Itch links are broken :)
Thanks you! Should be working now, forgot to set to public.
Cute game! Nice graphics and sound. I liked that the bird becomes overburdened if you get to 10 twigs and changes sprite/aerodynamics. On criticism was that you probably shouldn't be able to load excess twigs into the level end once it's at 0. Nice work getting this done in 48 hours.
I like it! The graphics are nice and the controls feel good. I don't think loading excess twigs into the level end is a problem but one thing I would have liked is moving hazards, the big tree level didn't really have any sense of difficulty, it just felt like I was going through the motions. I do think the overburdened mechanic was quite smart and nicely implemented, it made the tighter levels require some planning.
I really enjoyed the gameplay. I was able to reach the end collecting 41 twigs in total. The burden mechanism works great, although I couldn't tell immediately that I was overburdened and end up falling down to spikes a lot xD. Good job on the game!
Cute! I wish there was some interaction with the mate, so I could lock into the results!
Loved that bird gets heavier and the bag fuller as you pick up more stuff. Great entry.
Very nice game, the sounds are nice and don't really need music too much, and the art is beautiful (though I think it would be better with a background). I like the fact that you can replay it to get more twigs, but the spikes take them. My only real criticism is that it doesn't fit the theme well, but it doesn't really matter. Had fun playing this game, thank you for making :)
This was really fun. Difficulty in levels went up nicely. I also really liked the use of the sticks as your life, not just the "keys" to the exit. I wasn't familiar with Pico8 before this jam but it seems super cool and you've inspired me to give it a go! Awesome work, really fun.
Oh man flapping around made collecting things so much fun! Flap flap! Pico8 seems pretty interesting.
Sorry to say it was to herd to get started.
I feel like there should have been more done with the weight mechanic, it felt like there was a a lot that could be done with it if a smaller inventory slowed you down more.
Really cute. Gliding has a really good feel to it, although, once you get the hang of it the levels feel quite static.
I always love to see new pico-8 games. Congratulations on completing the jam!
I loved moving the bird around, and the theme you chose is really nice! The weight mechanic (and the backpack) was a cute touch.
I played two times, and got 53 on my second time (didn't realize we would get bonuses for going over the minimum the first time).

By the way, you can take twigs from one scene to the next, is that intended?
@caranha yup intended! Mostly a feature inherent to how the character was scripting and I didn't see a need to remove it  And thanks for playing through a couple times! Glad you got the big nest
I couldn't quite get to 55! Really fun game. The weight mechanic was a surprising moment of ludonarrative harmony, I wound up going back and forth with the twigs like a bird on my second playthrough and hit a respectable 53. The only thing I felt I was missing was a way to reset the screen so that I could work on a perfect score - but that's not really possible the way the game is setup since twigs carry over between screens. I don't know what the solution is but there's room for a really good post-compo game here.
Liked it a lot!
Very cute game! The movement felt really unique and fun to wrangle with!
You could maybe make it a bit more puzzly and challenging if your bird couldn't do more than hop at a certain weight, but could drop some of their stuff, or if you had to drop them on switches to weight them down.
Not saying the game needs to be challenging though, it's a nice little experience!
@ghostbomb oh I really like those ideas, they would certainly add depth to a longer version of this game  thanks for playing!
Had a great time playing it, I find the walking sound to be extremely satisfying for some reason
Cute game! The flapping mechanic was fun but eventually I got a bit tired of spamming C :D I really liked how you got heavier with more twigs. Very simple game but was enjoyable and just the right length. Any longer and it might have become frustrating. So very well done with scope. Art is nice and the atmosphere is good. Not much criticism to be honest. It's a simple game of course but quite effective for what it is.
Liked the aesthetic and the weight mechanic, that made you balance between having enough things to complete the level and having enough spare to reach the end. Nice!
I love how cute it is!
Playing with a controller was definitely the right way to go. Super cute pixel art and great fun! I wasn't able to get every twig. The highest amount I got was 54/55. Great submission!
Really innovative controls, and I love the variance in movement speed from walking/flying and empty/full bag. Very clever!
Fun game! The only thing I miss is an easier way to reset and try again.
Outstanding, I absolutely loved the graphics and the cute bird character! My favourite ld52 submission I've played so far!
I was looking for a nice platformer to play and this one jumped out to me. I am really glad I clicked on it! Although admittedly it was not very hard :) I liked how just falling made the bird go diagonally, as if it was gliding. This made for some interesting platforming challenges here and there. Collecting twigs and using those as health was also a very nice idea. A side effect of that was that would often not go for the riskier twigs, as I would just lose more health in the process. I also did not really understand why I would want collect those if I had enough anyway. In the last level I saw the big number of twigs I needed and whished I went for them anyway :P
The art is super cute and amazing. I really love it! The sound effects were simple, but very effective and gave that nice feedback to the player. Of course, music would have been amazing, but I guess this was already a lot of work as it is :)
I really enjoyed playing your submission! Thanks a lot for making it :D I am impressed you managed to make all this in pico8. I would like to try to make a pico8 game myself at some point, but I did not get to it yet.
