kinda felt like they both deserved to live more than me as Capitain.

Type Them Down by Angelonias 2017-12-07T18:33:32Z

Even though I'm a professional programmer, spend at minimum 8 hours a day typing, and have been at a computer daily for most of my life. I still struggle with these games! they are fun :) they are challenging.

I don't really get the tie in to the theme. I would get it if hitting a key didn't kill that letter on all the zombies. so you had to be faster, get faster. but otherwise the link is a bit weak sorry to say.

Overall, a nice entry for the LD40 :) nicely done!

Grim Depths by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2019-05-04T05:18:56Z

Heat game, I really like that the weapon changes colour with the room, though It would be cool if the weapon remained the colour of the room you bought it in, just so you knew how long it had been since it was upgraded.

Psukhe-survival by TolMera 2019-04-30T22:48:46Z

@764hotshot

New instructions have been added to the description above and here for your refference

How to play the game. Go to the Github page Fork my repo Go to where you want to download the game to in oyur file system `git clone https://github.com/${{Yous Username Here}}/psukhe-survival.git` Inside the newly created "psukhe-survival" folder, you have two subfolders: "server" and "client" If you're just wanting to play, head into the "client" folder.

You're going to need nodejs, npm, typescript to launch/play the game. If you don't have node, head to https://nodejs.org/en/download/ or use your favourite version management software to download nodejs. Node comes bundles with "NPM" (Node Package Management) - so in a terminal type "npm install -g tsc" which will install typescript on your machine. I recommend "npm install -g tsc-watch" and "npm install -g nodemon" which are both handly little tools for auto-compiling your code and auto-running your code when you make changes, so there's no manual compile and run delays.

in a terminal navigate into the client folder and run "tsc" which will run typescript's compiler. cd build ^^^ Will move you into the build directory that tsc created. node index.js ^^^ Will run the game

You're not going to see too much for 30 seconds, just a spawn message and waiting. Once your character gets hungry or thirsty, they are going to start eploring looking for food/water. Playing the game means looking inside the "src" folder, and scripting your AI to be better at survival/hunting/running than other people's AI's.

Cheatsheet /src/controller/mind contains the current 'what to do when X happens' code, which is pretty simple. /src/controller/eye || ear || nose - these are empty templates linked to eye, ear and nose events. You'll use these as you start to evolve. /src/controller/intent - This contains all of the actions that you can perform. From moving, eating and drinking to evolving your creature. Expand the client as much as you like, feel free to develop in other languages or in other ways. The only caveat being that you need to be able to communicate with the server, so check out socket.io which the server is using for network comms.

Good luck, and happy hunting

Psukhe-survival by TolMera 2019-05-02T07:06:38Z

@ariel-meylan

Hi Ariel, I'm glad you like the idea, and thanks for the comment, it made me see that the instructions had not formatted themselves very well.

Hopefully you can still enjoy the game, and hopefully the instructions are a bit more surmountable once they have been better formatted. I'm likely also going to do a simple youtube video at some point, showing some coding and writing a simple AI to live a little longer (until someone can hunt it down) . So maybe if nothing else you might enjoy when I do that.

Psukhe-survival by TolMera 2019-05-02T22:19:05Z

@edshotmachine

Yes, that's a non-error error on typescripts behalf. What it means is that typescript can't find the definitions for node, so it does not know what functions and variables etc pre-exist in node.

You should be able to make this error go away by running

npm install @types/node --save

In the same folder that you ran tsc.

**You're one step away from being able to run the game**

All you need to do now is cd into the build folder and run node index to start a character running around.

When you have someone running around, you can go to http://ec2-52-56-250-10.eu-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/ and look for the black dot on the map - thats your character.

I really hope you have fun doing a little coding and making an awesome character who can actually survive.

Reckoning day by Raphael Rosa 2019-05-02T07:33:26Z

Wow you made this with a huge team, and it looks awesome! Can you compile it for any other platform? I would really like to try it out, but don't have a windows machine.

Fokusiro by oakus 2019-05-02T07:26:52Z

Thats a pretty cool game, I like how the speed seemed to get a bit higher as the day gets longer? And at first I thought it was only a 1 button game because of how everything came form one side on the first couple of days, but then the third day it changed, so I was pretty happy with that :)

I like the animation and the sounds, they are really well done. The sound of typing is a nice touch, and the "Hooy Yo".

It's not something that I could lose an hour to, but it's a really good result for the jam, and seems well polished.

Improvements, I would speed up the kick a little, so if I missed on the first kick I might get a second kick in before losing that item.

The transitions were not to bad on my machine, but I did vanish at one point when I walked off the screen.

Subject 11 by Evergreen Games 2019-10-16T09:53:32Z

@evergreen-games it's a solid entry! you should really play a few more games and get your ranked a little more. I think you'll get a really good score if you get a little more exposure.

