LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Looper by jk5000 2020-10-26T12:40:38Z

At first I didn't fully understood what is happening. Though I was able to quickly understand that we had to adjust the parameters values in order to get the right combination. But even then the game seemed pretty hard to me. I think if the parameters could have been named then it would have been a little better. Though after having played a few levels, I finally started to better understand the patterns and how to adjust the parameters. Ultimately I was able to finish the game, and that felt pretty good!

I think the gameplay could have been made a little bit more easier, as often times I just went on a random button smashing spree as I wasn't able to simply get the right combination. Maybe the change in loop's speed when changing parameters could have been a good way to have a better feedback. As then the response would have been a lot quicker, thus making it easier to understand the loops being affected. But at the same time I liked the music and visual effects of the game.

Overall, it was pretty unpredictable but at the same time fun as well. A great entry nevertheless! :)

Confusing corridors by someone 2020-10-27T13:44:14Z

Took me sometime to figure out how to kill enemy as the feedback for attacks was not much visible. Maybe also because the game ran on a different resolution as upper and lower areas weren't visible on my desktop.

But after that, the gameplay went pretty smooth and I was able to finish the game after a few playthroughs. Overall, I enjoyed the gameplay and the music. The rooms and the general layout of them added an interesting atmosphere to the gameplay. Sort of like Wolfenstein 3D.

I enjoyed it, despite initial troubles. Overall it was a fun little experience for me, what I love most about game jams :)

Curly's Chase by aeveis 2020-10-25T18:13:00Z

I liked this game... cute, simple and fun. The teleport mechanic balances the gameplay pretty well and gives a huge relief whenever turns do not go well. Which overall feels pretty good and makes the game neither too hard nor too easy.

I was able to collect all the 14 fireflies and also the trophy. And going through the maze was my favourite part. Also it was there... where I actually put some actual thought on how many tiles does it actually take to make a 90 degree turn. Overall, a great entry. Had a good time playing it! :)

Lethal Loop by Chaosinism 2020-10-08T14:18:00Z

The pixel art and the music were really well made. They made the overall experience so much satisfying. For me, that alone made playing this game so much fun.

As for the gameplay, the idea was pretty good of restricting the ability choices whilst allowing them to be chosen at the start of the level. Also being able to execute them in any direction was a good addition. Though I was unable to get past level 2, but still I had a lot of fun. I will definitely try to finish the game once I get time. A great entry, I liked it a lot!

ShroomRoom by Likirus 2020-10-26T17:43:19Z

The game was very relaxing and calm to play. Though initially I didn't fully understood what we had to do in the game, but eventually I kinda almost figured out how to play it. But the main thing I liked about the game was that even though I didn't fully understood how the game mechanics initially worked, I never felt bored. I think the art and calm music really made the atmosphere super cool and calm. As usually I rarely play turn based games, so I don't know much about the genre.

But either way, the playing experience was really soothing and fun. I wasn't able to dominate the land though and win the game, but still had a lot of fun. And considering that it was made in compo, it was super polished. A great entry! :)

Training Loop by DomNomNom 2020-10-26T13:51:07Z

This was a totally different game I have played so far. I liked that how it was unique, but at the same time it was not very intuitive as well. I was able to get a score of -450 in the first level beating the required goal. But the second one was quite hard with so many parameters.

On the other hand, I think in order to provide a bit more rewarding feel to the game, you could have chosen something different for the training set ( I dunno if that's the right word ), rather than the spinning stick. Something like a walking stickman, or some image dataset. I dunno what I'm saying is even right at all lol. What I mean is something other than the rotating stick could have made the gameplay a lot more rewarding. But I think I am very much underestimating the amount of work to be put into it.

But either way, I liked how different this game was. A very unique entry to the jam! :)

Cleano by TwistedHawk 2020-10-26T13:13:31Z

I liked this game. Especially that blue spray, that was the most satisfying part of the game. Also the sound effects were solid. I liked how with such a simple gameplay mechanic you were able to make the game so much more fun with a very satisfying and rewarding feel to it.

