Great game! HARD, but you get better as you try it.

oceanm 2020-10-05 20:50

Super hard game. I got strong Getting Over It vibes while playing this game. Very well put together, nice job!

tomh 2020-10-05 21:58

So hard, but had a blast, I'm wondering if the controls play better on controller instead of keyboard which i was using. Enjoyed it, appreciated the voiceover effects, wish there was more!

nil4k 2020-10-05 22:51

Love this so much.. it's so hard.. and i can't stop playing

rvenson 2020-10-06 03:16

After some hours, I realized that I was extremely addicted to this game. NICE WORK! Screenshot from 2020-10-06 00-12-22.png

jitspoe 2020-10-06 06:52

Glad you're enjoying the game! I didn't intentionally make it super difficult, but the concept was a bit of a challenge to make playable, so I kind of went all Bennett Foddy. :D Once you figure out some of the tricks, such as jumping up and accelerating to the right and general timing/positioning of jumps, you can really get that loop going! The controls should be about the same on keyboard and controller, since they're both snapped to 8 directions. Just use whatever you're most comfortable with.

kornel 2020-10-06 08:44

I like how it looks and how it 'plays in GIFs' unfortunately I had hard time controlling the character. Perhaps because I was using the keyboard

Still, interesting mechanic!

jitspoe 2020-10-07 04:59

@kornel It takes a little getting used to. You can control the goop while it's not stuck to the loop with the arrow keys, so you can jump up then move to the side and hit the loop a bit harder. You can also use the arrow keys before you jump to jump in a certain direction, like up an right will jump at a 45 degree angle, or you can hold right and jump from the left side of the loop to the right. The keyboard should give you the same amount of control as the controller (it's snapped to 8 directions), but a controller might feel more comfortable for some people.

@tomh I wish I had the time to add more to it. I had plenty more ideas, but I didn't start until the last day, so I was pretty limited.

charlotte-raymond 2020-10-07 17:09

Hi hi!!! Fun stuff, good theme adherence and fun game mechanics once I got used to them! I smiled when I made it over that first hill and the voice cheered me on :)

exopunk 2020-10-10 18:33

Really interesting controls i enjoyed and hated them a lot at the same time :D Loved the goop soft body "physics". Awesome entry overall!

roidz 2020-10-10 18:58

great physics game, the voice-over made it stand out.

walaber 2020-10-10 20:03

awesome! took me MANY tries to get over the big hill, but I finally did it. really great job, and one of the best humorous entries I've played.

mateusboga 2020-10-10 20:59

This game is so frustrating xD Great job! Well implemented and smooth, and the voiceacting was the cherry on top of this pain cake! (pancake?)

Thanks for making me suffer live on twitch! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766604560

aidanmarkham 2020-10-10 22:07

My favorite game so far in the jam! I loved the controls, played it through twice. I'd love to see a longer version of this.

raphiell 2020-10-10 22:22

Super fun, you deserve more reviews! I loved the humour, and I respect the hustle. Unique controls, simple art, and your voiceovers make this a real interesting entry.

Well done!

mikoziq 2020-10-10 23:20

My brain almost melted and I almost managed to punch the screen to try to kill the narrator. But it should be taken as compliment hahaha :D . Liked the literal grim joke of loop inside the loop which was an Icing on the cake after tryharding so much... Interesting nontheless, good job!

elysiagriffin 2020-10-11 21:35

Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!

[I didn't have the chance to beat this on stream, but you best believe that I will be coming back to this one.](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766889390?t=03h06m04s)

You really captured that Bennett Foddy aesthetic, I really like/hate it. Very simple mechanic that weirdly seems ridiculously difficult to get to grips with. I also love your little audio cues taunting the player as they try to get up a hill.

I'll be back for this one, it shall not defeat me...

jitspoe 2020-10-12 03:24

@walaber Nice! The challenges make victory that much sweeter, right?

@mateusboga I think it's more of a paincake batter. *Glop.*

@aidanmarkham Glad you enjoyed it! If people like it enough, I might consider fleshing it out a little more and selling it super cheap. Seems like a good game to torment streamers with.

@mikoziq as the narrator, I'm going to make sure my doors and windows are locked.

@elysiagriffin Thanks so much for playing! You rocked it! I had just had a streamer get frustrated and have to quit, so I'm glad you passed with flying, goopy colors!

@coleslaughter I'll have you know I offer nothing but encouragement! (As long as you're encouraged by spite.)

Really appreciate everybody who took the time to stream and/or review this. The reactions were phenomenal. Surprised some of the sound triggers worked as well as they did.

marc-antoine-girard 2020-10-12 04:11

Awesome game! I got the controls pretty fast and it felt awesome. [goop.png](///raw/38d/82/z/3a07b.png) PLEASE make this into a standalone and sell it on steam. THIS IS A GOLD MINE. I would pay 20$ easy for it. Start a kickstarter I don't know, but keep going. It's like "Getting over it", so I can already see a million streamers trying to complete the game. Add more challenges and stories and you're set. Add a timer and you'll see so much speed run on youtube. Why are you still ready my comment, go be rich instead !!!

trypants 2020-10-12 15:33

This one was hard... (I say this in a good way). Unique controls/mechanics, simple visuals, perfect voice acting.