I struggled to play on my QWERTY, but enjoyed it as far as I got.

Styx by TolMera 2019-10-10T10:57:56Z

Thank you.

Styx by TolMera 2019-10-16T09:18:58Z

@velvetlobster Thanks for the feedback :) I'm going to have to go and read more about Proteus. When I knocked the game together I didn't have (I still don't have) a stylus for my tablet, so the art style arose by my fat finger painting (finger painting over A4 sketches that I scanned into my PC). It's really blown me away to see how people like it, and especially in your comment :) thank you.

Styx by TolMera 2019-10-16T09:20:29Z

@simon-rahnasto Are you sure you played my game? Haha :) It almost sounds like you player my "Dwarven Dungeon Defense" from a previous LD. If you missed playing this game, please give it a shot :) I think you'll love it :)

Styx by TolMera 2019-10-17T04:40:46Z

@simon-rahnasto Thank you :) I'm glad you also enjoyed me game haha :)

That 3D effect you mention, I didn't expect it at the time either, I was wanting to implement parallax originally, but the idea morphed and changed as I began the implementation.

I'm glad you mention "bothering" the Shaeman, that is exactly what I had in mind, the Shaeman is a lazy thief, and he won't send you to the after life until you annoy him enough.

In the original plan, I wanted the Shaeman to have stolen the coins from your grave, which is why you could not cross on the ferry (the guys above the chief talk about the shaeman stealing coins). Then I was going to get the Shaeman to take the bag of silvers from the chief, drop two on each grave, then you would be able to cross over. Later (prologue) you would see the Shaeman picking the coins back up to steal them, something would happen (lightening probably) and the Shaeman would become a trapped spirit as well.

Anyway, thanks for playing the game :)

Styx by TolMera 2019-10-21T23:46:59Z

@derek-volker

It depends on your screen size. But try opening the web browser. Wait for the game to load, then resize it horizontally to half your screen. Give it a minute to settle, and you should have the game ready to play. Sorry I tried to put this in the game notes, but didn't seem to communicate it well. Would really love it if you could give it another try, and hopefully get it working if for nothing other than the screen transitions which I think are really good.

Thank you for the feedback though.

LooPatHero by Finlal 2019-10-08T09:45:10Z

Hey @finlal Looks like you have a lot of art work, and the artwork looks pretty good! Even though you don't have a finished and playable game, it might be worth doing a youtube video of someone running though it so we can see it in action? And failure does not mean you don't deserve a ranking, even though the game did not come together, there's still art and sound and mechanics and the idea, they are all worth getting a ranking :)

Would love to see this when it's done, as it looks like a really classic RPG with great art.

Start With Nothing by Sloan Kelly 2019-10-08T08:53:00Z

It seems like a nice idea, and I like the font as well.

Thanks for the game :)

Origamijin [Finished] by good.enough 2019-10-08T09:19:59Z

Hey @royallion, @jeejo-pallayi, @good-enough

So I downloaded the source code, though if nothing else it would be worth looking and seeing what the Idea had been.

I'm honestly not sure what the idea was, but from the name, and the couple of assets that I can see, it looked like maybe something where all the planets, animals etc were origami? It's a shame the game didn't make it further, but hearing what the ideas was would still be interesting.

I really like the background in "BlankCreditScene.png" which looks pretty awesome for just two colour. The Sprite sheet with the Origami animals is also pretty cool. I love the look of the T-rex, the use of different shades to give them dimension works really well. It's an art style that could be a real winner. Hopefully y'all do the next jam, it would be awesome to see what you can come out with after this experience.

Oh, I wanted to rate the games art but you don't have that option enabled? Well I thought the art was cool anyway.

Planet Jumpers by Adrenallen 2019-10-07T11:30:45Z

Pretty cool :) I like that your maps are procedural. I think you need a test in place to check that there are resources around the crash site, or the player will die a few times on the first crash site (like I did) because there's no resources within range. It would also be nice to be able to jump back in the ship to get a refill of oxygen.

I really like the re-entry effects as well, when you hit a planet with an atmosphere, you have reentry, but when you hit a planet without atmosphere there's no re-entry effect. A nice little touch (I only saw it was missing on the first crash though, so not sure it it's truely as I saw it to be)

I finally got shot out of the air by the alien, it would be nice if I could outrun them, or accelerate away from them. I found the only effective defence to be a hard spin which would throw the missiles off because they can't turn as hard as I could.

Overall, pretty cool game, nice idea, seems pretty solid too. Well done.

If you have source code to upload it's still worth doing. If you have art or sounds or anything, it's worth uploading them and we can still give feedback. I just found another game a minute ago that didn't have a finished product, but their art is still good

Diablo But Witches by elliottd 2019-10-08T09:38:56Z

Looks like an interesting idea. I like the death animation where the hat flips, and the animations in general are really good.