Loved this game, was a ton of fun. Had a good time playing it :)

Goop Loop by jitspoe 2020-10-24T10:53:10Z

It was a super fun game to play. I beat it like 10-11 times to hope that there is some secret ending, but I guess there's none? , as after all the theme is stuck in a loop. Also the voiceover really added an extra layer of mood to the game, I enjoyed them a lot. The gameplay was hard and challenging but at the same time very fun and satisfying. Had a great time playing it. Loved it!

Infinimaze by KirKami 2020-10-05T13:31:54Z

I liked the idea of solving mazes by rotating them while avoiding the dragon. As of writing I haven't won the game yet, as it is quite hard for me. But I really like the gameplay and levels. I wasn't able to figure out the use of jump in the game though.

In terms of a compo game, it is a very well made, the graphics and visuals as well as the logic behind creating mazes and rotating them seems quite hard to me ( I guess they are procedural right? ) for creating within 48 hours. A great entry for a compo game :)

Super Box Bot's Package Push by Honey Pony 2020-10-26T14:47:26Z

First of all I'd like to say that the quality of the game was really really good, considering it was a compo game. Really well done!

Now coming to the gameplay, I liked the puzzles in the game, simple to understand and challenging as well. Though I wasn't able to finish all of the levels, as I'm pretty bad with puzzle games. Other than that, I really liked the music and art of the game. It was relaxing and pleasing to the eyes. In my spare time, I will be finishing this game up. I enjoyed it a lot. And considering the fact that it was made in compo, I am truly amazed. Great job!!! :)

Killing Count Time by NiKaDra 2020-10-26T18:15:47Z

The atmosphere and general mood of the game is very good. I was able to get to the final boss but I lost. And then the game restarted from the beginning. But when I headed over to the comment section I found that you have written about how to win the game in one of the replies. And now I understand it. But I think that you kinda made the map a little too big and also too many enemies too. So that kinda makes things too repetitive. Also there were a few bugs here and there, like some related to audio.

But then at the same time it was a compo game, and I think you did a pretty good job of completing the game and making it into it's current state. I still liked it a lot. Especially the atmosphere, it was really really good. Though as of writing, I haven't finished the game yet. But I will hopefully try to finish it soon. The atmosphere and the art makes the game really nostalgic.

We need to talk by bereg 2020-10-05T14:37:40Z

It was fun little experience. I like these types of game. Took me a while to understand how cards and dialogs work, but after that I was immersed into the game. In the end, I got the good ending!

I liked the simplistic low poly art of the game. As well as the music was also very good, I liked it. Overall a fun and relaxing game. A great entry, keep up the great work :)

black_box by Fraxle 2020-10-24T14:27:34Z

I liked the puzzles and tasks, though after sometime the game became kinda repetitive. But at the same time, as time went by and tasks started increasing, my heart rate too. For some reason I wanted to complete them as I knew I was closer to my objective every time I opened the mail. Though after having read tons of mails, I started to think that maybe I was doing something wrong. So then I proceeded to the comment section of this page in order to see if there is any clue or hint ( I really didn't wanted to do that lol ). Though I did found a screenshot but I still didn't quite get it. And to my surprise, as I headed back to the game, in the very next try... the computers started showing the cryptic message, and that was it. Went past that email computer and won the game. That feeling was epic, but I was kinda dissatisfied with myself that why the heck did I went to the comment section midgame. But nevertheless I enjoyed the game a lot !

DIMENSION LOOP by Danial Jumagaliyev 2020-10-27T14:15:10Z

This game started out pretty generic but slowly and slowly it kept on surprising me. And whenever I thought this is it, there were more surprises to come. Finally I was able to get out of the loop... or maybe not?

