LD52 — Harvest

Crops Survivor by tanis 2023-01-12T13:37:13Z

Neat game. Well done implementing a scoreboard!

A Day in the Life of Death by DDRKirbyISQ 2023-01-10T17:29:30Z

What a cute game! Awesome as always. I really like the dichotomy between the lack of a beat to work to when soul harvesting compared to Happy Lala- It makes the latter feel so much more natural and fun for the reaper- even if they were both just as fun for me.

Your games are what's inspired me to join in the jam myself. I can't thank you enough. Well done, and good luck in the rankings. You deserve it.

Flee the Farmland by Chartle 2023-01-10T13:23:06Z

Good game- there's a nice variety in the game modes, without any of them feeling out of place- though the first two are the highlights, both being very clear and controlling well. The art is also great- so well done there too.

Beware The Wheatshifter by Fnkee 2023-01-10T13:31:18Z

Neat game. Even having read the explanation, the Wheatshifter always feels unpredictable, and I think that really adds to the fear- you never quite know when they'll strike. Pretty much the only thing it needs is audio- other than that, very well done.

Gogo Rabbit's Trap by JoshuaRabbit 2023-01-09T20:52:06Z

Cool game- You can definitely see the Cultist Sim influence, and it works. Finding each of the endings makes for an interesting little puzzle. Well done.

Plant Harvester by zimny11 2023-01-10T20:52:51Z

Cool game. the moment where you realise you can mow the carrots too is a really fun eye-opener. Well done.

Harvester Madness by Loig 2023-01-09T13:32:33Z

Great game. I agree completely with the comment above- This'd be amazing on mobile. As it is it's already one of the best examples of this kind of game, in my opinion. With sounds and a post game, this would be brilliant. If you take the time to do that for a non-LD version, I think it would be worthwhile.

Ramming into Trees by cagibi 2023-01-09T12:59:37Z

Awesome game. Giving the trees names and titles was a really cool touch. The general mechanics were inventive, and once you get the hang of controlling the bike, it's great fun just to ride around, barelling through the orchards. Well done!

Reap 6 (2 players) by VerttiXPertti 2023-01-09T13:17:07Z

Nice concept, and well made. The screen shake is a nice touch. Going in, I was expecting each player to be bound to their side a lot more, but the fact that you can mess with the other side is great fun.

Harvest Harvest Crush by rjerez192 2023-01-10T20:41:09Z

Lots of systems going on- and they work together really well. I managed an A, though it felt like I made loads of mistakes. Going to go for the S now- so well done!

The Heat by DzejPi 2023-01-10T14:00:04Z

Good game- though it could definitely be improved with either extra carry capacity, or some kind of reward mechanic; as it is, it feels pretty tedious to walk back and forth so slowly holding one crop at a time, for the little counter to only go up by 1. Still, those are minor faults compared to the technical achievement on display- the way the fire spreads is really clever, and it really elevates it. Well done.

Dang Crows! by Jason Wilson 2023-01-12T13:53:24Z

Neat game. The progression works well- and the way you have to keep moving and collecting wheat to keep the timer going really makes the game more dynamic. Well done.

CardVest by RealTanHen 2023-01-10T13:51:06Z

Definitely has a relaxed mood, along with a surprisingly deep strategic system. The only thing that I think could be improved was the feedback with the shop- I bought three hoses before I even realised I'd spent so much money. But overall, it's a fun little puzzler with a lot of depth. Well done.

Organ Trail by maymay 2023-01-10T13:42:38Z

I wasn't expecting a biology puzzle game, but it's a pleasant surprise. The narrative, too, is far better than any game about organ harvesting should have. Great fun, and well done.

Harvest Inn by paloobi 2023-01-10T20:24:41Z

Cute game; you really nailed the atmosphere. I agree with the above- having the cooking would especially elevate this. But with 48 hours, there's only so much you can do- and you did great. Well done.

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-09T20:43:59Z

@cagibi Thank you for the feedback. I was going for the style of classic flash browser games, so I appreciate that a lot.

It definitely needs some more animations, and especially more player feedback to help it hit that sweet spot- I was just scared of biting off more than I could chew with my first game jam. I'll use that feedback once the jam is over though, so thank you very much.

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-10T15:05:53Z

@sdelay Sorry about the key bindings. I'll get that sorted post-LD. The sun just feels like such an organic way to time the game- and the fact you can only see it again when you have so little time left helps bring a sense of urgency, I think.

Godot is amazing, isn't it? It just works, with minimal fuss. I wouldn't have managed in time in any other engine (that I've used).

Thank you for your comment, and review!

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-10T15:09:26Z

@schnodelfactory Great score! With the respawn time, and the actual game timer, (and accounting for the time to swing the scythe), my estimate would be that pixel-perfect play with incredible luck could probably net 200 points. I think the fun with the scores comes from getting that one extra point- a scoreboard would have been great, though I don't have the knowledge to implement that.

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-10T17:33:38Z

@math1369 Thanks!

@dzejpi Thank you. All the art is vector graphics converted to png's- it would probably look 'better' if left in vector form, but I have a soft spot for the fuzzy edges- maybe it's nostalgia, I don't know. But I'm glad you appreciated it too.

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-10T17:43:15Z

@papaya Thanks for the feedback. Crop cutting animation was something I wanted to add, but I'm very slow at animations to begin with, and there just wasn't enough time. I'll look into the Scythe post-LD as well- I think you have a good point there.

@tanis Powerups were something I initially considered, but quickly dropped to try and focus on the main elements. As for the scythe-swinging, it can help you get a higher score- having tried runs with and without rotating the scythe, it lets you grab more wheat from the edges, as you don't have to move as far. It was hard to try and find a balance between making it important to rotate the scythe, without making the best strategy just spinning it around yourself. I don't think that balance is perfect, but I do still think I've got it to the point where it's the best strategy, provided you can do it properly (easier said than done!).

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-11T17:17:39Z

@zimny11 I did consider having actions that only moved the scythe, rather than cutting wheat: there was a time where if you turned the scythe to point a different direction, that was a short action where you didn't actually cut anything. But in the end, I felt that it hurt the momentum of the game. I think it works best when you can constantly, fervently try and increase your score.

@chartle Scythe speed will definitely be increased later. The current speed is actually pretty arbitrary. As for the countdown timer, I stuck with just the sun to try and stop players from optimising too much (i.e. if you haven't got 100 points by the 30 second mark, you reload the page) and to avoid having too much to look at- all you have to see is the number and the sun on the left in your periphery, so it's easier to focus on gameplay.

Reap by Ipsl0re 2023-01-11T17:23:31Z

@captaindreamcast Glad it pulled you in. That circling around the outside is the same strategy I use; I think it's the best one, though with the empty patches you can come across, I'm not 100% certain.

@maymay Thanks!

@fnkee Thank you. It is meant to be the sort of arcade style experience where you think you can grab one point more- good to hear it works, and that you enjoyed the atmosphere too.

Monkey Business by Ab0303 2023-01-09T20:38:32Z

Cool game. The concept itself is fun, but the way you ran with it really helps breathe life into that idea. There's a great attention to detail on every level. Well done.

Puzzle game about farming I think by ChickensioDev 2023-01-10T20:12:25Z

Neat game. The puzzles are a light, but better for it, I think. It's a fun concept, well executed. Well done.

Nesting by HypernoodleJon 2023-01-10T20:35:47Z

Neat game. The ability to bring twigs over from previous stages is a nice touch. Well done!