If you have a source we can look at It would be interesting to take a look at what other assets you created of any interesting mechanics you built.

Loved the smokey mist you have going on, that's pretty awesome and I would love to know how you did it. The attack animation for the slimes was epic the first time one hit me, really aggressive look on the attack, very nice. Sound was ok, I think having multiple attack sounds or multiple creature "grarr" sounds make for a much nicer audio experience, so that' the only thing I would have spent a little more time on.

Overall the games really good, mood wise you're getting high points, the whole creepy atmosphere really works! Well done.

Wit Fighter by hsandt 2019-10-08T09:26:38Z

@hsandt I love the idea, and remember starting out monkey island with similarly no insults at my disposal. It's worth keeping your voting open, and even if the game is not playable people can still look at the source for it art or sound (if there is any). Or even your list of insults and comebacks (humour)

Anyway, seemed like a cool idea! solid entry for the theme.

Hey @douglas-asted

Any chance of a Mac or Web version? I would like to give it a try, but don't have a Windows PC.

I totally understand your frustration with the storyline in such a short time. My game suffered the same. I have a very very very lame story, but hopefully solid mechanics.

Regulus by Julien Darras 2019-10-08T09:04:49Z

Woo that was hard haha :) Well done the games pretty good. I think it would make a nice little touch screen game.

It was kinda hard to get started and I almost gave up when I could not get more hydrogen, but I eventually spotted what it was (boulders with a bit more white and kinda light coming from them)

My planet got knocked back to the stone age at least once when I got swarmed by ships :)

It's a nice game overall! well done.

ROBOT WARS by Taximan981 2019-10-07T11:42:15Z

Pretty cool game. I really like the music, and thats kinds rare in games, but the music that you have in the background is really nice.

I kinda wish there was an explanation about the different kinds of units, I think the diamond head guys are faster?

I couldn't figure out the attacking though, when I told them to attack nearest they didn't seem to do anything except stop following me. When I dragged a group of enemy units into my crowd, a bunch of my guys and all of the enemy just exploded and wiped out half my team...

Still, the game was solid, it ran quickly and was responsive. I like the idea. Well done.

The Life Of A Game Developer The Game by SuperRubbingGlue 2019-10-07T11:58:51Z

@superrubbingglue I'm not sure your deployment works, it's offering a download not a game on a website. Not sure if thats you intention, but you should change the download type if you're intending that this is a download.

Since I'm on mobile internet (expensive) I wanted to check if this would play on a web browser (or mac) before downloading it, because if it downloads and it's a windows game I'll be disappointed and have spent MB's on something I can't use etc.

Guinea Pig Adventure by Jonathan Louie 2019-10-08T09:36:19Z

Sounds like it would have been an interesting game, It would have really worked with the theme of starting with nothing, if you started each level with nothing again and again.

I downloaded the source, and had a look at the art. it looks like a nice it would have had nice retro style art, I like that you have a really full animation set of tiles for the hamster. And it look like you tried to create your own font (which is really hard). It is readable so well done :)

While I can't rate much, I think this is still a good entry for the theme and it's art.

Failed Project, not so failed new experience. by Meincrab 2019-10-08T09:41:35Z

@meincrab Looks like you had some nice artwork, the fox looks cool.

It's worth putting your link in to the source code, and if theres assets etc that we can look at, you can at least get a grading on art and sound?

Great Nothing by phoenix-gi 2019-10-08T09:59:19Z

@phoenix-gi I think you might want to put this in the unfinished category sadly. I took a (brief) look at the source and there's only 1 actual game art asset (grey mage). If you do add more to the game or think there are any interesting mechanics for people to check out, it's work pointing them out and telling us where to look.

Good luck

Lift Off by Acedio 2019-10-08T09:10:10Z

Hey @acedio

So I tried the game but I can't figure out the controls. Give some hints in your games description would be good if you want me to give it another go.

I totally understand the time consumed by doing collisions and stuff. Try Game Maker if you're looking for a smaller learning curve than Unity. I used it for a few compo entries, and found the pre-implemented stuff like collision detection, A-Start pathing etc really helpful.

cold4Eclipse Unfinished by Stefan6435 2019-10-08T09:55:45Z

Hey @stefan6435

I downloaded the src and tried to play the game - sadly the images get blocked by CORS (wierd?)

Anyway from the tiny bit that I can see, it looks like you have some reasonable artwork, the smoke covered trees look pretty cool.

I can see a fair bit of code was done, though I'm not sure how much of it was framework and how much of it was game. A bit of advise from a seasoned programmer, look up Game patterns and anti-patterns. And how to decouple the logic of handling an input, from the logic of capturing said input. From what I could see your keyboard capture was going to become an anti-pattern.