Enjoyed the game a lot and I'm all in for the sequel. I love surprises and unexpected things in a game. And you did it very well within 48 hours. A great game, kept me curious every second :D

LittleIC by Amin_JK000 2020-10-05T17:36:07Z

I liked it's graphics, they were really good. Though I guess the bloom could have been reduced a bit. Whereas, the gameplay was pretty simple and I think there were things which could have been added, but for a compo game, I think it was pretty great.

With respect to the theme, I guess the gameplay ended quite quickly, but the general idea was pretty solid of an IC delivering the signal. I liked that a lot.

Nonetheless, a great entry! :)

The final loop by IndieQuest 2020-10-05T15:31:49Z

I haven't played many or even any tower defense game till now, so I had a bit trouble figuring out at first how the game works. After watching your video and playing a few rounds, I understood the mechanics of the game.

In terms of gameplay, I like it. It is simple, relaxing and fun. Though during later part of the game I realized that we can move the gun mid-fight. I guess that kinda makes the game too easy? But then I dunno too much about tower defense genre.

On the other hand, I really liked the low poly simple art of the game. And one of the biggest fun factor of the game for me was how satisfying it was. I liked how you modelled the enemy units and their animations. Every time my gun destroyed an enemy unit, it felt very satisfying.

Overall, a great entry! :)

And yeah, it's good to see another fellow Godot user in a game jam! 😎

The Bards Tale by CursedSoldier 2020-10-11T11:07:16Z

I liked the art and music of the game. As for the story, I think it fits the theme pretty well. For the gameplay, it is pretty basic but I still enjoyed it. Though for certain things like the UI, it was kinda slow, but that you have already mentioned in your game description.

One thing I would like to point out, is that during the end part when we are talking to the sorceress, the game resets again to a earlier stage. But this time the character isn't able to move. So I have to restart the game again. Though on the plus side when restarting the game, it looks like the game data is saved, so I have repeat all tasks only once. Thus, after two restarts, I was finally able to finish the game.

But anyways, I really liked the pixel art, music and story of the game. The gameplay was pretty basic but still I liked the resetting of the days. A chill and relaxing game, I liked it.

A great entry!

W.Y.F by Glaikunt 2020-10-27T14:45:43Z

Liked the message of this game. But I don't know if I finished the game or not. I was stuck at the screen where there are three floating words - "WASN'T", "YOUR", "FAULT". So is that it? because after finishing a few levels the game tells us to remember these words. So I assume there is further progression to be made?

Either way, I liked the message of the game and the way levels were presented. Though the movement was a bit clunky, but that's okay as it was a compo game. A great entry nevertheless! :)

Fire Exit by HisHighness 2020-10-25T17:33:08Z

The game mechanics and idea of the game is good. Though as I am bad with puzzles, I wasn't able to get past level 2. Also, there was this bug that if the game restarted via losing, then it restarted back from level 1, though it didn't happened if done through pause menu.

But at the same time, I liked the puzzles and general mechanics of the game. As of writing, I don't think I can finish the game. But either way, it was a great entry! :)

Thank You! :)

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-05T14:48:00Z

@amin-jk000 Look closely at the ground, there is a small elevation. That says that if we walk past the elevation, the next door will simply loop us back to the same room.

To overcome this you have to wallrun and avoid the floor. To wallrun, you have to be next to a wall and in mid-air while pressing shift. You just have to make sure that during your journey you don't touch the floor except for the elevated areas near the door.

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-05T14:50:59Z

@indiequest Haha Thanks! :)

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-05T17:04:51Z

@bereg In the room with lots of doors, you have to go through either of the doors 47 times, after which the player will be taken to the next room. You don't have to go to each one of them, you can do it with only one door, but overall it needs to be 47 times.

I know not a very good design, but I had very limited time remaining to finish the game at that moment 😅

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-08T13:39:03Z

@chaosinism Yeah I agree, it is hard to figure out what to do. I kinda messed up the level composition and design during the jam. I think the first room where we had to wallrun could have been made a little easier if I had some sort of tutorial explaining wallrunning controls. But for that I didn't had enough time. While the second one, was totally messed up.