Flappy Birdy + Platformer = Nesting. I liked it a lot!
Really cute and fun game ! Loved the weight mechanic and the feeling when flying around
this is super fun!! really neat movement mechanics, super fun to control. also there's an interesting strategy in having the twig count carry over from the previous level, i can already imagine a lot of neat decisions for speedrunning if someone were to do that. really nice art, really nice sounds. loved it!
Really nice movement system! The animation change when you carry too much was a nice touch. Just wish there was something to signal that you beat the game. I was kind of confused at the end.
Absolutely adorable platformer! The animation and fall speed really nails a weak bird aesthetic.
When loading up with a ton of items, you really have to get into a rhythm to fly upward. Spamming too quickly results in missed flaps. I kind of liked it, but I found that I had to rely on the sound effect a bit. Buffering jump input might be nice to make it more accessible?
@jellzilla Oh absolutely, accessibility with the inputs is definitely a concern. If time allowed I would have added an option that would keep you flapping up at the correct rate for what you're carrying as you held down the flap button, so holding would be an option instead of just tapping. But as compo game I hoped it'd be alright to relive the old days of gameboy-induced RSI.
Nice concept! The soft-lock and end screen are a little rough. I do see how the soft-lock might be difficult to fix depending on how you structured the game code. End screen could use some background text like "final score" to hint what's going on there.

I do like your use of the flapping mechanic, but the button mashing is a bit much for the gameplay involved. If I'm not mistaken, the "burden" penalty to flapping is gradually increased with each stick... this makes it somewhat hard to pick up on until you hit ten sticks and you also get a visual cue. I think either increasing the hover time (time between upward and downward momentum) or changing the burden penalty to only increase every say... three sticks (to make the change more dramatic), could help out a lot here.
The graphics work for the game. With this art style, I think it's actually a good thing that you didn't include a background. No visual confusion about what's going on as it is.
Really cute Pico-8 game! I really liked the idea of the twigs weighing down your platforming movement, as it opens up interesting routing problems. Not sure if I missed it, but would have been a nice touch to have some sort of reward for getting 55/55, like a cute animation with a happier bird partner :P Great work nonetheless!
@acdimalev thank you so much for the detailed feedback! yeah the button mashing I'd like to remedy with an "auto-flap" option that keeps you flapping upwards as long as you hold the button. You're absolutely right on the penalty increasing for each stick, and definitely would like to make the steps more clear by spacing out the penalty per every three sticks or so. Thanks again!
Ack the twist at last level, made me replay the game couple times to complete it. I said couple times cause I've just figured out that you need submit extra twigs before last level instead of there. But anyways, nice twig harvest game!
Cool game.At first i thought my pc was broken. After 30 sec, i understand , more branches, more burden.Just like life.
2.PNG i think im facing a small problem on your game when im Respawn there is no harvesting material Or plant in the area i share the screen shot....Other wiser Cute game! Nice theme
2.PNGplay again your game now im understood man that was awesome harvesting game
Cute and simple game! I like how the collectibles double as health, giving a light punishment for getting hit, but not too much. It's also neat how the collectibles affect your controls. Overall, a short and sweet game that doesn't overstay its welcome. Nice work!
Adorable! love the little walking sound.
Great little game; I'll second the earlier comments about button mashing for the flap (my arm hurts a bit now after playing for a while), but the mechanic does work extremely well.
Flappy bird on steroids! Nice game I definitely enjoyed it! Personally i think that difficulty is just fine as it is now.
Awesome game ! The weight mechanic was a nice surprise  (Poor bird :bird: , I made it carry so much he couldn't fly anymore lol).
I thought there would be something at the end if we had 55/55 so I replayed but there was nothing. :japanese_goblin:

Good job on this entry ! :tada:
pico gang! very enjoyable game with lovely attention to detail, congrats! didn't expect to spend as much time with it as I initially did.
It's unbelievably cute! The graphics is nicely done, and the game is really enjoyable. Very happy to see other PICO-8 entries! :)
Nice game and interesting take on the theme! Good job with art style!

Should something happened when you get all 55 twigs? Am I missing something?
@zimny11 is the immense satisfaction not enough? I'm joking I'm joking. I had planned to do something extra if you 100% it but ran out of time within the compo. that's something for future non-jam work
@hypernoodlejon Satisfaction is all I needed, just making sure ;) And yeah, that tends to happen with Compo games XD
Very fun game. Nice movement mechanic. Nice art. So far all the pico games I've seen are great. Nice job!
Controlling the bird was very nice! Loved that he became more heavy the more you took those veggies. Very well done!
Neat game. The ability to bring twigs over from previous stages is a nice touch. Well done!
Nice ! Love it. I would have liked to know that if the bird carries too much things it can no longer fly (and I did not find a way to get rid of things when there were no spikes), but, in the end, I restarted, finished and then restarted again to get all the collectibles.