Otherwise though, it looks like this would have been an interesting game to play. Good luck next time!

The idea sounds interesting, but confusing. There's hints for everyone except you where your resource is? I guess being multiplayer you can help people find theirs and they can help you find yours?

PS: Multiplayer is hard, I also did a multiplayer game, and it's hard to get people onto it all at the same time.

Sorry y'all I would have loved to give you a demo of a lot of the features and talk about a log of the idea behind the game. I might end up doing a post on the main LD thread, and I'll update the game details for now... I don't know if I'll be able to get time to do another recording. Sorry and thank you to everyone who has played my game, and who has left me some feedback, I really appreciate it and I have taken the feedback and tried to add information for you as players when I did the screen recording... *sad*

For anyone else who's hosting their game via AWS behind a loadbalancer, I have to say, oh my good grief! That shit's expensive! Just got my AWS bill, and it's painful. :-/. Lesson learned.

Better solution, use one of your free 5 AWS Elastic IPs I've still got to learn how to make the elastic IP automatically jump from one machine to another if the first one shuts itself down.. But yea, I'll see about that another time.

The art is cool too, I really like your occlusion when I walked behind the tree, I didn't expect it when my guy just vanished, was very cool. The objects although they are just a few pixels really show what the object is, and I imagine they would have had some interesting uses if you had managed to go further on the code.

Think you should change it to a normal game (not unfinished) and see what kind of rankings you can get, honestly I think it's as good as some I've played)

Sounds kinda like "bait and catch" you plant food to attract creatures, then you bag and tag them :)

Sounds like a fun game, but also like you might end up seeing a lot of "rare" creatures as you go up the levels, so what's rare right now, would not be rare in 10 minutes when you have planted out a bit more etc.

I like the concept, would make a cool game.

Ouroboros Paradox by TolMera 2020-10-05T23:08:07Z

Thanks so much, wow we have had so much feedback so quickly. Thank you all!!!

@tygrak congrats on getting to the boss :)

I did the design and you definitely hit a bug that's not meant to be there, when you beat the boss and go through the next door, it's meant to send you back to the back of the train, respawn everything and you run the loop again.

There's meant to be multiple game endings, but I see they didn't make it into the final version of the scene.

We're sticking to the rules and are not going to be able to add the improved stuff until after scores have come in, but when that's all happened we might release an updated and polished version with all the bugs you guys found fixed up and polished.

Again, thank you all soooo much, this has been awesome.

I wanted to send a notification, I hope you don't mind, but I've spent the few weeks since the jam working on bug fixes and things. I'm not one of the coders, I'm the "Support" guy, while I'm a capable programmer, I've had to learn unity from never having touched it before, to being able to read C# Scripts and hook up components, and problem solve things. It's been a hard couple of weeks, but I managed to hook up all the bits and pieces that the team had made, and I'm re-releasing the game with bugs fixed - Notes below and on the end of the game details page.

I hope you will consider giving the game another go, now that the bugs have been fixed. I did my best to stay within the Jam Rules - so I believe you should be fine to adjust your rating if you think something is better now than when you saw the game last - Audio, Graphics, Mood, Humour or Overall. I've done my best to just bring out the gems that were already there, the stories that had been written and the assets that had been created. I would love to make sure the skills of the people who joined my team get shown off to the maximum and if their scores for the different areas they were responsible for get a small bump, I would be really happy.

Change notes follow, but just before I do that, I just want to say thank you for reading this far :) I hope you have an awesome score as well when the results come out (3 days ahhh!)

BUG FIX VERSION AVAILABLE #

But now the GOOD NEWS We have re-released the game! https://ld47-webhost-postjam.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/index.html Now with 100% more bug fixes - no new features - so it should be inline with the rules if you want to re-rate the work :) but I will understand as well if you stick with your original rating.

Bugs that were fixed: The infinite loop just ended after the first boss room - The code had been written, but had not been hooked up in the release, but had been hooked up in private scenes (Unity) Gunshots - There was a bit of trouble with this, as it had been implemented multiple times - it's been corrected and the raycast system hooked up. The Boss floating in midair, I just dragged him down to the ground. The particle effects when oyu hit an enemy kinda sucked - this is because webGL looks different to unity's inbuilt player, so you couldn't see the sparks very well. We tweeked the particle system so you can see the sparks better. Game AI - It was confusing to the players, so I trimmed some of this down. World lighting - There were far too many lights in the scene, and they were making things very dark. I removed a bunch of them, and added one to the player to fix this bug. You now have light so you can see what's happening

MOUSE SENSITIVITY - The game is so much more sensitive on WebGL, the code for all of that had been written, but not correctly connected.

VOLUME CONTROL - I added some sliders for later development, but didn't hook them up, so this is purely graphical on the menu, and not a feature

I also attached the Health system to a couple of objects that had not been hooked up correctly, and shifted a few objects around a touch to stop different bugs, like running through walls and the AI wondering through closed doors.

