I played a few times and can't get past spawn 3.
I don't think its possible to either, since if you place your gun close to the tower, it does not kill the enemy from the wave quickly enough. If you place it half way around, it kills the first wave but the second hits your base before getting killed
The third drop ship always spawns behind my base, so I get 5 hits and die there.
I like the animation of the drop ship coming down, one of the cleanest and most descriptive visuals I've seen done with just blocks. Awesome work.
I hope you can fix the issue where you can't get to level 4, I think it would be a lot of fun to play more
Ohh, I retract my entire statement, I see you can move the tower! That's awesome!!!
You can move the guns as well, wow this is really good
@tolmera Thank you so much for playing. The biggest thing I failed to do for this game was to create a better explanation as to the rules. Also the ratio between how many enemies a turret can handle vs the turret price is messed up.
Any way... thank you again for playingand rating!
Nice relation to theme!
Clever spin on the tower defense genre. It get pretty easy once you have more than 1 defense tower as you can just move them near your enemy spawn and call it a day. Great job nonetheless!
@rex64 yeah, I wanted to block the movement when a wave is in progress and also nerf the tower or increase the tower price, but I ran out of time. Thank you for playing and for giving feedback!
Wow! The game looks awesome! It was fun to play=) Tower defense on a spinning loop - I'm delighted.
This is an awesome polished entry! Congrats!
I really liked the gun deploying sound effect xD
I'd be harder to balance but I really wished this was some kind of infinite tower defence, cause I was really getting in to it and suddenly I won xD
The fact that you could move the guns as well made it very interesting, I'm looking forward to multiple spawners in 1 round where placing of towers will be more and more important
Good job and thank you!
fun and clever twist on the genre! cool game!
@terabyte @evogengames @patetfisk thank you so much for playing! @evogengames Multiple spawners and randomly generated waves are on my TDL.
Cool idea. I like TD games a lot and removing that static nature of your units is a cool twist. I think you could release multiple waves at the same time during the same round. For example, when you have 5 clockwise and 5 counter clockwise, they could leave the ship at the same time. If you plan on building upon the idea, maybe adding another dimension could be cool, like have multiple floors and whatnot. Kudos on the game!
How to do LD: 1. Build a tower defense game. 2. Retro-fit it on the theme. 3. ???? 4. Profit!
I like the unique mechanic! Also nice minimal tune.
My only criticism is I wish there was more! I love tower defense, and this is the innovation I never knew I needed, mobile towers. Top marks for innovation and fun.
Neat little game, very solid. Seems like a good basis for elaborating into more complicated layers.
Took a while to understand how the game works but after that it was pretty fun. Just needs more towers and enemy variation now.
Once you get to understand it, it`s great. One of coolest ideas, you should consider making this concept into a full game.
Wow! Fun game! You had a great idea. the "moving towers" was a great spin on a tower defense game! It was a bit easy. Other than that! Great job!
@drsmey yes, I did a very poor job at explaining the rules, thank you for taking the time and effort to figure them up and play! @p-brighenti @josh-roby half an hour before the dead line I only had 1 level and no start/end screens so I had to cut out multiple spawn points on the same wave, 2 more tower variations and another enemy type. Also I did not have time to fix the price of the tower with respect to the amount of enemies a tower can handle which all put together leaves a pretty dull game, so thank you for taking the time playing and commenting! @josh-roby @indigo Thank you for the kind words!
This is a nice take on tower defense games, don't think I've played something like this before. Really liked it. It's a bit too easy tho and audio could've used some work also. Overall good job!
I liked the game, and judging by your other comments, I like the vision. It looked and felt good. It was a bit too easy though.
Great game! would have liked to see more consequences related to the looping idea. Seems basically the same as a TD game with 2 paths to the base? maybe some reason to rearrange the turrets. Really interested to see this expanded on. Goof job!
I like the game also, nice idea, nice look. And it's a really interesting idea for a bit different tower defence.
But it's actually too easy. I even win with only 1 gun.
A bit short but very cool take on a tower defense game, cool idea to move the obelix but maybe it makes it a bit to easy as they always come from one side at the time. maybe mix that around a bit to make it harder
@aterlamia @aligator @rhoff95 I had many features that I wanted to add and mechanics I wanted to tweek and I think you guys really mentioned the most important ones. The towers should not be able to move when a wave is in progress, more than one spawner should be able to land at the same time, a single tower is way to OP and can handle more enemies in a wave than the cost of a new one so the tower strength and price must be changed.
Thank you so much for leaving your comments here they really help me understand the current state of the game!
I haven't played many or even any tower defense game till now, so I had a bit trouble figuring out at first how the game works. After watching your video and playing a few rounds, I understood the mechanics of the game.
In terms of gameplay, I like it. It is simple, relaxing and fun. Though during later part of the game I realized that we can move the gun mid-fight. I guess that kinda makes the game too easy? But then I dunno too much about tower defense genre.
On the other hand, I really liked the low poly simple art of the game. And one of the biggest fun factor of the game for me was how satisfying it was. I liked how you modelled the enemy units and their animations. Every time my gun destroyed an enemy unit, it felt very satisfying.
Overall, a great entry! :)
And yeah, it's good to see another fellow Godot user in a game jam! 😎
Innovative tower defence style game! Haven't seen others like this, definitely a great idea for a game, and well executed! I had one problem where if you spawn a turret and don't move it, and then spawn another turret, then they sort of just merge.
The 3d art looks nice and polished, every sound it's pretty rewarding and the controls are simple, but quite satisfying to rotate, they are very precise too. I wish it was more challenging and it had some other types of guns and enemies, like the capability of having more enemy spawner towers each round. Overall great game.
Glad I read the comments first, being able to move stuff opened the game up big time! The rotating feels really good, idk why but...it does lol. Very nice job!
