I had a lot of difficulty playing, understanding the mechanics.

See my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/space-harvest

@lfreinoso Thanks for the feedback! About the difficulty, do you have a particular mechanic in mind? (the controls, the differents fruits, ramming speed maybe?)

Awesome game. Giving the trees names and titles was a really cool touch. The general mechanics were inventive, and once you get the hang of controlling the bike, it's great fun just to ride around, barelling through the orchards. Well done!

fabian-denter 2023-01-09 17:57

This was fun! I agree that the trees having names (and eyes?) is a nice touch. The bike controlled very well and I liked the progression system. The feedback and sound of hitting trees was also very satisfying, well done!

@cagibi Despite the clarifications, I tried to play naturally.. it took me a while to understand.. that's what I draw attention to.

This was great! Love the chill music, the bike controls really well. Nice work!

I love the art style I find it to be very unique and personal, also the camera angle at the beginning I was like WTF? I thought wow I will hate it, but not really :) everything works well, it feels pretty natural to me and it is very well put together (mechanics, art, music, gameplay, day and night cicle) IDK what to say it is a very, very solid entry with a lot of personality, good job :)

Nice game! I liked the graphics, and the mechanics were very cool and unique. I also loved the day-night cycle, it was very nice! I also enjoyed reading the tree names & titles :) Some things were a bit unintuitive to me at first - how do I pay for stuff? what does the gym do? what does the engine do? - but I managed to figure them out during the game. One minor problem I had though was that I exhausted all lemons in the trees above the basket shop to buy the biggest basket, and it took me a while until I realized there was another batch elsewhere, so I felt stuck for a bit. Other than that, good entry!

Great jam entry! Loved the art style and the handling of the bike. Am a bit confused as to where my £'s come from? At some point I'm able to buy upgrades, but don't know how I got the money for it. Good Entry :)

cagibi 2023-01-10 17:48

@omphh Thanks! The £ stands for £emons (I needed a nice yellow fruit to serve as money!)

lerg 2023-01-10 20:38

Haha, fun. Hard to understand at first and controls are a bit too hard to my test, but still great job!

ani 2023-01-10 22:11

This is really good. I had trouble at first too, saving my lemons to trade in somewhere until realising they were the actual £. Finally got the secret(?) ending though! Great job with this, plus the little cycling animation is so cute.

chompdev 2023-01-15 01:11

I love the title! I gave this one 5 stars for humor based on the title and in-game jokes - great work :) The gameplay concept is fun, and I really like the shops where you can get all kinds of interesting upgrades. There are even some secret areas to find! Nice work on the graphics and day/night cycle. The basket system is great, too. Nicely done for such a short jam window!

harmadillo 2023-01-15 18:47

This was fun. Took me a little while to get the hang of the bike but it was easy to learn. The animation and the world are both nicely done.

Great visuals and the controls were really reasonable. Fun little game. Awesome work!

sisyphean-games 2023-01-16 21:42

Very nice!

The addition of the targeting line and highlight around the tree I was going to hit made it feel very clear, great idea.

Also the balance between going fast to ram the trees and get around and also losing my fruit if I go to fast made managing my movement quite interesting and fun.

mcnuttys 2023-01-18 03:22

I really like the game, add onto the fact that the idea was hilarious and you have something cool. My only issue is that im unsure how I was gaining money beyond simply harvesting lemons. The signs gave me some instruction but I guess im misinterpreted it or something cause I never saw the locals I was supposedly selling too. Reading other comments I see now that you sell them too the stores themselves which makes sense. Maybe throw in a little effect for the lemon being sold or like a cha-ching sound effect for when they are sold. Regardless really cool game!

andidebob 2023-01-18 07:51

The game idea is great, however it is a little unclear when you actually lose fruits, there are the sound effects, but a little more of a visual indication might help. Otherwise the game looks and feels great, the only complaint I would have about the controls, is that you have to press B to buy stuff, it might be better if you had like a little gate that you have to drive through to buy. It is also quite hard to read all the text when you are going fast.

Okay, enough complaining, the game is great and I had fun playing it, I also like that you end it by going to the game developer. Well done! :D

cagibi 2023-01-18 09:34

Thank you all for playing!

@mcnuttys Now that you (and some others) pointed it, I might change the "£" to a lemon icon to make everything simpler. I just need to learn how to add in-text "emojis" to those UI elements (or even edit the font itself)

@andidebob Making some of the controls diegetic can be a good idea, though I'm not sure about a gate for buying stuff (maybe you would have to stop and stay in front of the store for 5 seconds, instead?). I'm planning mouse/touchscreen controls for everything including driving, so tapping the Buy button will start to make more sense on mobile.

Also on losing fruits, inventory management is already complicated (each basket does its own logic), but not to the point of making it impossible to add falling fruits in their UI, I just didn't have the time to add them during the compo.

Impressive to have made this game in 48 hours!

The graphics are very nice and the feedback of trees is satisfying. I love the controls especially with a few upgrades. It makes me want to be able to travel into a bigger world on this bike. Great job!