I hope you like the game!

Ouroboros Paradox by TolMera 2020-10-25T02:03:15Z

@eldar Thanks for the feedback :)

Yea that "Press F" message really did get on my nerves, I don't know why it's there, and being "fresh" to Unity, and working iwth other guys code, I don't know what I did that made that stuck on the screen. It also does not change any more to hint when you should press F... sigh.

The carriages cycle randomly between 5 designs that the guys made. Each time you go through the train, each time you "loop" the train is destroyed and regenerates as you go through.

I don't know if you noticed the difficulty increases each time you kill the boss? It's not fast difficulty progression, but should make each room more challenging as you go through.

The Enemy can't see you through most obstacles now (way it was meant to be) so you can hide behind a box while it's scanning for you, of ninja off the stuff in the environment to stay out of scanning height.

I'm glad you liked the Music, @fadi-khoury was responsible for the music, I probably didn't do a great job with balancing it, and might have tracks overlapping, but we thought it was very cool, and meant to give more of the sense of being on a train. If you listen to it with the thought that you're on a train, you can hear the wheels and bumps in the track :)

I'm glad you could see better, that was the first think I fixed lol :) there are only 2 lights on the player, and a ma of 2 lights in any one carriage.

You're right about the robots being able to shoot you through walls last time. That was "fun"... Anyway, you're right that's fixed. And most obstacles block the enemy bullets now. You might have noticed the bullets also bounce :) When the enemy is shooting at you, they shoot in I think a 20degree cone, and if you're hiding behind something like a tree or shelf, you can see the bullets bounce off obstacles :). I would have pushed this a little further, but to stay inside the rules, I didn't make the bullets damage the enemy (friendly fire)

(Ahh darn that window) I forgot about that bug, hah, I might have to re-re-release *sigh* I do know there's another bug there that I created and just ran out of time to fix, which was if you jump into that pit, then walk into the next room, then go back into the pit, it teleports you out into space where you will fall forever (or until 64 bits overflow I guess.)

Yea the text on the Lever about killing the boss, I really was not sure about including that, because you don't have to kill the boss to win, and you might not kill him... also I don't like to say you "killed' him, since this is a kid friendly game (mostly). There's a secret in that room that will give you the second (true) ending, and shooting at the boss is just a hint to it.

The NPC text on the boss stopped working, again because I'm a unity Noob, I didn't know how to put it back in. One of the guys might see this and fix it for us :) but the boss just says: "So you've arrived! Is this the first time we're meeting? It doesn't matter though, there's only one of you, you're never going to be able to beat all of me. "I'm ready for you, bring it!"

Real top notch writing right there by yours truly. lol :)

Last think, the lever, you have the whole dialogue and you can say "pull the lever" but we didn't want that to happen automatically from the dialogue, we wanted the player to go and physically pull the lever themselves, so there was this real personal decision to pull the lever. There's meant to be a bit of tension about pulling the lever because the player while "winning" is also giving up on finding a way to actually end the paradox. So the dialogue gives the player an "out" by saying "as per protocol" but the outro says how the passengers are disoriented suggesting that something bad has happened to them. If we took this further I would grow that side of the game a little, and have the NPCs in the train so you could see/talkto them. All stuff we wanted and had text and voice acting for, but didn't get into the game because we didn't have a model for the NPC's...

Well that's 4000 words!!! Sorry for being so verbose :)

Ouroboros Paradox by TolMera 2020-10-25T07:49:19Z

@sevenlevelgames Thanks very much for giving it a try, did you give the bug fixed version a try as well? I made the bots only do 1 damage (balance) and the mouse sensitivity is now adjustable lol :)

@philstrahl - Heya :) naa, you didn't ruin the ending. We were chatting about it in the team, and actually that was the most poetic ending we would have hoped for on the not-bug-fixed version of the game :).

Thanks for playing!

Ouroboros Paradox by TolMera 2020-10-27T04:48:06Z

Thanks @inferture - Did you try the bug fixed version? 100% more bug fixes (and still within the rules)

Ouroboros Paradox by TolMera 2020-10-27T05:25:12Z

@mrchickenboy - The team was made on the fly, and the same thing will probably happen next LD as well, though I imagine some of this team will be available and want to work together again. So when it happens, hit me up here or on Twitter @TolMera - I'll be happy to interview and add people to this team or other good teams that I know about when the time comes :)

Ouroboros Paradox by TolMera 2020-10-27T21:15:09Z

@inferture Oh! I understand what you're talking about. It's actually a pretty easy bug to trigger. If you get to the boss room, to through the door to the next room, then walk back into the boss room, you will hit a collider that throws you into space (Sorry about that)

I hoped that noone would "go back" into the other room once they went into the second room, but I guess my collider is a little small, so if you run at the door and spam F, you might pop out of and back into the trigger box, throwing you into outer space :-/

Thank you for the bug report :)

Electron the Electrical Engineer by xilentor 2020-10-05T09:55:03Z

Awesome puzzle platform, I love the simple idea but really challenging execution.