Nice game! Being able to move the towers opened up a lot of possibilities!
Interesting take on the Tower defense mechanics, but it's way too easy. The game needs more enemies, more lines of defense, and so on. It definitely has the potential to grow.
Very good theme conception materialized in form of innovative tower defense game. A bit short but understandable based on the compo time limit. Tons of room to expand (multiple bases, multiple rings, turret types etc). Great entry and a very good material for Post LD game! Great job!
Nice game! Liked the tower defense approach. It was really nice playing it!
nice game. fit the theme quite well. its on the easy side, but doesnt matter. it does have potential if you decide to develop this further.
I was expecting a lot more tower defence games this jam but there were surprisingly few. It was a surprisingly nice change of pace.
cool new take on a tower defense game. Fun to play.
Great concept. With some balancing and variation this could become really awesome.
Great Concept, Would love to see more of this game.
Great concept.. Its so fun and entertaining. The artwork is pretty cool and the mechanics are amazing.. Love to see more of this game. Have a nice day
I love the art and i think the controls can be also give as a small tutorial
Neat idea, I like the concept of a turret defense where you place the turrets but can also move them in realtime, as well as moving your base. The presentation is nice and clean and the controls work great, nice work!
Nice loop tower placement mechanic, very cool and interesting! Great job!
Cool idea and interpretation of the theme. After some balancing (once you understand the mechanics it was really easy) and more waves and enemies this would be a nice timekiller :)
Would like to have seen more as well indeed, but a great spin on tower defense given the theme. Interesting to think what you could build out from this with some more types and balancing!
I can't seem to get past stage 3, but I think this a really cool take on the theme!
@fraxle I did a really bad job at explaining the rules, try clicking on the base and use A/D to move it to a safe location
@indiequest Oh cool, just revisited it and that makes a lot more sense, that's a really fun game, maybe being able to move the obelisk mid-round was a bit unbalanced, but I really like this entry!
@fraxle yeah, I forgot to block tower movement during the wave which broke all the balancing :face_palm:
Cool take on tower defense genre. Interesting and quite fun. Good job!
Cool game with interesting visuals and audio! Did experience a bit of lag while playing, but overall nicely done!
@melvinng thank you for playing and taking the time to review! May I ask about the system you were playing so that I could try and reproduce this behavior?
Tower defense in a loop. Nice job :)
Really strong work. Love this gameplay!
What a fantastic take on the tower defense genre! The gameplay was very fun and have such a huge potential, and the aesthetic was stunning! Overall a very cool game! Awesome job!
Really good tower defense game, i like the science fiction context and intriguing concept. Maybe you can reduce the time between wave, because the beginning is very slow i think. I like the fact that you can move the turrel and the tower, around the center, that is dynamic.
Great use of a minimalist style, really helps sell the "last bastion of humanity" thing, great job!
I liked this different take on this genre, and who can say no to a tower defence game? I really liked it, just wish it was longer! Great job!
Nice touch on tower defense. I wish there were more mechanics, but overall a solid entry
Nice twist on the tower defense genre. I wish there was more to it but limited time am I right. Spinning the turret around and chasing the enemies was fun.
Ahhh I LOVE this take on the theme. Tower defense are so fun, doing it on a loop is a clever twist. :) Great work nice graphics too!
Very cool take on the tower defense genre! I died the first time by trying to kill the enemies with my main tower oops :p
@snowinn yeah my explanation of the rules is super bad
This is a unique twist on the genre that works perfect with the theme! It's simple, fun, and gets a lot done with super minimal visuals - I especially like the running-light-esque flashes looping around the circle to let you know what way the enemies are coming from next. Being able to smoothly move your turrets/base around is definitely unusual, but it works really well, and I can see a lot of potential here.
Great work!
Now you're talking. Tower defense is my kind of game. I like the way you've managed to work in the theme and hit on something unique at the same time.
Interesting idea! It's very hard though currently. Maybe if the guns aimed a little in front of where the enemies are it would be a bit easier - it's a little annoying that they miss a lot. Also limiting where the alien ship can spawn would be good too. One time it spawned right next the the tower and they damaged it as soon as they got out!
@remzo the ship spawned next to the tower on purpose, if you click on the tower and then use A/D you can move the tower, this also work for the turrets. I did such a bad job at explaining the rules, sorry about that
Ah yeah, that makes it a little easier
Very cool, but a bit too easy. I was really hoping for more levels that would make me frantically reposition my guns. Nice graphics too.
Oh wow, the music is phenomenal!
@eugenik :laughing: Thanks for noticing!
reposing the one think i was hoping
cool game
Feedback - Waves count down could be lower about 50% - There was one game I started with aero energy and no guns so I had no way of getting guns?
Positives - Really liked the small touches like particle smoke when ship landed and it taking off - Glow is great - Love the sound effects
Really enjoyed your version of a tower defence game. BTW, seeked your game for voting on mine, thank you and congrats on your first LD compo game.
A fun, simple game.
I agree that being able to move the towers mid-battle makes things a bit easy. I think this could be solved by making the enemies move faster than the towers. this would mean you could fine-tune your placements after the battle started, but you wouldn't be able to chase-down enemies that got past.
I quite like the visual style and the subtle, tense music fits the game well.
This is a neat take on the tower-defence genre. If you decide to keep working on this after Ludum Ddare ends, with a few more types of towers and enemies and a little more polish, you'd have a solid coffee-break browser game on your hands.
Liked the simple concept and the visuals. The game is currently a bit too easy and a bit boring, but has a lot of potential. I could see myself playing playing this game as a cool twist on a regular tower defense game. Maybe protecting different kinds of totems on different kinds of loops against different types of enemies. It's a cool game, and developed further I could see it being a great one.