Btw thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad that you liked the atmosphere :)

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-25T17:03:10Z

@hishighness I'm glad that you enjoyed it :)

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-26T08:06:08Z

@jk5000 haha yeah I know I didn't made many things obvious on how to do it. But I'm glad that you liked the atmosphere. Also you can check my earlier comments if you are stuck somewhere.

@twistedhawk Thanks for the feedback! And yes I totally agree, I could have made the wall jump introduction a lot more clearer. I earlier thought of putting a text on wall or somewhere in the world to tell the controls. But then I wasn't able to make it look good, so I put off that thought. And also due to few hours remaining, I wasn't able to show controls anywhere in the game ( so instead I wrote it on the game page ). But I'm glad that you liked the feel of the game. Thank You! :)

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-26T13:21:25Z

@domnomnom Yeah as others have already said wallrunning was the most confusing part of the game. Also that 47 doors too. I think the biggest cons was that I wasn't able to properly tell the players what to do, or maybe I should say how to do. There was no clear indication of the controls as well. I will try to think for these things ahead of time the next time I am making a game. Thanks for the feedback :)

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-26T17:01:45Z

@likirus Thing is that adding lava will make it super obvious. And for the purpose of avoiding ground in certain areas, I actually had small elevation near the door, which acted as a hint that the floor ahead if stepped on, will trigger a loop. Now for the second room, I think in my personal opinion I did it fairly fine. What I did do wrong though was that I didn't already explained that we can wallrun. So if I would have explained it earlier, then the player would have figured it out after a few tries that we don't have to step on the floor. So figuring out that we don't have to walk over the floor is the main thing here, and putting lava or any obvious thing was not what I wanted.

But then I do agree, that on the third room, the implementation wasn't very good. Though I guess that if the player was able to get past the second room, then he/she would have already gotten the idea that what actually triggers a loop. But then I do agree that in the third room, the implementation wasn't good as I had a super long unwalkable area which triggered loop unnecessarily. And unfortunately, I wasn't able to think much about that due to the lack of time remaining for the compo to end. And don't ask me for the fourth room ( as I totally messed that one up :P )

Though thanks for the feedback, that helps a lot! :)

Hall of Infinity by Skyvastern 2020-10-27T11:44:30Z

@someone Yeah there were a lot of things I wasn't able to convey properly in the game. About the gun, you can equip it if you press 2 ( I wasn't able to put the description in the game due to lack of time, so instead I put it on the game page ). As for health reset, yeah I just realised that myself. Thanks for letting me know.

And that last piece of advise is really helpful. That I was indeed worrying too much about making things too obvious. I will take care of this thing from next time. Because it's not just this game, but in many previous games too I used to think like this. Thank you for the feedback, it was really helpful :D

@honey-pony Yeah the level design was really messed up. About the first room, I think you are right about the entrance door. That most player won't generally look down towards it. Though dunno but having lava doesn't feel like a right choice to me imo. What I think could have been better was that if I would have introduced some sort of tutorial of how some of the common game mechanics work as well as rooms where we were introduced with elevated floor in a much more cleaner and better way. About the second and third room, I agree that they weren't very good. During that time I was doing things without much thinking because of the lack of time. And that 47 doors puzzle... well that was basically a way for me to finish the game as soon as possible. As during that time not much time was remaining for the compo to end.

In a nutshell, my original idea for the game was quite different. So yeah during the end of the game making process, which was level designing for me, I wasn't really thinking much. I had this thought of somehow finishing this game with whatever puzzle I can come up with lol.

Btw thanks, for your feedback. That was really helpful. And I'm glad that you and many other people enjoyed the atmosphere of the game. That alone made me really happy. But at the same time, I will also be taking notes of the criticism and try to improve my future projects :)

@aeveis Yes indeed, having not enough clues and proper introduction to the basic game mechanics was one of the main reasons why this game was so hard. I will try to do better next time. Thank you for the feedback :)