As a Compo game I would love to "know" that every puzzle has a solution, otherwise after a few attempts and not being able to solve puzzle 5, I'm like "Can you solve puzzle 5?"

Really fantastic little game, I love the "soft" feel of the platforms when you jump/land on them. I like the character. The game feels pretty well polished.

If you released this to the app store today, I am pretty sure you would start earning money from it, I would pay the 99 cents for it.

FIREWALL SURFER by Tim Eriksen 2020-10-05T15:29:29Z

That was an awesome game thought my reflexes can't keep up with it :)

I love the fast respawn, it makes the game fast, and deaths feel like just part of the practice, not a punishment.

I love the theme music, this brings back memories of so many "hacking" movies and little computer scenes from when I was a kid, really hits the nostalgic spot

Awesome entry.

Spyral by Symnel 2020-10-05T04:26:52Z

Awesome! I loved the finishing music :)

For a simple concept, it was really well executed, the little bit of mental math you pull off to work out if you have moved far enough to make a jump that's going to land you on the platform you were aiming for, that was above you but you're aiming where it will be below you? Awesome

Loved the little fireworks as well, really sells that 'I clocked it' and feels great.

Paper Loop by Nakami 2020-10-05T04:00:31Z

Cool looking game for 48 hours. It took me a couple of minutes to get the dynamic of the game. Was gooen I had a feel for it planning your way around the city, and trying to think of the best way to approach all the boxes and in what order.

I also loved that there's a speed difference when you go over the gravel and when you hit an obstacle the little spin animation :)

I didn't really get the link to the sound in the background, but it "felt" right for the setting being brightly coloured etc :)

Well done!

It's really cool to see a real paper game in this, and well done for creating something that's going to be really easy for people to pick up and play, this is great.

If you can upload a youtube or similar of the game being played, it might help understand the game a little better. Overall I'm really impressed with the idea, and the PDF although simple enough, is a really nicely formatted document :)

I did wonder if the bird is saying "Fu.." when it hits something though?

I also like the little pickups, which are kinda unusual for this exact type of game, but it gives you something to aim for when you think you have some control of the character

That was very cool :)

I read the details and expected less, but it's fully working, and you can walk from carriage to carriage while the train is moving, that's pretty awesome, I was entirely expecting the mesh and collision to knock the character around, but it didn't and it felt pretty smooth.

Mouse sensitivity would be a good addition - it's the only thing that I actually had to get used to.

I also like the fact you can turn the light off in the train, and have the flashlight, it was very cool to turn the light off and got a spooky vibe straight away.

I jumped off the train as well, and watched it drive away without me :) I would have taken a screenshot, but the game wouldn't let go of my mouse haha

The final loop by IndieQuest 2020-10-05T06:30:01Z

I played a few times and can't get past spawn 3.

I don't think its possible to either, since if you place your gun close to the tower, it does not kill the enemy from the wave quickly enough. If you place it half way around, it kills the first wave but the second hits your base before getting killed

The third drop ship always spawns behind my base, so I get 5 hits and die there.

I like the animation of the drop ship coming down, one of the cleanest and most descriptive visuals I've seen done with just blocks. Awesome work.

I hope you can fix the issue where you can't get to level 4, I think it would be a lot of fun to play more

The final loop by IndieQuest 2020-10-05T06:30:11Z

It seems like a really nice idea, but you go way too far off the map too easily. I think it's worth fixing that (if you want to) and re-deploy the game. The rules allow for bug fixing, and that feels like a bug.

I'm Real by TolMera 2021-10-27T02:20:55Z

Hey @voidsay - What happened when you opened it in an IFrame?

@jeff-kerman - All bugs aside :P thanks very much for looking at it

@lereveur - I realised that would be the case for a lot of people. I think if I was to take this further, I would have to build up some trust with people that I'm not a monster and I'm not going to sell/consume your email-address/soul. hah I also have a similar setup to you, in that I have a catch all on my domain. I use GMail though, and in Gmail you can setup a "send as". Google will send an email to the address you provide, asking if they can send emails as that address, if you receive and click their link, then you can send as that email address from your gmail account. Pretty useful :)

---

I think if I were to take this further, there's a lot of edge cases. One in particular, the email system actually only accepts emails if it can validate that the sender is 'real' on the domain that the email came from. So if you send me an email from a fake account (No DNS record for the IP address the email came from, and the domain has not signed the email et-al). Then I won't validate the account because the email is probably fake. Lots of interesting challenges.

Thanks y'all for looking at it, was an interesting weekend project.