Pretty nice minimalistic graphics, although some eating animations would be nice. Controls feel a bit too chaotic, and sometimes it's hard to plan your movement, but overall character moves predictable enough. I lacked some motivation to continue after 2 level though, got bored a bit, although it was fun to play first the 2 levels.
Snipaste_2023-01-11_10-40-16.png there is end right?,, knid of enjoy this game ,it is simple but I want to spent time on this
@olddog yes you reached the end  thanks for playing!
@danmerey definitely agree I would have liked to add little eat/put in backpack animations. Thank you for your input!
Aw man, the tiny tip-toing along with the animation. And the backpack filling up, weighing him down. This is just too cute. I might come back for another attempt! I keep losing my sticks to those thorns!!
One of the most thorough and well-executed entries I've seen! A really sweet take on the theme
Fun little game. I thought it was super easy until I collected too many twigs and feel into some spikes with no way of flying up as I was overencumbered. Graphics are cute, sound minimalist.
I liked how the weight mechanic worked. Very well done :D
Surprised by the sprite and mechanic change when I started hoarding twigs, that's a nice touch. As other have said, the ending is a bit rough, I spent some time trying to interact with the nest to no avail. Congrats on delivering this by yourself!
What a fun little game! I like all the little extra things you included like the different tilesets and different pieces of trash. It really gave it a lot of extra flair. The mechanics are also pretty cool and original, at first I wasn't sure where the challenge would come from with a platformer where you could jump as much as you wanted but it's an interesting twist. I just wish the game was longer and had a bit more of a substantial ending, but it's a game jam so it's forgivable, haha.
Hey, mate, good to see pico8 in this game jam. I don't know why, but I had really unsettling feeling when playing this game: the difficulty curve is quite high and there are no music. Almost felt like metroidvania, but your game definitily has some unique vibe to it. Good job, 4/5
1.png
Cute game with tight controls. With some polishing it could be a solid platformer!
The 'weight' concept was a very nice ideia, congrats! :)
It is perfect for your mechanism and pixel art, but I want more creative level!
Man I love Pico8 games and this one did not disappoint, great job !
Love a pico 8 game! Thanks for suggesting it! Just played on my mobile and it worked great 😁
Really charming little game, great character movement. Lovely pixel art
Good game! I really enjoyed it and played through the whole thing. The art was good and the mechanic was felt new and simple to grasp.
Adorable game! The game felt simple, yet fun. Twigs weighing you down made me plan my path more strategically. Good game!
great game, this little bird is definitely too cute! the weight that limits the height of the jump adds the little touch of spice! Shame the game is so short! I'm still a bit hungry!
Congratulations! for the work done in such a short time!
Cute little game. Short and sweet. I really enjoyed the feel of the birds. It reminded me a lot of Joust.
It's a real cute game with neat graphics. The movement is pretty slick, really well done. Maybe one criticism would be that the levels aren't really challenging. The traps are easy to avoid.
This game was extremely cute and made me extremely happy! I really liked it. I didn't understand that the twigs were also my life until I read the comments here so I didn't understand why I only had 50/55 when I had strived to pick up everything I saw lol.
The lil footstep noises were extremely charming and adorable, and the flapping felt satisfying. I think the overburdened flapping felt a little off in terms of how difficult it is compared to normal flapping (which is already a little difficult), but a good mechanic.
Extremely satisfying, though I wish it had an 'end' screen if you interact with the nest at the end. I thought I had failed by not getting 55/55 lol.
Edit to add that the lil cute footsteps remind me of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbySBEr-1IM
Very cute protagonist, good graphics with beautiful Pico palette. Controls works well and feels good. I do think main mechanism (flying, not picking things up) has potential and you should seek it further if you are able to get full game out of this demo.
Cool pseudo-encumbrance system, a natural fit for a game about a bird. The walking animation and SFX made me smile. Well done!
Cute. Got 55, didn't realise in the first run that hurting takes away one of the collected pieces (for ever). Gameplay was alright and the encumbrance system made sense, although even so I felt the controls were a bit too twitchy: very easy to fly/fall into some spikes in a split second. Maybe giving the bird a bit more inertia overall could work?
Art was really cute, liked the flapping - liked getting heavier with more trash and sticks - though with such a short game, it made finding the feel of the controller a little more difficult as it was constantly changing.
nice entry! well done  image_2023-01-14_160216812.png
So cute this game is!
This is a cute little game! The wind flap sounds are simple but very soothing. You made Flappy Bird less stressful.
On its own it's very easy - perhaps too easy. But going back and trying to get a higher score helps, because then we can't avoid the harder to reach twigs. Perhaps it would have been nice if the later levels had made some of those platforming challenges mandatory.
Very cute game, and really polished for a compo game! I had a lot of fun flapping, though it really hurt my finger by the end after a few playthroughs  The best I managed to get is 50.