This was unique and fun to play! This game deserve more reviews. Solid entry

jitspoe 2020-10-13 06:54

@marc-antoine-girard Thanks! It's difficult to decide if I should pull away some time from my main project, Fist of the Forgotten, to work on this to get it into a commercially viable state.

holtzzy223 2020-10-13 18:54

SUPER HARD! Though FUN! Great take on the them!

letterafterz 2020-10-14 09:36

Man this game is a delight - Enjoyed skim watching your stream of the jam in action too. Very fun. I think you might be onto a winner in this one. I feel like with a slightly more forgiving increase and tutorial it'd be an amazing experience. Great job man.

marvalgames 2020-10-14 12:01

I never used so much body english in my life. I hurt. Once I got the hang of it it was satisfying and fun.

cerka 2020-10-14 14:44

That's a challenging game! Interesting mechanics makes it really catchy! great work and nice stream!

sefan 2020-10-14 18:53

Difficult and really fun game.

interface 2020-10-15 05:26

I did all that work... and where did I end up??? Pretty addictive game, innovative game mechanic. It was really fun to get some speed going, and on that note, the voice commentary is great.

jitspoe 2020-10-16 15:42

Big thanks to @mmiddleton, @mateusboga, @mikoziq, @elysiagriffin, @coleslaughter, and @trypants for playing Goop Loop on stream! Your reactions were so great, I had to put together a video. If you would prefer that I edit you out, let me know.

honest-dan 2020-10-17 01:24

as a fan of getting over it, this was a lovely experience! Thank you <3

erikiene 2020-10-20 22:22

Going in I had no idea this was going to be the most fun game I played this jam. Thank you for this experience! (being honest here) I'd love to play more of it, so do let us know if you intend to release any more updates with levels in the future :open_mouth: Reminded me of Elasto Mania (due to nostalgia on my part, that's a big big compliment btw. If you don't know the game - check it out).

Oh and the audio cues were effective and placed really well.

codertrevor 2020-10-21 01:59

The level design was a bit sadistic (way too easy to go backwards) but overall it's a fun game. It's a novel idea and good use of the theme. Well done!

duke 2020-10-22 23:26

Very hard and frustratingly so :D Like some already mentioned, this one hit very similar notes like "getting over it), not only in game play, but also in presentation and audio. I loved the details you put in like the audible reactions and contextual tutorials. Very well done! The art is clean and nice to look at, the whole game oozes style and the art direction is on point. The sound effects, though sparse, are good as well. Some soothing background music would've helped to keep my pulse a little lower... The controls felt a bit counter intuitive with the whole jumping/moving restrictions. That's definitely something that could be improved in future iterations.

All in all, a really cool entry. I wasn't able to beat it because getting back to a position to get enough speed again to get the climbs another shot were really tedious. I guess that's the whole points... I wasn't able to beat "getting over it" as well.

skyvastern 2020-10-24 10:53

It was a super fun game to play. I beat it like 10-11 times to hope that there is some secret ending, but I guess there's none? , as after all the theme is stuck in a loop. Also the voiceover really added an extra layer of mood to the game, I enjoyed them a lot. The gameplay was hard and challenging but at the same time very fun and satisfying. Had a great time playing it. Loved it!

coleslaughter 2020-10-25 07:54

[**IT. IS. ACCOMPLISHED!**](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/781046795?t=03h35m46s)

Somehow taking a break from it was all I needed. Thanks for the fun times on this one. :v:

jitspoe 2020-10-25 09:56

@honest-dan Glad you got a chance to play it and enjoyed it! My schedule is such that I never seem to be able to catch your streams these days, but I hope you're doing well!

@erikiene Glad you enjoyed it! I'm working on putting together a better, larger version up on Steam. I'll try to keep you posted when the page is live!

@duke Thanks for the feedback! I did want to add music, but there just wasn't enough time (specifically because I wanted to make something in Fruity Loops to be on theme, haha). Regarding the controls, what would you suggest changing? There's currently a restriction that prevents you from jumping into the ring (so if you're on the bottom, you can jump up or diagonally up, but not down, left, or right, as that would result in immediately hitting the loop). I guess I could just jump at the closest angle that wouldn't hit anything? Certainly could use some tweaks, as it doesn't always feel right.

@skyvastern Sorry, no secret ending in the Ludum Dare version. Happy I managed to get something at all given the time I had! I'm working on making a bigger, better version that'll have more stuff, though!

@coleslaughter Wow. I guess I have to give you a follow on Twitch, now. I didn't get an extended version out soon enough!

m0dsat 2020-10-27 13:24

Awesome game. Really fun trying to figure out the best movement for momentum. Great job!

superunknown 2020-10-27 13:34

This is a great entry to the jam. Great idea and great execution...nice simple addicting gameplay with lots of polish. Well done!

papaver 2020-10-27 14:10

Omg, this is such a good game! :medal:

Very difficult, but very addictive as well.

Very creative mechanics that fit the theme very well. I enjoyed the narrative while I was failing or succeeding a part, it was motivating me.

It looks very polished. Awesome job!

dk5000p 2020-10-27 14:12

This was really tough but I enjoyed the audio and the voice work. There was a lot of humor in this entry.

kazatan 2020-10-27 14:17

Very cool mechanic although I really struggled with controlling it consistently! I'm sure with more time and refinement it would seem very natural - or some tutorial levels which explain & practice the most used movements.

Cool sound effects - and nice use of the tension building effects near the cliff edges 👍

A top entry! Well done!

jitspoe 2020-10-30 07:43