Wow @voidsay you really made a mind twister! I spent ages trying not to fall off, before I realised gravity was on-my-side. Then, when I fell into the next room, Gravity was still on my side and I could walk on the walls and ceiling! That was fantastic.

I don't know what dark magics were being worked in the transport from one area to the next, but that was also amazingly cool and quite smooth :)

Looks like it would be intense strategy if you spend a bit of time learning how to play it.

133 seconds to clock, damn that was good.

My wife called out from another room "I love that music"

Golden Harvest by ayperosia 2023-01-09T10:53:09Z

That was pretty awesome, the sound effect on the dragon waking up is awesome, a little bone chilling.

Love the art style as well

Final Harvest by GreyNovemberGames 2023-01-09T02:49:26Z

Pretty good looking, but I couldn't play because it's not web based - if you publish a web version I would love to give it a try.

Lunaculture by Auros 2023-01-09T11:10:10Z

Not a bad game, definitely not for the RSI prone, but good for a few minutes to check out the concept :)

I like the story, but don't know if we get more than the introduction before my wrist started hurting.

@bmanstudio - it was, I had trouble making the S3 bucket public and had to do some research :)

LD54 — Limited Space

Trash Compactor by Voidsay 2023-10-02T03:18:48Z

It must be true that the void being infinite also fills all space, and therefore the Void is still limited by space?!

Screenshot from 2023-10-02 13-10-11.png

Amazing little game, it hangs together really well, is unexpectedly complex, rewarding when you fathom a move that's in the future, and doesn't have an obvious endpoint (how much further could I go, If I keep compacting will I end up with more and more office supplies? Will it become a building? What will it be!

I also love that this ran on Linux!!! Void you Star! Void star? Black hole? Sir, this is just awesome, thank you for giving me something new and challenging to play with!

LD55 — Summoning

Keyboard Warrior by TolMera 2024-04-18T09:40:25Z

Thank you four for playing, I love your feedback and appreciate it a lot :v:

Keyboard Warrior by TolMera 2024-04-21T03:55:07Z

@liquidfunk the game counts how many time you pressed enter, and how many lines there are in the chant. If you hit enter too many times, you end up ending the chant too soon

Keyboard Warrior by TolMera 2024-05-03T01:45:40Z

So it's like two days until ranking ends, so I hope you don't mind but I'm going to do some summoning

I hope you don't mind my little tribute/summoning

Keyboard Warrior by TolMera 2024-05-03T22:17:55Z

Hey @jordantanner

Yea vanilla JS, if I wanted to make it a product I would rewrite it using TS but vanilla JS is good for knocking out a prototype quickly, and with the years of experience I don’t have that much trouble with bugs etc.

I like the chant for you, really leaned into the Tanner :)

Keyboard Warrior by TolMera 2024-09-05T01:07:25Z

@convg

Thanks for letting me know about the hosting - I turned off the CDN because it costs money, but the S3 hosting is still up: https://ld55-e5068e40-db2f-53c3-aa54-78c45ebc7409.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/index.html

I hope you enjoy a play if you get a chance :)

And I'm glad you remember the multi-player game Oroborus (LD47) - I thought you were talking about Elon-zo (LD46) which is my favorite multiplayer game I've written, even if the balance was off, I loved the two people could fly to the same place a meet up, or randomly see another player fly past.

Definitely want to make more Multi player games. Orbitum Scatterum has been a long running idea in the back of my head, maybe one day that will be a reality.

If you can compile target for web or linux, more people will be able to run the game.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Metaworld by TolMera 2024-10-08T02:45:42Z

Sigh...

Ok I know the main "start game" button doesn't do anything

Are people looking at the test suite? If you're looking at the test suite, and it's not working (try device Orientation, or mesh, or textures, they all absolutely work) but if it's not working for you, can you please share me a screenshot of the developer console? I would really appreciate so I can debug. It's working on my phone, my wifes phone, my dads phone, and my computer (though I don't have a gyro in my PC obviously)

Metaworld by TolMera 2024-10-08T03:52:37Z

Thank you @imberny

I'm glad the test suite is working, that's the only area that is I might nuke the "start game" button and just push people to the tests.

Thank you very much for the feedback @imberny

Metaworld by TolMera 2024-10-08T04:16:10Z

@imberry - Because it was going to be a game. I just ran out of time after getting comfortable with `three.js`

The idea was - if you've ever played a game called populous? You're guiding the development of a civilization. But in game they are little people running around on a map. So the people were going to be my tiny creatures, and I wanted people to be able to play on their cellphone in an augmented reality environment. So you would walk around your house but in AR you would be moving around the map, interacting with your tiny creatures and guiding the growth of a civilisation.

I am probably 12 hours away from having a game since all of the `test suite` stuff, is actually me building out all the functionality. All I need to do is mix it all together, and add some AI for the people, and add a "zoning" (think SimCity zoning).

But, the best laid plans of mice and men.

I might (though got to say the feedback from people being like "I'm not going to allow GPS, orientation information" is pretty disheartening.) I might keep building it out and submit it to the Extra category.

Metaworld by TolMera 2024-10-08T21:58:44Z

@laywelin @scrumblob - I understand that’s your point of view.

Scanning a public QR code and visiting a website is not a security concern any more than visiting any website ever. At all times you could access a compromised website, but even then “sandboxing” in your browser, has mitigated the risks significantly.

Unlike visiting a personalized link, which can be used for some additional data gathering like fishing emails looking to know exactly who clicked a link.

Sharing location with no other information is not risky either. Without users permission you can use tools like GeoIP to localize a person down to a single building. Yes you can use a VPN and that makes my point obsolete, but the statement is true for the vast majority of the people on the internet. It’s not a risk to know “there is someone at X point on earth” as there are 8billion+ people on earth. It’s only a risk in conjunction with other information.

And a great number of Ludum games are local installs, which carry far greater risk to the average user. Regardless of hosting platform itch/ld/git or personal hosting, the risk remains constant.

I say the above as a professional programmer, with knowledge of both the legal and security implications. Your opinions are personal opinions, and justifiable by your comfort zone. As this has fallen outside your comfort zone, I appreciate your time, but would ask you to differentiate real security concerns from opinion, so you do not misinform others about the risk, It would be a disservice to those that trust you.

Glad it's web accessible, and straight forward to play. Love the banana-men and the funny names

LD57 — Depths

The Cloud Cities by TolMera 2025-04-08T01:13:58Z

Couple of screen shots from playing and testing - I would love to see what y'all make.

I think there's some emergent gameplay, it's like decorating a snow-globe.

And I'm loving how if you try to keep a geometric pattern from the top or the bottom, it doesn't work - so you have to make bigger geometric patterns, while still keeping things balanced so the solar panels don't end up being rotated out of the light :)

Please share your screen shots! :)

The Cloud Cities by TolMera 2025-04-08T04:56:47Z

@joel-davis Did the tutorial help? Or the "story" button on the main page

The Cloud Cities by TolMera 2025-04-09T07:09:02Z

Thank you @jared-saizdelamora. I regularly do HTML games because they are so accessible, Phone, Mac, Linux, Windows doesn't matter everyone can play, and I love that.

I tried it on my IPad, and wish I had of had time to add touch events, so you could rotate around the sphere with your fingers, would have made it feel so visceral.

Plenty could be better, but thank you for the praise :)

Color Depth by PhilStrahl 2025-04-06T20:36:57Z

Inspired by Populus? That game has inspired so many things for me, awesome to see someone else mention it :)

Cool tool - cool idea, would make interesting art installations with something like this

Catacombs: Depths of Darkness by Cohav0310 2025-04-08T02:32:00Z

You should add details, screenshots, comments etc to your game page, you will get a lot more plays and a lot more ratings if you spend 15~30 minutes just polishing up the presentation.

Space Cleaner by Cahard 2026-04-02T11:47:13Z

Gah!!! This is the game I've been trying to write for ages!

Well, not exactly, but this is the same idea I had for Orbitum Scaterum (which I've done for LD twice, and mostly failed haha)

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Garden of Cards: A Point & Click - Card Game by TolMera 2018-04-25T20:25:58Z

@petitpois @LeReveur

Thank you for giving the game a try :) I agree the textbox does not work that well, in retrospect there's a few things I could have done to improve that (change the Z-Index of the invisible click boxes for one thing) however since there's zero indication of what you can/cant click on, I'm rather impressed anyone noticed they could not click on something :)

Yea unfortunately we did not have time to finish the art as planned, but I will release a post Jam patched game (hopefully this weekend?) and hopefully the issues will be improved.

Again, thank you so much for playing! and thank you for the feed back :)

PS: For anyone interesting the the gyro interface, here's what I think of it myself - Regarding the control interface, unfortunately the gyro API and phones in general are not a great combination, the slightest lag of either the gyro or the browser, and the nice silky smooth motion detection turns into a wild bucking horse! That's if you can get as far as a smooth gyro setting. On the setting page the input boxes are a multiplier for what the API is getting from your gyro, my IPhone 6 is perfect on 7 Horizontal and 7 Vertical with no drift compensation, however the android I tested this on didn't even register at 7*, I had to push it to 70* gyro :pensive: I have some ideas of correcting the issues (using compass and gyro?) but overall, it's a battle if ever there was one. My next LD game I hope to re-use the framework that I wrote this LD! So keep an eye out, and if you have any ideas for making the gyro/compass combination system, :) reach out and I would love to hear your thoughts

LD59 — Signal
